Vampire so Virtuous

Rate this book
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a girl with rare blood must be in want of a vampire problem.

Cally’s life was complicated enough without nightmares, strange magic, and a brooding immortal with boundary issues. When she learns her blood is unique and catnip for vampires, she has to ask herself what’s being hunted… or craving the touch of the hunter?

With Boston in the grip of a deadly turf war, the only thing more dangerous than the vampire hunting her is the one who refuses to stay away.

Antoine, three centuries deep into a life he didn’t choose, is drawn to her wild, reckless spirit. His connection to Cally is unsettling, her blood too potent to ignore. Is she the one who can shatter the chains of his own making?

But as Cally struggles to control the magic inside her and survive the violent world she’s been thrust into, she must decide whether she’s walking into a trap—or if she’s already caught in it.

She wasn’t prey. She wasn’t magic. She wasn’t his.
He disagreed.

Cally, returning from a disastrous date, catches the attention of Antoine, a vampire outcast. He is shunned by his kind because he does not crave power and follows a strict moral code: he never kills without necessity and never feeds twice from the same person. But after tasting Cally’s blood, he realizes that no one else’s blood has any appeal to him, and on top of that, he feels a surge of power. After his bite, Cally is plagued by nightmares and starts to suspect she might be a witch. Meanwhile, Antoine faces a threat from another vampire, Minh, who wants to seize his territory. To protect Cally, he is forced to break his own rules, step into deadly political games, and figure out the mysterious bond that has formed between them.

The story unfolds in rainy Boston, where cunning vampires weave intrigues, call mortals chattel, and build armies of thralls, essentially slaves.

Cally stumbles into this clan war by accident, and of course she sees Antoine as a monster she would rather stake. But through flashbacks we learn how he became a vampire and why he is now an outcast, the virtuous one whose morality others see as weakness.

Cally, however, is not a helpless damsel in distress. She can defend herself, holds a third-dan black belt in taekwondo (which is not much help against vampires, to be fair 😂), and she is smart, brave, and loyal. She does make a few foolish mistakes, but always for the right reasons.

What I loved most is the writing. Cally’s sarcasm comes through in her inner monologues and her conversations, especially with her friend Eve. The book contrasts two worlds, human and vampire, and examines moral choices, such as Antoine’s refusal to create an army unless absolutely necessary and his willingness to grant his thralls as much freedom as possible.

The plot took turns I did not expect, and that was a big part of the fun. Overall, this is a strong adult urban fantasy that had me biting my nails more than once.

Thank you Margot Arden for the ARC!

All of my favourite tropes are packaged neatly into this wonderful story. A competent, take-charge heroine, a morally grey hero, a slow burn romance with angst and tension. To say I enjoyed this would be an understatement!

I love when vampire stories embrace the dark and grittiness and Vampire so Virtuous delivers in all the best ways. The vampires are seductive, dangerous and hungry for power, but our hero Antoine is also more than that. Despite his arrogance, Antoine struggles with the life he didn't choose and has isolated himself, only feeding when necessary and never from the same person twice. This changes when he meets our heroine Cally, and the two end up with a bond they really didn't want.

Cally is such a well written character, she is decisive and fearless even when (literally) faced with vampires who want to kill her. I loved her strength and resilience throughout the book and that she wasn't afraid to sacrifice herself to save her loved ones.

"Because for all his arrogance, all his self-serving excuses, he wasn't what she wanted him to be. He wasn't some remorseless predator, feeding and discarding without a second thought. He wasn't a soulless thing, incapable of anything but hunger. He cared, in his own way. And that complicated everything."

I really enjoyed the pace of this book. With lots of romances the main characters are usually forced together quite quickly, but Cally and Antoine don't properly meet until around 20% into the story. I loved this element, we could see who Cally and Antoine were outside of any relationship they might form, they were their own people with their own flaws and strengths and when they eventually come together it works so well. I loved their banter and the slow burn tension that was simmering throughout the story - this is a slow burn romance that is done well.

"Antoine chuckled and reached back for Cally's hand. He did it without thought, not really knowing why, but when her smaller hand slid into his, it felt like a part of him he hadn't known was missing had slotted into place."

