Everything you know about your gods is a lie.

Born into a ruling family, Ivy Fellows is no stranger to power. In a nation devoid of magic and forced to worship the Golden Pantheon, Ivy has used her position to loudly oppose the gods, earning her enemies and a slanderous nickname. When the King dies without an heir, Ivy must take her ailing father’s place at the Ascension Vote to stop the most powerful man in Corinth from taking the throne.

Armed with weapons, wit, and secret earth magic in her veins, Ivy is ready to make the cross-country trek to the capital city, even if it means traveling with the battle-famed Captain Callan Murphy, a man with a reputation even larger than her own. But securing him as an ally, leads to more than Ivy bargained for.

A forbidden discovery of rebellion, bargains, prophecy, and destiny, culminates in an earth-shattering revelation that upends everything Ivy believes to be true. Faced with a new reality, Ivy must navigate her rapidly expanding magic and growing feelings for Callan to accomplish the impossible: kill a god and change the fate of her country, her world, and herself.

Godsbane, the first book in a planned fantasy romance duology, is perfect for fans of the descriptive prose of Crowns of Nyaxia, the vibes of The Plated Prisoner Series, the political intrigue of Game of Thrones, and the layered adventures of Throne of Glass

Duet narration

Spoiler free

Thank you very much to the author Lindsey Richardson for allowing me to read this advanced listening copy of the audiobook for her indie debut.

I am obsessed with both Jacci Prior & Anthony Palmini as individual narrators. But when they’re on an audiobook together, I’m basically losing my s***! Plus, this book has been on my tbr since I started following this author on TT so I had very high hopes for it & with this specific dream team & in duet style?!!? Sign me up!

But unfortunately, this is just another generic romantasy. The narrators are the best part of this book; they both really helped propel this to a neutral rating. While it’s not a bad story, it’s also nothing special.

The books biggest downfall is it being very formulaic. We have the “bada**” FMC with secret powers & is “the one everyone’s been looking for” who has a sob story of an upbringing. The strongest ever warrior MMC who is insanely down bad for her. Instalust/instalove that burns super quick (for this only being a planned duet.) Spice happening after the halfway point. There’s forced proximity/there’s sleeping in an inn after traveling on horse/there’s the good old “gown she wears for a big event with the side slits”/there’s the customary male & female BFFs for the FMC & every other trope salad one can imagine.

The other biggest drawback here IMO is the FMC. She’s supposed to be giving feminine rage but all she’s really giving until somewhere towards the end is annoying, petulant child. What truly gets me is how writers mask frustrating, unappealing FMCs behind terms like fierce or strong willed or tough. As soon as Ivy would start to grow on me, she’d regress back to doing something stupid or self absorbed & hide behind a myriad of excuses(which I won’t mention for spoilers.) She’s a pro at self sabotage. Her sad childhood story & being treated like a pariah was way too heavy of a crutch for a protagonist to rely on. She’s just overall not the most appealing lead; the entire time we’re only in her head so it became old, fast how flakey she is. I will say that it’s notable how the author acknowledges this in the story because it’s mentioned how Ivy is impulsive & this behavior needs chastising although again, further solidifying her has a stilted teenager. She did have a good arc by the end even though ego & pride eventually had it all fall flat.

Which is where the MMC comes in. Oh Cal bless his heart. So down bad that he’s basically a spineless enabler. The nonsense that he was talking towards the end was not attractive in the slightest. I guess it makes sense that these 2 would be into each other. What more can I say about him? Not much because his character development was severely lacking. He was there for her to degrade & demean him. He needed to have some sort of 3 dimensional personality other than also being there to further her “ruthless reputation.” Which also, where? She never really lives up to the reasons people ostracize her for being seen as this “villain”.

The beginning while well paced, didn’t have much going on giving it a leisurely feel, which I didn’t mind. Other than for whatever reason, Ivy & her constant drinking. Which is even pointed out by another character. Not sure why this plot device is ever necessary for main characters because it did nothing to further her development then have her acting a fool; which she did plenty of without the need for drink.

Overall, everything needed so much more fleshing out. The magic system was bare bones which made things confusing. And there was not nearly enough world building which made the plot messy. & the constant repetition of her thoughts was crippling because she’s supposed to be going over all these grand machinations while traveling but what she’s really doing is placing unnecessary obstacles in her way. This just needed more… just more because everything is so bland.

