A special thank you goes to Torch Lit Ink for providing me with a copy of this book. Please know that this does not influence my rating or thoughts on the book itself.

It’s been a while since I’ve dived into a World War II book. I found myself getting a little burned out by the time period, considering what we are dealing with now. However, when Torch Lit Ink sent me a request for this book, it sounded like the perfect opportunity for me to revisit the time period. I truly enjoyed this book, and I enjoyed my psychotic main characters as well. I say that with all the love. They were psychotic but in the best way. And this book helped me to fall back in love with my first genre love, World War II.

I don’t know whose POV I enjoyed more. Both Alice and Kenneth were fun to read, and I enjoyed seeing them both grow with each other. Nothing makes my heart happier than to see two extremely broken characters break down each other’s walls. This was a true enemies to lovers and it was done exceptionally well. They hated each other so much, but they were also so obsessed with each other. I was living for it. Ya’ll know I am a sucker for character growth, and these two characters had some fantastic growth.

Speaking of things being done exceptionally well, I must mention the BDSM aspects of the book. This is how you do BDSM. There were safe words, consent, constant check-ins, and more. Kenneth may have been a depraved monster who loved putting Nazi heads on a stick, but he makes sure his woman is comfy with anything they might be doing. The minute he did that, I was hooked on him. He’s right up there with Diseal from Den of Vipers.

My only slightly negative complaint, and it’s not even a complaint, is that the dialogue was a touch too modern for the time period. They talked like people from today, with some sayings from the time period and the region they were in or from. But honestly, that didn’t bother me too much. I’m just one of those who are picky about dialogue relating to the time period.

Overall, I’m happy with this book. There were so many things that were done well, and I truly enjoyed the growth between Alice and Kenneth. Y'all know I am a huge sucker for character growth, and this book had it in leaps and bounds. And I should mention that even though this is part of a series, this can be read as a standalone, and you won't miss much. I highly recommend this book, especially for those who enjoy WWII and character growth.

This is the third audiobook in D.E. Dietz’s phenomenal Afton Adders series, and this is my favorite audiobook so far in the series. I have been looking forward to Kenneth’s story, and this definitely did not disappoint. For someone who has never really been into historical romance, I sure am completely obsessed with this WW2-era series! This third book packs a heck of an emotional gut punch with horrific elements of N@zi occupation and concentration camps seamlessly woven into this enemies-to-lovers romance. Kenneth is forced to marry Alice for business reasons, initially referring to her only as “the kraut” due to certain biases left over from his time served in the Great War. Alice is strong-willed and beyond feisty, so she refuses to give him an inch. Basically, she’s Kenneth’s perfect match, and their fantastic banter proves it. Despite an instant attraction on both sides, they clash on nearly every issue. But as time goes by, they realize they’re not so different after all and begin to appreciate what the other offers. And that initial denied attraction explodes into a white-hot chemistry that neither of them can ignore. This story has so many wonderful elements. Baba is back in a big way, and anytime that feisty old woman is involved, you just know it’s going to be the best kind of chaos. And new characters like the adorably-sweet and protective Gunther and Rhino—the bestest puppy ever—bring even more to the story. I seriously loved every second of this!

As usual for this series, Allie Rose and James Joseph deliver absolutely outstanding performances with the duet-style narration. Allie Rose embodies the feisty Alice so perfectly, easily voicing the character’s strength, her sharp tongue and wit, and her hidden vulnerabilities in such an impactful way. And James Joseph… I swear that man can do no wrong in my eyes. His portrayal of Kenneth is so spot on for the character, from his deadpan humor to his Mafia roots to his innate fears and PTSD to the hidden depths of a loving heart too few are allowed to see. These two very talented voice actors are the perfect duo to bring this incredible story to life.