I enjoyed this book so much and it has been one of my favourite reads this year.

Author Margot Arden introduces her Boston Vampire universe in Book 1, Vampires So Virtuous. It’s under 400 pages on the Kindle, but it builds up all the characters and setting for Antoine and Cally. I lean towards urban fantasy rather than the fantastical side, and I liked that Vampires So Virtuous centers around this theme. Though it did take a while for the story to pick up, I did appreciate the world-building. But once it does pick up and other characters are introduced, the story does get going. I found the dynamics between the vampires and thralls and how the author weaved in elements of enslavement and inequality quite interesting. What I liked about Cally was that she was already physically strong. That is, she was trained in Taekwondo and practiced. She’s not a weak character. Antoine is a unique vampire who acts on his urges based on necessity, making for an interesting storyline! As mentioned earlier, there’s quite a slow build filled with story, but once it gets going, a lot goes on with additional characters, drama, and conflict. The ending is quite the cliffhanger, followed by a sneak peek into Book 2, Vampire so Vengeful, which will be out in late fall.

Vampire so Virtuous

A thrilling tale of vampires and magic. I really enjoyed the story. It took a little bit to get into it but once I did it took off and I was hooked!

This urban fantasy paranormal romance blended high stakes supernatural conflict with slow burn romance and thrilling action. I enjoyed learning about the vampires and their society. I can’t wait to learn more about them especially Antoine in particular.

Cally, the main character was a fierce and fiery woman. I loved her fire and I loved how she knew how to fight not only physically but with her words as well.

Antoine was a favorite. I enjoyed his broody mysterious personality. I loved seeing his POV and also uncovering a little about his past. Which I hope to learn more about in the next book.

Cally and Antoine were tangled together unwilling and I enjoyed the tension and banter between them.

The ending left me begging for more!

Tropes to enjoy in this one were; enemies to lovers, fierce fighter woman, banter, vampire protector MMC, paranormal romance, vampire society, political intrigue, dual POV, morally grey characters, magical bond, forced proximity, high stakes, battle scenes, and more!

If you're looking for a mature, well-educated big-city vampire romance, this one needs to be on your radar. Vampire So Virtuous is such an awesome read. The story follows a morally gray vampire who constantly walks the line between hero and monster. He ends up falling for his food, who turns out to be way more than just a regular human. She’s smart-mouthed, sassy, totally independent, and not here for anyone’s drama. There’s present-day political chaos, layered with time jumps and memories that slowly reveal more about our vampire’s past. As things heat up, we find out their connection runs deeper than predator and prey. Think magical marks, bloodline secrets, and those fated bonds that always spell trouble.

The book has some comedic relief, some angsty moments, and of course, action-packed edge-of-your-seat fights. It also has lots of biting and blood sucking. I love his protective instincts, even though there is a reason behind them. Cally’s history and lore were a nice addition as well. I haven’t read many vampire romances as sophisticated as this one and as well thought out. This one is a 5-star read. The overall storyline is a great paranormal romance with urban fantasy vibes and a little bit of steamy scenes. I enjoyed most of this read, but that ending, ugh, I’m left reeling. Thank goodness the author has promised a sequel. Phew, that helps a little. I had to read the sneak peek, not gonna lie, it was for my peace of mind. I can’t wait for the next book.

We begin the book with Cally, who is in Boston, MA. Cally is independent, her inner monologue is funny and sassy, and her blind date is arrogant and kinda creepy. But she is going out with him at her friend’s suggestion to get out more. I love that she is fierce and a warrior and belts in taekwondo. She isn’t your average twenty-something-year-old.

Antoine is a vampire and an old one, hunting for his next meal in Boston.  His night doesn’t go quite as planned, and he finds himself being protective of his prey. He is just breaking all the rules.

We do switch povs as this story gets moving.  This book has some interesting lines that hook your attention.

“Sinister shadows behind me in dark places, unable to detect them, no matter which way I turn. Helplessness. Terror.  And underlying it all, inexplicably, the heat of my arousal. “ - Cally

As the story moves deeper, we time jump into our vampire hero’s past life all the way back to other eras. His origin story is one of a lot of French words, but the meaning comes across clearly even if you don’t understand the French.

