Guiding Gifted Readers helps professionals and parents understanding how gifted kids think, the challenges they face, and how other literature can help. The annotated bibliography is very helpful, as it's not only broken down by grades (PK-K, 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12), but also by listing the books within five distinct categories for when you need a book that meets just the right need. Those categories are identity, aloneness, getting along with others, developing imagination (for younger kids) or using abilities (for older kids) and drive to understand. 307 pages.
As would be expected from a book that guides people towards appropriate book choices for gifted students and their parents, this had many useful references to other literature which I will also follow-up on. Each chapter was helpful and overall the book met the particular need I had in seeking out how to help my child's emotional development. Emotional development is given equal weight as intellectual development throughout, for those who do want more info on that aspect of dealing with their gifted child.
Bibliotherapy was a new term introduced to me and I wish I'd known about this earlier as there are many great, specific book suggestions for preschool & Kindergarten that we may have missed the window in terms of optimal timing of introduction, but nevertheless had titles that I still want to introduce my children to over the summer.

This is a book I'm sure to check out from the library again at least every three years to see what might be good literature for my own kids as they continue to develop and mature.
Guiding Gifted Readers is a fantastic book for understanding how gifted kids think, the challenges they face, and how books can help. I previously read the updated version of this book (Some of My Best Friends Are Books) and think both versions are helpful, just with different book recommendations.
This book has some good information but wasn't anything new for me. I read this book on a recommendation for the book list, which did have a few good suggestions.
