Tessa Gunter just received the worst news of all, her mom has cancer. With the life altering news, Tessa begins packing up the life she built for herself over the last decade and returns home. Finding herself not only back in her childhood home living with her parents, she's forced to watch the cancer steal her best friend, her confidant, her mother. But providing comfort is tricky since his heart already belongs to Tessa.
Will Tessa find herself grieving alone or will she open up and let Graham comfort her through it?
If you're looking for a book that will pull at your heartstrings while giving you a happily ever after, look no further than Falling Apart Together.
First off, thank you for letting me have this beautiful book as an ARC
This book was emotional but beautiful as it follows the journey of Tessa and her family learn to deal with her mums terminal cancer diagnosis and the challenges they all face nearer the end of her life.
It did make me extra emosh as I’ve lost a parent so could relate to Tessa a lot, Ive also lost loved ones to cancer so watching Tessa, Paul & Graham try to get through that is so relatable and heart breaking knowing that people are going through what you’ve been through and its so horrible and shows life’s so so short and time is never guaranteed.
It brought Tessa & Graham together again which I thought was so beautiful but was in heartbreaking circumstances, however I loved reading about their story and how they learned to lean on and support each other through it all which then led to them feeling other feelings for each other. Beautiful book
First off, a huge thank you to the author for allowing me to be part of her ARC team.
This book was incredible—I devoured it in less than 24 hours. By the time I reached Chapter 57, I found myself purposely slowing down because I didn’t want it to end. The story takes you through the raw realities of grief and cancer, and how deeply it affects not just the person going through it, but everyone around them.
It hit especially close to home for me, as I lost my mother to cancer. Reading this brought up so many emotions. I’ve realized that my own grief often shows up in anticipation—I start mourning before things happen—so when they finally do, I don’t feel it as sharply. This book helped me process that in ways I didn’t expect, and for that, I’m so grateful.
On top of the emotional depth, Graham is such an amazing MMC. The way he loves and supports Tessa, helping her navigate the heartbreak of losing her mother both before and after her passing, truly stood out. Yes, it’s a heavy story, but it’s also filled with hope, an unforgettable romance, and some seriously amazing smut.
This book was so much more than I imagined—and it’s one that will stay with me.
This book is a vibe . It carries pain , sanity , romance , tragedy, healing , love . It was such a wholesome book and a wholesome read tbh . I was craving for such read since a long time now and I'm happy I got the ARC .
So we have Tessa (The FMC) who is going through a lot and Lil bit unsteady in terms of emotions and then we have Graham (The MMC) who is her childhood friend and have a crush on her but Tessa is unable to collect her thoughts and emotions because of the situation she is going through. But all she need is a man like Graham to be there for her no matter what . 💜
P.s. - I genuinely loved how this book explores the relationship of Graham and Tessa's mother's as well . It was a win for me .
Final verdict - If you want a that will break your heart and but also heal your heart at the same time , this book is definitely for you . 💜
I’m so grateful to be part of the ARC team and to have had the chance to read Falling Apart Together before release! This debut is truly beautiful—woven with heartbreaking moments, deep emotions, and an abundance of love.
I absolutely adored Graham! He is the definition of perfection, the kind of book boyfriend we all dream of. Tessa was harder for me to understand at first, but that only speaks to how raw and real her grief was. Losing someone so close isn’t easy to put into words, and J.B. Lee captured that struggle with honesty.
The short chapters and dual POV made this story such a smooth and engaging read—I binged it in no time! I can’t wait to see what J.B. Lee writes next.
💔 A heartfelt, emotional, and promising debut. Highly recommend!
Thanks so much for J.B Lee and Beyond Books for the ARC copy!
This book has been overwhelming in so many ways as it sometimes reminded me of personal experiences and how I related to the situation. It was very emotional at some points I just turned my kindle faced down but then continued nonetheless!
Tessa has such a strong character and I admire how she dealt with loss and went through a grieving process, luckily there was Graham who was literally the light at the end of the tunnel!
