Snared by the Shadow King: A steamy enemies to lovers fantasy romance

His shadows call to her light—and neither of them can resist.

Elena, Phoenix shifter and High Priestess of Solaris, has spent decades keeping the darkness at bay with the Sun God's power. But now, shadows creep closer, people are vanishing, and whispers of a dark cult worshipping the Shadow King grow louder. To protect her people, Elena must confront the Shadow King himself—even if it means sacrificing her life.

Dario was once a proud mage—until his arrogance led to his downfall. His punishment? A curse that binds him to the darkness, turning him into the feared Shadow King. For years, he’s hidden in the shadows, evading the Sun Paladins hunting him.

But when the fiery High Priestess herself comes for him, everything changes. Dario is ready for a fight, not the fierce, undeniable attraction that blazes between them.

And though light calls to shadow, Elena is determined to end the Shadow King’s dark reign, while Dario vows to prove he’s not the villain his priestess believes him to be.

But with the dark cult threatening to tear Solaris apart, two opposites must unite to defeat the true enemy.

As desire tangles with duty, light and shadow may collide in passion—or in ruin.

DNF.
There was a slight connection between the MCs but the chemistry didn't leave me with any feelings that I wished to explore. The plot isn't anything new, although it can still be enjoyable, however I wasn't a huge fan of the heroine.

It's not the story's problem, it's me.

Personally, I've never been a fan of heroines who are mages, witches or priestesses because the role often means their characters could use a rude awakening - arrogant, powerful and stubborn to ever change their ways. Elena wasn't bad or evil, more like severely prejudiced against the Shadow King, and like most humans, would easily accept the rumors and words spread by others WITHOUT affirming the truth by themselves. For someone who has lived a LONG, immortal life, she wasn't WISE.

I disliked that part of her immensely, how she judged DARIO even when he didn't deserve it. Likewise, he might have done the same, although Elena's offense was MORE OFF-PUTTING. From that point on and 10 chapters in, I knew this story wasn't for me.

Even if this was a slow-burn, I wasn't going gaga over the pairing.

Thank you for the ARC. This book is light in the sense that it doesn't drag you in emotionally, but it is an expected read. I read through it to see how it will end. I wanted to see the phoenix thing. It's not steamy in the sense that it has spice (apart for one or two short scenes), but they do go on an adventure together and you are told there is chemistry between them. Do you feel it? Not really. Light and dark work together to solve a mystery. Their story ends, but there will be another book. Maybe they will show up again. The main characters are interesting, but there is no great depth; yet, you probably won't mind it. The story is simple, but you won't mind that either. It's a book to read after an emotionally devastating one. The HEA is there, but there will be book 3...So, do I recommend it? Yes, it's a super easy read. Not every book needs to be with a complicated plot and heart wrenching. So, within this category of easy-going books it is fine. I would go with 3.5 but let it be 4. I've been gracious with stars lately, so this book is better than some other books I gave 4 stars to. My message to the author is that you are not pulling us in emotionally. Work on that. Goof luck to the author.

An enemies to lovers, light vs dark read. The Sun God's High Priestess and the Shadow King must team up to discover what is happening to the children of Solaris. The Shadow King to prove it isn't him and the High Priestess to protect her people. If you want to know what they find out you must read Snared by the Shadow King by Sirena Knighton. Thank you for my review copy.

I first read a shorter version of this as The Kiss of Darkness. I still feel like the enemies-to-lovers aspect was done fairly well, but it moves so quickly that the two characters don't really have that much on page time together before they've fallen for each other. The new epilogue was a great addition and I'm excited to see where this series goes next.
