Yes, Sugar

Rate this book
I’ve got exactly one chance left—and almost nothing to lose.

They took my wife. They took my child.

They may as well take my gun and shield.

But that would mean leaving Nocturne on the streets, and even I can’t pretend that doesn’t matter.

Psychotic.

Gifted.

Deadly.

Much like my new Miss Demeanor.

I’d rather work alone, but Miss D has all the right moves—on the streets and between the…well, you know.

I may not survive her “tactics”, but I’m on a one-way ticket to hell anyway.

And you can’t break a guy who’s already falling apart.

Yes, Sugar is a dark romantic tragedy in the Stitch Up universe, where hot AF comic book-style heroes face criminals, consequences, and an unhappily-ever-after.

Stevie Carter

Stevie Carter is an emerging Australian author of dark romance, sci-fi and urban fantasy.

Stevie never intended on being an author, and promised herself that the Stitch Up Series would be her only literary works. That promise was promptly broken - other stories within the same universe are trying to claw their way to the front of her mind.

"Crave" and the three books that follow were written in bulk, post-breakdown. Stevie doesn't shy away from distressing content and urges you to view the content warnings if you have any known triggers.

Stevie is an iced-coffee-addicted pessimist who can be found hoarding notes for future soul-crushing stories, displaying halloween decor year-round, working on her drawing skills and creating cute crafts.

Omg this was so good, I devoured it in one sitting. There are so many layers to this story - the characters and the plot are incredibly clever. It's 1000% a tragedy, no HEA here, and I'm really excited to see all the side characters and even potentially a 2nd gen!?!? This is such a good book to test out Stevie's writing and if you'd like her other books.

Yes, Sugar is a dark romantic fantasy. Tempyl, in Bedlam, is the place the Gifted go to socialise. Some humans go there too, but only if they have to.

Commissioner Diana Rico had just taken over from Commissioner Bowen. She vowed to make the streets of Bedlam safe for all residents, humans and Gifted alike.

Lincoln Lee was a drunk and a coward. His life was a mess. He had exactly one chance left—and almost nothing to lose. They took his wife. They took his child. They may as well take his gun and shield. But that would mean leaving Nocturne on the streets, and even he couldn't pretend that wouldn't matter. Psychotic. Gifted. Deadly. Lincoln had to take the shot! Why couldn't he do it?

His boss, Diana Rico, assigned him a new partner, Miss Demeanor! She was Gifted and hot as Hades. Titan, the huge purple giant, was her Ex. She was tiny in comparison to his massive frame. She carried a hammer and a grudge. Any toe rag she wanted to crush a skull on, was her target.

Detective Lincoln and Miss Demeanor were both on the case to remove Nocturne from the city. Would they survive their love/hate relationship? Would Miss Demeanor's 'Linky' (Detective Lincoln) use her to win the heart and body of his boss? Commissioner Diana Rico, whom he was infatuated with. Was he capable of raising his body to meet her needs?

I found the time-line a little confusing. The sex scenes were well-written and detailed, the relationships were weird, but not as high-wired as Titan. He was slipping into tantrums and rages, and sliding towards an early death. He'd been used as an experiment for years. He was a 'Gifted' creation.

Lincoln shot Nocturne. It was an ending with horrific consequences for Diana Rico. Now he knew who she really was, and that he had shot her husband. The child she was to bear was either Titan's or Nocturne's. The little girl would be a new breed of Gifted.

Words cannot describe my love for this book and to Stevie as an author. Anytime Stevie releases something new, I’m straight buying that regardless of my bank account.

The banter between the main characters, the brooding hatred, the lessons and the NSFW gumball scene 💕🔥

Linky hates gifted but feels a hatred and burning desire when he’s near Miss Demeanour. What better way to put that to use than using her as a doll.

Miss Demeanour full of raw emotions on the inside but a bubbling eccentric personality on the outside with a hidden supply of pink gumballs, she’s more than happy to help teach Linky how to please a woman.

I love that Miss Demeanour’s weapon of choice was a hammer and she loved caving skulls in. Nothing like a little brutality to her victims 🔥

Two words - Titan’s Cock🤭

The emotions that ran through me this book were intense from giggling and kicking my feet to lowkey cringing at a MC like I was watching him in person to tearing up to utter shock and disbelief. This tragedy standalone was exactly the book I needed to read.

The hidden foreshadowing had me stunned when I made all the connections at the end. The interconnection with the Stitch-Up series was phenomenal and so smooth.