This book has given me so much and I am so glad I have read it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am so incredibly happy to have been apart of J.B. Lee’s ARC team. This book was everything I wanted and more. I love how one page a I would be laughing and the next I would be crying. I loved each and every character and how they fit in the story. I loved Tessa and Graham’s relationship and how it reflected some of Tessa’s parents, Paul and Sherri’s, relationship. I cannot want to see what J.B. Lee writes next. I am hoping that some of the other characters get their own book. Either way I know J.B. Lee’s next book is going to be soooooo good. 💜
"you can grieve the loss of someone and still be happy." losing a parent is never easy, and this one hit home for me because at a young age I lost my dad. learning to find happiness after a loss is incredibly hard, and you still will always think about the person you lost and all the memories you shared while also navigating joy in your life.
this book was beautifully written with lots of different emotions to take you through. I was sad, laughing, swooning, crying, happy, all the feelings. I adored this book so much and all the characters, and I am thrilled to learn there will be more from you, Jb!
If you need a good emotional cry, this is your book. wow I cried so much reading it, but I also laughed and had appropriate spice added. The storyline was definitely hard hitting but had amazing reality of what someone has to go through when losing people they love. please ready any trigger warnings. I loved the characters and the love they all have for eachother. I didnt want the book to end towards the end.
Falling Apart Together is an emotional story about love, loss and healing. The book shows grief in a very honest way. It is told from the points of view of Tessa and Graham, which makes us understand how each person deals with pain and sadness in different ways, some go silent, some try to take care of others, and some hold on to small moments of joy.
This story is written in a way that feels so real. The way Tessa’s mother’s illness is written is very touching and feels very close to real life. The romance between Tessa and Graham is not shown as an easy way out of pain. It is confusing, uncertain, and sometimes hard, which makes it feel real.
This is not a light or fun romance. Readers who want something simple and cheerful may find it heavy. But for those who like deep and emotional stories, Falling Apart Together gives the message that healing does not mean forgetting, and sometimes breaking down is the way to find strength again.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An emotional, beautifully written story about love, loss, and finding hope again.
Falling Apart Together completely broke my heart and then slowly pieced it back together. Tessa’s journey through grief felt so raw and real—every emotion, every tear, every moment of denial and hope leapt off the page. Watching her return home to care for her mom was gut-wrenching, but also filled with quiet, beautiful moments of love and connection.
And then there’s Graham—sweet, loyal, and the kind of man every reader will fall for. His love for Tessa is steady and selfless, the perfect balance to her heartbreak. Their chemistry is undeniable, but what really stands out is how their friendship becomes the foundation for healing.
This isn’t just a romance—it’s a story about finding light in the darkest times, about how love doesn’t fix everything but makes it all a little more bearable. If you’re looking for a story that makes you feel deeply and leaves you with hope, Falling Apart Together is it.
I’m in tears. 💔 This book was beautiful in every way.
Tessa Gunter had just received the worst news imaginable: her mom had cancer. That devastating diagnosis pulled her away from the life she had built over the last decade and back home, where she found herself not only living with her parents again but also watching cancer slowly steal her best friend, her confidant, her mother. 😭 The pain in those pages was raw and so real, but woven into it was something achingly hopeful.
Graham Link, Tessa’s childhood friend—and the one man who never stopped caring for her—was such a stand-out MMC. 💕 His support, his quiet strength, and the way he showed up for Tessa as she navigated anticipatory grief and heartbreaking loss completely melted me. The way he loved her, even when she was too overwhelmed to love herself, was unforgettable. Their chemistry was undeniable, and while the story was heavy with grief, it also gave us tender romance, healing, and yes… some seriously amazing smut 🔥 that balanced the sadness with beauty.
✨ Tropes you’ll find inside: 👩❤️👨 Childhood friends to lovers 🏡 Small town setting ❤️🩹 Grief & healing 🛏️ Forced proximity 🤝 Found family 🔥💋 Emotional romance
Yes, it was heart-wrenching and emotional. But it was also filled with love, healing, and hope. 🌹 Tessa’s resilience and Graham’s unwavering devotion made this story unforgettable. It wasn’t just a romance—it was about family, loss, and learning to let love back in when the world feels like it’s falling apart.