Cally seems to have some mysticism in her background as she is part of an occult with her friends.  When she participates, she seems to be the only one who gets the results of the spells.

One sip of her and now our vamp is having a drinking issue with all others hmm? I wonder why?  So, Cally’s blood seems to have some powers, and that’s why she is different, because she is paranormal as well and just doesn’t know it yet, but is learning slowly. I love that she is quirky. Cally buckles down from fear, and Antoine finally gets less lackadaisical about his turf when threatened, but mostly because of her.

The story is half political and very slow-moving as we discover more about the past and present. I’m enjoying every moment, but it is also a slow read for me. He may be virtuous, but the women in his past practice some noncon. It isn’t detailed or described, but it is talked about in memories. I’m reading this as an arc at the author's request, and I am leaving an honest review.

“But since being bitten by the very vampire whose arms now held her, her world had turned on its head” - Cally.

Now this book is getting really good as she keeps getting unintentionally involved deeper where she shouldn’t be. I loved that she was gutsy enough to go to Antoine's house like that. She just walked not just once, but twice. But that man oozes charm and protection.  Okay, I love the paranormal addition to the urban fiction; the add-ins with her coven truly bring this story to life for me, as well as the urban setting.

This story has a gritty undertone, even though the hero is morally grey and is fighting his instincts. Our heroine is innocent but a warrior at heart. The overall urban environment and backdrop still make me think “Dark Knight “ more than “Twilight “.

Oh, twisted, I thought the past was in the past, but she seems to be in the present too, and the vampire politics just got spicier as well.  That’s not all that gets steamy, that kiss is hot !!  Ugh, right as it gets good between them, it gets interrupted by that sadistic sire of his.

Her time with the sire, albeit sadistic, isn’t all for naught; we do learn more about why she is so unique to Antoine. Why is her blood more potent, and why is this book kind of a mix of paranormal and urban fantasy? There is a lot of blood drinking in it, I mean, it is a vampire story, so if you're squimish about that, maybe steer clear.  The lore in the history lesson is intriguing and oh so quotable. I wonder what that means for Cally and Antoine with the vampire politics.

“What is undeniable, however, is the symbiosis between witch and vampire. Both grow stronger with the other."- Belle

The author breaks up the serious parts of the book with a little sense of humor, which I’m loving.

“Well, next time you walk down an alley alone, wear a T-shirt saying' I’m a witch, don’t bite me."- Antoine

I love that sass from both characters, yes, even the old vampire. Oh, this book is getting a slow start, but my goodness, this part is delicious. The end of this story is action-packed, but what was once reluctant is now accepted, and this interspecies bond has come a long way. I truly love how this story ends so much that I got so into the book, I stopped taking notes.

I love that things don’t heat up in the bedroom till later in the story, much later, no insta-love here, this story is a slow burn. Omg, the ending of the book is a cliffhanger. I hope there is more; it simply can’t end like that. Talk about the worst twisted ending ever.

I have permission from the author to add quotes from this book, even though it was an ARC read.

A deadly turf war, a brooding vampire, a world she never imagined. Antoine is three centuries deep into a life he didn’t choose, and obsessed with Cally’s wild, reckless spirit.

I stumbled across this book somewhat by luck and approached the author for an opportunity to learn more… and am I ever glad I did.

We jump in with Cally on a horrendous first date, and I was immediately drawn in by her witty banter and strong will. Believe me when I tell you this is a woman who does not let a man get away with shit. She is confident and fierce in the most admirable way and it doesn’t take long to fall in love with her personality - so passionately and unapologetically herself.

Then we meet Antoine, the brooding, moody vampire hiding in the shadows. We quickly learn he is so much more than that - he is charming, caring, compassionate… and dare I say virtuous. The way he regards himself is endearing - despite being an immortal being with powers no human could imagine, he does not view himself as being above them. His empathy for humans is prevalent, even after three centuries of vampirism.

