Accidental Getaway

Rate this book
Sometimes the best comeback… starts with an accidental getaway.

Fired, dumped, and back in her childhood bedroom, Jenni Swanson’s life has officially gone off-plan. Her marketing mojo is missing. Her confidence is shot. And her career needs a miracle—or at least a miracle client.

So, when Jenni’s new boss hands her a high-stakes pitch for luxury client Omorfiá Hotel, she says yes…even if she’s nowhere near ready. The catch? The meeting is face-to-face. In Greece.

To land the deal, Jenni must win over the hotel’s unreasonably attractive general manager, who’s determined to show her the real Mykonos—secret beaches, local tavernas, and all. Steady-eyed and quietly visionary, Niko sees strengths in Jenni she’s long stopped seeing in herself.

But between a deepening crush she can’t shake, panoramic sunsets, and a pitch that feels as stale as yesterday’s spanakopita, Jenni’s past looms back into view. The question will it overshadow her dreams...again?

Accidental Getaway is a Single POV, low spice, romantic comedy full of adventure, swoon-worthy settings, drool-worthy food, and a protagonist who has to learn to silence her past and believe in her future.

4.5 ⭐️ As someone who is still a young professional, but also not a newbie in the corporate world, I really enjoyed this perspective. It’s often a looked-over part of your 20s/30s, where you aren’t as naive as you once were (you cringe at who you were), but can acknowledge you don’t know the right answer always. Jenni’s character sums that up well, all while processing grief of a traumatic relationship.

‘Accidental Getaway’ is a warm hug of a book that gives ‘Emily in Paris’ vibes. It’s funny, but it tugs at the heartstrings…the right balance for a good rom com!

I will say this has me extra excited to visit Greece!

Accidental Getaway by Molly Gray follows Jenni Swanson, a young woman who is rebuilding her life back home in Colorado after a disastrous end to what she believed was her dream life in Chicago. Through a series of events, Jenni finds herself on a plane to Greece to meet with a potential client for her marketing firm. Niko, the general manager of the hotel Jenni’s company is hoping to represent is handsome, kind, and generous, and as the two spend time together, it becomes clear there is more than a business relationship developing. With help from her friends (both stateside and in Greece), Jenni overcomes self-doubt, past mistakes, and her own insecurities to finally go after all that she wants in life.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, but the pieces didn’t quite click for me. I found Jenni to be inconsistent in character, and I just find it hard to believe that she would not have disclosed how abusive Malcolm was in Chicago to even her best friends. It seems like that serious of a situation would have warranted some professional help in the healing process. I also found it too manufactured that she would post a picture of the hotel on her socials the moment she got there when that was literally the only time it was mentioned. I know she is in marketing and she talks about using socials for work, but she herself doesn’t present as someone who would be documenting a trip that way, especially when she is so adamant about it being a work trip at the beginning of the book. I clocked that move and knew it was going to lead to Malcolm reappearing in her life. I liked the idea of her having to come face-to-face with him to gain closure, but I didn’t love the execution of it.

I liked Niko as the romantic interest, but he quite literally seemed too good to be true. I have no idea why Jenni is so plagued with self doubt regarding him; I understand there were meant to be parallels between their way Niko acted and her experience with Malcolm, but Niko is so transparent that I’m not sure why she doesn’t listen to herself when she acknowledges that Niko hasn’t given her any reason to doubt him. Additionally, the shift from professional to personal just felt so fast for me. I would have loved for their relationship to be more established professionally before exploring their feelings.

Despite not being my favorite, I did enjoy the flavor of Greece in this book (baklava, anyone?) and it did reinforce its position on my “places to visit” list.

I was completely swept away by Accidental Getaway — it’s the perfect summer read, but it’s also so much more than that.

First, the setting in Mykonos absolutely stole my heart! The descriptions of the island — the sun, the beaches, the winding alleys, the delicious food — made me feel like I was right there. It’s one of the main reasons I picked up this book, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is vivid and immersive, adding a whole new layer to the story.

