Charlotte Fitzroy has never fit in with high society. Parentless and penniless, she’s on the brink of an unprecedented seventh season without a proposal.
When unexpected heartbreak proves she’s further from true love than ever, a trick of dark magic lands her in the Otherworld. There, she’s offered the chance at a title she’d never dreamed possible: Queen of the Fae.
To claim it, she’ll have to perform three tasks. Summon the Wild Hunt by piecing together an ancient relic scattered across the kingdom. Charm her hunters, the three beautiful, dangerous Fae dukes who will fight to claim her and become king. And keep her hands off her bodyguard, Sir Lachlan Cathal—the quiet, strapping knight who’s hiding deliciously depraved secrets beneath his chivalrous exterior.
But not everyone in the Otherworld wants a mortal queen, and betrayal lurks around every gilded corner. As the hunt stalks toward a bloody, brutal end, Charlotte must make an impossible choice—win the crown or follow her heart?
Hunted by the Fae Duke is a dark romantasy standalone and part of the Immortal Hunters collection. This twisted faerie tale is perfect for readers who've always wondered what Bridgerton might look like in the magical world of The Cruel Prince and with kinkier spice.

Kris!!! I did not sign up for this emotional trauma. Or maybe I did. But holy hell I devoured that!!
Lachlan and Charlotte stole my entire heart. He is the ultimate book boyfriend. He’s so sweet and he pays attention. I love that despite his past, he blushes a lot and gets shy. Because who doesn’t want a tall tattooed pierced former pleasure dom knight who blushes. Charlotte is also phenomenal. I love the strong and determined she is. She gains a ton of confidence through the story and I love it! The world building was immersive and I felt as though I was experiencing through my eyes. The Otherworld feels so beautiful. The ending was a plot twist, but I was pleasantly surprised. I cried at the end, but the epilogue made up for it. I need more of this world immediately.
Miss Haines!!!!!! This book was everything I needed it to be and I am beyond grateful to have received an advanced copy!
I am beyond in love with Charlotte and Lachlan, as well as Vesper! I have so many bonus scene requests that I am going to be keeping you busy for quite some time.
Human meets fae meets magic meets a wild hunt. With pixies, kelpies and so much more.
I am in love with the world you have created here.
Well shit. This was a very pleasant surprise and I ate this book up. The character development of the FMC and the fact that the MMC was a breath of fresh air. 🥹 the silent support was beautiful. I also VERY MUCH liked the resolution of the story. VERY MUCH. It did not go into the direction I thought it would and I appreciate it. The found family was awesome, the female friendships as well. The villains were villaining but not overtaking the story.
I would like to thank the author for the ARC and also for the ending. Truly.
Thank you so much Kris K. Haines for allowing me the absolute honor of reading this as an ARC.
This is me crawling on the floor and groveling at your feet to read this book. Honestly "book" is such a poor word for what I just experienced reading. This is a legit six star banger masterpiece.
I am unwell. I am devastated in the best way. My soul is aching. I was broken and remade. I ate this book up in less than 24 hours because I could not put it down. I awoke at 4:30 AM and immediately reached for my Kindle to finish. It's just that good.
In just over 400 quick-to-read pages Haines has delivered not only fantastic characters that you immediately resonate with (or loathe) and immersive world building as we follow our FMC Charlotte through not one but three fae kingdoms, and that's excluding her human home. The pacing is absolutely perfect -- there's no filler here! We get an amazing blend of romance, well-written spice, adventure, and a devastatingly haunting story all in one.
Charlotte Fitzroy is easy one of my new favorite FMCs. Her humor was impeccable with great timing, and her character development was top tier. I found myself relating to her on multiple levels and I love that she wasn't ashamed of who she was - she just needed someone to see her. That brings us to Sir Lachlan Cathal: The man that you are. Handsome and protective. The layers he has were very well written, and I adore the tension and banter between him and our FMC. I was giggling and kicking my feet in the wee morning hours. Completely delicious.
