Day care for shifters series was my intro to Elva birch and it holds a very dear place in my heart. I loved seeing more of Gil and his dad getting a story, and there’s a lot of exciting things happening even as some pieces have been resolved. I’m so excited to see what’s next with Victoria in particular cuz huh?!? So interesting and also a great fun read when the world is so heavy.

I got lucky and received an ARC copy through the Facebook Group!

This was a fun read! Clarice is Veronica Chase's Girl Friday .. wanting to be a real estate agent herself ... finds herself smack dab in the middle of DRAMA. It starts with Bruno's son naked in her back seat. She's trying to rationalize what happened ... and HOW it happened, when Bruno decides he needs to look at houses, and Clarice is just the one to help.

As a side note ... Gil would SO fit in at the Shifter Summer Camp series another Zoe Chant author writes. I adore this kid!

There's a lot of threads that get tied up in this one, and a tantalizing tidbit in the epilogue that sets up for future books. Elva also hints future books in and spun off of Day Care series to come!

A single dad with armor, a woman who sees through it.

Clarice lives a careful, ordinary life until a small, loud boy appears in the back seat of her car and nothing makes sense anymore. The child, Gil, belongs to Bruno, a guarded single dad whose protective instincts run deeper than she expects. One impossible moment pulls her into a hidden world of shifters, quiet alliances, and danger that never gives a warning before it strikes.

Armadillo shifter Bruno builds his life around control. He protects his son, protects his community, and keeps his own heart locked behind armor that’s never failed him. Clarice unsettles that balance. She asks questions. She looks too closely. She feels like safety and temptation at the same time. As outside pressure builds around Tiny Paws, attraction sharpens into something that demands trust under fire.

When threats close in, they can’t stay on opposite sides of fear. What begins as cautious chemistry turns into deliberate devotion, built through shared risk, steady heat, and the choice to stand together when instinct alone isn’t enough.

Clarice starts unsure and eager to please, but crisis and intimacy shape her into someone who chooses love on purpose and refuses to look away from hard truths. Bruno begins guarded and self isolated, convinced control is the only way to keep everyone safe, yet he grows into a partner willing to risk vulnerability and open his world. Their relationship shifts from playful tension to tested loyalty, where intimacy becomes an extension of trust and they build something steady in the middle of chaos.

A hot, single dad, small town shifter romance about a protective hero and the woman who challenges his secrecy inside a hidden community fighting exploitation and fear. It’s about trust versus silence, isolation versus connection, and learning that love is something you choose every day.

The Elevator Pitch: When a small boy mysteriously appears in her back seat, an ordinary woman is pulled into the hidden world of a fiercely protective single dad who can shift into an armadillo and would burn everything down to keep his child safe. As secrets surface and outside forces close in, attraction turns dangerous, forcing them to decide whether instinct is enough or if love requires a braver kind of choice. In a town built on silence, two guarded hearts must risk exposure to build something stronger than fear.

Bruno and Clarice . . .

Clarice was picking up donations from the various businesses in town for the December clothing and toy drive to provide for those who needed them. Her last stop was Tiny Paws. They left a huge box on the sidewalk for her, but apparently some clothing and boots were next to the box that was already full, so she stuffed it in. A little ball was tangled in the shirt, but she didn't dig it out since it was so cold and she needed to get to the donation center. She found the center had closed early, so she would have to take the donations home and deliver them tomorrow so she could get a receipt for Veronica. As she looked in her rear view mirror to back up, she was startled to see a young 5-year-old boy named Gil with no clothes on in her back seat! He told her she had taken his clothes and he could not get them out of the tightly packed box.

Once Gil was again clothed, Clarice drove back to Tiny Paws daycare and found a man standing in the middle of the road calling out Gil's name. Bruno's son, an armadillo shifter, was missing; he had searched everywhere to find him and was getting very worried. When the pretty woman stepped out of the vehicle to explain, Alan from the daycare introduced her as Veronica Chase's assistant who was picking up clothing for the fund drive. Everyone was relieved to see Gil was safe. But the problems are not over yet as something bad is going on. Will Clarice get pulled into the danger? Will Bruno be there to protect her, because it becomes clear that the two of them are discovering feelings for each other? Their story is absolutely wonderful, so don't miss this one! Gil will keep you laughing throughout the story. What a wonderful kid!

Sweet and exciting shifter or paranormal romance!

Clarice is driving around to puck up donations for her boss Veronica Chase. When she gets to Tiny Paws she finds a box of donations with some clothes and a leather ball on top. Little does she know the ball is Gil an armadillo shifter kid. This kid jyst shows up! So she drives him back to Tiny Paws and meets his father Bruno. Bruno is interested in her and his armadillo is surprisingly unworried about her connection to Veronica. But nothing is as it appears and both Clarify and Bruno have a lot to straighten out before anything solid can happen.

The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character centered storyline that has some steamy scenes with not a lot of detail. There is also some action. The characters are vivid and endearing. This is the finale for the Day Care for Shifters series, but I have totally enjoyed my stay visiting there! Read this series in order by reading book 1, then the First Comes Love set of books and then the rest of the series in order. You will understand things most chimera better that way. Enjoy this sweet and exciting paranormal romance!