This was so much more than I ever imagined, and it will stay with me for a long, long time. Thank you, J.B. Lee, and Beyond The Books, for the ARC opportunity. 💜
I literally went into this book with no expectations... Well it just kicked me in the heart, because whew was this book soo much more. To preface this book is predominately about grief, but also acceptance of terminal illness, healing & yes of course romance. Its safe to say this book is not your typical steamy novel. It is heavily emphasized on devastation, but JB wrote this story in a way that not only felt relatable- family, friends, etc... while still giving us that slow burn of second chance love we want for Graham & Tessa. Along with some lil morsels of humor & a few warm fuzzies as their relationship blossoms the story evoked so many emotions. Learning that its never too soon to be happy. Also a BIG shout out to the small details & nuggets about body positivity & "embracing ones curves". I LOVE that these characters were written & described as normal humans, with different body types, i/o your a-typical "hottie" with a fantastic body. Someone's attractiveness is subjective & I appreciate how JB wrote our MC's as unperfect. Imma just say this, I WISH I had a Mr. Graham as my teacher😮💨🔥🔥 If I had 1 bone to pick it actually just felt like a few of the chapters kind of ended abruptly? But then you'd get the other characters POV at the start of another chapter to pick up the trail. Honestly overall I was pleasantly surprised with how much I ended up loving this book! Thanks BRB for sending me this ARC it was soo good!

Thank you to J.B. Lee for the opportunity to read this touching book!
Tessa's world is turned upside down when she learns that her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She drops everything and moves back home to care for her mother and support her dad through it all. But will it prove to be more than she can handle?
Graham learns that his mentor and dear friend is dying. He struggles to come to terms with the fact his mother figure is leaving, but learns that his childhood crush, her daughter, has moved back to town to care for her. Will they be able to lean on each other in this time of grief?
J.B. Lee does an amazing job of laying out the emotional Rollercoaster one experience when learning their patent/loved one is dying. There is so much hurt and anger in these characters, but at the same time they're learning to seek comfort and learn that it is ok to find the happiness, even in the darkest of times.
This book is such a beautiful story about loss, grief, healing, and love.

"My attraction to you goes further than you living with me, it’s about what makes you happy, even if I wasn’t the one that was making you so."
"You don’t have to thank me, Tessa. I would do anything to help you feel happy. Just say the word.”
"Do you think it’s possible to love someone because of the comfort they bring you? Like, if being in someone’s presence makes you feel peace, when otherwise you feel so much unease.”
I received an advanced copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The above opinions are my own.
First of thank you so much for making me part of the ARC team for Falling Apart Together. This book had me emotionally bracing myself from just reading the prologue. I knew I was going to be in for an emotional ride since one of the tropes is grief/healing, and a few chapters in & I was heartbroken for Tessa. Her sobs were felt beyond the pages of the book and I can’t imagine ever losing a best friend, let alone it being your mother. 😭
-After years of living away from home, Tessa receives news that her mother, Sherri, has cancer, so she drops everything to move back to her hometown to be there every step of the way. But she’s not the only one, Graham, a childhood friend to Tessa and fellow teacher to Sherri, has also received the news and has made it his mission to help out and provide comfort for Sherri, Tessa, and even Paul, Tessa’s father.-
Wow, I loved the relationship between Graham & Sherri had, the mother/son dynamic was refreshing and beautiful. He was beyond patient, attentive, loving, and understanding and exactly who Tessa needed during this heart-rending time. I seriously had to compose myself because this book can definitely resonate with so many people dealing with grief especially after losing a loved one, and that there’s no timeframe for healing. It was a beautiful story and loved their HEA. I’m excited for Paul’s novella. 💕
Falling Apart Together by J.B. Lee completely captivated me. Lee has crafted a beautifully moving story about grief, healing, and love. The book explores not only the impact of cancer on the person enduring it but also the profound emotional ripple effects it has on everyone around them. The storyline is compelling, and the characters are exceptionally well-developed and the spice definitely adds heat
Graham Link, Tessa’s childhood friend who never stopped caring for her, is such a standout character. His unwavering support and love for Tessa as she navigates the heartbreak of losing her mom is deeply touching. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their relationship feels authentic, tender, and intimate—their connection rooted in genuine love and emotional support.