I was eager for this book, after the way book 2 ended. I really wanted to hear Kenneth’s story, brother #3, especially since this was an arranged marriage, and this went differently than I thought it would. The anger and the tension are there, but so is the sexual chemistry. There are a lot of things that take place in this book, and many will make the listener uncomfortable, especially given recent events. This book makes you feel and face some tough truths. I am still not fully connecting with Allie’s narration, but I know that it is a personal problem. James did a great job, and I love listening to him, and the way he takes control of the roll. I especially appreciate the comic relief provided by Bobby and Baba. Can’t wait for her story.
Narration: Duet narration, first-person present tense, multiple-POV some flashbacks

Tropes: Dark, 1937, Germany during the rise of n@zis, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, contract marriage, instant attraction, she is volatile, he is instantly protective of her, her parents are awful, people are going missing, she is the boss, touch her and unalive, she is impulsive, the best dog ever

Overall: 4
Spice: 2.5
Humor: 2
Drama: 3
Darkness: 3.5
Narration: 4.5

Kenneth is the moody middle brother who is set up to marry a Kraut as part of a marriage bargain, with a two-year contract. It is meant to bring the families together and help save the family business from the n@zis moving in on their territory.

Alice is surprised to learn she is attracted to her new husband, unfortunately he is a d!ck and is doing everything he can to push her away. Until one day when he realizes he may not hate her like he though he did, and the two grow close.

One day Alice’s impulsive behavior while trying to save a family from being taken, she finds herself as a prisoner in the nearby concentration camp. Kenneth feels rage like never before, and vows to save his wife, and rain down hellfire on those who took her from him.

"Evil things come in small packages," she retorts.

Alice & Kenneth. These two start out with a bang (not that kind of bang!) right out of the gate. She sneaks into his house, there's a knife involved, some banter, and then they get married. By force. This is the third installment of The Afton Adders series and it did not disappoint. This book moved fast and I loved keeping up with it. Set in WWII as Hitler is moving into small towns in Germany, Kenneth is sent to help Alice protect her town, her family, and everything they have. She's in charge and it's a big job. Kenneth is willing to help but she keeps striking out at him. But there is something pulling them towards each other. There is spice, yearning, angst, suspense, and action in this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I LOVED the artwork in the book and I am mesmerized by the artwork of Kenneth. Alice is an absolute stunner.

Historical fiction is my jam and I absolutely loved reading how they took many nazis down. Looking for female rage? Alice has it and she isn't afraid to use it or show it. But it's her soft side that leads her into something real with Kenneth. Seeing another side to Kenneth is so beautiful. I love these two characters and will be thinking of them and their "adventures" for a while. Can't wait until the next book in the series (and the audiobook!).

I received this eARC for free and my review is voluntary. Thank you to the authors and Luna Literary Management for the chance to read this ARC.

*Audiobook Review*

Kenneth has flown under my radar but is now a close second to Bobby as my favourite Afton brother. I liked possessive Kenneth but petty Kenneth may have been my favourite (Automobile made me laugh every time it came up). Alice was really great too as despite her awful parents she still had a backbone and was entirely capable in her own right. Allie Rose & James Joseph have great chemistry in this duet and are perfect for the push and pull between the characters. Although there is instant attraction, they are both as stubborn as each other but when those walls came down and they were vulnerable with each other everything just clicked.

There are some very dark moments which made for a pretty harrowing listen towards the end once its clear what is happening. I had a visceral reaction to a certain chapter and it has stuck with me since I finished the book. This does end with an HEA but the repercussions aren't glossed over which I appreciated. The performances were stellar during this section in particular.

There were some lighter moments though in the form of Baba and Bobby neither of whom ever disappoint. They both leap off the page and that bonus chapter at the very end is getting my hopes up for a future book! I'm also adding Gunter along with Biscuit from book two to the list of favourite side characters as he was so sweet.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

This is Alice and Kenneth’s story in the Afton Adders series. What a way to tell a story of falling in love during such a horrific time in history.

Alice is Brielle’s cousin and new to being the leader of her gang in Germany. Kenneth has a strong (and just) hatred for “krauts”. Baba and Everett have arranged their marriage. What could possibly go wrong?

Alice and Kenneth may have been forced into marriage to strengthen the families but they were not forced to become obsessed with one another and fall deathly in love. Two real smarta**es become one!!!

“Sociopath meet psychopath”

When the war comes literally for Alice will Kenneth be able to get to her and save her before the Nazi soldiers hurt her? Will he burn the whole world down to get to her? While Alice would normally save her damn self, going against Hitler and his army is not something she can do alone.