The characters are just as wonderful. Jenni is such a relatable protagonist — strong yet vulnerable, doing her best to heal and find herself again. I really appreciated how honestly her journey was portrayed. And Niko? He’s the perfect romantic interest: kind, patient, charming, and attentive. I found myself looking forward to every scene he was in! The secondary characters, like Ana and Alexander, were equally delightful and brought so much warmth and humor — I caught myself laughing out loud more than once.

Beyond the sun and romance, this book bravely explores the aftermath of emotional abuse and the invisible scars it leaves behind. It shows how deeply an abusive relationship can cloud your judgment and shake your sense of reality until you no longer trust your own instincts. Jenni’s story highlights how difficult — yet vital — it is to heal, to see the truth, and to rebuild a life you can trust again.

Accidental Getaway balances heavy, important themes with moments of pure joy, laughter, and hope. It’s a heartfelt, beautifully written reminder that sometimes an unexpected escape can lead you back to yourself.

When Jenni accidentally volunteers to take on a hotel client for her pregnant boss, she’s surprised to learn that the presentation is in Mykonos and she has to leave in a few days. She’s hoping she can finally get her life back on track after she got dumped, fired and moved back into her parents house. As Jenni works with Niko, the charming hotel owner, to win over the hotel board, she finds herself drawn more to Niko and the island. What started as a professional trip soon blossoms into something deeper as Niko helps Jenni discover the true Mykonos and, in turn, her authentic self. The question remains, can Jenni secure the deal and keep Niko in her life?

I LOVED Molly Gray’s portrayal of Niko helping Jenni get a real feel of Mykonos. The imagery was beautiful and I was instantly transported to the shores of Greece and wishing I had my own Greek chef! I really enjoyed the way Jenni worked through her lingering trauma from her prior relationship and how she was supported by those around her in Greece.

For me, this was a 4 star read! It was a quick, easy, fun beach read and I would recommend it to friends! Jenni is a FMC you are rooting for and Niko is a MMC that you can’t help but to instantly fall for. I thought the supporting characters fit perfectly into the vibe of the book. I wish Jenni would have had her break through a little sooner, but only because I wanted more time with her and Niko!

Thank you to Molly Gray for the opportunity to read Accidental Getaway before its release. I truly enjoyed Jenni’s journey.

Accidental Getaway is a short, sweet read that’s perfect for a summer afternoon. It blends quiet personal growth with a light romantic thread and a dreamy Greek island setting that makes it easy to sink into.

Jenni’s life is in shambles after a humiliating public breakup and job loss, and a last-minute work trip feels like her only chance to reset. As she tries to pull herself together professionally, she ends up connecting with Niko, the hotel’s calm and quietly charming general manager. Their relationship develops slowly, with soft moments and gentle encouragement, as Jenni starts to rebuild her confidence and sense of self.

I would have appreciated a little more emotional build-up and clarity from Niko to better ground the romantic arc, but overall the story felt sincere, comforting, and easy to enjoy. The pacing works well, the setting shines, and Jenni’s personal journey feels both relatable and rewarding.

If you are looking for an uplifting, feel-good romance with a soft touch and a setting that practically begs you to book a flight, this is a great one to add to your summer TBR.

Accidental Getaway is a fast-paced romance set against the lush sun-soaked backdrop of Mykonos.
Jenni, recently fired and still reeling from a traumatic past relationship, is trying to get her life back on track. She jumps at the chance to impress her new boss, flying to Greece to meet with a potential new client, only to find out said client is handsome, sweet and completely swoon-worthy. As he shows her all the island has to offer, their professional relationship begins to shift.

The Greek island setting adds a dreamy, escapist quality that pairs well with the story’s themes of healing, second chances and reclaiming your life. The writing is engaging, and the chemistry is light and easy to enjoy. That said, the transition from professional relationship to personal felt fast and a bit underdeveloped, and the resolution came across as somewhat rushed.