Tessa herself is a strong and resilient character, and watching her growth throughout the story is inspiring. Her journey through loss is raw and real, and I’m so glad she had Graham by her side.
This story will stay with me for a long time. If you’re looking for a book that tugs at your heartstrings while delivering a satisfying, emotional happily ever after—Falling Apart Together is a must-read.

Huge thanks to J.B. Lee and Beyond The Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. 🖤
Falling Apart Together by J.B. Lee is a devastatingly beautiful story of grief, love, and healing that will stay with me for a long time.
Tessa Gunter’s life is turned upside down when her mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Returning home to face the heartbreak of watching her best friend and confidant slip away, Tessa finds unexpected strength, and comfort in Graham Link, her childhood friend who never stopped caring for her.
This story is raw, emotional, and incredibly moving. It captures the painful reality of loss while weaving in threads of hope, love, and second chances. Graham’s quiet strength and unwavering support for Tessa make him an unforgettable MMC, and the chemistry between them is both tender and passionate.
J.B. Lee beautifully balances the heartbreak of grief with moments of warmth, healing, and connection. It’s more than a romance, it’s about family, loss, resilience, and finding light again when everything feels dark.

Thank you to J.B. Lee and Beyond The Books for the ARC. Falling Apart Together is an unforgettable story that reminds us that even in our darkest moments, love can still bring us home.
This book absolutely wrecked me! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that had me crying so much. Everything about this book is so beautifully wrote. Even the rough topics were discussed with such grace. You can feel the emotion that went into this book with every chapter.
The love story intertwined in this story was astounding as it grew slowly into a type of love that we all want. Graham was a safe spot for Tessa as she went through one of the worst times of her life. This man was so supportive often times just lending his shoulder for her to cry on. Their love transformed into something so genuine and beautiful; exactly like what Tessa’s parents had together.
The grief and sadness that Tessa experienced could be felt so strongly. There was many times that the emotion was raw enough that I cried reading. Tessa is so strong as she navigates life without someone she considered her whole entire world. The tender moments that she has with Graham were heartfelt and full of pure love. Watching her fall in love with Graham after navigating grief and loss was beautiful.
Even though this story has some rough themes to navigate, I think everything was wrote in a very heartfelt manner. Even Paul’s emotions as he navigated life after loss were raw and genuine.
Always remember mother knows best. 5 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶️ This book hit home for me. It’s so raw and beautiful, it goes through all the emotions of loving someone who is sick and you’re unable to help them and trying to cope with your own emotions. I lost my mother but due to mental illness not cancer so yes it was different and we didn’t know when it was going to happen but the emotions I felt with this book hit a whole new level. The first half maybe 75% is little difficult to get through due to the realistic setting but that other 25% is definitely a great wrap up. The way this love story unfolds in such a raw and beautiful way was chefs kiss for this book. To have your parents love and support even after life is so overwhelming and beautiful. To watch someone you love and go through this and it to happen so quickly is real life. Not all story’s are just story’s this book is way more realistic. & going through the grief process and having someone to hold you through it all is very rare. I love how intertwined they all were and I cannot wait for Paul’s story next. I love an epilogue that doesn’t leave you hanging, it ties everything up beautifully.
Wow. This book broke me. I cried so much it hit home in so many ways. My mom was suddenly diagnosed with cancer over 5 years ago and it rocked my world. Thankfully chemo worked for my mom and she is 100% cancer free now. However I remember being in Tessa’s shoes and feeling all the things and going to treatment with my mom. The author did a great job describing what this is like. I also loved Tessa and Grahams relationship and love story it was so beautifully done and I love how everything played out. I can’t wait for Paul’s novella 🙈 thank you for trusting me with an ARC I loved it 🤍

Wow. This book hit me right in the heart. From the first few pages, I knew Falling Apart Together was going to hurt a little but in the best way.
J.B. Lee writes grief, love, and healing with such quiet honesty. Tessa’s story feels so raw and real — watching her return home, face her past, and learn how to let people in again was both painful and beautiful. And Graham? Absolute perfection. Steady, patient, and just flawed enough to feel real. Their connection builds so naturally — not through grand gestures, but through small, intimate moments that make you ache a little.