BUT again the pacing was perfection & the writing itself was mature. Loved all the supporting characters; even more than the leads. But I did like the banter between the couple & everyone else too. Also, the concept of the magic system was interesting as well as the take on politics & religion & gods.

A perfectly fine romantasy experience if all of the above is your thing. Especially on audio.

Godsbane was such a strong debut.

Ivy is the kind of heroine I love, she is sharp, angry, and constantly underestimated in a world that tries to box her in. The political intrigue, rebellion threads, and slowly unfolding magic kept me completely engaged. There’s a steady build to the stakes that made it hard to put down.

I especially loved the dynamic between Ivy and Callan. Forced proximity, reluctant alliance, and that simmering tension? Yes please. He falls first energy always works for me.

A few transitions felt slightly abrupt, but overall the pacing kept the momentum high and the ending has me very curious for what’s next.

Update I just finished the ALC and the audiobook is freaking AMAZING!!!! Duet narration and excellent! I loved it.

DNF @ 78%

I was so excited to get the ALC for this book, because Jacci Prior and Anthony Palmini are some of my favourite narrators!!

The ONLY reason I'm DNF'ing this book (for now), is because I need to re-read it with my eyes I think. The reason being, when I listen to audiobooks, I do other things. I'm driving, or doing laundry, or whatever other chores around the house, so I'm not 100% focused on the book, and this book needs more focus I think. The plot needs just a bit more attention. I'm getting the general idea, but at 78% I feel like I want to go back and get ALL the details, because I know I would have enjoyed it more if I had paid better attention. Near the beginning/middle, I kept getting the characters slightly mixed up, who was from what region, etc (it's rough that audiobooks can't come with a map, hah).

Sidenote: Not a fan of slithery things. *shudder*

ugh

This book is nothing more than a poorly executed pile of popular tropes. Nothing is fleshed out well and I truly don’t understand how this has such a high rating. If you love popular tropes go for it but know none are executed well.

It was a solid, enjoyable ride. Ivy is a fun FMC. She us sharp-tongued, magic-touched, and genuinely entertaining to follow as she navigates political chaos, secret powers, and a cross-country journey. The pacing keeps things moving, and I never felt bogged down. Richardson has a readable style and builds her world with enough detail to pull you in without drowning you in lore dumps.

My main hesitation is that the bones of this story are pretty familiar territory. Reluctant travel companions, hidden magic, gods with secrets, prophecy and destiny doing their thing. If you've read widely in romantasy, you'll feel the grooves of the genre here. It's executed well, but it's not breaking new ground.

And then there's Cal. The man is a Golden Retriever in a soldier's uniform, and I mean that in the most affectionate and also slightly exhausting way possible. He falls fast— like, startlingly fast — and while his devotion is sweet at first, by the end of the book his "anything and anywhere for you" energy had been dialed up so many times it lost some of its impact. There's a fine line between swoon-worthy and broken record, and Cal crossed it a few times in those final chapters.

Still, this is a fun debut with plenty of promise. Ivy and Cal have good banter, the magic system is interesting, and I'm curious enough about where the duology is headed to keep going. If you want a breezy, fast-paced romantasy with a captain who is very committed, this one's worth the trip to Corinth.

4.5⭐️ what a great indie debut!

"I yield to no man."
"And you never f*cking will, princess."

I’m not going to lie, I’m not usually a big fan of insta love but Cal and Ivy’s love story had me rethinking my feelings on this. Their chemistry and dynamic and banter was so hot and the pace of how they came together yet still everything they go through together hit just right!

"Every single part of me is yours, Ivy. Use me. Command me. Destroy me."

Ivy fellows, heir to the emerald region of
Corinth, also known as Poison Ivy has unique poisonous earth magic. The men of Corinth undermine her and underestimate her and she is a force to be reckoned with.

"Does it turn you on to make powerful men wait while you take your pleasure?"

Excuse me and the mouth on Captain Murphy aka Cal had me sweating and needing a cold shower 🥵. He’s been dreaming of her since he was 10, waiting for her and my goodness his devotion will does not waiver once he finally does get to have her!

"Here’s the thing… I’ve only just started worshipping you, but something tells me that you’d love being treated like a sinner."

I had such a good time reading this book. If you’re a romantasy reader and like books with, political intrigue, a magical resistance in play, with gods, and prophecies, that is action packed with top tier spice add Godsbane to your TBR immediately.

I had mixed feelings about Godsbane. The overall idea of the story had a lot of potential, and I could see where it was trying to go, but parts of it felt a little underdeveloped or cut short for me.