This is the fastest paced of the three book and with all the banter and heat brought into the action. Never has there been two souls meant to find and heal one another as Alice and Kenneth. No one else could handle these two lol!!

This is an intriguing and heart stopping way to bring some dark romance into such a sad time of war. This was a perfectly written historical romantasy. These two will slither into your veins and wrap around your heart.

Thank you Deanne and Luna Literary for allowing me such a wonderful time reading such a uniquely exhilarating book. Def one of the top summer reads of 2025!!!

DE writes fierce, layered characters you can’t help but fall for, and in this book, she proves once again why this series stands out. Book Three is raw, passionate, and unputdownable a five star ride.

Alice and Kenneth completely stole my heart in this one. Alice is strong, determined, and refuses to let circumstances define her. She has this mix of vulnerability and fire that makes her unforgettable. Kenneth, on the other hand, is the quiet strength steady, protective, and layered with so much emotion beneath his rough edges. Together, they create a chemistry that is raw, magnetic, and beautifully balanced. Watching their relationship unfold felt both heartbreaking and healing, and I was hooked on every word. These were my favorite characters, I love Malice.
This is heavy, yes, but it’s woven with hope, resilience, and the kind of love that makes all the struggle worth it. DE’s ability to craft fierce, multidimensional characters is on full display here, and Alice and Kenneth may just be my favorite pairing yet.

James Joseph and Allie Rose bring Alice and Kenneth to life with pure magic. James Joseph captures Kenneth’s quiet intensity and protective nature perfectly his voice adds weight to every moment of growth and love. Allie Rose embodies Alice with fierce determination and holds the weight of Alice throughout the whole story.

I swear just when I think I've read my favorite book in the Adder's series D.E. Deitz drops a new one that steals my heart. Bobby will always be my favorite Kenneth... oooh man Kenneth is on a whole nother level.

The chemistry between Kenneth and Alice immediately told me that these two are going to be perfect for each other. Every devil needs their spitfire and that is exactly what Kenneth and Alice are for each other. And I have to say, that train car scene lives rent free in my head now. 🥵

This story is a historical fiction, and touches on some very heavy moments in history, specifically the Nazi uprising and take over. But it is written with so much respect and care that I have to give D.E Deitz kudos for being so respectful to the victims and lives lost during that era and also a huge hug and round of applause from my ancestors for all the Nazis face punches, double axe deaths and an absolute glorious Bison scene! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 😁

Favorite Quotes:

"I am the reaper that will annihilate them from the face of this earth for touching my wife."

"I can’t control how my body yearns for her. The way she causes my soul to erupt with such savagery. She awakens every dark and depraved desire that has been locked away in the depths of my being."

“You are mine now. You will give me what I want, and I will take what you have.”

Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide is a wild ride! This wasn’t a literary masterpiece — but such a fun, entertaining read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Kenneth Afton, our blonde, red-eyed brute with Peaky Blinders swagger and Draco-level broodiness, is scarred by war and fueled by hate. He's forced into a marriage of convenience with Alice, the bold and equally unhinged daughter of a a German mobster. Their relationship begins with pure animosity and spirals into an enemies-to-lovers romance full of chaos, heat, and unexpected tenderness.

And then there’s Baba — chaos incarnate, sharp-tongued, and endlessly entertaining. Honestly, the side characters are just as fun as the leads, and Rhino in particular deserves his own book.

The writing is fast-paced and dark but balanced with humor, witty banter, and emotional moments. Yes, it tackles heavy themes (please check content & trigger warnings) but the mix of mafia politics, morally grey choices, and outrageous character dynamics makes it impossible to put down.

This is the third book in the series. It reads fine as a standalone, but you’ll definitely have a richer reading experience with the earlier books first.

If you’re looking for a dark historical romance with mafia grit, chaotic banter, and characters you’ll love to love (or hate) — this one’s for you.

ALSO, 10/10 for the character art!

Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide is the third book in The Afton Adders series by Deanne Dietz. This was the first book in the series that I have read, and I’m going to have to read the first and second book immediately. What can I say about this book? I loved this book so much. As an avid mafia romance reader, I have found a new favorite sub genre; historical mafia romance. I loved reading about the Afton Adders especially when they were taking out Nazis. I knew I was going to love this book when I read the line “Sociopath meet Psychopath”. The characters of Alice and Kenneth were well developed and well written. Alice is the perfect amount of unhinged that pairs well with Kenneths’s shade of morally grey. Their enemies to lovers tension and banter led to intense chemistry between them. I enjoyed the illustrations in the book, it enhanced my reading experience. I loved the secondary characters, especially Baba and can’t wait to read more about them. This book does discuss dark topics, so make sure to check the warnings. Once I started reading this book I had to finish it in one sitting. Thanks Luna Literary for giving me an opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you DE Dietz for an advanced copy of this book!

It’s a great concept, MMC inspired by Peaky Blinders/Draco. Setting in Europe during Hitlers regime and focused on the gangs and civilian lives during that time (all fake, not real characters) So it’s kinda like a historical romance.

I think it moved a bit quick for me and character emotions weren’t aligned within the same scene? Like…idk how to explain it but it was just very chaotic for me.

Very fun plot line though, arranged marriage to help FMCs gang stay in power during the Nazi occupation and all the issues with that going on along with them figuring out their relationship. Both MCs have scars from their pasts and those dictate how they handle their relationship. I will say these two did grow on me a bit, but it was hard to emotionally connect with them 🤷🏽‍♀️

The spice!! There is quite a bit of spice in here, a lot of their relationship revolves around their physical intimacy. MMC tries holding off because he feels his likes are dark af and doesn’t want to hurt FMC, but ultimately caves (also wasn’t a fan of the scene where this happens, idk it felt anti climactic 🤷🏽‍♀️) There is 1 shibari scene, some impact play punishment (or funishment)

❤️❤️
🖤 (at one point FMC is subject to not fun times not by MMC)

This is the third book in the Affton Adder series. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I truly enjoyed this book on so many levels:

-Enemies to lovers trope
-Arranged marriage between Mafia families prior to WWII
-Strong FMC and MMC
-Hate to love, a strong loving bond
-BDSM
-Historical accuracy

My biggest compliment is how well heavy subject matters, the rise of the Nazis, concentration camps, heroes of the time and repercussions of their actions were handled so eloquently.

In addition , the BDSM component…..done right with constant consent, safe words and utter care for the participants.

Kenneth and Alice’s story made me laugh, cry, sweat, sat on the edge of my seat, cheer and cry again and again. The character growth of both of them individually and together was exceptional.

I read this book in a day. It is a page turner and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the historical fiction. I enjoyed seeing characters obviously from previous books being part of the story. Therefore, I immediately began Book 1.

This needs to be on your TBR As soon as possible. Run don’t walk and add it to your next reading experience.

Thanks to Luna Literacy and D.E. Dietz for an ARC opportunity.

I loved Alice and Kenneth story so much.

I have being curious about Kenneth since book one and I just couldn’t guess the secrets he held close and I was so glad we got to un cover these and learn why he is the way he is. I also loved how much he was obsessed with Alice and nothing was going to stop him from saving her.

Alice was such a strong FMC from the start with her sassy attitude and her quick responses she pushed Kenneth to this limits and it was just what he needed and i really loved them both together.

We also got to hear from Bobby and Everett which was emotional I really all the characters in this world.

This audio was narrated by Allie Rose and James Joseph just as the rest of the series and it was just so spectacular the difference in voice was outstanding each character had their own distinct voice.

Allie Rose always amazes me with her performance but the emotional depth she brought to Alice was amazing especially in the hard scenes in the camp it really was so so powerful.

James Joseph is so good as Kenneth he performs in a way that you know that Kenneth is reserved and so guarded it was so good! JJ is a master of delivering accents and the way he delivers in the series is really outstanding. I always love JJ performance he really knows how to deliver!!

So excited for what D E Dietz has in store next!!

**Audio Review**

Each of the Afton Adders books has been great, but I think that this has been my favorite thus far. A longtime fascination with WWII had me eating this book up and easily finishing it in one day.