That’s certainly what gets him in trouble with the other vampires. We’re introduced to the primary conflict early in the book, laying the foundation for what will later be a very stressful fight to the end - literally. This book describes Hollywood-worthy action scenes that I never imagined loving in a romance, but there I was soaking it all up like a sponge. I couldn’t tear my eyes away as each twist unravelled itself.

This is a story that kept me up late multiple nights in a row. It was hard to step away from this gripping story. So much more than a romance, this was a story of loyalty, strength, power and trauma. We get a peak into Antoine’s backstory, three centuries earlier, and it is truly heartbreaking. If you didn’t love him already (which, how could you not), you definitely would after seeing what he went through. Sprinkled throughout the book in all the right places, these snippets of his past come to a head in a shocking turn of events that initiates the book’s climax.

But of course, you’re here for romance, right? Don’t worry, it is every bit as gripping as the rest of the plot. From one side, we have longing and desperation, and from the other, denial and unwanted, but undeniable attraction. They can’t seem to stay away from each other no matter how hard they try. If you love a slow burn with a little resistance, this is the book for you.

Now, I love a strong woman as much as anyone, but I do think there is a considerable difference between strong and impulsive. My one gripe with Cally is that her impatience was often used to move the plot along. I struggled to like her in these moments when she made spur of the moment, hardly thought-through decisions and took no accountability for the consequences. I will say, this was due in part to Antoine’s failure to educate her on the nuances of vampire politics, but there were moments where an extra two seconds of thought would’ve gotten her a long way.

Regardless of that fact, there is nothing that could stop me from getting excited about book two. I am on the edge of my seat after the intense cliffhanger, BEGGING for more - and thankfully, I only have to wait until November! So if you’re up for a whirlwind vampire romance with the most charming vampire in Boston, a badass FMC, and a cliffhanger soon to be remedied, you need to pick up Vampire So Virtuous. You won’t regret it.

Thank you to the author, Margot Arden, for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was surprised how much action was in this book. It had a car chase scene that, if played out on the big screen, would rival some Hollywood movies! It also had shootouts and fight scenes. So a very different romance than usual!

I liked Antoine (MMF). He was a loner outcast who grappled with being a vampire and their nature. Even over 300 years old, he had an innocence to him partially due to his loner existence but mostly from his sire keeping things from him. He struggled even with his need to take life sustaining blood.

Cally (FMC) was very hard to like at times. She was supposed to be portrayed as stubborn but it came out more like she was stuck up and entitled. She talked back constantly. I have a hard time believing anyone would put up with that, especially when at times it put others authority in question. But what was the most irritating was her refusal to listen when her life was in danger. Not once but twice she leaves knowing attacks were taking place putting others in danger. Then had the audacity to be upset when people die. She was a very hard character to like.

The book was written well and had some unique elements breathing life into a genre that that is hard to do it in. She used flashbacks to give Antione’s background helping to flesh out the story as to why he was the way he was. I do wish the author had done some translation for the French Belle (Antoine’s sire) spoke. Was rather annoying with full sentences that I had no idea what was said.

It ended with the threads to continue in a 2nd book. Will most likely read the next one and hope Cally grows up. I received this book via an ARC and have left the review voluntarily.

Rare blood, vampire drama, and a broody immortal who can’t mind his own business, Vampire So Virtuous is basically my new obsession. 🩸 Margot Arden serves up a slow burn so delicious, you’ll be begging for these two to just kiss already.

Cally is out here just trying to live her best witchy life, but apparently her blood is like a five-star meal to every vampire in Boston. And then there’s Antoine, 300 years old, ridiculously handsome, and rocking that “I’m dangerous, but only for you” energy. Sir, please.

The banter? Savage. The tension? Criminal. The way he looks at her like she’s both the problem and the solution? I’m unwell. Toss in vampire turf wars, forbidden magic, and a bond they definitely didn’t ask for, and you’ve got a recipe for late-night binge reading.

What I loved most is how Cally refuses to play the helpless damsel while Antoine quietly radiates “touch her and d!e” vibes. He’s all “I’m not falling for her,” while literally falling for her on every single page. Men. 🙄

If you like your paranormal romance with bite (pun very much intended), strong heroines, and morally gray vampires who are secretly soft for one person, you’re going to devour this. Just, maybe don’t start it before bed unless you’re cool with zero sleep.

