Have you ever tricked a man into bed with you?
Neither have I. Wouldn't dream of it-I'm a girl with class. Except when it comes to my ex-boyfriend, Noah.
Three years ago, I ruined any future with him, and I'm done trying to win him back. Better off. He's Grumpy Gorgeous and I'm Sunshine Plain Jane.
With nothing left to keep me in our small town, and my best friend's wedding to his brother looming, it's time to make amends-call a truce so we don't accidentally cause a scene during their big day.
The trick? Noah thinks my imaginary date to the wedding is my ticket to losing my V-card. And . . . I might have let him believe it.
A spark I thought was long gone ignites and suddenly he's determined to prove I'm not ready. By volunteering himself to demonstrate.
It's one dangerous game I agreed to, but it's all I ever wanted. I only hope that when the truth comes out, we won't be completely and unforgivably ruined.
💜 Small Town Romance 🌶 Grumpy x Sunshine 💜 Second Chance Romance 🌶 Spice Lessons 💜 Lawyer x Librarian 🌶 Boy Obsessed
The Ruined is the second book in the sweet, steamy and highly addictive Hideaway Springs series.

I love this book so much. I read it in a week. I definitely recommend this book. I also recommend reading the first book to understand the second book.
What an emotional rollercoaster! Charlie and Noah's chemistry is off the charts, i absolutely loved the grumpy broody Noah and the librarian/ lawyer vibes. These two characters could not be more different but I loved seeing their journey. This book will make you fall in love with reading, check it out now! I
this book took us back to hideaway springs but this time with Noah and Charlie. I LOVE this little bubble and world Roxanne has created. Noah and Charlie’s story was sad, beautiful, spicy and the banter between them at moments was amazing. I loved this book just as much as the first one. I cried at the end too.
I can’t wait for Tessa and Levi’s story, I feel like there’s gonna be a lot to unpack with that one. I really do highly recommend these books with Roxanne Tulley. Nice easy reads.
This was a nice lovers to enemies to lovers story.
Noah and Charlotte have been pushed apart from each other due to issues in the first relationship they were in together, breaking it off, and seemingly never speaking of it again even though they were both still hung up on each other. They meet again later and all the tension, both good and bad, is still there.
Charlie was a fun, clumsy/accident-prone, and sassy balance to Noah’s more serious but caring persona. Her scheme to get under Noah’s skin made me giggle.
Just a me thing I think but I couldn’t quite get a depth of emotion to connect me to the characters and their story as much as I wanted for my personal tastes. There was a little bit throughout but I think I just needed more build up, perhaps showing more of their emotional connection in the first relationship or something would have helped.
There were some lovey cute moments toward the end that I really enjoyed and had me smiling.
It was a good story overall and I enjoyed the read. I especially liked when they finally give in- it was hot!
Even though this didn’t fully click for me, I wouldn’t deter someone from reading this if it sounds like one they would like. The writing itself was good and it is an entertaining story overall.
Now this is what you call a romance book! “You’re not my ‘its always been you’. You’re my once in a lifetime. My forever. My in every universe, no matter what, it will still. Always. Be. You” *screams internally*
Charlie and Noah are for sure my fave characters from Hideaway Springs. A broody grumpy lawyer and a bubbly sunshine librarian. Obsessed. The chemistry and tension was insane and I loved it soo much!! It's Dual POV, second chance romance, kinda enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity and 'its always been you'
I’m still torn between 4,5⭐️ and 5⭐️ and the only reason why I wouldn’t it give 5 is because I didn’t like the part about Pepper her parents and some of the spice was a bit cringe. But finished it in one day so nothing to complain and would highly recommend it!!
Just some more quotes because I'm a sucker for quotes in a romance book: "you don't have to do this alone"
"Every inch of you is perfection. From your heart down to your toes. I could look at you all day. And I'm a man who bores easily"
"Every time this man kisses me, it sends waves of excitement through me. I feel it in my bones. In my stomach, my core, and down to my toes".
The Ruined is Roxanne Tully's newest release and the second book in her new series, Hideaway Springs, which is a small-town romance series that focuses on the Reeves brothers (and hopefully dad). The Ruined is a second chance romance that can be read as part of the series or as a standalone. I highly recommend reading it as part of the series.