At first, I wasn’t even sure if I was going to finish it since it didn’t fully pull me in during the first few chapters. I did take some notes along the way because there were moments where I felt like more depth or detail could have made a big difference.

What ended up helping me finish it was switching to the audiobook, especially since it’s narrated by Anthony Palmini. That made the experience more engaging and easier to stick with.

Overall, I didn’t love it, but I didn’t dislike it either. I’d say it was just an okay read for me.

You can find this review of Godsbane (along with some of my favourite quotes) on my blog, Heart’s Content!

A big shout out and thank you to the author for including me in her Street Team and providing me with a complimentary copy of Godsbane in exchange for an honest review!

Every book offers something unique to its readers and I think the most poignant aspect for me with regard to Godsbane was how much emotion shimmered off its pages. From the first page, the book—to me, at least—always felt like it balanced on the sharp edge between vulnerability and cold calculation. The dichotomy that exists in the positions of power, such as the Heir and the Daughter or the Captain and the Man behind it, were depicted in a contrast that was both sharp and blurred around the edges at the same time. I enjoyed watching the author keep the story dancing between these two facets constantly, before slowly merging them all together to form a crystal clear narrative that sets the stage for the next chapter of the series.

The writing in Godsbane was something that slowly, but surely, grew its vines around me and drew me straight into the world created by Richardson. There are pages upon pages of highlights I’ve made and annotations I’ve scribbled that are all in ode to the author’s writing. Much like the narrative style, the writing too dances between crisp and cool to deep and mournful. There’s both, so much time and no time at all, for everything that happens in this book. Yes, the dichotomy (my new favourite word, fyi) is present in every aspect of the book and expect to notice it only after you’ve finished reading and you sit back and think about your experience.

While the circumstances, the politics, the magic of the world are all extremely important aspects of the story, the characters and their journey occupy a central focus. So much so that I’m almost tempted to categorise the book under the style of a character-driven story; because in my eyes they had so much of a presence, that their thoughts, feelings and relationships often overshadowed everything else—and I mean this in a good way.

The internal strife, anger and ambition of the protagonist took its spot center stage and digs its claws deep into the narration of the story. Is that because the FMC is also the primary narrator, or because her struggles—especially with regard to her garnering respect deserving of her calibre and station that come so easily to men—are very relatable to the reader? I’m not sure. But either way, expect the FMC’s voice to ring clearly and with an addictive intensity in your mind.

What was interesting was how much of presence and personality the secondary characters had as well! While, yes, the presence of other characters on page is not something that lasts for too long, during the first half of the book especially, but they all find and make their own place in scene and story.

The plot of this story was nearly two-fold; on one front, the story revolves around the deeply flawed politics and secrets of the world and its characters and on the other side is the mystery wrapped connection between the protagonists. To me, the latter was so much more present on page consistently, but I do feel that the author did this one purpose. One, because it actually is an important part of the story and two because it was a wonderful tactic to have something secretly brewing underneath it all. I will say that because of the latter, when the book ends, it truly feels like a potential beginning of something amazing.

The only aspect I would say slipped through my fingers a little, was the world building. But again, there were only certain aspects to the world building that I couldn’t wholly grasp. There are nearly three directions the world building takes, one: the existence of the current world and its kingdoms, two: the inherent mysticism of the nature of the characters and three: the actual theme of the plot. It’s the last aspect that’s the most important, that I struggled a little bit to fully grasp because it happens in segments and somehow the last segment didn’t fully stick with me, which meant I missed experiencing the effect of the shocking revelations that come with it.

But this might just be a personal experience, and somehow still didn’t colour the book in any negative light as such for me. So many events in this book are so strong that the book works so well and is hard not to enjoy!

The series clearly has lots to reveal to its readers and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Four and a half stars! Happy reading! Please do check trigger warnings as always, as there are themes in this book that can be difficult for some.

I received an ALC directly from the author and this is my honest review.

- duet narration
- mostly single POV

The narration of this book was of course fantastic. Jacci is my number one female narrator, and I just love her. Anthony it is also fantastic and voices many of my favorite male characters. Male narrators get a lot more attention than female ones. So I just want to say that Anthony did great, but Jacci is always going to be my favorite in any book I ever listen to. They both bring each character to life, with unique inflections and their own personalities.