Using WWII as a backdrop made for a compelling storyline, and sets the listener up for some very intensely emotional scenes. The addition of the Afton Adders and a rival gang family, the Immer Treu, being brought together by an arranged marriage, made this a fast-paced and deliciously spicy listen!

I wasn't sure how to feel about Alice's character at first, but she quickly won me over with her wit and black cat energy. Kenneth has your typical stoic, no-nonsense Afton personality, but the way that he goes soft like a marshmallow for Alice is so swoon-worthy. Their deep connection is forged through perilous circumstances and the need to form an alliance to defeat a common enemy.

As always, Allie and James do an incredible job narrating. Allie has great range as a voice actress, and the characters that she portrays allow that to shine (Baba in particular, her voice is perfect!). James does very well with intense, broody characters, of which the Aftons are. He managed to make me both love and want to smack Kenneth at several points during the story.

If it’s a part of this series. It’s an automatic 5 stars for me. This peaky blinders inspired series have me in chokehold. This story in particular hurt my heart. Kenneth and his little Malicious arranged lover, were beautiful to watch unfold.

The ‘brute’ of the Afton Adders, taking on a wife that is just as dangerous, powerful and head fast as he is?! Hilarious to witness! You get all the members as per normal, but with a new adventure.

This particular story- the way DD crafted such a well balanced storyline, exploring the tumultuous time era of that [cannot even stomach to say the turds name], wrote the feelings in such a poetic and realistic way, had me in tears. I did not expect it, enjoyed it and hated that it had to be that way. An important reminder of people who came before us and how far we have moved on. And STILL NEED TO MOVE FORWARD.

Narrated by Allie Rose & James Joseph, who again, deliver the accents expertly and with emotion.

Thank you for the alc and providing me with one of my fave series! D.E Dietz + BNA 🖤

SUSPENSEFUL!!!

I absolutely love this book from start to finish. Deanne you truly outdid yourself with this beautiful book. I will always support you. You are one of my favorite indie authors.

This beautiful book is about Kenneth who has a massive dislike for Germans because of what he experienced in the Cold War. The other beautiful character in this book that I absolutely love love love is Alice is a spitfire and will do absolutely anything to get her man. The chemistry between Kenneth and Alice is so compatible that at times I would think that come on do something.

This spectacular book will always have a special place in my heart because it made me feel so many feelings that I couldn’t help myself, but not to fall in love with it. This book put me through a roller coaster of feelings that made me have a massive crush on Alice and Kenneth, made me for madly in love with all the beautiful Adders, made me laugh hysterically, devastated my poor bleeding heart, bawled my eyes out, cried, happy tears in so many other feelings.

If you absolutely love, love love a book about I love that

This is the 3rd book in the Afton Adders series. This was a very quick read for me. This book had a lot of intensity and excitement from the beginning so it immediately captured my attention.

This is the story of Alice and Kenneth who are forced into a marriage in order to kind of bring this connection amd unity to the families. Both of them have attitudes and personality that just soars off the pages. The best way to describe them is that each one of them is a lit match and together they are a wildfire.

The banter between the two of them is entertaining. Although they were forced into marriage, they wind up becoming extremely attracted two one another and the intensity shows.

I give this book a solid four out of five stars.

Tropes:
- Enemies to Lovers
- Shibari
- Touch Her and Die
- Peaky Blinders and Draco inspired MMC
- Morally Grey
- Mafia/ Gangster Romance
- PTSD Healing
- Gangsters effing up Nazis
- Unhinged FMC to the point you don't know if you should crush on her or him.
-Domming
- Forced Marriage/ Forced Proximity
- The witty banter = gut splitting laughter
- Meet Rhino, your new bestie

📚✨ Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide by Deanne Dietz
⭐️4/5 | 🌶️3/5

A special thank you goes to Torch Lit Ink for providing me with a copy of this book. Please know that this does not influence my rating or thoughts on the book itself.

I am in love with this series. The Afton Adders are so interesting, and Kenneth’s story immediately pulled me in and didn’t let go. Kenneth is the dark one—the one who believes he’ll always be alone because he’s a monster, unworthy of love. But family duty doesn’t bend to his fears, and when Baba decides it’s time for an Adder to marry, Kenneth finds himself at the center of it all.

