The Glory of God
This eye-opening devotional book consists of six sections with five chapters each—His glory (holiness), His power (protection), His creation (design), His uniqueness (incomparable), His greatness (rule), and His kindness (mercy).
I was most interested to notice how Ezekiel 1:22–28 struggles to find adequate words to describe the glory of God. It made me thankful for the words God gives us to tell us about himself and to tell others about him.
Protection, Compassion, and Kindness
I was especially moved by the section on God’s protection—that He is my stronghold (Psalm 27:1). He is shelter, safety, and security—a far better protection than my own ability to defend myself or talk myself out of trouble.
I was also deeply touched by the explanations of God’s compassion and kindness shown in Christ. I saw my sin, and how small I am compared to God, yet He moves toward me.
God Becomes Bigger
This book is rich with biblical texts and beautiful truths. Reading this book reminded me that there is always more to see of God. God became bigger to me after reading it. And it made me hungry to see more of him every day.
I received a media copy of Amazed and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep
Amazed is the first devotional by author Carolyn Lacey. This book includes 30 devotions focused on beholding Jesus. It's broken up into six sections, with each section focused on an aspect of God's character. Each devotion begins with a passage of Scripture and then contains additional verses for readers to examine.
I love that this devotional encourages readers to go to Scripture first before reading the devotional content. The content concludes with a Cultivate section, which encourages readers to go deeper with what they read in that day's devotional, and a Pray section, which includes prayer prompts also based on the day's reading.
There are twelve pages for journaling in the back of the book, giving readers extra space for interacting with its content. Carolyn's insights are deeply comforting and richly rooted in Scripture. Amazed lives up to its title as reading it left me more in awe of God. This has easily become one of my favorite devotionals due to its being saturated in Scripture, and I highly recommend it!
Amazed is an uplifting and nourishing book. The author handles God’s Word with care, skillfully applying Scripture throughout. The writing flows beautifully, the illustrations are well–chosen, and the greatness of God remains at the center. I gladly recommend this book.
Accessible and encouraging. I found my thoughts drawn again and again to the greatness and goodness of God by these devotions. Meditating on the character of God is truly awe-inspiring - in the best way possible!
Really excellent way to spend time gazing at the beauty of the Lord. The exegesis, the writing, the applications, and the review activities all blessed me.
This was an absolute wonderful devotion. I love the style of the author and how she made us dig in the Bible before she shared her thoughts and ideas. I love that. It was a good mix of scripture, encouragement, and challenges to apply. I read this with the women in our church to kick off the new year. It really did draw out some beautiful reminders of how AWEsome God is. I highly recommend this.