💜 Charlie. Her giving away free books and her love of children and reading and her putting her life on hold for her family.
💜 Noah. And everything he does for Charlie, even when they aren’t together and the town sees her as a cheater.
💜 The Reeves men
💜 The continuation of the case Noah is looking into for Chase. I hope that it continues into the next books as well.
💜 Aunt Robin.
💜 Charlie's Web. The mobile booth and book store
💜 "my secret Clark Kent... Nerd by day and a dirty lover by night." 💜
Roxanne has done a wonderful job of developing all the characters in this series. From the first book, I was guessing who the couples in the following books would be.
I look forward to Levi and Tessa's book and hope that we will also get Aiden's book. I am already loving Tessa's relationship with Levi's son, Jackson, and want more of her "the town rogue" style.
You won't want to miss Noah's Prologue, which is found at the link at the end of the book, and Roxanne Tully also has colouring pages. 💜
Book 2 in the Hideaway springs series and it's so swoonworthy! This time we dive Into Charlie and Noah, and how he does everything behind the scenes to make her happy without her knowing. Charlie, is still struggling with the loss of her mother and the way he takes care of her is so lovely! I absolutely loved Noah! The way he switches from the dirty talking lawyer to being so loving to Charlie and giving her lessons in the bedroom is just 🥵 I can't wait for the next book 😍
4.25 I'm really enjoying the Hideaway Springs series. I knew from book one that I wanted to see more of Charlie and Noah, and they didn't disappoint. This one had less angst than the Runaway but was just as good, I loved the characters and how long Noah has secretly been taking care of Charlie despite their breakup years ago. I can't wait to learn more about Tessa and Levi
I didn’t not like this story. The writing wasn’t bad, but I found it difficult to connect with the characters. Their behavior was cringey at times, juvenile and maybe slightly toxic. A+ on the spice though. I was intrigued by the other characters. I might continue with the series.
How this book is so highly rated, I have no idea. It was all over the place - felt like there were sections missing, weird transitions between scenes, I couldn’t visualize what was happening because there wasn’t enough inner monologue descriptions. The whole plot line kept missing opportunities to enrich their story & at some points I kept asking myself - what does this even mean?!, only to never really find out.
Noah is definitely an acts of service guy, but almost in a controlling way (& he can’t communicate with her for crap). He thinks it’s selfless but it just made Charlie dependent on him. Also, in the first few chapters she somehow ends up tearing her feet up bc she walks around town in slippers all day to avoid him. She couldn’t buy shoes anywhere else? Again - just didn’t seem to make a ton of sense to my logical brain.
There’s also a huge part of the plot that is clearly continuing from the first book & I didn’t read it first, so I was LOST. I won’t be going back to read it. There is a third book & while I’m interested to see what happens to the characters, I’m not sure I’ll be satisfied with their story.

This is the second novel in the Hideaway Springs series, and while it can be read as a standalone, reading The Runaway (book 1) will introduce you to Noah and Charlie and give you insights on them prior to starting The Ruined.
The Ruined is Noah and Charlie's novel, and as much as I loved The Runaway, I love The Ruined.
Noah is the grumpy, sexy, dirty-talking lawyer. After watching what happens to his father after his mother's death (from illness), Noah swears off falling in love forever. Which is easier said than done, when he meets Charlie in their college library.
Charlie is pure sunshine and sass. She meets Noah officially in the library, but she noticed him long before she bumped into him.
Their initial meeting forges a friendship that eventually turns romantic and then it ends—not in a we are better off way, we mutually agree to this way, but in a you deserve better than me way; I am never going to fall in love with you way (even though I already love you way). After the breakup, Charlie is literally outcast from the town, or at least that is what it feels like, and the only reason she has stuck around is because her mom was sick.
Shortly after her mom passes, Charlie's life turns into a hot mess, and she is not the type to ask for help, especially not from Noah. Charlie only has to stick around for a few weeks while she plans her best friend's wedding; after that, she is leaving town. At least that is her plan. Little does she know that Noah has other plans for her.