While the emotional depth wasn’t quite there for me, it was still an enjoyable read. If you’re in the mood for a quick, scenic romance with heart and healing, this one’s a solid pick for a vacation read.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book! It was just what I needed to read as a break from some fantasy books. It’s lighthearted and fun. It made me laugh out loud several times! Once I got about 2/3 done, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late finishing it!

Jenni is a super relatable character and Molly did an excellent job writing her past trauma. The book made me feel like when I was a teenager and read the sisterhood of the traveling pants. The side characters were excellent! I especially loved Alexander and the ducks!

Most romances have the same general plot where they fall for each other and then have to overcome an obstacle and successfully do. This book has that too but the obstacle was not what I was anticipating it being and it made the book so much better! There were a couple typos that bothered me and I wish that there had been more development of the relationship but those are minor complaints because I honestly loved this book! I also wouldn’t mind if all of my salads now came with a block of feta!

This book is the ultimate rom-com escape — think sun-soaked Greece, career redemption, and slow-burn sparks with a smoldering hotel manager 😍🇬🇷

Jenni Swanson is having a quarter-life crisis 🍕😭 fired, dumped, and stuck in her childhood bedroom. But when she's thrown a once-in-a-lifetime pitch in Mykonos, she grabs her (probably overstuffed) suitcase and takes off ✈️👠

Enter: Niko 😎☀️ the brooding, beautiful hotel manager who serves up Greek charm like it's baklava on a silver platter 🥐✨. He sees Jenni in a way she forgot to see herself strong, smart, and more than enough 💪💕

You’ll adore:
🍋 Breathtaking sunsets + beachy scenes
🍷 Mouthwatering Greek food (you’ll be craving spanakopita by chapter 3)
📈 A heroine rediscovering her voice and confidence
🧿 Flirty moments, accidental adventures, and just the right touch of drama

This book is like a Mediterranean breeze — light, romantic, refreshing, and full of heart 💌🌊

I haven’t read in a few months because life has been heavy. I picked up this book during my trip because I knew I’d have some reading time. It was just what I needed! A fun rom com in a book. I love the setting in Greece. I wish I could hop on a plane now to experience what Jenni had. It felt like I was watching a movie. It also made me reflect on myself and my imposter syndrome. We all feel like we can’t do it even though we’re fully capable. I wanted to shake Jenni and pep her up! Luckily, she had people like Ana and Niko. Everyone needs a friend like Ana.

Accidental Getaway is a perfect summer vacay read - or perfect for anyone who wants to get away vicariously! This book is deliciously sensory. I wanted to stroll sun-drenched Mykonos with Jenni, soak up every view, eat every meal. The sweet (not spicy) romance is redemptive, healing, uplifting. And although the main character is working through a difficult past, which includes abuse and manipulation, the book deals with these topics respectfully and in an ultimately uplifting way. Easy to read and thoroughly delightful!

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fast read, and I honestly couldn’t put it down.

I absolutely love to travel through reading, and this book made me feel like I was in Greece with Jenni & Niko.

Watching Jenni transform throughout the book had me constantly cheering for her. Niko is definitely a golden retriever MMC, and I just loved how supportive and thoughtful he was to Jenni throughout the book.

This is a great romcom that also touches on serious issues, and I highly recommend it!

Accidental Getaway is more than just a captivating read; it's a tender exploration of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of human connection.

One of the most commendable aspects of Accidental Getaway is its sensitive and insightful handling of domestic violence. Gray approaches this difficult topic with sensitivity, touching not only on overt forms of abuse but also on often overlooked types of emotional and psychological manipulation.

The book is a delight for the sense. Gray's descriptions of Greece are nothing short of breathtaking. From the sparkling waters to charming whitewashed villages. You can easily imagine warm breezes, hear the distant chime of church bells, and smell the fragrant bougainvillea.

Accidental Getaway's food descriptions are absolutely mouth-watering. The food almost becomes another character.

Niko is written with depth and authenticity, making him incredibly well-written and believable. He avoids typical romantic tropes, he comes across as genuine, supportive and understanding, his interactions are heartfelt.