✨My standout favorite character of this book is Vesper. This cute, sarcastic, witty little pixie completely stole my entire heart. I can't even say my favorite line from the book because it's a spoiler so it hurts my soul - but this little creature was everything.
This is worthy of a reread for sure. Add it to your TBR along with the other books in the Immortal Hunters collection. They are all top tier reads.
Tropes: ⚔️One Bathing Chamber ⚔️"Use Me" ⚔️ Fae Dukes and Knights ⚔️Emotional Ride ⚔️Quest to Win the Fae Crown ⚔️Magical Creatures ⚔️Political Drama ⚔️Spicy Forbidden Love ⚔️Feminine Power
This is one of the best books, not even mentioning it is a STANDALONE, that I have read in a while. I literally didn't want to put it down. It absolutely ticked every single box I love in a romantasy and then it's packed away in a 400 some odd pages! This book is my love language.
Charlotte is a on the shelf orphan soon to be spinster if her love George doesn't propose soon. On the eve of their engagement, he gives her the ultimate betrayal leading her into a night of self depreciation, anger and resentment at her cousin the "favorite" of the season, at George and everything else that has gone wrong. In a fit of resentment she tries on a silver ring that whisks her away to a distant fae land where she is now the prize in a quest by 3 dukes to crown one of them King. It sounds like a mess but Haines writes in such a way that the world is vibrant and lush completely drawing you in. The characters are well written and resonate with me as they are are an interesting balance of flaws and loyalty.
Charlotte who has never been sought after is now working to solve a puzzle quest and is "wanted" by everyone. Whether to be successful, used or looked at as an inferior woman it was frustrating how all the Dukes wanted her but never saw her. Sir Lacklan Cathal, her bodyguard, is the stuff book boyfriends can only dream of reaching. His burnt cinnamon roll self yearns and grovels for Charlotte. he s truly the only person who sees her. Their love is medium burn but once it ignites it is liquid hot lava. Lacklan just easily jumped to my top 3 book boyfriends.
This book just doesn't have a weakness, I loved everything about it. Definitely will be checking out what else the author has written as well as the rest of the series which seems to be a collaboration.

First, I’d like to thank Kris K. Haines for allowing me an eARC of her wonderful book! I feel honored and grateful that you allowed me to read and review this book for you!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!!!
After six failed seasons in Breton society, Charlotte is devastated when the man she hoped to marry chooses someone else. But just as she feels completely out of options, she is swept into the Otherworld, a realm ruled by the Fae, where her fate is suddenly rewritten.
Declared a potential queen, Charlotte must visit three powerful dukes, each competing for her hand, and win over their courts. As she navigates politics, danger, and unfamiliar customs, she finds herself falling in love. With everything on the line, Charlotte must decide what future she truly wants.
I had such a great time reading this book! I completely fell in love with Charlotte and Lachlan. Their connection just builds and builds, and the yearning between them honestly felt unmatched. Every interaction had that pull where you just want them to be together, in every possible way. I was so invested in Charlotte’s journey, especially watching her grow into herself while being thrown into such a high stakes situation. The plot itself was really well done and kept things moving at a great pace. It never felt slow, just a genuinely fantastic read from start to finish. Beware; I cried for the last 15% of this book… it will tear your heart out!
I also have to say how much I loved the supporting characters. Aowen and Sabre completely won me over. Their story added so much heart, and I honestly wish we got even more of them. And Vesper… so awesome. I will not be forgetting “Food… dismembered food” anytime soon. Overall, this book hit everything I wanted. Romance, tension, devastation, and characters I truly cared about. Definitely a five star read for me.

This book was such a fun time! I went in completely blind, so it was a really fun surprise when Charlotte magically ended up in the fae realm and there were multiple potential love interests involved. There was a small stretch in the middle where my attention drifted a bit, but overall this was super entertaining and kept me hooked.