Ok so this book was not awful, yet it lacked any uniqueness. It was so standard that I was underwhelmed and got bored. I will describe the generals of the plot:

- MFC is the daughter of a powerful man (so shocking)
- her mother died (of course 🙄, since I read this book, almost every other book I have read has had the MFC‘s mother dead, and then I reflect back and think about how many MFC’s have their mother dead. Why is this?)
- she has a super special and amazing power she chooses to keep secret from everyone so she tells no one anything (of course she is so special🙄)
- she always wears a cold mask (seems all MFC’s in this genre where a cold mask), which the author provides a rational for
- she trusts almost no one and keeps a distance from everyone but her two friends (again, seems to be all MFCs in this genre act like this)
- she is forced to travel with the MMC (never heard this storyline before…..)
- the MMC is the most powerful solider (of course he is 🙄)
- she wants the MMC to share his secrets so she can use him to get what she wants
- she is unwilling to share her secrets with him
- she has a powerful connection to the MMC
- she is constantly denying this connection (of course we can’t have one MFC who can admit when there is a connection)
- she also constantly lies to herself about how she feels towards the MMC (of course she can’t admit one thing 🙄)
- the MMC is more direct and willing to call out their connection and feelings (of course the man was more willing and mature to have a conversation about how he was feeling)
- she is snippy and mean, while he is kind and patient (of course this sexist trope was used- women emotional and dysregulated while men are calm and more mature)
- she gets jealous when a woman flirts with him, even though she denies everything about and to him (🙄)
- he gets jealous when a man touches her (🙄)
- a friend of the MMC’s has to challenge the MFC to stop living in denial (never heard of this happening before…)
- the MMC knows more than the MFC about the overall picture but won’t share right away until she stops living in denial (again, never heard this plot before…)
- she hates that people judge her but is hypocritical and has assumptions about him, becoming surprised when she finds out he doesn’t fit the rumor mill (seriously, this is probably the most standard and quite annoying trope in this genre; The big scary, strong man is evil, but then the female is shown how kind and compassionate he really is, realizing that she was a judgmental jerk, all while being mad that he judged her…)
- over time she starts to question if he’s worth it
- he is nothing but supportive while she keeps fighting him (😱 shocking, I know)
- finally they get together and she still denies her feelings while he loves her, she shoves them (her feelings) in a iron clad box because she doesn’t wish to feel them (more avoidance, who would have thought?)
- he is nothing but loyal and all she does is question his motives and fights him every step of the way, never saying sorry
- she finally admits her feelings when he’s hurt (of course she couldn’t be mature and admit her feelings before he got hurt, again never heard of this storyline before…)
- she stop being so selfish and puts him first
- end story

Now, you can see above I was being facetious in many of my comments. Some standard tropes here and there, I love it, but when literally the MFC, MMC, and romance follows hundreds of books that already exist, I just can’t handle it. Where was the creativity? Why do authors always write the MMCs and MFCs the same way? Literally, these main characters are not unique in any capacity. And again, I often think about how these characters are written in a sexist way. Of course the female is the emotionally dysregulated, living in denial, avoidant person while the man is honest, kind, compassionate, direct, and helpful. Women often are direct, honest, mature, and kind, yet they’re written as these jerks who can’t have one honest conversation and always hide how they feel. Yuck. 🤮

Beyond the characters, the whole plot was about secrets and secrets and viewing them as weapons. The MFC was having to play the political game to manipulate and get what she wanted for the better of the realm. At one point, I wish the MMC would’ve just left the MFC for how awful she continued to be or didn’t give into her until she apologized and owned all her crappy behavior.

Anyway, all the above sound familiar? Yep. This is the most common narrative in the romantasy genre. Literally nothing stood out in this book. I have read this story and these characters 50 times in the last 2 years, just change the world and character names. I read other reviews to see if my opinion was similar to others and many stayed that this book was just one overused trope after another with nothing unique. Unfortunately, I agree.

Also, one thing I hate is a crappy rationale to justify an MC, usually the MFC, living in denial about their feelings for the other MC. Here, the MFC knew they were meant for more and also thought they would die together. The rationale for being mean to him and pushing this wonderful man away was that she was stubborn. She was so stubborn she couldn’t accept help, say thank you, apologize when being so mean and rude, or acknowledge the truth. This was so stupid.