Accidental Getaway by Molly Gray is a beautifully written novel that shows a story of resilience, set against the stunning backdrop of Greece. It's a book that entertains and inspires. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a story with heart, depth, and a touch of wanderlust.

Jenni Swanson, 24, had a good job with a top-notch marketing company and was dating the son of the president of the company, Malcolm. He had treated her to some nice things but he had also been cruel and even physically abusive to her. So, when she spoke up with her honest opinion in a meeting one day, Malcolm immediately fired her. Now, she is back living at home with her parents in Colorado. Not wanting to say where she had last worked, she has had to take an administrative assistant position with a marketing firm. At least, she gets to work remote.

When Jenni’s boss, Amber, asks her to go Mykonos Greece to deliver a presentation to Niko Psomas at the Omorfia Hotel, she is shocked and feels so unprepared but knows she will do it to prove that she is capable. Upon arrival, Jenni is so impressed with the 5-star hotel and Niko is so welcoming and more interested in showing her around the island instead of hearing her presentation. In addition, his delightful cousin, Ana, is just as welcoming and she and Jenni bond quickly with Ana sharing her sister’s experience of an abusive husband.

As Jenni and Nico become closer, they enjoy outings and dinners that encompass the beautiful scenery and delicious food of Greece. The people she meets are very kind to her and she is loving her stay. But when someone she never hoped to see again happens upon the scene, her bravado fails her and she finds herself ready to flee once again.

I loved the couple that Jenni and Niko make. The descriptions of the beautiful island and the glorious food made me sigh. I’ve been to Mykonos once and it was just gorgeous as is all of Greece. The bullying described in this book is something that I’m glad was addressed. It needs to stop. Enjoy your trip to Greece.

The ultimate rom-com escape — think sun-soaked Greece, career redemption, and slow-burn sparks with a smoldering hotel manager 😍🇬🇷

Jenni Swanson is in full-blown quarter-life crisis mode: dumped, fired, and back in her childhood bedroom. But when a surprise work opportunity sends her to Mykonos, she jumps at the chance to prove herself — and maybe find some peace along the way.

Enter Niko: charming, grounded, and very easy to fall for. As he introduces Jenni to the heart of the island, he also helps her reconnect with who she really is. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but so is Jenni’s need to stand on her own two feet again.

I loved how Molly Gray brought Mykonos to life — the setting was so vivid and dreamy, I wanted to book a flight immediately. The Greek food, the sunsets, the energy of the island — all of it made for the perfect summer escape. Jenni’s emotional growth felt authentic, and watching her heal and rebuild was really satisfying. And Niko? A swoony, soulful dream.

I do wish Jenni’s big breakthrough had come a bit earlier so we had more time with her and Niko together — but honestly, that’s only because I didn’t want it to end.

4 stars! A quick, heartfelt beach read with romance, self-discovery, and just the right amount of spice. Fans of Emily Henry or One Italian Summer will adore this one.

Great debut novel from Molly Gray! Very Hallmark channel meets Eat, Pray, Love -Greece edition.
I think this would be a wonderful book to share with young women in their mid to late teens and here’s why-
⭐️ The FMC is in her 20s
⭐️ This book highlights the negative effects of toxic relationships and the struggle to start over and heal after a traumatic situation.
⭐️ This book also highlights what a healthy relationship should look like.
⭐️ This is a ‘closed door’ romance, so just a little kissing and nothing explicit which would make it appropriate for a younger audience to consume as well.
⭐️ Clean language
⭐️ All of the female characters are wonderful examples of women supporting women.

Jenni is a very relatable character when it comes to her overthinking & self doubt. However I personally had a hard time really connecting with and caring about a majority of the characters and found the chemistry and relationship between Jenni and Niko to be lackluster (I did mention this had Hallmark vibes & I’m just not a Hallmark girly), hence the 4 stars. I do think Molly Gray is a good writer, you could tell her knowledge about what she was writing about was either well researched or experienced and I really appreciated that she isn’t repetitive with certain words or phrases. I’d be interested in reading future books to see how she develops her writing style.

