Their hallway tryst ended in heartache. She wants revenge — he’s desperate for another taste.
Lucy Makeblythe has spent months trying to forget the night rich, reckless, and ruinously charming Adam Chevestrer took her innocence in a ducal corridor…and vanished before she could catch her breath.
Now he’s back, offering everything from fine gowns to heartfelt apologies. But Lucy wants something a night at the Forest, where the masked, dominant Grand Bucks worship one woman with their mouths, hands, and bodies. And Adam? He’ll be watching. Restrained. Helpless. Desperate.
What he doesn’t know is that Lucy’s carrying more than a grudge. Their first encounter left her filled with a secret he’ll never forget — if she ever tells him.
The Mogul and the Maid is a standalone, 15,000-word super spicy Victorian romance featuring a clever heroine, a repentant rake, public restraint, and a HEA that’s both scandalous and satisfying.
When Adam (H), a ruthless self-made mogul, comes knocking at a servant’s door, he isn’t expecting silence. Or locked bolts. Months after claiming Lucy’s (h) body and vanishing with nothing but a wad of banknotes left behind, he’s desperate to win her back. But Lucy isn't the same woman he walked away from.
Unbeknownst to him, she has his child growing inside her and vengeance burning through her veins. And when Adam agrees to her twisted terms, to watch her be shared by the Grand Bucks while he's bound in a chastity cage, she begins to reclaim control, one steamy, erotic scene at a time. In a room full of masked men, his eyes and body betray how broken he’s become without her.
But beneath the seduction and spectacle, old wounds begin to close. Adam removes his mask. Lucy drops her guard. And when the truth comes out, so does a future they never thought they could have. With raw honesty and desperate desire, they fight to turn lust and regret into something lasting.
Lucy evolves from a guarded, prideful maid into a bold, self-assured woman who takes full ownership of her body and choices. Adam transforms from a cocky, careless mogul into a vulnerable, devoted partner willing to beg, kneel, and surrender. Together, they shift from imbalance and betrayal to mutual trust and scorching intimacy.
Ultra-hot and steamy Victorian erotic romance exploring control, social mobility, obsession, vulnerability, revenge, forgiveness, love, redemption, secrecy, dominance, submission, and identity. It's about what it means to beg, to burn, and to break, and then to build something stronger.
I have been waiting for this one since I’ve read His Duchess’s Lovers series and it didn’t disappoint. I’m also happy this is the start of a new series about the Grand Bucks 👀
In the prologue to this book, free via the author’s newsletter, we see Makeblythe and Adam Chevestrer have a little tryst after we left them in Filled by the Stud. Adam was so excited he came early and as a result Lucy gets pregnant and she is pissed also because, right after, Adam’s is overwhelmed and runs away after handing her a wad of cash. Normally this would be triggering for me but in Elizabeth Roubaix’s world I know this has actually a lots of possibilities for redemption.
The story takes off some months after: Adam is desperate for Lucy to talk to him, clueless she’s pregnant, and goes to beg. We see Laurence again and he’s a new man, besotted with his wife. I love him after his character’s development. In Adam’s words: “You’re a real smug prig now that you’re happily in love, you know that?”
The angst between Adam and Lucy was surprising but so good and hot. Lucy decides to make him pay, literally, by taking his precious things, and metaforically, by asking for a night with the Bucks and Adam is surprisingly aroused by all of it. I had a great time. Makeblythe wasn’t depicted as a hopeless maid taken advantage of but a spirited woman willing to make Adam pay for what he did. This is Victorian erotica but manages to subvert expectations. Very VERY hot.
I recommend this if you want some bonkers and super spicy erotica. Thanks to the author and Booksprout for the review copy. I would love to see another newsletter’s exclusive in which the Chevestrers and the Astwells “play” together, especially cause I want so see Makeblythe and the Duchess together without the power imbalance.

Content warnings: a lot of graphic sex, pregnancy, infidelity
Yeah, I am very much not the target audience for this book. I saw someone on Instagram mention this series and how it's, like, goofy and laugh-out-loud funny and I was here for that. And then I got 93 pages of papier mache deer heads worn during group sex and all I could think about was the extremely high probability that at least one of the Bucks has an STI and that if Lucy would just Use Her Damned Words, this whole thing could have been resolved much faster. But, like, I guess the sexy times parts worked for people who definitely aren't me?