OMG!! Quicksilver & Kingfisher girlies, RUN, do not walk, RUN & pick this up immediately (do yourself a favor and get yourself the audiobook too)

WOW WOW WOW what an absolute ride this book was. I loved every single minute. The banter 🤌🏼 the characters 🤌🏼 the romance 🤌🏼 the plot 🤌🏼 10/10 no notes (maybe just MOREEEE plsss)

Cal has me in an absolute chokehold. The moth on that man 🤤 the love, devotion, banter, ugh I am literally OBSESSED! I have not met a MMC that makes me feel the way Kingfisher makes me feel, until now. And listening to Anthony Palmini’s narration was just the icing on the cake

I also LOVE Ivy’s character. She is everything you want in a FMC. She’s smart, strong, witty, and fearless & her most remarkable quality is her loyalty. She stands ten toes down for her cause and what she believe in and is not wavering even in the face of death (literally)

The audiobook is a duet narration and is a MUST on your audiobook TBR. We already know I’m a sucker for Anthony Palmini, but Jacci Prior did a phenomenal job as well (listening to the spicy scenes was a next level experience that you neeeedddd to have)

This book had me from the jump, and had so many twists and turns that I truly did not see coming which was so refreshing. I absolutely devoured it and a desperate for more of these characters and more of this world. Lindsey, you are incredible thank you so much for gifting us this story and these characters, truly a work of art

Fun, fast paced debut. I really enjoyed this introduction to Lindsey Richardson's writing. I liked her spunky characters and the fascinating world she created here. She did a wonderful job of creating this world where you were quickly drawn into the magic and to the political intrigue that was a foot. She also weaves a quicker paced romance through the book that will have you smiling and kicking up your feet. I do think the pacing and the romance could have been a bit smoother in transitions, but overall,
I am intrigued to see where the next book goes.

Godsbane gives you a badass FMC and tons of feminine rage, a morally grey MMC who is absolutely obsessed, a unique fantasy storyline that doesn’t leave you doing mental gymnastics to understand. I love the elemental magic, the politics, that rage and a strong pathetic man.

A man who yearns is a man who earns and Captain Murphy you have EARNED👏🏻IT👏🏻ALL👏🏻
And Ivy😮‍💨 I don’t often have favorite FMCs but I think she may be one of them, for sure. I relate to her in so many ways and I can’t wait to see all the destruction—as she should—in the next book.

Godsbane is overall just the next best, must read romantasy book. I’m honestly so obsessed and in love, I can’t wait for the next book.

Let's talk about Godsbane by Lindsey Richardson.

"It's a strange feeling to walk towards your death.

What do you get when you mix full on feminine rage, a cinnamon roll MMC, magic that defies the senses, and the offbeat chance that the gods are not listening as the world crumbles around them? You get this absolute delicious morsel from Lindsey that I devoured. The plot of the story was everything I could ask for: full of epic lore, a smoldering romance, and surprises I did not see coming.

Lush with world building and a magic system that twisted and turned at every end, the story of Ivy Fellows is pushed right into the forefront of your mind. She's everything we crave in a raging FMC - pushed beyond her limits by society, due to the fact that she's deemed nothing more than her sex. Not only must she battle court politics between the realms, she's also battling her own inner demons - struggling with her secretive magic and the dreams that haunt her supposed death at the hands of dark shadows.

When she's taken on as a charge to Captain Callan Murphy - Ivy is reluctantly drawn to the man. There is something there that is pushing inside her, drawing him close, but when she learns of his own secrets - her's are thrust forward and she's stuck on whether to trust the man, or let him in. Callan is the essence of a cinnamon MMC - he's caring, broody, and would do anything for Ivy. He's devotion is that of one that would worship at the altar of a god.

"There is no part of you too dark, too poisonous for me. No piece of you that I do not want."

I treasured every word as I read it, never once wanting to put it down - being drawn into Ivy and Callan's journey, as they ventured forth to the unknowns of their future. Secrets were laid out, betrayals had, and death is saddling up, ringing it's bells. And the end...oh heads are going to roll and I'm here for it all.

Thank you to Lindsey Richardson for the ARC and for my honest and open and honest review of this book.

Disclaimer: this is slightly biased due to being friends with the author and having edited the book myself.

Okay, that being said, especially for a debut novel, it’s amazing. It has elements of some of the most well loved fantasy properties, calling Quicksilver, ACOTAR and Game of Thrones to mind. Well developed characters, smartly written dialogue and manages to pull you in far quicker than you’d anticipate in a book that requires a decent amount of world building.

I can’t wait for everyone to get to read this book.

