A high-tech empire. A brutal murder. A case that could tear Savannah apart.
There’s a shiny new object in town, and Savannah’s movers and shakers have swallowed it whole. A high-tech scheme built on AI smarts and crypto buzz is set to deliver a dazzling floating casino. Soon, travel writers will be calling the city America’s Monte Carlo.
It’s a vision that doesn’t leave much room for doubt—or bad headlines.
When the police chief’s daughter is brutally murdered, the machine moves fast. Detectives lock onto troubled ex-boyfriend Stevie Valentine, and the DA wraps a tight case around him. Questioning it means attacking the chief’s grief.
Defense attorney Hank Luger questions all of it. Taking Valentine’s case makes him the enemy.
As he digs into Natalie Weiland’s history—her secret online affair, hidden investments, and her shakedown of an older lover—Hank uncovers a pattern of weaponized digital romance and ruthless scams.
Is there a connection to the prized project Savannah’s gambling on?
Enmity turns to open threats against Hank, his family, and his staff. Hank can back off and let the city look the other way—or risk everything to expose what lies beneath the high-gloss promises.
Hank Luger only knows one way—to push hard for the truth, no matter what the cost.
The Midnight Witness delivers the sharp storytelling, moral complexity, and gripping suspense readers have come to expect from J.J. Miller—perfect for fans of John Grisham, Michael Connelly, and Robert Dugoni.
JJ Miller's "Force of Justice" is an Amazon bestseller (Pulp Thrillers). JJ aims to write the kind of thrillers he likes to read: ones that grab you by the collar from page one and never let go. He lives with his wife and three kids, and two cats.
This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Being familiar with Savannah and some of the history of Georgia Deep South local “politics”, made this fiction novel rival one of Sean Kipe’s podcasts about famous cases in GA. I definitely want to read more about Hank Luger.
I like Hank Luger. His focus is law and justice. He is retained to defend a young man accused of murdering his former girlfriend. The entire police department focuses only on one person, the accused. The story does go into the corruption evident in a bitcoin scam, use of AI in scamming investors, hacking dangers. Well edited and written.
I've read the first and second books and I find them terrific. Great writing and well thought out plots. Just very good reads that I hope will continue.
I really enjoyed this book. For a change no lesbian or gay cops no bad language just plain old good writing. The way the evidence went and the trial was compelling reading. I’m a fan so I’m getting the next in the series. My opinion.