I gotta say though my fave character is Mr Bubbles, hands down 🦄

If this hasn’t convinced you enough, paperback copies have exclusive author illustrations in comic style throughout. 😍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Compelling, gritty romance with real heart and edge — I’m completely hooked!

I absolutely loved Yes, Sugar by Stevie Carter. From the very first page, it grabbed me with dark energy, sharp tension and a sense that anything could (and would) happen. The world she builds — gritty, dangerous, and raw — pulled me in, and I couldn’t put it down.

My favourite character was Miss Demeanour — she’s fierce, flawed, and dangerously magnetic. Her chemistry and relationship with Linky was electric: unpredictable, passionate, and layered with emotion. Their dynamic brings real depth and complexity to the story — a perfect balance of romance and tension.

What struck me the most was how the author doesn’t shy away from darkness. Yes, there are gritty, sometimes brutal themes — secrets, pain, criminals, consequences — but there’s also vulnerability, hope, longing and real growth. Underneath the danger and chaos, there’s heart.

And that twist at the end? Absolutely stunning. I did not see it coming, and it changed everything in the best way possible. It leaves me desperate to know what comes next. I can’t wait to dive into the next book. Stevie Carter has officially won a new loyal reader — I’m all in. 💜📚

Yes, Sugar is a dark romantic tragedy set in the gritty, comic-book-inspired world of the Stitch Up universe. The story follows detective Lincoln Lee, a man who’s lost everything—his wife, his child, and his will to live. With nothing left to lose, he partners with Miss Demeanor, a psychotic, Gifted vigilante whose unconventional methods and fiery attitude make her both a formidable ally and a dangerous liability.

*Heads up*: Make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in. Lincoln is very angry at the Gifted and expresses strong dislike toward sex workers, so there’s some intense language and verbiage around that throughout the story.

If you want to have your heart lovingly stomped on then you definitely need to read Yes, Sugar.

A wonderful standalone (with some guest appearances if you've had a peek at Stevie's stitch up series) that will take you on a wild ride of emotions right up until the end. As a dark romantic tragedy you will definitely want to check your trigger warning but such an amazing read! My favourite book of 2025 so far!

Once again Stevie Carter has delivered a story that sent me through a whirlwind of emotions and kept me hooked from the very first page to the very last, with complex characters that are easy to love while their past traumas send a physical ache to your heart. The plot took twists I didn't see coming and ones that would be impossible to anticipate but nothing hit quite as hard as that epilogue. Stevie took no prisoners there and I absolutely love her for it.

A fun and cheeky tale, involving; crime, superheroes/vigilantes, villains, alcohol addiction, and a cult to name handful of themes included in this book.
Can Lincoln turn away from the bottle and get his life and career back in order?
Will his new informant/partner help him or will she get on his last nerve each time she chews her sweet bubblegum.
Nice well written book that is connected to the Stitch Up Universe.

Stevie never dissapoints and Yes Sugar delivered. The writing is gripping and hard to put down. I definitely have a girl crush on Miss Demeanor. Poor Lincoln and Diana, these two broken people who just want something good. I was not prepared for the ending but I love how it all happened.

I absolutely adore the story of Lincoln and Miss Demeanour ❤️

Omg, being back in the same world of the Stitch up series but having more smut was a-mazing!

The tension between the two characters had me needing a drink, multiple times!

Titan 💜 my LARGE teddy bear, I love you but you would kill me 😂 with your third leg!

If you loved Stevie's other books but wanted more smut to satisfy your darkest thought then this is 100% for you!

And when you get up to the gumballs, message me 😉 😉

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dark, addictive, and absolutely unforgettable.

This book grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go. It’s brutal, raw, and heartbreaking. A perfect mix of dark romance and tragic heroism that kept me awake long after I finished.

I couldn’t put it down. The pacing is relentless, the characters magnetic, and the emotional tension almost unbearable in the best way possible. I loved how it ties into the Crave universe, seeing familiar characters in a different lens, made it even more satisfying.

This book is insanely brutal. I was in shock for a week after finishing it. Stevie doesn’t pull any punches, the violence, the heartbreak, the chemistry, it all hits hard. But that’s exactly what makes Yes, Sugar so unforgettable.

If you like your stories with flawed heroes, dangerous chemistry, and a punch-you-in-the-gut kind of ending, this one’s for you.
I can’t wait to read more from the Stitch Up universe.