Listen, I love a good quiet, dirty-talking grump, and Noah does not disappoint. Charlie is a hot mess, but she is unapologetic about it. She is who she is, and I love that about her. She is determined to make it- even if she doesn't have a plan and she feels like the whole town is out to get her. It does not deter her.
One of the things I loved most about this was watching Noah come to terms and finally get out of his own way. It was clear from The Runaway that he loved Charlie, and watching him come to terms with that in The Ruined is beautiful.
Character development was spot on. The emotions that Roxanne wanted us to feel for these characters were there every step of the way. My heart broke for Charlie and more often than not, I wanted to strangle Noah. The family bonds between the brothers and Aiden (the dad) were well written, and the friendship between Pepper (book 1) and Charlie continued to develop in this novel.
The banter had be on the floor laughing and the spice and dirty-talking had me needing a cold shower.
I cannot wait to see what Roxanne has in store for book 3!
Loved this book! It is a second chance romance in a smalltown where everyone knows Charlie, the FMC, at one point cheated on Noah, the MMC, because it happened in front of the town at his family's Inn. I was super concerned about the cheating trope because I'm wildly against this, but it actually didn’t upset me much in the story line. I think maybe because she was young and drinking and it was a kiss and Noah pretty much sees it, and also the town makes her feel like crap about it even three years later? To be honest I was more annoyed with him in those flashbacks LOL so major plot twist for me there. Charlie’s mom just recently passed away and that finally gives her the chance to get out of the town that has been so harsh with her. She's also just been pretty much kicked out of the apartment since they decided to double the rent on her and she’s currently working in the library, since that's the only place willing to hire her in the town. When they have extras of the childrens books she takes the boxes and gives it away to children and she also has huge hopes of a children's wing that she's working on that people seem to think shes crazy to think will actually happen. Oh and she's also the best friend of Pepper who is marrying Chase, the brother of her ex, Noah. They have both now been asked to be Maid of Honor/Best Man for the wedding. So they agree to a truce for the wedding and agree to work together. Noah has always loved Charlie, but she and the whole town (outside of his immediate family) believe that he hates her for cheating on him. He’s a lawyer and secretly tries to help her out, specially when he finds out that she was kicked out of her place and forced to be either homeless or stay at his family's Inn. He actually forces her to move in with him, which I was living for and he also finds out she has a list of things to do before her 25th birthday and some of that she might be doing with someone else if he doesn’t step in, so he quickly offers to “teach her” and have some of her firsts. He is so jealous and i was loving that and she's really out here trying to make him jealous because she misses him too but will she still be moving out of town? What happens when he finds out she tricked him about a fake date and will this wedding go off without a hitch? Check out this book to find out! I loved it and I can not wait for Levi and Tessa, omg I actually love her so much already!
❤️ Small-town ❤️ Lawyer / Librarian ❤️ Grumpy / Sunshine ❤️ Second Chance ❤️ Spice Lessons ❤️ Boy obsessed
Loved The Ruined so much. The second book in the Hideaway Springs series is the sweetest small town second chance romance and it's the perfect five stars summer read . Charlie and Noah's story was so sweet and swoony. Noah is the gorgeous grump with a heart of gold and so messed up feelings that he couldn't find his way out of his own mess . And Charlie is Miss Sunshine personified and so adorable but around Noah she turns out to be such adorkable klutz . Once upon a time they were together but Noah couldn't commit. Hence the big mistake Charlie is still paying for. Have to say that I love Charlie with all those purple boots and her love for all things bookish . Oh , and that tattoo. And she works in a library. Yea, my kind of person. Now they have to arrange Chase and Pepper's wedding and they call a truce. But everything around Charlie is crumbling down after her mother's passing and she's ready to leave after the wedding. And suddenly Noah is stepping up and helping her with all . And before leaving Charlie wants to be with Noah because he's her one and only. And she still believes that she's not his the one . And because of a misunderstanding that she didn't clear up he thinks that she has a date for the wedding. And that provokes his competitive streak and a little bit of jealousy. Now he's fully invested to show her that he cares and maybe is ready for commitment. That situation leads to a lot of funny and shmexy shenanigans because of Charlie's bucket list for her 25th birthday. And let me tell you they have an undeniable chemistry and dirty talking Noah will weaken your knees. At the end the mystery around Pepper's parents is revealed, there's a beautiful wedding and Noah confesses it all . That epilogue was so sweet and now I can't wait for Levi and Tessa's story because that rebel girl is perfect for the next grumpy Reeves brother.
