YOU’RE THE ONLY PERSON I COULD THINK OF TO SAVE BEN
The series is a set of clean, historical stories that each reads as a stand-alone. They all will revolve around a fatherless child and a man who steps up. The story will have some mystery, secrets, and second chances. In the end, it brings happiness to the main characters involved.
The story begins in the 1880s in San Francisco, California. Two friends, Gloria and Emma Marsh, are talking about another lady, Sadie, who had a child with a rich and influential man, George Reid. He was a married man who didn’t mind preying on young women. The child, a boy, now four years old, named Ben, is living at The Good Care Live-In School and Orphanage. The problem is that Sadie has passed away, and now George, too, is deceased. This leaves Ben at the mercy of Good Care. Gloria has Sadie’s few possessions, including legal paperwork.
“It’s some legal document stating that a Mr. George Reid of San Francisco would be responsible for paying for the support of Benjamin Jenkins, at The Good Care Live-In School and Orphanage. If something were to happen to him, Travis Reid from Virginia City would take over the responsibility for the child’s support.”
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil. Gloria is leaving with family for Wyoming, and that leaves only Emma to rescue Ben—but how? With the assistance of her weekend employer, Gus Lempriere, she explains the dilemma, and when he hears more about an auction for rich men to buy this little boy—he must act. Together, they plot out a plan, and once Ben is free of the home, they must leave San Francisco and travel to Virginia City.
I was engrossed in this tale of the rescue of an innocent child and giving him a future. Ben takes to Emma quickly, probably missing having a caring person in his life, and even calls her ma. What will happen when she arrives in Nevada and finds Travis Reid? Sometimes unscrupulous deeds must happen when a life is on the line—and Ben’s life is in peril. What happens when two people, Emma and Travis, both want Ben in their lives? Is a future set so that everyone has happiness?
NOTE: I read this book with my paid subscription to Kindle Unlimited.
Emma is my hero, her bravery, determination and willingness to rescue and love Ben has me liking and respecting her. Equally Travis earns your respect and love too when he doesn't hesitate believe Emma and accept Ben, he is a little harsh initially but quickly changes his tone and actions when he hears the horrific tale Emma has for him and sees the evidence of abuse with his own eyes. This is a really sweet and heartwarming tale that shows second chances are possible and blended families can also be packed with love and happiness. I also really like Gus, as a support character he is great....fun, smart and just as brave as Emma. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Emma didn’t appreciate or trust men in general. When she finds out about an orphaned boy who was about to be sold to a terrible man by the wicked matron, Emma steps up. Finding out Ben has a relative named Travis, Emma seeks him out. Little did she expect how things would end.
Emma rescued little Ben from an orphanage that was abusive and getting ready to sell him. Emma traveled out west with Ben to meet Travis, Ben's Uncle. Emma was hoping he could help raise him. But, they got so much more. They found family. Great Story and Series.