Charlotte is an outcast socialite whose life becomes tied to an enchanted ring after she accidentally enters the Otherworld, a magical fae realm. To survive, she has to charm and manipulate three powerful dukes into giving her clues that will help her locate the three Bannrhorn fragments and initiate the Hunt. Once the Hunt begins, the three dukes compete for her hand and the crown. Things get much more complicated when she finds herself falling for her knightly bodyguard instead.
Before entering the fae realm, Charlotte was rejected by her lover, so she struggles a lot with feeling like she’s not enough. I really liked watching her confidence and self-worth slowly grow throughout the story.
Lachlan is bound to one of the dukes, and the only way he can gain his freedom is if his duke wins the Hunt. He convinces the duke to allow him to protect Charlotte, and the two end up working closely together to uncover the clues. Lachlan’s past added a lot to his character, and let’s just say… it also led to some very steamy scenes.
The tension between Charlotte and Lachlan was honestly painful in the best way. She’s desperately attracted to him even though she’s supposed to marry one of the dukes, and their forbidden relationship had me on the edge of my seat. The spicy banter, the hidden relationship, and him teaching her the art of seduction?? Everything.
There was so much packed into this book: murder attempts, hidden secrets, plot twists I genuinely didn’t see coming, side romances, great banter, lovable side characters, and a satisfying ending. I had a really great time reading this one!
From the moment I began seeing the art for Hunted By The Fae Duke, I just knew… this book was going to be HOT. Here’s the thing though, it kept getting hotter and hotter every time author Kris K. Haines shared something new. Knock out levels. It’s for this very reason I chose this specific meme for my review because like the art, the book just kept getting hotter the more I read. I was blushing, I was swooning, and then I was taking on some emotional damage LMAO. Holy forking shirtballs, friends, what a story.
Charlotte, our FMC, —oh my goodness, I loved her. She’s funny, witty, and loves deeply. She was always trying to be selfless and think of others over her own needs even if it’s not what she truly wanted. I love how Lachlan picked up on this and uh, let’s just say it came up at some very steamy times. She tried so hard to deny those feelings too lol.
Lachlan, our MMC, who knew a fae could speak in such ways and also still have the ability to blush??? You would never know without it being written as such and I am here for it!! He was a man down BAD. And when he said Charlotte was supposed to be his next chapter??? The EMOTIONS I was feeling. I can’t say much more on this because spoilers, but like… l just have to commend Kris K. Haines again even though I was already in her DM’s doing so lol.
Anyway, the chemistry between Lachlan and Charlotte is off the charts, they match each other’s energy SO well. I was obsessed with it even. I loved the supporting characters in the story too and would totally read a book about two of them in a little spin off if it ever came into existence 😆.
Thank you so much for the eARC!!! I had a blast reading Hunted By The Fae Duke and I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy!
I’d like to thank, very much, Kris K. Haines for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I was so thoroughly enraptured with this book I could not put it down and read it in two sittings! Kris K. Haines has written this with subtle humour throughout the chapters. I love her style of writing, it had me engrossed from the start to the end.
This story had me smiling, laughing, furious, frustrated and in spots near tears. Charlotte, our heroine, starts out as the underdog in world where if you are not a man …. Well you know where I’m going with this. She is passed over season after season, 7 as it includes the current one, for a husband due to her lack of standing in society and with no wealth. With no immediate family and a scandalous mother whose story followed Charlotte even after her mother’s passing. As it turns out this 7th season is the one where she thinks life is about to turn around. She finally thinks she is about to receive a ring that will change her circumstances in life. And she does get that ring but not in the way she was expecting.
With a broken heart and a ring on her finger she finds herself in the ‘Otherworld’. She is to find three artefacts, each piece hidden by a Duke from a different Territory. Each Duke must spend time with her and has the potential to be King and make her a Queen. The Dukes will give Charlotte a very cryptic clue as to where to find their piece of the artefact. But Charlotte won’t be able to choose which Duke she is to marry. She will be hunted and claimed.
While all this is going on Charlotte is drawn to her body guard the elite knight who must protect her during her trials. There is treachery around every corner. Attempts on her life. Not everyone wants a monarchy. Not everyone is who they seem.