Thanks to the author and Midnight Readers Book Promotion for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.
We return to Hideaway Springs, Colorado and the Reeves Family. This time for the story of Noah & Charlie.
This was an extremely emotional journey, one that I wasn't expecting, but worth every single second of it. I seriously could not put this one down. Your heart will break for these two as they find their way back to each other in this second chance romance.
Past mistakes & miscommunications, old hurts & misunderstandings, half truths and hidden feelings. Fiery hot chemistry and such utter sweetness. You'll absolutely fall in love with these two.
Noah Reeves is a grumpy, broody and fiercely protective alpha. Tough as nails. A hard shelled, gruff exterior but in reality he's a big giant Teddy Bear when it comes to one woman, Charlotte "Charlie" Whitley.
Charlie is a sweetheart through and through. A bit of a wallflower, she's also a tad bit feisty and a whole lot fierce, when pushed to her limits.
After the loss of her mother, Charlie's life begins to spiral. Calling a truce with Noah in order to give Pepper the wedding she deserves, they othen find themselves in close proximity and forced to face their past. But will they be able to forgive the past in order to achieve the future they both deserve?
When jealousy prompts Noah into action, will they be able to walk away from each other a second time? Will they both lay their hearts on the line and reveal their hidden truths before it's too late?
And the things this man does for her? SWOON... Seriously, heart melting sweetness.
The book is set around Pepper and Chase's wedding. As her best friend and his brother, Charlie and Noah are the maid of honor and the best man. So they have to work together very closely.
After reading book 1 in this series I wondered, why Noah and Charlie hate each other so much. I really couldn't understand it. Because nobody told anyone anything. Except that Charlie is a walking red flag in town. She is a cheater. I still couldn't understand it, because it wasn't a secret between her and her best friend Pepper, that she is a v!rg!n. So how could she have cheated on anyone? Except for a kiss. But this book explains everything. And I felt so sorry for Charlie. I couldn't understand why Noah reacted how he reacted all the time, 3 years ago. There were a few flashbacks and it always looked like Noah loved Charlie. He was so cute 😍 But then he left her... 🤬
The chemistry between Charlie and Noah was always so big. He cared a lot about her. So much we already knew from the end of book one. And when he finds out that Charlie has on her birthday bucket list and how she plans to check it, he offers his help. It's so crazy 🙈🤣 Oh, and how he cares for her when she is ill... God, this man 🫠 And honestly, the cover Noah is just so 🔥 He is so 100% my kind of man 😎
I can't wait to read book 3. I so need to read more about Jackson. Jackson is Levi's 9-year-old son. So he is Noah's nephew. And he is so innocent and asks funny questions 🙈 And I already had a feeling that it would be Levi and Tessa 😉
This was the perfect, PERFECT, second chance romance.
The reason Nash held back from Charlie didn't fully make sense BUT I was so moved by their relationship, how Nash took care of Charlie from a distance, and then from up close was just divine.
Nash had some unusual hang ups about love, he lost his mum and saw how this impacted his dad, so decided to never fall in love.
Then he met Charlotte, Charlie, Little Web, Crazy - the girl who completely disintegrated his walls, blowing them to oblivion. Nash wasn't sure of Charlie's feelings so they were friends first, for a year Charlie stood by his side while he slept around, becoming the ticket to Nash's bed (ew). Until Charlie realised she loved Nash, and she couldn't bear to be so close to him, but not close enough, so Charlie tried to pull back from their friendship and Nash pushed and pushed until Charlie gave in, telling Nash she was in love with him and Nash dropped his barriers and gave in.
They had a year together, but Nash never allowed them to get intimate - if that doesn't give a girl a hang up, what would?! Charlie made a mistake, she went to a bar, got tipsy and allowed someone else to lay their lips on her, for an incredibly short moment, until she pushed him away. Nash saw, and ended it.