This story weaves historical fiction with deeply emotional character arcs. It doesn’t shy away from heavy, real-world moments, particularly the Nazi uprising and takeover, but Dietz approaches this with respect and care, balancing the darkness of history with the resilience of love and found family.

If you enjoy dark historical romance with flawed yet unforgettable characters, this one is going to stay with you long after you finish.

✨ Reading mood: emotional, heavy, and thought-provoking, but worth every page.

Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide by D.E. Dietz
Performed by Allie Rose & James Joseph

Book three in the Afton Adders Series and it absolutely did not disappoint! From page one, I was hooked. The chemistry between Alice (FMC) and Kenneth (MMC) was pure gold—intense, emotional, and addictive. The story itself was engaging, layered, and so well written. While there were a few heavier, traumatic moments, Dietz handled them with sensitivity and respect, making the emotional beats hit that much harder.

The narration was phenomenal. Allie Rose embodied Alice perfectly, balancing her fierce, fiery nature with the vulnerability that comes through after all she’s endured. James Joseph once again nailed Kenneth, first capturing his cold, distant, and transactional demeanor, then shifting seamlessly into a more protective and heartfelt tone as his connection with Alice deepened. Together, their dynamic created a captivating duet performance that brought the entire story to life.

This installment was everything I wanted—emotional, gripping, and unforgettable. Fans of the series will love it, and newcomers will be instantly drawn in.

MS D.E DIETZ DID IT AGAIN!!! She has produced another book where I’m in love with the FMC just as much as the MMC. Kenneth and Alice are forced to marry for reasons that are beneficial towards each other. Alice has a huge heart but is stubborn, bratty and highly impulsive. Kenneth has been battling his own demons and nightmares for years. Aside from the undeniably tension between these two, they both realize pretty quickly that they need each for more than just political reasons. Everything from Alice pushing all of Kenneth’s buttons, Kenneth getting under Alice’s skin to BABA making sure she inserts herself where it’s not necessary (but also kinda is) to Bobby with a goddamn axe… this was perfect. I think I found my new ComfortRead. If you are like me and are feral for the “touch her and die” and “my wife” trope, this is the book that will consume your heart! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and no criticism will be heard over here!

Let me start by saying this: if you like historical grit, sharp-dressed criminals, emotionally complicated characters—this book series is your next obsession.

This installment dives even deeper into the underworld of the Adders, where loyalty is currency and trust comes with a body count. Dietz has a way of writing characters that feel so real, you half expect them to saunter out of the shadows and ask for a cigarette or an axe.

It’s giving Peaky Blinders, with a dash of Aunt Polly energy and a healthy dose of mafia romance spice. And if you’re into morally gray love interests and heroines who don’t just sit pretty—they scheme, stab, and sass their way to power—then you’ll eat this up.

Id keep your skull away from Alice.

My only complaints? Goodreads needs to get on board with half stars, & i am itching for baba to have her own book. i’m in love with her!

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. To history lovers, mafia romance fans, and anyone who likes their fiction with a side of danger and emotional damage. Start from book one if you haven’t.

Psychos, Plot Twists, and Panty-Melting Tension

Okay book besties, "Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide" by D.E. Dietz? Whew. I devoured it like a midnight snack I shouldn’t have touched but regret NOTHING. This is Book 3 in the Ashton Adder series, and let me tell you—if you’re here for dark and deliciously unhinged characters, you’ve come to the right place.

Alice is a sexy psychopath and Kenneth? Oh, he’s a sociopath with a control complex. Together? A chaotic match made in either heaven or hell—jury's still out 😏. The plot had me hooked, the tension was knife-sharp, and the banter? Pure gold. Their sexual chemistry was spicy as hell 🔥 but the plot still took center stage, and honestly? That balance was chef’s kiss.

Also… Alice being the predator? YEEESSSS! Watching Kenneth squirm was lowkey hilarious and hot AF. And those two bonus scenes at the end? Icing on the cake.

Highly recommend if you love morally gray, beautifully broken chaos. This series is crack and I need the next hit. A must-read, babes. Trust.