I knew from the very first teaser of this book it was going to be a hit with me, but I wasn’t totally aware of just HOW MUCH of a personal love this would be.
🦋 He falls first 🦋 Forbidden love/romance 🦋 Strong female characters 🦋 Y E A R N I N G 🦋 “Fated” mates 🦋 Good girl praise 😭
This book had EVERYTHING for me. I saw it advertised as a “Bridgerton meets Cruel Prince” premise and this is exactly what drew me in.
Honestly, s**ew you George. No one likes you. Lachlan is permanently on my list of book boyfriends and tbh right now I think he’s sat at the top because by GOD that man can yearn 😭😍. My hand was clutched over my mouth, eyes wide almost as much as I was kicking my feet back and forth giggling over the pure yearning obsession this man/fae exhibits… I quite literally could not.
This book for me held its pace from the very beginning right up until the very end. I didn’t find that I struggled to connect to characters, that things weren’t fully fleshed out, nothing was rushed etc. The whole book had the same pacing so nothing felt rushed or dragged out. I would absolutely LOVE to get more on Sabre and Aowen, I absolutely adored their characters and could read a whole book on them themselves (alongside Sabres past, he seems like such an interesting character and I think I’m just as enamoured with him.
There is so much I could say about this book and its characters, but I am very weary of spoilers so I will just scream FIVE STARS and be done with that.
Thankyou so much to the Author, Kris, for an early ecopy of this book to read and review - I said I stayed up late the first night it was sent out to make sure I got it and could start reading because I was so excited 😂.

GAHHHHHH THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. INCREDIBLE. A MASTERPIECE IN BALANCING HORNY AND ROMANCE AND FAE BACKSTABBERY.
I will never get enough of this book. NEVER. It’s the kind of story that no matter how many times you’ve read it before, it’ll remain a page turner that captivates. I ADORE these timeless romances, and this one is no exception.
Charlotte is fierce, and curious, she’s creative and anxious and there completely gone for eachother from the beginning. I don’t even know where to begin with Lachlan. I mean who DOES WED ALL EAT HIM UP. He’s intense, devoted, self sacrificing and completely in love. There are so many facets to their romance, so many GASP moments, …. And I keep writing and deleting so I don’t spoil it. Let’s just say it’s fantastic. You’ll be so emotionally invested, so in love, you just need to read it immediately
Hunted by a Fae Duke by Kris Haines is the second ARC I’ve read in the Immortal Hunters series, and wow… these books are absolutely god tier. Between Demon’s Vow and this one, I’m convinced this series exists solely to destroy me with book hangovers and live rent free in my mind forever. ✨🖤 I absolutely loved the world building in this book. Humans live in one world while the fae reside in the Otherworld, and the contrast between the two felt so immersive and magical. Our FMC Charlotte is suddenly transported to the Otherworld to compete for the crown and prove herself worthy of becoming Queen by winning over the Fae Dukes. Charlotte was such a fantastic FMC. She’s sassy, outspoken, and never afraid to say exactly what’s on her mind, but she also struggles with self-doubt at times, which made her feel incredibly relatable. My favorite part of the entire story, though, was her friendship with Aowen. Their bond was EVERYTHING. 🥹 The found family/sisterhood vibes between them were so beautifully written, especially toward the end. And Lochlen… excuse me while I swoon forever. He may not be a shadow daddy, but he is THE fae daddy to end all fae daddies. 😮💨✨ I loved the balance between his cocky confidence and his softer side. He had me hooked from the beginning. This book was pure perfection from start to finish, and the last 100 pages had me absolutely feral. I could not put it down. Just like Demon’s Vow, I may or may not have devoured this book in less than two days. 😅 Now the real question is… when is the next Immortal Hunters book coming out?! 👀📚
This story had me hooked from the first few pages. I am a sucker for the fae, every single time. The story begins with following Charlotte, in her mundane human life, she is sweet and gentle with the people in her circle. Then her significant other is just an absolute POS to her, I won’t get into details, but he sucks, he chooses someone else, very publicly and Charlotte then gets thrown into a scenario she never thought possible while recovering from heartbreak. The characters in this book were written so well it was easy to love or hate them. Lachlan and Charlotte were effortlessly entertaining with their banter and easy going relationship. I wish I could know more about her grandmother and her back story as I feel like this would be a heroic and heartbreaking love story, but again none of this story would have been able to come to fruition if not for her sacrifices. When you read the book, you will understand more of this. I also want more Sabre! He needs more time on the page. Thank you so much for the early copy. I can’t wait to own a physical book. I cannot recommend this enough, great plot, story, spice, funny, and epic love (the kind you loose your memory for and even after years, when you think you’re nuts, a burden to others, then you finally reunite you know deep down that you have again found your person!) 5++stars!!!

