“Do not think for one moment that you are replaceable, Cassie Greenberg,” he said. He sounded almost angry. “For you are anything but.”

❗This review is spoiler-free❗
This is as cute as it was made out to be. It understandably isn't perfect since it's a debut novel (you need to give the author time to grow), but it is delightfully funny, sweet, and romantic. The number of times I laughed and awed is countless. However, those little flaws scattered here and there irritated me a little at times. There are several cringe lines and banal romantic moments, some questionable decisions that made me roll my eyes so hard I gave myself a headache, and basic writing.
Nonetheless, I liked the characters. Cassie, while not a particularly stimulating character, or bright, is sweet and kind. It took a while for me to warm up to her but I gave in eventually. She is in her thirties and still trying to figure out life, which is a much-needed representation in novels, although it triggered my fear of my impending doom. (The thirties are coming, guys. 😨 Her decision-making skills are a trainwreck, and I strongly believe that she should have figured out Fredrick is a vampire in the first five minutes of meeting him.
Speaking of which, I liked Fredrick a little more than I did Cassie. Firstly, he has dimples and that is important to me. Secondly, while his decision-making skills aren't much better than Cassie's, they are born from a lack of experience in the modern era. He is charming, compassionate, and a giant marshmallow sex on legs.
As I already mentioned, the romance between Cassie and Freddie is a bit cliché, with a ton of cheesy lines throughout the book, but it is still sweet, spicy, and largely uneventful. I am all for complicated situations and intense conflicts, but sometimes I just want something simple and easily resolved. It relaxes me and makes me happy.
Lastly, my favorite character in the entire book is Reginald. He is the comedic highlight in an already hilarious story. He is a rascal, a vampiric trickster demon if you will. He is also determined to be as unhelpful as humanly, or inhumanly, possible, which is honestly a mood. Unless of course, the occasion is serious. In that case, he limits himself to bad jokes, light sarcasm, and judgemental eye rolls. Besides, it is insinuated in the epilogue that there might be a story coming with him as the lead and I hope that becomes reality as he isn't nearly as present in this book as he should rightfully be.