If you love dark vampire romance with a twist of magic, mafia vibes and lots of tension and yearning, this book is for you.

We find Cally living in modern day Boston, unbeknownst to her living life with vampires in hiding, when one night a date goes bad and on her way home she suddenly looses her memory and ends up with two holes on her neck. Shortly after she is attacked by 4 men and somehow saved by another and 3 of them end up dead. When she turns herself into the police, a mysterious stranger rescues her from life in prison for murder and it turns out he’s a vampire. He can’t help but feel the need to feed on her and she’s drawn to him every time she thinks of him, their tension was palpable and made for an intense yearning between them. There were several battles, some mafia style showdowns and attempts at spying and taking over each other’s territories as well as a European council that overseas all vampires coming in and meddling. Overall this book gives great dark vampire romantasy vibes and a few surprising twist made for an exciting read. My rating 4.2/5!

If you like Vampire Diaries, you might like this series. It takes place in modern day Boston with some time slips to 1700s France. We get a dual POV with the FMC and our vampire MMC, who is giving a tortured mix of Stefan’s morality and Damon’s edgy banter with a little bit of a Batman vibe going. Upon being bitten, our FMC discovers the existence of vampires and magic. She then has to navigate this new world amidst vampire politics. I enjoyed the magic system and the way the author bonded the MCs. We have so much more to learn and I’m eager for Book 2!

This was my first read by this author. It was a little Twilight with her rare enticing blood. The turf wars brought some Originals vibes. Morally gray hero, sex, and fighting. It also has a slow burn romance with Cally and Antoine. Two souls who didn't ask for this bond. If you're a vampire junkie like myself, you will love this read.

I really enjoyed reading Vampire so Virtuous and with it ending on a cliffhanger, I can't wait to read book 2, Vampire so Vengeful.

While some of it was predictable, it was an amazing ride all the same. A morally grey vampire, feeding on our fierce FMC Cally, only to become utterly addicted to her unique blood.

Cally is then thrown into an underground world she didnt even know existed, and not only is now a target because of her special blood but because she has caught the eye of one vampire in particular. With turf wars and using anything for leverage, her life hangs in the balance of vampires fighting over her to keep her or kill her.

The banter is perfection, and the slow burn is glorious. If you love fighting, betrayal, secrets, mystery, and a protective MMC, you'll love this book.

The character depth is remarkable, you really get a good grasp of their essence with flash backs on memories and current thoughts and feelings through the duel POV. Slowly learning the back story of both main characters explains a lot of why they are the way they are, and solving the pieces of the past helps the story come full circle.

Overall, a solid 4 1/2 🌟 from me, definitely worth the read.

I received the ARC of Vampire so Virtuous for my honest review.

Reading the earlier chapters of ‘Vampire So Virtuous’ I was struck by how shocked I was on Antoine’s ability to retain any sense of morality after the tortuous abuse that he endured at the hands and fangs of Belle. So much happens from page 1 to ‘the end’. My heart raced so, so, so much—especially the cliffhanger! That was some of the craziest, most unexpected events. I am praying Book 2 comes soon 🙏🏼 This is such a great story.

I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to the next one already.

The book follows Cally and Antoine, as the main characters. The dual POV gives space to get to know them both, and build a connection with them.

The book start a little slow, but gradually builds up and becomes more engaging as the story progresses.

Book was a fresh take on the vampire supernatural genre. Main characters Antoine and Cally were really good together, and Antoine’s flashbacks of how he was turned were really well incorporated. I also think a strength of this book was the side characters. There were so many good non-main characters that left me wanting to know their own backstories and why they were the way they were. Last thing, the intro to this book with Cally’s date was so on point, and her circle of friends was hilariously accurate with the spiritual-crystal ceremonies. Hahaha. This was an easy read, and I had a hard time putting it down. Can’t wait for book 2.

I was privileged to read this book as an ARC, my first ARC to be exact. and wow, this story was an amazing rollercoaster that at some point I couldn't put down anymore.