Fast forward a few years and Charlie has just lost her mum - sobbing - Charlie's lost any positive reputation with the town and she's outcast and alone - except for Pepper *what a sweetie!*
I absolutely loved the story development from here, for both Charlie and Nash.
It was so heartwarming to see Charlie realise the Reeve family have her back - they always have.
I am loving this series. Roxanne has crafted a perfect small town romance where you are as invested in the other characters of the town as you are the leads. I cannot tell you how much I love Aiden (father to the brothers featured in the series). He is an all seeing protector of these characters. I love how he cares and has a safe place for people to rest and recover and get their heads on straight.
But side characters aside, this is Charlie and Noah's love story. This is their second chance at their big first love. I never really understood the insecurities that pulled them apart. I felt that these two lost a lot of time being apart when their chemistry should have kept them together. But fear of love and loss kept Noah from committing fully to Charlie, and then mistakes were made.
Now they are both older and brought back together by the wedding of Pepper (Charlie's friend) and Chase (Noah's brother) from book 1 in the series. Their proximity forces them to face their attraction and their unresolved heartbreak from years before. I won't give too much away but under the guise of preparing her for her wedding date, there are some seriously delicious spice lessons. Noah (straight laced town lawyer) has a seriously domineering and filthy mouth.
This is a perfect small town summer read. I loved the ambience of the town and I adored the simmering build up for book three. The next couple are going to be explosive.
This is my second book in the Hideaway Springs series. While it may not be as captivating as Chase and Pepper's story, it still offers a light and enjoyable read perfect for a summer evening. With less angst than the previous installment, 'Runaway,' I found myself drawn to the characters and particularly touched by Noah's unwavering care for Charlotte, even after their breakup years ago.
Returning to Hideaway Springs, Colorado and the Reeves family, this emotional story delves into the intricate relationship between Noah and Charlotte as they rediscover each other in this heartfelt second chance romance.
Noah Reeves is portrayed as a grumpy, brooding alpha male with a fiercely protective nature. However, beneath his tough exterior lies a sweet and caring side, revealing his devotion to Charlotte.
Charlotte Whitley, on the other hand, is a resilient and kind-hearted woman who battles her insecurities following her mother's passing. Despite her struggles, she remains steadfast and independent.
As Noah and Charlotte engage in playful banter, they agree to set aside their differences for the sake of Chase and Pepper's wedding. Yet, when Noah perceives Charlotte moving on, he takes action to reclaim her affections. Their journey is fraught with challenges, as they confront past mistakes, miscommunications, and lingering hurts.
Roxanne's writing shines in this promising series, evoking a range of emotions and capturing readers' hearts. I eagerly anticipate how Levi and Tessa's story will unfold in the next installment.
So let me see, the writing style is really well done! Its the reason I could finish the book, even though I disliked many things from it. Also the humour was quite nice and there were some moments where I laughed out loud.
Unfortunately I didn't like this book because of the main characters. And I felt the love was superficial. I don't want to sound rude , but I felt like Charlie didn't have much to offer for the relationship besides being pretty....she didn't seem that likeable towards Noah, so I don't get why this guy spend a lot of money on this girl. Like buying her a car, took me out because what the hell? At the end of the book he also bought something extremely huge and big , but I can't say because that would be a spoiler. It sounded so unrealistic to me why he would spend so much money for her, because she didn't sound that special to me...it felt like he just went for her because sexual attraction, so it gave me a little golddigger-relationship vibes lol hahah
Charlie also didn't face any consequences. Through the whole book, every problem she run into was solved immediately by other people...those people just fix all her problems by spending money for her so for me it was a little boring.
And Noah....he had some toxic moments like he sounded quite manipulative at some points...and quite controlling. It's not a guy I would like to date lol no matter how much money he spends on me
However, I did like some side stories coming from the side characters. I managed to finish the book because the writing style was catchy so 3 stars.
I love Roxanne's books so much, and this one was utterly amazing and just such a joy to read. The Ruined is the second book in an Interconnected standalone series called the Hideaway Springs Series, and trust me, this is a series you would want to read.
The Ruined is all about second chances after a pretty horrific relationship ending a few years back when the book is set between the two main characters and the tension of everything building up and dragging Charlie and Noah back together after a few years of being apart. I was instantly sold on these two characters from reading about them in the 1st book, which was equally amazing, in my opinion, and they just were so much better than I anticipated them to be.
