Ich habe mich auf den neuen Lynley-Roman gefreut! Dann habe ich erst mal 4 Stunden Hörbuch hören müssen, um zum ersten Mal einen Namen der beiden Inspectors vernehmen zu können … Das sagt eigentlich schon alles. Viel zu langatmig und langweilig. Wie schon in den letzten Romanen haucht Elizabeth George Nebencharakteren viel zu viel belanglose Details und Leben ein, die der Handlung mehr schaden als helfen. Nach dem tapferen Durchhalten frage ich mich, was ich mit den unfertigen Nebencharakteren soll? Sie tauchen wie ein riesiger Wal auf, überdecken die Handlung und tauchen wieder ab. Wofür? Deren Themen sind nicht im Ansatz fertig erzählt. Also warum musste ich mich durchkämpfen? Lynley und Havers werden zu Fußnoten des Romans.