I fell in love with the characters, and Eve is honestly so funny! A lot of things were happening, which made it a lot more fun.

I rate this book 4 stars, because it was great, but the French was sometimes a bit confusing since I'm not French! The ending was honestly a bit heartbreaking (Antoine getting entombed is honestly so painful... I thought it would be a happy ending, so it's such a good plottwist!) that makes my longing to book 2 even bigger!

I also missed some character depth, I would've loved to know who Lily was (even though she's only a side character) and which role she has in being Cally's friend.

The relationship between Antoine and Cally was written so well, I love how the time was taken for them to start trusting eachother and actually loving eachother, because lately a lot of books are a "so called slow-burn" but I think a few could really learn from this book ;)

Overall, the book was amazing, I'm looking foreward to book 2.

A spellbinding and emotionally charged tale, this novel weaves together the dark allure of vampires with the hidden power of witches in a story that’s both thrilling and deeply human. At its heart is Antoine—a morally grey yet compelling hero. Though weighed down by guilt and unafraid to bend the rules, his protectiveness and inner virtue make him impossible not to root for.
Opposite him is Cally, an independent young woman whose world is upended when she learns that the supernatural is very real—and that she herself is part of it. Unaware of her true nature at first, Cally’s journey of discovery adds depth and intrigue to the narrative.
The instant connection between Antoine and Cally is magnetic, pulling readers into their evolving relationship while the surrounding vampire conflict adds tension and high stakes. The plot moves at a gripping pace, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.
However, be warned: the ending is heartbreaking and lands on a dramatic cliffhanger. Fans of dark fantasy and emotional slow burns will find themselves hooked—and desperately waiting for the sequel.

In the universe of vampires it is universally acknowledged, that Cally, a girl with the rarest blood ever has to be in want of a vampire problem.

Cally knew that her life was complicated enough, she didn't need the nightmares, strange magic, and some brooding immortal who had no idea what boundaries were. Cally soon learns that her blood is unique, powerful, and like catnip for vampires. Now Cally has to ask herself what's worse – being prey for the vampires, or accidentally falling in love with one of the very predators who hunt her for her blood?

Now Cally is caught up in the chaos of the deadly turf war that is the Boston streets. And the only thing that's more dangerous than all the vampires who are hunting her for her blood is the one who refuses to stay away from her and refuses to respect her boundaries.

Antoine is three centuries old and this is not the life that he chose for himself, now he finds himself tired – he's tired of all the rules, being bound by territories, and most of all, he's tired of the loneliness that surrounds him. He is unsettled by the sudden connection that he finds he has to Cally, and even he has to admit that her blood is too pure and potent to ignore, even he can't ignore the pull he feels for her blood.

Yet, as he watches he, trying to get ever closer to her, he finds that it's her wild and reckless spirit that keeps on drawing him ever closer to her, and this is even over the pull her blood has over him.

Is Cally the one who can finally shatter the chains of Antoine's self-imposed imprisonment?

Cally continues to struggle with the magic that's inside her, magic that till now she never knew she had, and she also has to navigate the violent world that she finds she's suddenly been thrust into, she finds that she has a massive decision to make.

Is Cally walking into a trap?

Is she already caught in the trap and she just doesn't know it yet?

Cally decides that she's not going to be prey. She wasn't magic till she was. And Cally swears that she's not his and she's not going to be his. But, Antoine disagrees and swears that she's going to be his.

This book is perfect for fans of K.F. Breene's Born in Fire, Ali Hazelwood's Bride, and Carissa Broadbent's The Serpent and the Wings of Night.

Vampire So Virtuous by Margot Arden. This book is Margot's debut novel and I went into this book with low expectations as I am never sure what to expect with a new author and their debut novel. I don't know their writing style and if I am going to enjoy the story they craft or their style of writing.

Margot surprised me though. First, she included all my favorite tropes that I would expect in this type of book and she perfectly packaged those tropes in this perfectly crafted story. She gave us this competent, take-charge FMC. A morally grey MMC and a slow burn romance with all the tension and angst that you could ever want. And I have to say that I loved this book and I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to.