This paranormal shifter romance has a very sweet and unique premise: an armadillo shifter and his little boy meet a kind-hearted woman under the most unusual circumstances—when the little boy literally rolls himself into a ball and ends up in her car with donations! The father and heroine’s mutual attraction is believable and heartwarming, and the story has a lot of charm.
Unfortunately, there are some glaring inconsistencies that pull you out of the story. For example, after she drops off the little boy with his father, she immediately seems to “forget” he has a child just a few minutes later, even as she discusses looking for a house near a good elementary school. These continuity issues make it harder to stay fully immersed in an otherwise enjoyable tale.
Despite that, the romance itself is cute and the characters are endearing. If the inconsistencies were tightened up, this could be a really delightful read. As it stands, it’s still worth reading for fans of paranormal shifter romances, but be prepared for a few jarring moments.

Loud, lovable Gil and his dad, Bruno, both armadillos, are the focus of this story. Clarice works for the treacherous Veronica Chase. Bruno's instincts say he can trust Clarice. As their romance heats up, more is revealed about why Veronica targeted Tiny Paws daycare. Thing come to a head when Clarice is mistaken for Veronica. Bruno goes to save his mate and they warn the daycare of the threat. Together they must survive a weekend in a safehouse with all the Tiny Paws kids with limited supplies and bad guys intent on taking the kids. With ingenuity and assistance from the young shifters, they hold them off until the good guys arrive. Clarice finds a ready made family and a newfound friends. Bruno trusts his instincts and gets a mate and friends he didn't know he already had. And Gil? Well he's his loud, lovable self with another person who loves him just as he is.

Now what is Veronica's deal? We'll have to wait and find out.

4.75 stars. This story is dual POV, well written, and a mostly sweet, single dad, contemporary fantasy romance between Bruno, the male armadillo shifter psychiatrist lead, and Clarice, the female human realtor/receptionist lead who works for the realtor who has been causing trouble for Bruno’s son’s daycare. I empathised with Clarice’s anxiety and appreciated her capacity to empathise with Bruno and to help him process his own drama. I enjoyed Clarice’s gentleness and her genuine enjoyment of Bruno’s son, Gil. I enjoyed Bruno’s shock at his armadillo’s interest in Clarice, and his uncertainty over pursuing her. I enjoyed the building relationship, which included Gil. I enjoyed the non-romance plot, which wraps up a series arc, and I’m curious to see where the author goes from here.

Excellent finale to the main series!

In keeping with the previous books, this has a lovely blend of feelings, frustrations, and laugh-out-loud moments.

You can't help but feel sorry for Clarice & Bruno for being caught in the middle of a serious situation.

As you might imagine when it involves a small armadillo [shifter], it is just so sweet in places! (And you can tell that the author has had "encounters" with a child that age: some of the "Oops" moments ring so true...)

"Getting Gil into bed was like trying to put a tornado in a butterfly net."

(I was fortunate to receive an ARC however the above is, as ever, my own opinion.)

Book 7 of the A Day Care for Shifters series. While it can be read as a standalone for maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.

'Return to Nickel City and the shifter day care of Tiny Paws in this thrilling, hilarious, and upbeat adventure!'

The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and likeable and quirky and perfect together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress and fascinate. Another great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

The series is excellent!!! The books are stand alone reading, but the bigger picture is best seen when reading them in order. Previous couples and events are mentioned from the other books, but with enough explanations so you don't feel lost.

Enjoy a truly wonderful shifter novel with danger, secrets, a single dad, and a touch of heat.

If your gut is telling you to read this book, you may have the same kind of instinct that armadillo Bruno has. And you should listen to your gut.

This book is a real people pleaser, just like our main gal Clarice. It has adorable children, fun and funny animals, a sweet romance, a redeemable villain, action, unexpected heroes, and of course, a happily ever after.

Delightful

These stories are utterly delightful. I love the kids and all their antics. The parents are really fun as well. The books have spice but it is tasteful as its not overly descriptive, just that they got it on.

Different, but fits seried

Having our area recently be invaded by armadillos, was very curious about this volume in the series. Well written, nice emphasis on family focus and challenges for those with differences. Elva Birch continues to provide a fun read.

I have been waiting for this book, and it was everything I hoped for and then some. I mean, Gil is all over this story so you know it's going to be FUN and LOUD. He's such a cutie! He doesn't quite over shadow his dad's love story, though. Bruno has figuratively rolled himself into an armored ball for several reasons. His whole life is work and Gil, and he is fine with that. His armadillo loves Clarice, and his instinct is pushing him toward her even though she is a human. Bruno, Clarice, and Gil are moving toward becoming an adorable family in a nice, slow manner until the bad guys show up. That throws everything into chaos and reveals who Bruno and Clarice really are in the toughest moments. Questions are answered by the end, and I loved the way things resolved. I tried to slow down and savor this, but I ended up racing through because I just had to KNOW. The story was fun, romantic, and exciting.
