Have you ever heard the saying, “Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned”? That may be true, but no one is as petty as a man rejected by a woman he saw as his inferior. Keziah Stone was raised believing that good, pious girls wait for marriage to give themselves to a man, and when she denies Stephen Drake, she sets in motion the unfortunate chain of events that will lead her and her best friend Dorcass Blackwell to the gallows. The witch craze hit Hallowmoore later than other parts of the country, and with no real evidence, Keziah and Dorcass were condemned to death, along with four other women. But when the lever is pulled and the crowd retreats, leaving the group alone and confused, Keziah is presented with a choice: die or become the monsters they were accused of being She looks at Dorcass, sweet and supportive, robbed of her hopes and dreams because of Keziah’s choice, and the decision is simple. Live. Over three hundred years later, the remaining women have figured out a way to survive. Initially, it wasn’t ideal. They were, after all, good women. But Keziah is a fighter. She fought to keep her purity, fought for another chance, and continues to fight to survive. As America expanded, so did the number of monsters, real monsters, that roamed the streets. The girls have a taste for human flesh and a crippling desire to hang on to their humanity, even if they’re not technically human anymore. So, they eat the wicked. The days are long, but the years are short, and now they’re back in Hallowmoore. When Christian Ardent is released from jail on a technicality, it would appear that they have their next meal. But why is Keziah so drawn to him? Why is she struggling to do what she’s done, without a second thought, for hundreds of years? And why, for the love of all that’s unholy, do her meals keep showing up dead?

I’m not going to write a full review of this, because there may be changes by the time it’s published, but I absolutely love this one!
It was engaging, unique, and truly kept me on my toes. Starting the book, I had no idea where it would go. I wasn’t sure the end game, when usually I do. It was heartbreaking, but also hopeful (if that’s possible). I had a lot of emotions. It instantly hooked me, kept me engaged, made me laugh, cry, be happy, etc. I rarely cry during books, there are times I feel deeply sad and maybe tear up a little, but with Coven I actually sobbed. Like I had to leave my cube because I was reading during a break, and didn’t want to alert my coworkers. I truly loved Coven so much, and cannot wait to see it out in the world.
P.s. thank you Meg for trusting me to read Coven, you know how much I love it, and I cannot wait for the release!