I love paranormal romances and I love vampire stories and the darker the story the better. Vampire So Virtuous delivered everything you could ever want in all the perfect ways.

All the vampires that we meet are perfectly seductive, they are dangerous, and of course, they are all hungry for power. But, Antoine is different, he's so much more than that. Antoine is arrogant and he struggles with his life as a vampire, he had never asked for this life, so he isolated himself staying away from all the other vampires and staying out of all the vampire politics. When Antoine had to feed, it was only when he was in dire need of blood and he would never feed from the same person twice. He couldn't take any risks. All this changes though when Antoine meets our FMC Cally and suddenly they find that a bond has formed between them, and this is a bond that neither one of them wanted.

I loved Cally. Margot did such an amazing job writing this character. I found her characters to be fearless even when she is face to face with an endless number of vampires who wanted nothing more than to drain her blood leaving her dead, I also found her to be self-assured, strong and resilient and I was amazed with her ability to be self sacrificing as she wasn't scared to sacrifice herself all to save the one's she loved.

Margot has this amazing ability to maintain the pacing of her story. She ensured that she included the right amount of romance between Cally and Antoine, even though they didn't want their bond and they had been forced together. Even if they didn't properly meet and have the opportunity to get a feel for each other better until the 20% mark of the story.

One of the elements that I enjoyed was the fact that even though Cally and Antoine had this bond, they were outside of their relationship for the longest time. Both Cally and Antoine were each their own people, they have their own flaws and strengths and when we finally see them come together, it's just amazing to see how well they work together. They have an amazing banter and their slow-burn tension and angst just kept simmering under the surface through the entire story – and I can honestly say that this is a masterclass in the art of writing the perfect slow-burn romance.

I have no choice but to recommend Vampire so Virtuous. It is well written and the characters are well developed. Margot Arden has done a masterful job in writing this story and this is a masterful debut novel. I can't wait to see what she writes next.

*Thank you for ARC!*

If you’re a fan of he falls first, slow-burn tension, and urban fantasy with bite, this gripping tale of magic, danger, and forbidden desire is your next must-read!

Cally’s life was already on the edge, dealing with nightmares, buried secrets, and a stubborn streak that gets her into trouble. But things take a dark, thrilling turn when she discovers her blood is basically vampire heroin. Enter Antoine: a centuries-old immortal with shadows in his past and a tendency to brood in doorways. From the moment they meet, he’s hooked, not just on her blood, but on her fire, her recklessness, her refusal to back down.

As Boston becomes the battleground for a deadly vampire turf war, Cally is forced to navigate a world where trust is a luxury and magic has a price. The tension between her and Antoine simmers—equal parts electric chemistry and dangerous consequences. He’s drawn to her long before she admits she might feel the same, and their connection threatens to unravel everything they thought they knew about power, choice, and fate.

With sharp writing, morally gray characters, and a romance that burns slowly but intensely, this is a story that doesn’t let go. It’s a haunting, exhilarating ride through the shadows, where falling in love might be the most dangerous thing of all. 😏

🩸✨ ARC Review
Set in modern-day Boston, this book is less about dark seduction and more about sharp tension, emotional stake, and two complicated people crashing into each other’s lives. Cally, our heroines is a taekwondo badass with zero time for alpha-male energy. A refreshing change from the usual damsel-in-distress trope. And Antoine…. Oh, Antoine! Broody, guilt-ridden, protective and just unhinged enough to keep things interesting - and also maybe a little obsessed with her.

It’s a slow-burn romance with rich atmosphere, dry humour, moral tension, and the kind of “he’d murder for you but feel bad about it” vampire energy that works.

If you like:
🖤 a strong, guarded heroine
🩸 A broody immortal with rules he keeps breaking

…. this us the kind of paranormal romance that sneaks up on you.