Nope. Disappointed. This is a poorly executed attempt at romantasy. Insta-love. Literally borrowed scenes from other very famous books in this genre. Awkward and recycled banter. I could go on. Seemed YA and not in a good way. DNF at 44%.

I think this book has the potential to be something great. The plot and tension of the main characters are there but everything takes forever. There are so many questions that Ivy needs answers and and no one is talking about it. They are on the road and she keeps thinking these important questions but won’t ask them out load. And as soon as it gets brought up someone always say “I’ll tell you , trust me” and then they ride in silence for 3 days.

I want to know if they complete what they set out to do but it is taking forever to get these answers that can help her but they never come. Unfortunately, I DNF this book simply because I lost interest.

Thank you so much to the author for giving me an advanced listener copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The king is dead! A new one must be selected from the governors. Our FMC is the daughter of the governor of the Emerald region and only female heir (total baddie) - THE BLASPHEMY!! If that wasn’t bad enough she has been speaking out with her distaste of the gods worshiped. So… obviously she is a pariah and hated by all.

She also has a secret - plant magic. If it gets out it she would be executed or used as a weapon.

Godsbane is told in duet narration by Jacci Prior and Anthony Palmini. They do an absolute fantastic job. I couldn’t stop listening to this and finished it in under 24 hours.

This is an easy listen, the story is engaging, fast paced, the world building is fairly straightforward and easy to follow - there are several regions that are listed in the book and I didn’t always keep them all straight, but that was OK and didn’t impact my understanding of the story.

I like the world that this exists in, and I like the storyline with a strong FMC. Captain Murphy is the epitome of a cinnamon roll who is purely devoted to Ivy. He will follow her to the ends of the Earth, and he knows it from the first time he sets his eyes on her. He wants to love and support her.

The book reads like a standalone, but it does set up for things to come in the future; it ends in a nice spot. There were some instances where I would’ve liked more depth in the story between characters and about events both past and present. It left me wanting more. The world expands pretty fast after the midway point of the book so make sure to pay attention to the details. I would have loved more information on the characters, gods, and world in the second half. It was interesting and had me hooked, I wanted all the details!

Overall, this book is a fun time to read and listen to. I will definitely continue the series.

Just finished my ALC of Godsbane and WOW—this was such a breath of fresh air in the romantasy space.

As someone who reads a lot of romantasy, it can start to feel a little… samey. But this one? It felt unique in a way that immediately hooked me. The world, the magic, the politics—it all felt familiar enough to settle into quickly, but different enough to keep me fully invested.

Ivy is exactly the kind of FMC I love—strong, defiant, and fueled by pure feminine rage. She’s the only female heir in a world that very clearly doesn’t want her to exist in power, and instead of shrinking, she leans into it. The nickname “Poison Ivy”? Say less. I was already obsessed.

What really stood out to me was the underlying tension of fate vs. choice. Ivy believes she’s destined to die, and yet everything she does is about control—of her future, her country, and who gets to sit on the throne. That constant push and pull added such a good layer to the story.

And then there’s Callan Murphy… certified cinnamon roll, ride-or-die, will-follow-her-to-the-ends-of-the-earth energy. The dynamic between them was chef’s kiss. You get reluctant allies, slow-building trust, hidden secrets, and that quiet kind of devotion that sneaks up on you.

The story itself is fast-paced and super engaging. The world expands pretty quickly in the second half, especially with the gods, magic, and political layers, and while I did find myself wanting just a bit more depth in some areas, it never pulled me out of the story. If anything, it just left me wanting more.

Also—if you’re an audiobook girlie, I highly recommend it. The dual narration really brought Ivy and Callan to life and made it such an easy, immersive listen.

✨ Tropes & vibes:
• Feminine rage FMC
• Hidden/forbidden magic
• Reluctant allies to lovers
• Political intrigue
• Secrets & betrayal
• “Everything you know is a lie” energy
• Kill-the-gods mission

Overall, this was such a fun, addictive read and I’m very invested in where this duology is going next.

4.75/5 this was so good!!! I loved the entire storyline and immediately need a reread to see all the clues I missed! l I loved a not cliffhanger ending for once too, and am excited to get to know more about a certain someone in the prequel!! more throughout review to follow!

Audiobook is phenomenal as well!!