Would I recommend? YES
I was never against visiting Greece but to be honest this story might have moved Greece to my top 5 vacation spots I want to visit. Especially if the food is as amazing as it was mentioned.
The story follows Jenni Swanson, after being fired, dumped, and living back at her childhood home as an assistant in a marketing firm. She is miserable and missing her confidence, but she jumps to an opportunity in the spur of the moment to take over her boss to pitch a marketing plan for a resort in Mykonos. As expected from the cover, Jenni is met with an unreasonably attractive resort manager, Niko, and she gets a personal tour guide to Mykonos in the process. However Jenni will need to fight all the trauma of her past relationship and past job in the process of her gaining her confidence back.
With that said Jenni is a clumsy, mumbling, nervous mess and I love her for it. can you imagine getting stung by a jellyfish while in a topless beach. Yeah, I was secondhand embarrassed and that was only the first half of her experience. Jenni and Niko are surrounded by an array of supporting characters that were adorable including Piper, Jenni’s best friend and Ana, Niko’s cousin.

Accidental getaway is a fast-paced story perfect for summer. it is a story about a woman overcoming past trauma and learning to love and forgive herself in the atmospheric setting of Mykonos, greece, while maybe finding a little love as well. it is full of fun adventures, loveable characters and so much food it will make you hungry.

i truly enjoyed this story, seeing how far Jenni comes throughout was lovely. Her journey of self discovery was so well done in my opinion. while this is a love story, that wasn't the main focus for me. Jenni learning that she can take a breath and the world isn't going to end and everything is not her fault was. Niko was also a breath of fresh air from all the brooding billionaires i usually read about. His support and respectfulness of Jenni was nice to see.

I do think my only issue with this story isn't really with the story itself but me as a person who cant handle awkwardness. Jenni is a very clumsy character and very anxious. and as an anxious person myself i felt very represented with her thoughts but her actions caused me some second hand embarrassment.

Accidental Getaway was a light, summery read. It was easy to get through, but not quite what I was expecting. The storyline was fairly predictable, especially in terms of the romance. It was clear early on who the love interest would be.

That said, I did enjoy certain aspects. The duck situation felt a bit odd at first, but I grew to appreciate it once the idea behind them became clear. It turned out to be a really sweet detail that really added to the story for me.

I felt a lot of sympathy for Jenni, the main character. But for me, the real standout was Ana, Niko’s cousin. She was fierce, loyal, and brought a much-needed spark to the cast.

While the book overall felt fairly basic (there is no spice and nothing particularly stood out to me for most of the story) the final few chapters delivered a twist I truly didn’t see coming, and I loved that surprise element at the end.

If you’re in the mood for an easy, no-stress, romantic escape, this might be the perfect fit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GENRE
-contemporary romance

CkONTENT
-🤬: minimal mild language (1 d, 1 h)
-❤️: kisses, some mild innuendo, one instance of vaguely implied intimacy between an unmarried couple
-⚠️: psychologically and mildly physically abusive & manipulative ex-boyfriend, a humorous topless scene (because nudity on beaches is culturally acceptable in Greece, but our girl is uncomfortable)

This is a really cute debut novel! The whole story takes place in three weeks, so it’s definitely an instalove vibe.

The novel has only Jenni’s point of view, and I loved seeing her growth! It took a while, but she finally found her confidence and took back her power.

Niko was just the sweetest. His kindness and sincerity? Chef’s kiss.

I will say that I wish there would’ve been more build up before Jenni and Niko’s first kiss. I didn’t feel like they had flirted much or shown much interest (besides basic concern) before they were really liking each other.

If you're looking for a light, breezy escape this summer, The Accidental Getaway is the perfect pick. This charming story follows a girl who, through a mix-up, accidentally volunteers to work with a client in Greece, what a dream, right? What starts as a professional mishap quickly turns into a sun-soaked adventure full of heart, humor, and romance.

