WOW. The Cured smacks of realism that is truly terrifying. Nanotechnology. Weapons of mass destruction. Greed. Abuse of power. Conspiracy. Rogue government agents. The characters are to be loved and hated. I love that the characters traverse the spectrum of humanity. Those that feel entitled and let their corruption run rampant, to those who will sacrifice their life to do the right thing. The story centers around the Kira’s family. She and her brother are a genius and on the run from those who wish to use them or kill them. Jeremy, a complete stranger feels a need to help them. He had suffered a crippling loss. Will this be the road to a new life for him? I love diverse characters. We have a lesbian with a cameo part and a boy who has Asperger Syndrome and went into a deep depression when his mother died. I will surely be looking for more books by David Wind and Terese Ramin.
I was contacted by David Wind who asked me if I would like a copy of "The Cured" to read in exchange for an honest review.
This fast paced and enthralling thriller is a collaboration between David Wind and Therese Ramin, both of whom are very well-established writers and it shows. This is an excellent read and a real page-turner with lots of cliff-hangers at the end of chapters making me want to read on and find out what was going to happen next.
The story revolves around Dr Brockman who, a number of years before, developed a ground-breaking drug to cure stomach cancer which to all intents and purposes was highly successful. Only, a few years down the line those treated suffer fatal side effects from the drug in the form of a deadly virus. Is it the drug itself or has it been contaminated? There is a huge legal case and Dr Brockman is due to testify. But there are those out there who don't want that to happen and he is abducted just before the trial is about to start. There is just one person who has the details of how to find his hidden files - his daughter Kira, herself a medical professional, but can she get the data to the lawyers before the bad guys get to her? With her autistic brother Michael in tow, and with the bad guys heavily in pursuit, Kira has to take flight. With the help of a stranger who, by a strange twist of fate, has a connection with all of this, Kira and Michael manage to narrowly avoid their pursuers at every turn until the final climax. Will they avoid capture and death?
You'll have to read this seriously gripping thriller to find out.
The Cured is great novel that's full of suspense and action. It's very well written and formatted, but, more importantly, It's a real thriller. From the very first page, it'll suck you in as Dr. Brockman tries to escape the claws of an 'evil organization' that strives to keep its skeletons locked away in the closet and will stop at nothing to do so. His family; son Michael and daughter Kira, as well as his dear ones, are now in danger, and anyone who knows about the 'flaw' will suffer because of it. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Enjoy this 5-star book.
David Wind and Terese Ramin have written a book around a premise that could be in the headlines tomorrow or any day. The characters come to life from the first page and take you by the throat. You can't stop reading; this is an 'up til 2 am' book if ever there was one. If you want something that will pull you right out of your own life and put you breathlessly in the middle of a great story, this is the book for you!
What a ride.... From the moment I started it, I had trouble putting it down. The characters were very well developed and very interesting. The young brother....I felt for him. The plot moved things along at a fast pace and just the thought of a big conglomerate that might just do something like this makes me nervous. But read this book,it is worth the time.
I found this book to be a fast paced smooth read that kept me interest from start to finish. The story line which built from a suspenseful opening into a medical, terrorism thriller held my interest completely. Excellent read! I bought it Monday and finished it today.
The Cured is a rip-roaring, can't-put-it-down thriller with more twists than you can shake a stick at. Dinner was on the table late two nights in a row because of it!
This was a page-turning, rollicking ride of a thriller, taking the reader into the dangerous world of corporate greed while showing how a U.S. Senator can use his power to accumulate wealth at the expense of his constituents and society. Though I’m not familiar with the high tech world of spying etc.--I don’t usually read thrillers -- I found it interesting how the author relied on his knowledge of computers and government databases to reveal bits and pieces of the information being sought by the novel’s protagonist. The premise – that a corporation would develop a nanotechnology that could be used to murder thousands – was a good one and the search for ways to stop this from happening kept me reading for hours at a sitting.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This medical thriller involves conspiracy, assassination, and possible terrorism. Doctor Brockman, who only wanted to find a cure for cancer – the same kind of cancer his wife suffered from, ends up causing deaths world wide with a medication that appeared to have cured the cancer at first. It wasn’t until years later that a virus, a deathly “side effect” of the drug took place. He secretly researches the drug to find out what the cause of the virus was – if it was an inside or outside source of contamination and exactly what mutated virus was involved in the deaths. What he discovers is big enough to bring down the international corporation when he gives it to the lawyers heading the case for the victims. So, he hopes the pharmaceutical company doesn’t find him out before he testifies. The drug company does not want him to testify in the tort law suit and will do just about anything to keep him from doing so. Even though the entire story hinges on his testimony, he doesn’t play a big role beyond the beginning of the book. His daughter, Kira, and disabled son, Michael are thrown into the middle when Kira gets a 911 page from her father and assumes that he has been discovered by the drug company. She gets to her brother as fast as she can, but not fast enough. The bad guys are already on to her and she barely escapes with Michael in tow. Michael suffers from some disabilities, but also has a genius IQ. They are chased across the country with help along the way, and a leave a trail of dead bodies trying to get the information to the lawyers that her father wasn’t able to give before he went missing. There is a lot of action and adventure in this book. The plot and premise are intriguing. However, There were also a lot of characters, and sometimes I got confused trying to keep track of them and had to backtrack to remember. Many weren’t really “known” characters, not really described.
This is a very good story the characters are great, I loved them, the storyline flows very well, all with a satisfying ending. This is a great story for all who like mysteries and chases.
Doctor Donald Brockman came up with a cure for a form of cancer. Then over 4000 people died and the drug was recalled. Dr. Brockman and his daughter Kira believe something "shady" is going on. Possibly a conspiracy and Dr. Brockman is set up for the "fall guy".
Then Kira gets a call from her Father, he is in danger. Kira and her brother are on the run, her father has been taken. Not sure who has him or what they will do to her father, Kira is more than worried. Soon she finds her life and her brothers are in danger as well. Now the FBI and Homeland security are after them.
It becomes a race for time, Kira is determined to discover the truth about the deaths. What she discovers is beyond frightening. Soon it is a race for her life, her brother and her father.
A well written psychological thriller. The plot is very intense, and very believable. (Something that could happen in real life). I really liked Kira and her special needs brother. She is very intelligent and determined to do the right thing. I loved the fast pace and the intense drama. I highly recommend The Cured to those who love a great psychological/dramatic/thrilling story of suspense.
This book is a very real possibility. Corporations and politicians are so greedy these days that this story could become true in the very near future. The saying that if somebody can write about it it's probably already happened is possible for this. While there are some editing issues, they were not bad enough to ruin a truly great story. Another author for my "fav authors" collection.
Awful. 70% was a cross-country manhunt for a 20-something not-really-a-doctor-yet-resident and her slightly autistic brother? Give me a break. Hard to believe every FBI/CIA/Homeland Security officer knows everyone. And the gotcha wasn't even that good...
(A side note, I pictured Sen. Bud Henderson to be Sen. Hollis from Scandal)
Great , Great book !!! It has all the right ingredients of a perfect suspense thriller. Although it is a very complicated story, David Wind and Terese Raminwas were able to make it believable. Once you start reading, it will be hard to put it down. This is one of those books I mark as a 6 star. The only disappoint I got was the fact that it wasn’t a 500 page book to lengthen my enjoyment
The Cured by Terese Ramin and David Wind A suspenseful treacherous journey about loss, healing and hope filled with characters that pull you into their world from the opening scene. You won’t be able to put this one down until you see how it ends.
I highly recommend this book! The character development is remarkable, subject matter exciting and thought provoking, and the writing, in general is excellent.