Charlotte is not your typical refined lady; for the past seven years, she has been overlooked by numerous suitors. Just when she believes she might finally marry George, he disappoints her by revealing that he has chosen someone else to get engaged to in-front of her. Heartbroken, Charlotte embarks on a transformative journey.
While wandering, she stumbles upon a mysterious door that leads her to a breathtaking wooded area. There, she encounters a fae, who recognizes her as the chosen one needed to restore balance to the fae world. Alongside Lachlan, who is eager to assist her, Charlotte learns that she must court two dukes to acquire the treasures necessary for her trials. Success means she could become a queen, but failure could lead to a dire fate.
As Charlotte approaches the final courtier, she uncovers hidden secrets about her grandmother’s past and Lord Sabre. Throughout her journey, Charlotte has developed a deep connection with Lachlan, though it remains forbidden. The intricate twists surrounding the hunt to elevate one of the dukes to kingship were nothing short of captivating. The ending took me by surprise, leaving me both shocked and filled with tears of joy.
The tension between Charlotte and Lachlan is palpable, adding complexity to her quest and deepening the stakes of her journey.
Hunted by the Fae Duke has instant connection, allure and intrigue.
4.5 stars. 3.5 spice. 460 pages. 1st person. Single POV. Absolutely loved the evolution of the relationship with the MMCs - beautiful. They had an instant connection, but they really built something over a short amount of time, that was solid. The MMC Lachlan is *chef’s kiss* - EVERYTHING. I loved that I could feel the allure they had for one another without it being over powering. Take me home Lachlan, please! The action was interesting without it being dark. There was a good pace to the book, it’s well written, and it totally draws you in. I felt like the last half the book was even better than the first half. The world building is good, without being too much. The ending?!?! WHAT?! Cruel - but also sweet. Need an extended epilogue please.
Not a 5? The book felt a wee bit slow for me in the ‘action’ department, at least in the beginning; and i was initially worried the smut was going to overpower things, but it totally didn’t overall. And given the popularity of something on Bridgerton, and it showing up in this book, I got a little bit ‘eh about it. The title is only a bit misleading if we’re being technical.
I absolutely loved this standalone! Portal fantasy with Bridgerton vibes, a quest and forbidden love had me hooked the entire time! I loved Charlotte and her attitude and how she handles everything thrown her way. She is such an easy character to relate to! The second she meets Lachlan I was a goner! The tension between them oozes off the page and the edging had me highly anticipating the spicy reward 😉! My heart broke for them both at different points and the way the ending all came together had me smiling so big! It was perfect!! I also must mention Aowen because she was a fav side character and her building romance was adorable (I would not be opposed to a spin off with them, just saying)! The pixie, Vesper, had me constantly cracking up with her food comments (iykyk)! If you are looking for a standalone with the perfect combination of fantasy and romance, this one is a must!!
✨Forbidden romance ✨Quest ✨One horse ✨Wound care ✨“I have you” ✨Edging and spice
“I want to know the truth of you. Even the ugly bits.”
“Say the word, and I’m yours.”
“Disrespect my wife again and I will rip out your intestines, then use them to fashion you a new cravat.”
