Newly eighteen-year-old Moriana "Mori" Albright was ripped from her ordinary life and thrown into the dangerous world of the fae realm. With no way home, she's forced to inherit a throne she doesn't want and its mysterious power she barely understands. Hated and mistrusted by the fae folk who see her as an unworthy human, Mori has to fight to earn their respect while struggling to master the royal magic that could be her downfall.
Just as she began to accept her destiny, a merciless raider king emerged, determined to steal her power and reignite an ancient war she's not ready to oppose. With the forest crumbling around her and enemies closing in, she'll have to decide who she's willing to become and prove she's more than a stolen outsider. Because if she can't prove she belongs, she won't just lose the crown—she'll lose everything. This is the only way to survive and save a world that never wanted her to begin with.
This book is about Mori a teen who was adopted as a baby and finds out she is a royal from another realm. She has powers of growing plants, and being in touch with nature. She searches to find her mother, then with companions to help guide her she heals the forest and works to fight the raider king. This book was a cute story that shows different mythological creatures, from fae, to fairys, to leprechauns and more. This isn't a romantasy type book, but about a young woman finding her strength.
I liked the plot and felt there was a lot of potential for younger ages to enjoy. Some of the characters dialogue felt like it dragged and felt out of place, and then the action would happen very quickly. More of a "tell" than a "show" type writing. Her trusty wolf companion Faust was my favorite character!
Ultimately, I think this is a good fantasy book for ages 12-18 and though wasn't my favorite, I can definitely see younger ages absolutely loving it.
A charming tale of growth, adventure, unique creatures. Reading about Mori finding herself and overcoming expectations makes for an inspiring yet cozy little read. I love the humor woven throughout the story. It is a tad bit on the gory side but I enjoyed reading this book with my 12 year old daughter.
Well written book, the Arthur's descriptions of characters and scenery, etc really make the book come alive for a reader. The story is well written, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