The Greek setting absolutely shines in this book, it made me want to book a flight immediately. The story is easy to get into, with a fun, likable female lead and plenty of cute, feel-good moments that make it hard to put down.

This is definitely one of those books that makes you smile from start to finish. It’s not overly complex, which makes it a perfect holiday or weekend read. If you love romantic comedies and summer vibes, I definitely recommend Accidental Getaway. It’s a delightful escape in book form! Oh and look out for the ducks!

I actually was gifted this book for Christmas by a good friend of the author. I typically read multiple books at a time and at the time I was reading "Accidental Getaway" I was also listening to an audiobook by a successful author with multiple books and a movie deal. The stories mirrored each other quite a bit (different characters, settings, situations), but this one was a lot cleaner.

It was a fun story with fun characters. It talked about emotional abuse and lack of self confidence. There were moments that were unrealistic, and since it was a self published books there were many spelling/typing errors, but it was still fun to read a debut book that was well worth all the work that went into it.

Some romance, but the steam took place off the page, and as I said before some emotional abuse.

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

This was a great armchair vacation read. I love the descriptions of Mykonos. I was instantly transported to Greece. The characters were well written, Ana being one of my favorites. The plot was fast paced and didn’t lag any. My attention was kept the whole time. This book does deal with some hard topics that I appreciate the author giving warning about at the beginning of the book. She wrote each topic with respect which I appreciated. There were a couple aspects of the novel that I personally don’t prefer to read about, but those things did not take away from my reading experience. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this novel and getting a reading escape to Greece.

Molly Gray has crafted something truly special with Accidental Getaway, a book that transported me into the story completely from the very first page.

Gray takes the time to let her characters breathe and grow, creating people who feel genuinely real rather than plot devices. Each character arc feels earned and authentic, drawing you deeper into their world with every chapter.

Accidental Getaway is the kind of book that is impossible to put down. If you're looking for a story that combines beautiful writing, compelling characters, and a setting so you'll want to book a trip to Greece immediately, this is absolutely the book for you.

I’d love to see a sequel and have more insights into how these characters develop even further.
I hope there is more in the works!

What a great book! Life is really busy and finding time to sit down to read is very hard. Even harder is finding a book that really draws you in that you don't want to put down. Accidental Getaway solves this problem! I really like traveling and this book described travel to Mykonos so vividly you could imagine yourself there amongst the characters sitting on the beach or eating at the restaurant next to them. The characters each have their own charm and you feel like you get to know them quickly and understand their background, challenges, dilemmas, and are excited to see what happens next in each step of the way.

Molly Gray's debut novel is a beautifully written story about a woman finding her confidence first, and finding love second. I fell in love with Jenni from the very first page, and found myself rooting for her as she tackled finding herself again after life and love disappointed her. Add to that a book that brings the reader to Greece with mouthwatering food and yes, another chance at love, and you have a recipe for a perfect summer read! Highly recommend this book for anyone who has stumbled in life and struggled to pick yourself up again. You'll see much of yourself in our heroine, and be ready to pack your bags for Greece before you even finish the book!

Classic rom-com set in beautiful Colorado and Greece. There are some serious themes of past emotional abuse and could be triggering. Jenni is 24 years old, living at home and working as an assistant at a small marketing firm. She has been through some things and came home to Colorado to sort herself out. She ends up in Greece to pitch a campaign for a boutique hotel and meets Niko. I won't say more but things get super cute, funny and serious.
Great debut novel by Molly Gray. Can't wait to read what she writes next.
Oh and don't forget to scan the QR Code in the book for an additional scene!!

I loved this book. This is the first I have read from this other and will be looking at her other books. This book is about healing and finding the right person at the right time. The plan you thought your life might take can change and find out you don’t need to be in a box but have the freedom to live your life .

The book is centered in the marketing world. Fmc went from big corporate firm to a small personalized one .

I loved the different characters . Ana was soo great sorted and Alexander was just adorable