“I don’t need magic to find the other half of my soul.”
“I knew you were going to break my heart the moment you arrived in the Otherworld. I’d let you break it a thousand times more for the privilege of knowing you.”
This was such a fun fantasy romance. Charlotte was an entertaining FMC, she’s messy, hilarious, unapologetically herself and somehow still incredibly selfless at the same time. I loved that even though she starts off as an outcast socialite, she never changes who she is just to make other people comfortable.
The story follows Charlotte after she accidentally ends up in the Otherworld, where she has to travel through three different kingdoms searching for the Bannrhorn fragments while dealing with fae politics, danger, and three possible suitors.
Lochlan was exactly the kind of MMC I love. Protective without being overbearing, and one of the few people who genuinely sees Charlotte for who she is. He never makes her feel like she needs to tone herself down, which made their relationship even better to read. The tension and banter between them was so good and their chemistry felt natural from the beginning.
I also loved the found family aspect, especially the friendships Charlotte builds along the way. And Vesper the Pixie honestly stole every scene she was in for me.
Overall this was funny, romantic, adventurous, and really easy to get invested in. Definitely recommend if you love fae fantasy with great chemistry, character growth, and found family vibes.
Honestly the cover is what got me to be interested. I’m a sucker for a pretty cover. Then as I’m reading the more and more I am hooked. Yall Indie Authors are killing me lol. I really resinated with the main female character. Especially when she thought the man that she was with was going to purpose to her… I felt that hurt deep into my chest: Because he may want to fuck me, he may want to be the only man I allow into my bed, but he will never choose me. Not for real. I’ve always been that girl that never get choose. But for her to go from a sorry man…. To this man that this wanting her.. gives me hope. I also loved this quote as well…“For many of the gentlemen in this room, tonight is a beginning. The gentle emergence of love’s tender sprouts after a long, cold winter. May you nurture them into sturdy oaks by summer’s end.” Don’t know why I just really loved the way this was written. The character art in the beginning of the book gives me pictures of what the characters look like. It makes the story and my vivid imagination all that better. Because I can actually see the scenes come alive before me. I can’t wait to get my hands on physical copy! Thank you to the author for choosing me to read this before hand!

All Charlotte has ever wanted was to be chosen. Chosen for her. But instead, she’s constantly overlooked and betrayed while her cousin remains the favorite in everyone’s eyes.
Still reeling from that heartbreak, Charlotte stumbles across a mysterious ring hidden among her cousin’s gifts. Curiosity gets the best of her, and the moment she slips it on, she’s transported to the Otherworlds.
There, she meets Lachlan, a knight sworn to serve one of the royal dukes, and quickly learns the truth behind the ring. It has chosen her to become queen of the Otherworlds, and she must choose one of the three dukes to become king by her side.
But with every duke comes danger, forcing Lachlan to act as her bodyguard as she travels through their territories to gain their favor.
And the more time Charlotte and Lachlan spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore the feelings growing between them.
The problem? Falling for him is forbidden. And if Charlotte fails to choose a king before time runs out, the ring will fall from her finger… and she will die.
This story was emotional, frustrating in the best way, and completely addictive. It’ll tug at your heartstrings one moment and have you yelling the next—but honestly? That’s what made it so good.
Thank you to the author for the eARC and the opportunity to read this before release—I’m so grateful.
I genuinely don’t even know how to put this into words right now because I just finished Hunted by the Fae Duke and I am still crying.
This was an easy five stars for me. The banter was perfect, the tension kept building, and while there was spice, it never outweighed the story—it added to it. Everything felt intentional and earned.
What really made this book stand out was the character work. The FMC’s journey of not fitting into societal expectations and learning to embrace who she truly is was incredibly well done. And the MMC? Absolutely one of my favorites. He never tried to change her—he supported her, respected her choices, and loved her exactly as she was.
The emotional payoff at the end completely shattered me and then somehow put me back together again. It’s one of those endings that lingers.