I really enjoyed 'Vampire So Virtuous' by Margot Arden even if the title is a little cheesy. This is an honest review for a free ARC from Voracious Readers. I loved this, it was very Discovery of Witches and is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 because it didn't feel completely original. I did, however, like the twists on the old vampire myths and lore we know as Antoine could go out into the sunlight but wasn't a complete day walker. I definitely want to know more and see where we go with Cally and Antoine especially how she eventually masters her own powers. So many emotions and such a rollercoaster read with ups and downs, murder, attempted murder, car chases, explosions and a romance, it was a fast paced dual narrative from the Vampire and Cally's point of view. I loved this!

Yesss, vampires, strong FMC, misunderstood MMC, political intrigue and dual POV? I was sold from the blurb, and the cover is also mysterious and inviting.

Turns out I chose right, I'm sooo happy that I found this book, easily one of my most interesting reads from the last month.

I love all my MMCs a little bit broody, morally grey and/or tortured, and we got it all with Antoine, a trifecta. Him being unable to resist Cally's blood? The yearning, I'm unwell.

So interesting to see the consequences of their meeting, making this story SO much more than a romance, we get a great plot, we get character development, slow burn, banter and some shocking plot twists. I can't wait to read the next book!.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

•Exciting and romantic vampire delight•

4.5⭐️

If you have read my other reviews, you know I love vampires- sultry, broody, centuries old, with all that charm and wisdom and experience- doing the morally gray things vampires do to survive.

And when the vampires are also soft and sweet for the one they fall for? I am melting.

Vampire so Virtuous introduces us to one such vampire, Antoine, and a feisty, strong-willed FMC, Cally, in present-day Boston. Their lives quickly intertwine and the events that unfold are wild, exciting and so, so fun to read! And the romance between Antoine and Cally? Be ready for all the toe curling and blanket gripping!!

The ending totally wrecked me. . . Thank goodness book two is coming!

I received this book via ARC and very gladly so. I enjoyed the story immensely.
The strong FMC, witty repertoire, her friend’s characters all gave you a connection to this heroine. The MMC was as written a vampire with a past but with a strong sense of righteousness. Vampire wars, the Curias lack of humanity, ruthlessness and greed only emphasise the virtuous of the MMC.
I did read this in one sitting as the story line and back history kept me thoroughly involved. It did end on a cliffhanger but hopefully the next book won’t be too long a wait.
Recommend this book heartily. Looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed this story. Watching the plot unfold with flashbacks from Antoine’s past help set the stage for so much of the vampire hierarchy and “the rules of their code”. Cally is a very interesting character on her own with quirky friends and a personal history tied to wiccan culture. I liked how both Antoine and Cally interacted in a sort of enemies to friends way while each discovering more about themselves and their connection to each other. The never ending quest for power and control by vampires of course is an overriding theme – so I was not at all surprised with the way the story ended. I certainly hope the next and concluding novel to this story will be out soon!

This book is pure paranormal romance perfection. It blends danger, magic, and irresistible tension into a story that feels both fresh and addictive. The heroine is fierce, relatable, and never reduced to a damsel, while the brooding vampire delivers every ounce of morally gray, slow-burn longing readers dream of. The banter crackles, the world-building feels alive, and the emotional pull keeps you hooked until the very end. If you love your romance intense, atmospheric, and impossible to put down, this one deserves a spot on your shelf.

I wanted to like it, oh how I wanted to like it.
Do you know how hard it is to find good books about vampires lately? Very hard, and vampires are my favorite, so I was hoping to enjoy this. Unfortunately, I didn't.
I couldn't connect with either the FMC or the MMC, their relationship confused me most of the time and up to half of the story (where I dropped it), nothing really interesting was happening. So yeah, another disappointment.

I really enjoyed Vampire so Virtuous! Cally is sharp, strong, and so easy to root for, while Antoine’s broody, conflicted charm had me hooked. The romance is a true slow burn with plenty of tension, and the vampire politics and magical twists kept things interesting. A little slow to start, but once it picked up, I couldn’t put it down. Excited to see where this series goes next!

vampires

“My dear, if you’ve come to help me save my soul, I can save you some trouble now. My wife has already claimed it.”

That’s one of my favorite lines lol. Don’t ask me why but when I saw it I giggled.

This is a good vampire story and there was always something going on. Some fast pace and some slow but still good!
