Long Awaited.
I almost didn’t read it if I’m being honest. I read a few chapters in and put it down out of frustration and finding out that this would not be a conclusion to the story especially with how long we waited for the fourth book. I sincerely hope we do not have to wait 2 more years to conclude this story.
I read this slowly over a few days VS consuming it all immediately like I normally do. I still gave this 5 stars because I love the story and world but this was filled with just too much of everything else other than our story. I felt trapped in that tower with Hazel for way too many chapters or even the chapter that she’s being walked back to the palace, it was so long. I found myself skimming a lot of the chapters. I will say though. It’s not as predictable as I thought it might be. I like that.
One thing I did come to appreciate with this book is the chapters from Hades POV. In the first books I was kind of annoyed because I thought he was being introduced as a potential love interest and I was not happy. I never did vibe with the other love interest plots I felt like it cheapened what Death and Hazel had. So seeing Hades POV in this book solidify him as the villain made me happy.
All in all, I enjoyed the book and will wait patiently for the 5th and when this series is done I will recommend to all my fellow readers.

I never expected to be giving this book one star because I absolutely loved where this series began.
Kiss of Death completely hooked me. I loved Hazel and Death, the atmosphere, the mystery, and the emotional tension. It felt like the start of something special, and that’s honestly why I stuck with the series for so long.
The second book wasn’t nearly as strong, but I was still invested. It had more of a fan-fiction feel at times, there were noticeable grammar and spelling issues, and the ending felt rushed. Even so, I was excited to see where the story would go next. I kept thinking we were building toward Hazel returning to the mortal world. Her body was literally wasting away while we spent more and more time in the immortal realm, so I assumed all of that was leading to a meaningful payoff.
Unfortunately, that payoff never came.
By the third book, it felt like the story had completely lost its direction. Death was barely present, we spent most of the novel in Hades’ palace, and so many storylines from the first book seemed forgotten. What happened to Hazel’s stepmother poisoning her father? Her stepbrothers? The witch who guided her to Death? Hazel sold her soul to save her father, only for him to die anyway, and I kept waiting for the story to explore the emotional consequences of that. Instead, it felt like those threads were abandoned in favor of spending more time in the immortal world.
Then came Love and Death, which was originally presented as the conclusion to the series. Sadly, it was the weakest installment for me. I found myself skimming large sections because very little felt like it was moving the story forward. Even when Death finally became more involved again, it wasn’t enough to make the ending satisfying. The pacing dragged, the dialogue often felt more like fan fiction than a polished novel, and by the end I was left feeling disappointed instead of fulfilled.
The situation surrounding the series also made it harder to stay invested. There were long periods of silence, promises of future releases that never materialized, and what was supposed to be the final book ended on another cliffhanger. A fifth book, Song of Death, was announced with cover art and a planned release, but as of now it still hasn’t arrived. At this point, I’ve accepted that I probably won’t ever finish the series, and honestly, I’m okay with that.
I genuinely wish Alice Wilde the best, and I appreciate the imagination behind this world. Hazel and Death will always hold a special place in my heart because of how much I loved the first book. In fact, that’s the reason I’m keeping these books on my shelf. The covers are beautiful, and Kiss of Death remains a story I’ll happily revisit.
It’s just unfortunate that, for me, the series never delivered on the incredible promise of its beginning. What started as one of my favorite fantasy romances gradually lost focus, abandoned compelling storylines, and became less engaging with each installment.
I sincerely wanted to love this conclusion, but it left me feeling more disappointed than satisfied.

Spice: 🌶️
I have concerns!! I am actually really frustrated that the book opens with an apology that this will not actually be the last book! I specifically held off on this series in order for there to be no terrible cliffhanger leaving me with a book hangover, and yet, here we are!! This book was a little harder to read in the wake of Deaths, well, death, but I was grateful there was a resolution at the end. I really liked that the book opened with the Fates and tapestry of life to provide some context to the strange love triangle that was going on - it help sort out some feelings. Ultimately, I find the story to be relatively unique and interesting, will definitely wait for book 5 and the conclusion of this adventure!

I really don't know how to feel about this book.
First off, the author informs the reader during the first few pages that this book is indeed not the last book of the series, there will be a fifth book. However, this book is sooooooo slow! The whole story could have been rewritten to fill a couple of chapters. The book has too much weird inner monolouge that doesn't lead anywhere. There are also a few plotholes I struggle to look past and the FMC is both somewhat pathetic and smart, depending on what the plot needs.
I do like that the story is not as fragmented as the previous book, and Death is <3 <3

This book was much anticipated and did not disappoint! There were so many plot twists that Alice had me unsure what would happen until the answers were revealed. The death of Eros and likely of Cerebrus at the end were such heartbreaking losses. I loved both characters but I also found it so sweet and enduring how much Eors especially had changed since he met her and understood the beauty of Hazel and Death. I cannot wait for the 5th book and seeing them take down the rest of the underworld! Also so curious to see what her brother could be waiting to tell her.

I’m glad there will be a fifth book as this book gave everything a reader wants and more. I couldn’t put this book down and anxiously read hoping to Death to be saved and hoping our other favorites would be okay… won’t spoil anything but there will be heart break and unanswered questions that will likely be resolved in the next book. Wonderful book and I can’t wait for the next one.

I love this series! I have been reading since the beginning. I do wish there was more action and less inner monologue as well as spice. This is one of the slowest burning books I have read and I understand the timeline, the characters morals and the stories. But I still love this series and can’t wait to finish it!

Longer review to come. I just want to say this book was worth the wait. I love Hazel and Death so much. I could read 100 more books about them. Our babygirl Cerberus was perfection. Eros, my man my man my man, just tears for him. Fantastic book!

I love this series so much.
I was afraid going into this book considering how the 3rd end. Was so upset for Death.
Hazel continues to go through it.
Cerberus’ character development and his progression is good and I ended up loving his chapters

I knew as soon as I saw the warning that I should not read this until the 5th book came out. Face-palm. The quest to keep Death alive continues, but love conquers, or does it... Several have claimed to love Hazel, and given so much to prove their love.

I just love this series. I honestly had no idea how it was going to end, and I felt nervous the whole time! Although I hate to add another unfinished series to my list, I am secretly glad this story isn't over yet :)

No conclusion to the entire slow burn romance AT ALL. Utter disappoint of an ending to a favorite story. Honestly, none of the plot was tied up and the book ended abruptly.

Gave it a three but it probably should have been a 2.5. It’s the fourth in a series and it was very very slow. Finally something happens and then the book was over. I really enjoyed the first book but each booth afterwards has not stood up to the first. Not sure if I will read the next one when it comes out

For myself this was my least liked book of the series. I found that the story line just didnt keep me interested and I forced my self to finish. Just not my cup of tea. Loved the other books in the series though.

I am so glad I continued on!!!
Book 3 was a little slower for me. But book 4 brought me right back in! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline picks back up, with lots of twists and turns.