This isn’t just a romance. It’s about what it means to keep going when everything around you feels like it’s falling apart. It’s about choosing hope — and finding the courage to love again, even when it hurts.
I adored the emotional depth, the lyrical writing, and the way every scene felt so lived-in. My only tiny complaint is that some slower sections could’ve been tightened up, but honestly? I didn’t even mind. I was too busy feeling everything.
I absolutely adored Falling Apart Together, by J.B. Lee. This book expertly navigates the grief of losing parent , the guilt of not being there for them all the time and the feelings that come from eventually trying to heal from that loss. This author just has a way with storytelling so you feel apart of the story.
There is so much in this book, and I’m not about to spoil it for you, but let’s just say a mother’s love never gives up…even while she is fighting for her life. Enter sweet Graham (and his pies! lol) I absolutely loved this character. He was such a constant in their lives…even before Tessa moved back to be closer to her parents. Tessa finds herself drawn to him for his comfort and then, more. (And believe me…that “more” is spicy and totally hot, hot, hot.)
I thought J.B. handled the sensitive nature of this book perfectly. Losing a parent is truly so hard but this author wrote Tessa and Graham’s story with grace and compassion and as someone who has experienced much of what Tessa did, it was much appreciated.
This book made me laugh, ugly cry and ultimately healed me in the end…as well as making me feel not as alone in my own feelings of guilt and grief.
Thank you to J.B. Lee for the honor of BETA reading this amazing book.
For starters, I just want to say…it has been an absolute privilege to be a part of J.B. Lee’s ARC team. This book was absolutely incredible. So emotional. So beautifully written. One minute I’m laughing out loud…the next I’m blushing at the spice 🤭..and then I have tears streaming down my face. I felt every single emotion I was meant to feel. Every character in this story felt so real and added something so special. From Paul and Sherri to Nelly and Bennett, each one holds such a special place in my heart. Tessa was such a strong FMC. Her growth throughout the story was amazing. And then there’s Graham. Ahhh, Graham, Graham, Graham 😍 He is such an amazing MMC. His love. His support. His heart. I adored his relationship with Tessa’s parents just as much as I adored his relationship with her. He fit so perfectly. And the chemistry between the two… whew 🥵 If you love a book that makes you feel all the feels, I highly recommend Falling Apart Together!
From page one, Falling Apart Together pulled me into its emotional depths. When Tessa is suddenly forced to return home after her mother’s devastating cancer diagnosis, her life’s foundation unravels. The narrative doesn’t shy away from grief’s rawness: confusion, anger, heartbreak. You feel Tessa’s panic and numbness as her world shifts.
Graham’s reentry into her life is tender and bittersweet. He’s strong without being perfect, doing his best to comfort her while battling his own fears and regrets. Their chemistry is familiar yet heartbreaking—old feelings resurfacing at the worst possible time. The author balances moments of grief and hope beautifully: scenes of quiet heartbreak are interwoven with small, healing gestures (a shared silence, a steady hand).
A few scenes left me holding my breath, especially as the reality of loss looms. I appreciated how the story didn’t pretend grief is linear; there are setbacks, tears, miscommunications. But through it all, the bond between Tessa and Graham becomes an anchor. The ending is emotional and uplifting — the kind that lingers in your chest long after the last page.
Highlights: • Emotional authenticity — I cried, I ached, I also smiled at the little moments. • Realistic portrayal of grief, love, and second chances. • Strong character development — both lead characters feel human, flawed, and hopeful.
Overall, Falling Apart Together is a deeply moving read. It’s one of those books that reminds you love can heal even when everything else seems to crumble.

When Tessa returns home after learning her mother has cancer, she must confront the past and the people she left behind – including her childhood friend Graham.
It's a heartwarming story of love, loss, and finding strength through connection.
This book beautifully explores grief, family bonds, and second chances.
It's emotional, tender, and filled with moments that remind you how pain can sometimes bring people closer.
The author's writing is simple and passionate, perfectly depicting how love can survive even in loss.
The main characters feel incredibly real, and the supporting characters add warmth and balance to the heavy theme.