I was sold on this book the minute Lindsey told me the MMC was inspired by Slade from Plated Prisoner. I knew I was going to love him… but you know who I loved even more? Our FMC. 🔥

I felt so connected to her journey, her history, and her feminine rage. She takes absolutely no shit from anyone. She yields to no man — and never will — and I loved every second of it.
This book strikes the perfect balance of magic building, plot, tension, and spice. Nothing drags, nothing feels rushed, and it’s not some massive marathon read either… so naturally I devoured it and then immediately restarted it on audiobook. 😌🎧 (Thank you Lindsey for the ALC!)

And Speaking of the audiobook....Anthony Palmini and Jacci Prior absolutely elevate the story. Some of the lines they deliver hit even harder than when I first read them, which is exactly why I love devouring books in multiple formats. You really get immersed in every little detail.

The magic system was also really interesting. It has elemental magic foundations, but with a twist that keeps you questioning what’s really going on. At first, you’re a little confused about how it all works but that’s intentional, because in this world people aren’t supposed to have magic. Watching those pieces slowly come together was so satisfying.

And then there’s the banter and tension between Ivy and Cal. Cal is so down bad for Ivy! She could literally trample him with her horse, and he’d probably plead with her to do it again. 😅 The magical pull between them keeps drawing them together while they’re both trying to resist… and when they finally give in? The spice is perfection! Passionate, romantic, and completely earned.

Overall Godsbane is a must read! If you loved Plated Prisoner or TOG but want something a bit faster paced and easier to devour, this one absolutely delivers. ✨📚

Godsbane!!!! Ahhhh!!! At first I was kicking myself for taking forever to get to this book… but now I’m rethinking everything.

Waiting meant I had the absolute unique pleasure of immersive reading this GEM of a book over the last week, and I’m begging you all to do the same.

Please read it. Listen to it. Do both if you can.

It’s outstanding.

In no way does this feel like a debut. The writing is so confident, so captivating, and I absolutely inhaled this story.
I already know this is a book I’ll be thinking about for a loooong time.

Romantasy lovers? You are going to love this one!

The prose, the story, the characters… absolutely top notch.
I don’t want to spoil a single moment of this book, but I do need to talk about the MMC for a second because this man is eliiiiite.

“ʟᴇᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴡᴏʀꜱʜɪᴘ ʏᴏᴜ ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴀʏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴅᴇꜱᴇʀᴠᴇ.”

The things he says. The worshipfulness. The reverence. The yearning. That unwavering belief he has in our FMC.
It’s powerful.
It’s intoxicating.
I had so many highlights. I wish I could share them all but that just means you need to read it ASAP!

And I already know this is a book I’ll be recommending over and over again.

Thank you so much @_lindseywrites_ for the ALC! This experience was a highlight of my reading this year! 🖤

“Everything you know about your gods is a lie.”

Her entire life has been a performance. She’s the vilified heir destined for death.

She is undermined and underestimated at every moment surrounded by the rampant misogyny of her fellow politicians. As her father is too ill to travel, Ivy becomes her regions de facto Governor (as the heir) and must travel a great distance to speak up against the assignment of the new king. She must journey with an imposing warrior travel companion with dark secrets. Their connection is electrifying and confusing, as she doesn’t know if she can trust him.

Ivy battles against misogyny, her growing magic, her own self doubt, and the impassioned words of a man who will end worlds for her.

* Hidden magic
* Feminine Rage
* Allies to Lovers
* Tension and YEARRRRNING
* Exiled Gods
* Touch Her and 💀
* One Bed / One Horse
* Medium Burn Spicy Goodness

Emoji experience through the book: 😍🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😩😩😩😩😭😳😳🥵🥵😩😩😩😩😩😩😓😓🤯🤯😩😍😍

Look, I’m rarely calm about books that are so good that they knock me on my ass, but the writing is perfection. Such a gorrrrrrgeous example of down bad yearning and devotion. Holy crap I wish I could read it again already. Onward to Deathsbane!

•My Thoughts•
Where are my fast burn girlies?! This book is for you! This book didn’t make me love a fast burn BUT if it’s going to be done, this was a good way to do it! I appreciate the fun twists and found some of the elements unique to the genre which I enjoyed! I loved the intrigue and light quest elements. I liked the world and the storyline even though I got a little lost at moments wondering if I had missed something. Fear not! For the most part, if you keep going, the answers come! Regardless of the speed of the main characters connection, I did have a little trouble with how obsessed the male main character was with our female lead. I can admit this feels like a silly complaint…like I’m crazy for saying, please like her less? BUT I prefer a little more of a partnership where he’s willing to call her on her crap rather than one where he’s like I’ll support you if you become a sociopath (just a vibe example, not a spoiler 😆). Overall, I’m glad I read. I enjoyed the story and the reveals were so fun! Definitely one to check out if you're looking for a quicker burn romance with a fun plot!

