Uno di noi sta mentendo. One of Us is Lying: La serie completa

Rate this book
All'improvviso e senza apparente motivo, Simon crolla a terra davanti ai compagni e muore.

4.3⭐
(book 1 - 5)
(book 2 - 4)
(book 3 - 4)

this was such an amazing series! i don't think much can go wrong with a fast-paced high school murder mystery, or just anything written by karen m mcmanus!! i actually read this a while ago but forgot to write a review haha so i'm just going to write reviews for all of them here

the first book (one of us is lying) was AMAZING and was a really fun read to distract yourself/get something off your mind. i literally breezed through it but i was also really invested in the mystery (idk why i say this for all the mysteries i read lol). i loved the 4 povs and i'm so surprised none of them were boring and they all had exciting stories. i also loved all the little romances!

the second and third books of the series were also so good, but just weren't the most memorable. it also put me off how the second one was about a whole new group of people, not focusing on 'the Bayview four' like the previous group. but still, they were great reads.

I do read a lot of books but I barely review them due to time constraints. I have decided to review a trilogy I have recently completed titled One of Us is Lying (2017-2023).

You might recognize the title of the first book because it formed the basis of a streaming adaptation which only adapted the initial two novels. I haven’t watched the show as I felt not finishing the story would diminish my experience.

One of us is simply brilliant. It’s told through multiple character viewpoints and the story never stops moving forward on a breakneck pacing. It’s a complete page-turner, and many reviewers use this term for thrillers, but I mean it in every sense of the word.

The story is just awesome and this is a young-adult mystery reminiscent of the time I used to read Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine. Ironically, One of Us also reminded me of Pike’s novel series Chain Letter. I only managed to read the first part in what I guess were three novels, but I really enjoyed the first part all the same.

The final two parts are aptly titled One of Us is Next (2020) and One of Us is Back (2023). Kudos to the author Karen M. McManus for deciding to make it a trilogy when the 2017 original sold well and was well-received by critics and readers alike.

Even if the second part had plot elements which seemed forced in some areas, it was still a worthy successor, and part three was just the cherry on top.

As I usually read very less fiction compared to non-fiction, my average rating is 4 out of 5 stars for the former category. But I’m awarding this trilogy a perfect score, just because I could not put it down, and I’m definitely not lying.

So,
I read the 1st book ages ago and it was great! Very sinister and well written and genuinely mysterious like i had no clue what was going on. And, im not one to fan girl but nate macauley checks EVERY box.

I didn't like the second book as well it was that wattpadd voice again (maybe I have a thing against contemporary teenage American narrators?), but it got much better towards the end. That moment towards the end was GUT WRENCHINGGG. (IYKYK)

Now, third book was, in my opinion, the BEST. Oh my gosh I like physically and literally couldnt put it down. It was so like scary and im happy with the conclusion. Although, I must ask if its absolutely necessary for everyone in Bayview to be in a relationship by the end of the series?

TW: violence, implied y'know what (gets a bit worse as the series progresses)... I can't say much more without spoiling 😂

OK, THESE ARE THE BEST BOOKS EVER!

one of us is lying
this was the first thriller I’ve ever read. I don’t know how I found out about it but i did and I 10000% loved it. Nate is a sweetheart, Bronwyn is adorable, Addy is sweet and sour and Cooper is just amazing, I recommend this to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.

One of us is next/One of us is back
I definitely don’t like it as much as the first but the whole bayveiw “backstory” and what happened
After, it also gives us some more characters who are amazing and gives us more about bronwyn’s sister and her friends, or classmates more of.

This series is a good read, one I found that was able to get me back into reading better as it kept you on your toes. Throughout the books the author leaves you constantly guessing what might occur and is not easily predictable. I would say that I did find the third book less intriguing, easier to predict, and I was starting to lose interest. It is a good mystery and an appropriate book for teen readers as well.
Dates read is a wide gap but this is because I did not read the books one after another.

I LOVED this book. A friend recommended the series thinking I’d like it, I did. I’m not much of a reader but this series had me actually want to read! I struggled reading because all the books I found didn’t suit me, they were all too slow and boring, but this is fast-paced and there’s drama at every corner. So, if you’re looking for a book that won’t have you wait over 100 pages to get to something barely exciting, has drama and romance and mystery, choose this.

La serie completa
Mystery-Thriller Young Adult