I loved the plot for this book and also how many layers our main characters also have and seeing them be more natural around each other than they are around others was such a joy to see from this perspective. I loved Charlie and Noah's book so much and to be honest there were many times that I was absolutely swooning for Noah and the little things he would do in favour of Charlie just made my heart melt.
As I said before, this series is amazing, and this book The Ruined really sells me on this point. The book was so much better than I had expected, and the quality of writing was amazing, per usual from Roxanne's books. I can't wait to read the other books in this series and to see our couples again in this universe.
What a great second chance story with some trauma bonding and healing. Shows that opening yourself up and allowing others within your orbit, especially when it feels crushing, can be the best decision.
Charlie is such a fantastic FMC. Her resilience is inspiring. She just keeps doing what needs to be done in order to take care of her mother, even when everyone around her seems to be against her. She can not catch a break in this small town.
Noah is definitely the lawyer version of Clark Kent. This Reeves' brother is a grumpy butt with a heart of gold. The care that he shows those he cares about is so strong. I love how his true desire is to make Charlie's life easier, even when she doesn't know about it and/or doesn't want it.
I loved the banter between these two before the tension exploded. They were so volatile towards one another, and it was so good. I knew that when they took it behind closed doors, it would be fireworks. I liked the way that Charlie used Noah's jealousy to get what she ultimately wanted. I liked how Noah was super protective & ultimately supportive of Charlie. His desire to make her dreams come true, fulfill her basic needs, keep her safe, and make sure she isn't taken advantage of was written so well. I could feel the love behind each act.
I liked the idea of a birthday checklist, but it wasn't really explored too much. I would have liked to see more of that.
Absolutely a wonderful story. I can't wait to read #3.
I was completely immersed in the characters, their development, the plot, the side characters and just everything. I absolutely LOVED IT.
Noah and Charlie are the definition of second chance and the one that got away.
You meet these two characters in The Runaway, book 1 of the Hideaway Springs Series. There was always animosity, heartache and tension surrounding these two but all of that is addressed in this book.
Charlie has been really through it. She lost the love of her life due to a mistake, her reputation, ostracised by the town and then lost her mum. Charlie had me cheering her on, she deserves all the happiness and love. She’s sweet, stubborn and feisty.
Noah has his own issues. Starting with the loss of his mum, his girl and then his brother. He has become a bit of a recluse. Noah sucked me in and even though he was grumpy and a bit cold at times, I knew it could only come from a place of hurt.
These two have so much history, heartbreak and chemistry. I completely fell for these characters and their journey back to each other. They totally made me laugh, cry and my heart stuttering.
Roxanne absolutely delivered with this one. Although, I’m not surprised. She always does. I devoured this in less than 8 hours, I was completely hooked from beginning to end.
And oh, what an ending! It was absolutely beautiful and I totally weeped at that reunion.
Noah Words are not his strength when it comes to Charlie
Charlie A quirky young woman who had always only eyes for Noah
Funny and entertaining till the very last page
A refreshing and entertaining love story you can't put down. Noah and Charlie whose story we follow are two characters that have you laughing, sighing and sometimes a little crying too. Their journey is rocky and full of misunderstandings, wrong silence and a few mistakes. There are a lot of tangles unfolding by them and in doing so we get a wonderful and indeed a very emotional story about a second chance that is hard fought. Because once there was a time where Noah and Charlie were more than they are now. Noah is a complex character as it seems at first but the more we get to know him the more he is understandable. From his sight of things. Charlie has a heart of gold and a lot of bad luck lately. She was, is and will always be in love with Noah, no matter what. But for a fresh start she has to make a clean cut. But before that she has to help her best friend have a wonderful wedding and maybe get things off her new bucket list. But her ex isn't pleased when he hears from that list and so Charlie plays a little to live a little, and to get her biggest wish come true. Or two.
The Ruined is the second book of the Hideaway Springs series, based on Noah and Charlie. Noah is a hot shot lawyer in Hideaway Springs and Charlie works at her favourite spot in the small town, the library.