My Ratings:
⭐ 4.5/5

I listened to the audiobook version of this story and it really drew me in. I'm not usually a fan of historical romance but these kind of political stories are fascinating to me. I loved the romance between Kenneth and Alice. They had a great relationship development, going from enemies to lovers in an arranged/forced marriage. Seeing the change of heart Kenneth had after he really got to know Alice was amazing. And seeing Alice being this brave, crazy woman that also felt for her husband and his story was touching. The steamy scenes were soo freaking delicious. I loved how Alice was all in for the "depravity" Kenneth brought. The political scenes we saw made this story so much better for me. The narration by James Joseph was exquisite. I loved his accent and his interpretation of the different characters. I was not a huge fan of Allie Rose's interpretation of Alice, I'm sorry to say. She would be perfect for a paranormal story or a villain rather, it's not bad, it's just not what I imagined Alice to sound like. All in all, great story with great characters, and volcano hot spice.

Hearts Strengthened by Cyanide is the third book in The Afton Adders series. Kenneth Afton is the oldest Afton brother. He was ordered to marry Alice. Alice is Brielle’s cousin. We found out at the end book one that Brielle was German. The Aftons despise the Germans. Everett is the head of the Aftons and wants to strengthen the two families together. Alice appears is a meek woman in Kenneth’s mind. He quickly sees glimpses that prove otherwise. Alice is not meek in any way. She is tough as nails. This book is set in 1937 Germany, in the midst of WWII. The Nazis were wreaking havoc in Alice’s town. Kenneth, Alice and Baba travel back to Germany to gain intel and make plans to try and stop the Nazis. The end of this book almost broke my heart. I loved how after all of the hardships Kenneth and Alice endured, they found true love in each other. I can’t wait for more books from this series.

Allie Rose and James Joseph did a phenomenal job narrating this book in duet style narration.

ARC Review -

This story grabs you by the balls and by the end of it, you don't want it to let go. You don't want the experience to leave you, even though it HURTS SO GOOD.
Alice and Kenneth are enemies to lovers, he falls first for her crazy antics. My favorite quote is, "Sociopath meet psychopath." Brilliant.
There is heavier aspect to this story because of the Nazi presence and nefarious scenarios.
Alice is trying to gain control of her newly inherited title for their gang, but their production and operations is shut down.
Props to the writer for slipping in a small bit about how, Eva was her sister, assigned to Adolf to help political gain but it backfired on the family. I like small tidbits where history is woven into the story, especially ANDERS LASSEN!

Out of all three, this was my favorite.

There were bonus chapters as well.

5 STARS.

5 fantastic, maddening, painful, smutty stars.

This might be the most accurate example of a rollercoaster of a book. Seriously.

At first I thought it was just a damn good time. With beautiful vibes, great banter, instalust and more. I was loving it. And then .. slowly .. but somehow fast … I’m crying. I’m heartbroken. The descriptions of the atrocities. The concentration camp. The destruction.

And then after the crying I was back to loving the badassery and smut all over again. Clearly D. Dietz is a sorceress of some kind to be able to make me feel all those things.

I am enamoured by Kenneth and Alice’s story. And absolutely gutted that what they accomplished in this story couldn’t have been the case in every German town in world war 2.

I’m just so impressed. Thank you D. Dietz, thank you for this story. Thank you for this ARC. I’m astonished.

I have all the feels!! I was 100% team Bobby but then author D. E. Dietz gives me Kenneth and Alice’s book and I’m a goner. Kenneth is the oldest brother in the Afton Adders family and is forced into an arranged marriage with Alice. Alice is from a town in Germany during the time Germany is being taken over by Nazis and you can imagine what happens from there (you really can’t but you will find out when you read this book! 😉).
The voice actors (Allie Rose and James Joseph) did not disappoint (which we already knew how great they are) and blue nose production did a fantastic job as always!
If you are a fan of enemy’s to lovers, witty banter, BDSM (it’s 🔥) and love a good rollercoaster ride, this book (and the whole series) is for you. I promise you will not be disappointed and just wait until you meet Baba! 🙌🏼😆