This book will make you cry more than once, just as it did me.
Overall, this is a slow-paced story that takes its time to unfold but stays with you. It's a poignant read for anyone who enjoys emotional contemporary novels and stories of healing and love after loss.
Some books stay with you for a little while and some will stay for a lifetime. This book is a lifetime book. I would challenge anyone to read this book and not finish it with a tear in their eye at minimum.
The authors note completely stuck with me throughout my read, please dont ignore this part! I dont think anyone could capture the brutal honesty that comes with grief without having experienced it. My reading experience was better for having read the note.
The main character, Tessa, goes through one of the hardest challenges a person can face and the author conveys this in such a beautiful way. It’s raw, its honest and at parts completely heartbreaking. The author does an amazing job of balancing the hurt and the guilt Tessa faces throughout the book. Having struggled with depression, I completely resonated with the character when they describe that guilt that comes with feeling ok when you think you shouldn’t.
What I really loved about this book was not just how the author handled Tessa’s grief, but also how it handled her dad’s grief. I think people often have an idea of what grief looks like or how it should be experienced. This book does such an amazing job at highlighting how grief looks and is experienced differently for everyone.
This is not just a story about grief and loss, there is also a top tier childhood friends to lovers romance going on. May we all have the love and support of a man like Graham in our lives. Also major credit for the spice, how a book can handle the topic of grief so well but still have that level of spice in such a balanced way is beyond me.

First of all I would like to thank @beyondthebookspr to consider me for your arc team.
This is one of the books that could make me cry whenever I read it ( in a good way) it's an emotional rollercoaster, heartbreak, grief, but also gives us a way for healing, moving on and hope for happiness in life.
The characters are well written and the dual POVs gave an amazing look towards both sides. Tessa & Graham's chemistry is firee. The romance, the emotional attachment, the comfort is beyond words. How beautifully written. The bond that Graham and Tessa's parents share is so pure and so amazing. The acceptance of him as a family in their house is just so heartbreakingly beautiful ❤️.
Paul and Sherri, the understanding, maturity, and the way these two loves their daughter is phenomenal. So accepting.
This is one of those books that is emotional and beautiful story. Falling Apart Together is about dealing with and moving on from grieve. The sickness that is being dealt with in this book is cancer and J.B. Lee did a great job telling the story of the loves having and the toll it takes on them to watch the person they love go through cancer. The FMC is Tessa and MMC is Graham. Throughout the book you watch the relationship between Tessa and Graham and see how much Graham cares for Tessa. He is there for every step of the way.
Falling Apart Together is well written and told at good pace. It’s an emotional story that will cause tears but it not all sad. There are parts of that bring hope, that are happy, and are steamy. The steamy scenes were will written. Overall, Falling Apart Together is great book that hits on all points. It’s story that has hook from the first page.
Trigger warning: this book contains themes of cancer, grief, and depression — read with care.
The novel begins with Tessa getting an unexpected call that sends her back to her childhood town after a decade away. What follows is a slow, honest look at how illness reshapes family life: Tessa moves in with a childhood friend, Graham, and the space he offers exposes parts of herself she’d been avoiding. Depression takes hold; the family confronts the loss they feared would come, only sooner than anyone expected. The strength of the story is its restraint. It doesn’t rush grief or tidy it into neat lessons — instead it shows small, real moments. The book closes with a clear hint that Paul, Tessa’s dad, will be at the center of the next story, which feels right. If you’ve lived through caregiving or loss, this will likely resonate with you.
This book wrecked me in the best way. I have personal history with a cancer diagnosis in my immediate family, so I can relate to what they were feeling in the beginning. The unknown is so scary and I cried for them and along with them during this book. I can't imagine the emotional toll it takes on a person having to watch them suffer and die like Tessa had to see in her mom. Graham was truly my favorite character in this book. Not only did he have a sweet relationship of his own with her parents since they were more like his parents than his own, but he knew that Tessa was the crush that got away. The way he was there for her during this time and also there for her parents by doing anything they might need to make the situation a little better was just so sweet. I will be thinking about this book for many days to come because it was so emotionally compelling.
