CONJOINED ANGELS is a body horror novel about small-town dread, wounds which don’t heal, and a whirlwind romance with a tornadic trail of destruction.
Jamie Fugate is a physician taught by his ex-army father. Amon Jessop is a veterinary radiologist too soft-hearted for Jamie’s patience. To the behemoth which crash-lands in a wheat field between their towns during a storm, they’re the only science for miles.
The behemoth yields few answers. A communal tornado shelter barely contains its six wings, and an x-ray reveals that the tangle of its body contains not one human skeleton, but two. Wanting to see more of this strange romance than a picture on Amon’s fluoroscope, Jamie fetches his father’s bone saw.
But locked away from the world in this tornado-shelter-turned-operating-theatre are more secrets than the vivisection of an angel. There’s a reason Amon fled back to Oklahoma from the city he trained in. There’s a reason Jamie’s family never ask what he’s doing with his knives.
And when their thirst for knowledge turns into a thirst for each other, they’ll have a far more dangerous monster on their table.
Kyle Wakefield has the spirit of an 18th-century romanticist not in the Poet-Laureate-to-the-King way but in the coughing-blood-into-a-handkerchief way. He disappeared into the Scottish wilderness alone one winter and came back with two scars on his chest which he claims are from top surgery, but are secretly entry points for the grapefruit-sized alien octopus controlling him parasitically. (It went in on the left-hand side first, but there weren't any brains there, so it had to try again.)
Kyle is currently sensing the Bit Paradox of referring to the octopus in the third person.
Hello! I’m the author, and I’m here to give content warnings.
God willing, this lovely book will be coming your way in 2026. Right now, it's with my beta readers, who’ll hopefully tell me whether I forgot any content warnings when they tell me whether I forgot any professional writing. For now, though, you've just got me.
If you read just one content warning, make it this one: CONJOINED ANGELS is about self-mutilation. It contains detailed depiction and discussion of self-harm by cutting and the thought patterns which lead to it. This makes it potentially dangerous not only emotionally but physically for readers struggling with thoughts of self-harm. It’s a sexy, ridiculous horror novel, and cathartic weeping is fantastic too, but I don’t want to cause you pain you can’t recover from.
And if you’d like to read more than just one content warning, here are the rest.