This book was a quick and easy light read, it was enjoyable and I found that I wanted to keep reading it. It had so many tropes in it, from lovers to enemies, back to enemies to lovers, small town romance, spice lessons, to guarded hearts and lying to get what you want. The relationship that Noah and Charlie have is so tangled and complicated, and the amount of people that dislike Charlie does not help.
Since his mother passed, Noah became more closed off and grumpy, he is finds it hard to talk to Charlie about the past and wants her, but doesn't want her/doesn't want anyone else to have her either, which messes with her a little. Charlie is open to her feelings about him however still had bite when it comes to him and loves to argue a lot. I found that she was a little relatable and I understood some of the things she has done.
I found I was annoyed at the characters when I started this book, thinking why can't you just talk to each other. But as I kept reading, and learning about them, I grew attached to them. I loved Chase and Pepper, and Noah's father in the book. I am definitely going to have to go back and read the Runaway that stars Chase and Pepper...and now I can't wait until The Rouge is released.
Did I spend a day half-ignoring my family so that I could binge this book in one go? Yes, yes I did. And it was THE BEST DAY. Zero regrets. Would do it again. Especially since this book is filled with delicious angst, fist-shaking miscommunication, and the steamy slow burn that is Noah.
A second-chance romance between Charlie and Noah, college sweethearts torn apart by misplaced emotional self-sacrifice. Small towns are one of my favorite settings - no chance of avoiding people always ratchets up the tension! Noah is the epitome of protective and steamy MMC and Charlie is that FMC who is strong and sweet and independent. I was rooting for their HEA from page 1.
Charlie and Noah’s journey is gripping and emotional, and the town of Hideaway Springs doesn’t disappoint either. I love the little moments that give depth to the small town - the library board’s resistance to change, the acknowledgement that mistakes often have witnesses who do not forget, and the love/hate relationship residents often have. We are desperate for Charlie to heal and be happy and we swoon as Noah tries to help from afar and keep his heart behind closed doors and we celebrate when he cannot hide how he feels. I might have squealed out loud a few times.
Grab this book and get delightfully ruined!
I received an advance review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.
The Ruined is the second installment in the Hideaway Springs series by Roxanne Tulley. Each book can be read as a standalone, but as always I recommend reading the series in order to get the most of the story. I really enjoyed the small town, grumpy sunshine romance feel of this story, the plot moves quickly but the characters are what keep the reader engaged.
We meet Noah in book one, and the story continues around Pepper and Chase’s wedding. Charlie and Noah don’t like either other…actually, let's be honest, they hate each other. Charlie has been branded a cheater, everyone knows about it and won’t let her live it down. This really confused me, she clearly didn’t sleep with anyone and nothing happened, except for a kiss. A kiss that ruined her life. Noah reacts like a nutcase in my opinion, but with this book, the storyline expands and things are made clear to Noah.
Noah was not my favorite person when I first started reading, don’t get me wrong, their chemistry was Chef kiss, but the beginning of their story really didn’t make me like him. As the plot progresses and Noah learns that he was a big dummy, the couple comes to terms with the mistakes of their past and move on to a brighter future together.
Overall a wholesome, spicy summer read that I enjoyed and would recommend to fellow readers.
Oh my heart strings. I knew that with the little info that we got in the first book that their story was going to be a little more emotional. These two have a second chance romance that will stick with me for a while.
“I want you to know that I’ve always wanted this with you.
These two were together until one mistake tears them apart but there is more to the story then Charlie ever knew. She took the sole blame of their break up and has the judgement of her town weighing on her shoulders.
“You’re my once in a lifetime. My forever. My in every universe, no matter what, it will still. Always. Be. You, Charlie.”
Now as the maid of honour she must team up with Noah, the best man, to help with the wedding festivities. I honestly wanted to give Noah the biggest hug. He struggles so much with his feelings but when he gets the full extent of Charlie’s future plans, her struggle as well as her bucket list, he can’t help but get himself involved.
What starts off as low key obsessed because full blown as he comes to terms with the fact that Charlie will always be the one that got away and what he does to rectify the situation, had me swooning. Their journey wasn’t easy but it was beautiful.
I’m absolutely loving this town, this characters and can’t wait for book 3.