I devoured this from beginning to end, and I’m not ready to let these characters go. If there’s ever more to their story, I will be there immediately.
Highly recommend if you love strong character arcs, emotional payoff, and a relationship built on choice and respect.
What have you done to me?! OMG, this book was EVERYTHING! I am so very grateful to have been given an Advanced Readers Copy I am now broken (in the best way) & not sure if I will recover any time soon!
I absolutely loved this book! Charlotte is the best MFC I have yet to find & I have 'met' a fair few. She is so very funny & I loved her view of the world. Lachlan is one of my favourite MMC's now too. If you haven't looked at his art on Socials, you are missing an absolute treat! Spice levels are high! The cast of supporting characters is just perfection, with each one being exactly who they should be, adding depth to the story. You will love & you will hate alongside Charlotte. However, a very special mention goes to Vesper.
The story itself flows beautifully, the setting is just right & I have a yearning to disappear into the woods to find my own way there. My emotions have been all over the place & it's definitely a rollercoaster of emotions. What an absolute treat of a book. The real downside is how much you will long to go back to this world. I would love to see another aventure here.
A delightfully, oh so steamy Romantasy, which had me completely addicted throughout.
Dear Charlotte has grand ideas of what her future will look like. But when she’s sorely disappointed, a turn of events finds her in the world of fae on a quest to become the Queen of faerie.
I loved Charlotte’s whit and outspoken character. My girl is not afraid to voice her opinions and go after what she wants.
I’m not quite sure where to begin with Lachlan, the feared knight, protector who has a not so mysterious past full of debauchery. Combine Lachlan with Charlotte and you have a completely explosive combination, full of so much chemistry it was off the charts! The spice was top tier, but equally combined with some tear jerking romance which kept me on the edge of my seat.
“I don’t need magic to find the other half of my soul.”
The plot was fast paced and full of action. With a few surprises mixed in there I really didn’t see coming. Feel like there could be a story or two to come in the future (she hopes!)
I received an ARC of this book from the author which I devoured!
Hunted by the Fae Duke, by Kris K. Haines, is the fourth book in the standalone Immortal Hunters collection. I absolutely loved this book, it is probably my favorite in the collection so far, and that is saying something, because they have all been amazing. Charlotte and Lachlan’s story is one for the history books. Their chemistry is amazing; I couldn’t put it down. Not only is this a great romance book with fantastic yearning and spice, but the plot is just as good. To me, that makes a book, when there is still a quiet a bit of spice that didn’t feel out of place and a plot that can stand on its own. There are also some great side characters in this book, my favorite is definitely Vesper the pixie, she has very little dialog, but when she has dialog, it always had me smiling. This is one of those standalone fantasy books where the story line was wrapped up, but I would love another book from this world. There is definitely one couple that I can think of that would make a great book, and then we can see some of the characters that we know and love again.
Thank you Kris K. Haines for this ARC! For a standalone romantasy, the pace was reasonable and left room for a delicious slow burn chemistry between the MCs. The world building was beautiful and intricate without getting too complex for a standalone. The plot twists in the book … wow!!
Charlotte Fitzroy is one of my favourite FMCs! I would bet that every girl out there can relate to her in some way by the end of this book. I loved her more and more as the story progressed.
Sir Lachlan Cathal had lots of layers and Kris weaved them in very well with the storyline. I also love the depth given to the side characters - especially Aowen and Sabre Cernunnos. I do wish there was more time to dive into these characters.
What I love about this book: ⚔️ Fae Dukes and Knights 🎀 Outcasted socialite FMC (Human) ❤️🩹 Emotional roller coaster 👑 Quest to win the crown ❤️🔥 Spicy, forbidden love 🧚🏼♀️🐺 Magical creatures ⚖️ Political drama 👩🏻🤝👩🏼 GIRL POWER!! Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I went into expecting addictive romantasy, dangerous fae politics, magical hunts, and a whole lot of spice…
and yes — the chemistry in this book is absolutely incredible.
But what surprised me most was the emotional depth underneath it all.