Thank you to the author, Lindsey Richardson, for the opportunity to read and listen to the audio via advanced listener copy.

This was a really fun and interesting read. The writing... Great. The Banter... SOOO funny. The spice... OOOHBABY! The narration... Woah buddy but like, could you ever go wrong with Jacci Prior and Anthony Palmini? So good. If you're a fan of romantasy this book has a number of different tropes in it that will get you what you need. We've got Gods, we've got one bed inns, we've got a yearning sexy male, we've got powerful females. Something for everyone!! This was a fun read!

I know I've said I love a good "Fuck it" moment but there was something so dang hot when Anthony Palmini said "Fuck" approximately 43% into this book. I, quite literally, highlighted it on my kindle with the note "The audio of this. OH.MY.GOD."

Men telling you to smile is bad enough, but being told not to smile might be even worse. FACTS

“I’ve only just started worshipping you, but something tells me that you’d love being treated like a sinner.” Ahhh shit

Still mad Goodreads didn’t add a half star update. This book was GOOD. And I need more people to scream about this goodness!!!

This story follows Ivy, the heir to a realm of a large kingdom, but in this world, women are only to be seen and not heard. Thus begins our conflict where she is sent to represent her realm in an ascension vote but in doing so, ruffles the feathers of all the men going to this same vote. Our Captain sent to guard her and keep her safe on this journey is one of the most down bad men I’ve read since reading Spark of the Everflame years ago. My guy is so Luther Corbois coded, you’ll fall in love with Callan Murphy IMMEDIATELY. So many secrets and plans are revealed on this journey, your head will be spinning in the best kind of way. I would HIGHLY recommend this book! So good!

Open door scenes (not entire chapters): ch. 18, ch. 19, ch. 27

Tropes:
🖤: He’s falls first
🗡️: Female rage
🌱: Elemental magic system
💎: Political Intrigue

✨𝒜𝐿𝒞 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌 ✨

Ivy, the lone female heir, faces vitriol and judgment because she’s a woman. And her kingdom is in peril. Will she withstand the dangers and truths that await her?

Tropes:
🎙️Duet narration
💪🏻Feminist FMC
🥖Burnt cinnamon roll MMC
🛏️One bed/one horse
🤌Feminine rage
💫Magic, prophecies, gods
🙋He falls first
🔥Slow burn romance

The narrators bring this dark and suspenseful story to life. Ivy’s ferocity is brilliantly portrayed and I was burning with rage as must constantly prove herself while always keeping her kingdom’s interests before her own. Captain Callan is brooding and delicious and their connection was laced with so much tension. This spin on fated love between two souls bound by duty and secrets was so captivating.

Blending elements of religion, intrigue, epic fantasy, and slow burn romance, Godsbane is a thrilling installment to a planned duology.

Huge thanks to the author for the audio listening copy. This is my honest and voluntary review

I loved this!!! Gorgeous writing, lush world building, fascinating magic, and dimensional characters. The plot was really well paced and I enjoyed how the reader is along for the ride and discovery process right there with Ivy. The story kept me guessing and I liked that we were in Ivy’s POV: it kept the information level consistent through the story and made for great reveals. Homegirl really goes ~through it~ but stays true to herself. I loved how she was a badass right from the beginning and really had a take-no-shit attitude in a society full of privileged men.
🌶️3

Highly recommend!! Especially if you like: The Crowns of Nyaxia, Throne of Glass, The Sacred Stones

thank you so much to Lindsey for the eARC!

I knew this was going to be five stars after only a few chapters. This is peak fast-paced, totally immersive romantasy with simmering tension and forced proximity done so well. It’s for the lover girls. For the readers who live for a he’d burn the world down for her kind of man. And for anyone who loves a truly badass FMC who’s willing to risk everything. The deeper the story goes, the more twists and revelations unfold, and every one of them landed. I’m already counting down the days to see where book two takes us.

✨Fantasy Romance
✨Reluctant Allies to Lovers
✨War Captain MMC
✨Hidden Magic
✨Bodyguard Trope
✨Political Intrigue
✨Gods, Fate, & Prophecy
✨Strong Female Friendship
✨Tension & Banter

🌶️🌶️
✨One Horse & One Bed
✨Medium Spice
