Sometimes, when a book doesn’t quite resonate, the universe sends you the perfect one right after, like a literary law of balance. You don’t have to search for it; the right book finds you at the right moment. That’s exactly what happened with me this month.

After finishing a book I couldn’t fully connect with, I came across a stunning Tamil anthology that recently won the Sahitya Akademi award. The title alone was so captivating, I knew instantly this had to be my next read and what an extraordinary choice it turned out to be.

It’s hard to put into words just how masterfully this book has been written. Every story is filled with emotions like heartbreak, mystery, humour, longing, wit, and love; all delicately interwoven. On the Rocks, a story where a man is haunted by memories of a past love, was hauntingly beautiful. But the standout for me was Nadakka Katrukonda Nirutha Kurigal, a deeply moving portrayal of everyday life with Alzheimer’s, each page revealing a quiet, poignant secret.

There are so many more stories in this collection that deserve mention, each unique and powerful in its own right. But no matter how much I try, I can’t do justice to the book’s brilliance. The richness of the language adds a complexity that demands time and attention. Still, it’s more than worth the effort. If you're a Tamil reader, don’t think twice. This anthology is an absolute gem. Let it find you.

மெழுகில் கரைந்து,
கதவுச் சிறகில் சிக்குண்டு,
கூடாரக் கரிசனத்தில் வியந்து,
ஆன் தி ராஃக்ஸ்- இன் விடியலில்,
நடக்கக் கற்ற மண்ணின்
நிறுத்தற்குறிகளில் வழியறிந்து,
வெளிச்சச் சாயையில் இளைப்பாறி,
நிப்பாணக் காதையை அறிந்து,
அந்த சொல்லில் மட்டும்
மதுவின் வாசனையைக் கொண்டு,