After a heartbreaking night in the human world, the FMC accidentally portals into the fae realm where she learns she could become queen — if she can impress and become engaged to not one, but three dukes, solve riddles, recover relics, survive the hunt, and ultimately be claimed so one of them can ascend to the throne.
The world feels magical, seductive, dangerous, and full of secrets… and luckily she has a knight by her side to help her navigate it — though he may be just as seductive and dangerous for her heart.
The chemistry is addictive, but what really got me was the loyalty, sacrifice, trust, friendship, and impossible choices underneath it all.
Oh my heart, Kris takes us on a swoony adventure in Hunted by the Fae Duke, a part of the Immortal Hunters series.
In this story we meet Charlotte, who after having her heartbroken, slips on a ring and right into the Otherworld. There is comes face to face with the handsome fae knight Lachlan Cathal and finds out that she must find 3 missing pieces of a horn and be hunted by the dukes to be claimed as the next Queen.
Though it isn’t quite that simple and the other dukes make it difficult, she has Lachlan by her side the whole time. The way that he cares for her, protects her and wanting to do anything for his queen is so swoonworthy. Then he goes and offers to teach her “things” and boy was I a puddle on the floor.
Kris doesn’t make it easy on us though and my heart was breaking for Lachlan and Charlotte. Their love for one another is undeniable and it shows right up until the end.
The writing hooked me right away with its witty, whimsical tone, but the deeper I got into the story, the more disconnected I felt. The plot and heavy court politics became overwhelming at times, and the pacing really started to drag because of how repetitive and wordy everything felt.
Lachlan — the former pleasure dom turned bodyguard — honestly carried this book for me. He was by far the most compelling part of the story. I almost DNF’d around the 60% mark but decided to push through, only for the ending to fall a little flat.
Charlotte started off so sharp, funny, and full of personality, which made it disappointing to see a lot of that spark fade by the end. Overall, it was an okay read with some strong elements, but I think the execution could’ve been much stronger.
So happy to have gotten an e-arc for this book!! I cannot put into words how much I loved this story. It got me out of a reading slump and was one of those books that you think about days after finishing it because it was that good. Everything about it was perfect… the writing style, the storyline, the characters all perfection. The spice was spicing but it wasn’t so much that it overpowered the story, and the mmc will 100% end up being your next book boyfriend. The last couple chapters (especially the epilogue) will leave you teary eyed so make sure to have some tissues near by. I could seriously write a forever long post about all the reasons why you should read this but don’t want to give away any spoilers so just do yourself a favor and read it because I promise it will not disappoint. All the stars for this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a book that I had to binge read! Sure there are plotlines that might be famiiar but Kris has woven them together is such a skillful way! Charlotte Fitzroy is searching for her meaning in the real world and surprisingly ends up in the Otherworld. Three very different dukes, one kind, one smarmy, and another gruff with a heart, are to hunt and claim her after she has found the items. Sounds easy, right? No, my friend! She is protected by a knight, Lachland Cathal and that's when complications occur and this book becomes very adult. Two other characters, Aowen, older sister of the kind duke, and Sabre, the gruff but thoughful duke, play a large role in Charlotte's quest. The smarmy villain does get what he deserves. Oh, the pixie, Vesper adds such a touch of charm! The emotion of the ending chapters provides what you hoped!
Okay wow. Am I this blessed to have read a second 5⭐️ read within a month? This standalone fantasy novel gave me everything that I loved from witty banter between the two main characters, trials and tribulations, and of course delicious spice (though I did get an ick from the toes scene).
The writing kept me hooked all the way through the book which is hard to do, and I did not expect the stuff with her grandma to come up. Also, can I say it was nice to see that George had a fulfilling ending with not being happy? I mean I kind of knew he wouldn’t be, but it was nice to read about anyway.
Lastly, can I just say that I love a pierced MMC? 🫣 YES PLEASE! If anyone agrees, please like this post!
Thank you to the author for sharing the eARC with me. I loved it!