Taking place in 1880 in London, Businessman Adam Chevestrer, made his money to start a legit business by selling himself to the elite women to give each other a good time and make babies that are not his responsibilities but the women's husbands. He has a problem, he can't control his manhood around a pretty woman and not caring of the consequences, and a month or two prior to this story Adam saw and took his liberties with his friends wife lady's maid Lucy. He knows a new thing he enjoys, being caged and dominated by Lucy.
Lucy Makebythe, was a virgin when Adam took her in the closet and now she knows she needs to do something to insure she to get what she needs for when her baby comes into the world and make Adam pay, and pay she did to him. Took his pocket watches, his bedroom key and even handkerchiefs but when she saw his Grand Buck mask and a chastity cage and that gave her the ultimate revenge and payback, having bucks pleasure her and make Adam watch with a cage and no touching, aka modern-day cuckolding...
Will Adam learn to pay for what he did to Lucy and will Lucy tell him about the baby? Adam never touched another woman after nor showed up for the Bucks since taking Lucy in the closet months ago.
Corsets, Consequences & Carnal Revenge—Yes, My Lady! Listen… I opened this little Victorian firecracker expecting scandal and spice—and whew, did Elizabeth Roubaix deliver. But what I didn’t expect was to fall completely for Lucy Makeblythe, a woman who took heartbreak and turned it into the most delicious, calculated revenge fantasy I've ever read. Y’all, this is not your prim-and-proper historical romance. This is corset-ripping, boundary-pushing, reclaim-your-power erotica wrapped in velvet and silk with a bite of bittersweet heartbreak. Lucy isn't just a maid—she's a woman on a mission. After Adam, our reckless, ruinously hot duke-in-denial, took her innocence in the shadows and ghosted like a gentleman scoundrel, she didn’t cry into her apron. Oh no. She leveled the hell up. Now he’s back, all apologies and aching regret, but Lucy? She’s not here for the flowers. She’s got a plan—a masked fantasy at the Forest, where she's the one being worshipped, and Adam? He’s tied up, watching. That’s right. This isn’t just about lust—it’s about flipping the power script in the most poetic (and wickedly steamy) way possible. 👏🏼 The dynamic between them? Electric. Tension you could cut with a glove pin. And when that secret baby twist dropped? Yeah, I gasped. Lucy’s revenge isn’t just physical—it’s emotional, layered, and absolutely justified. She’s not just reclaiming her pleasure—she’s reminding Adam who exactly he let slip away. Tropes I ate up like bonbons behind a velvet curtain: 🔥 Secret baby (in a novella? YES MA’AM) 🥀 Scorned-but-still-simmering one-night stand 🎭 Public restraint + masked pleasure society (SCREAMING) 💋 Repentant rake who just wants to worship 💅 Power shift that had me grinning with female vengeance Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 This one doesn’t warm up slowly—it walks in, slams the door, and throws you straight onto the fainting couch. Erotic, emotional, and oh-so-satisfying. HEA: Oh yes, and it’s the kind that makes you fan yourself and sigh at the same time. Length: Short, but make no mistake—this packs a full story arc with teeth, tears, and toe-curls. Final Verdict: The Mogul and the Maid is the ultimate revenge fantasy with a historical twist. If you’ve ever wanted to see a betrayed woman take her power back—in the most decadent, dominant way—this is your story. Elizabeth Roubaix’s writing is sharp, sultry, and utterly addictive. Lucy is that girl. Adam is that fool who realized way too late what he lost. And together? They gave me one of the most satisfying spicy second chances I’ve read in ages. Would I sell my virtue at the Forest just to be in Lucy’s place? Absolutely.
A stud turned into a hopeless romantic as a result of one tryst in the hallway with a maid. It's stuff of romance novels, and that's what you think you're getting when starting this story. However, deep down it's a revenge story, that might take a left turn along the way. It's also got the Grand Bucks emerging their big heads again, a cage that brings not only pain but pleasure, a trip through the forest, and the most unique proposal I've read in a historical romance in a long while. I loved how Lucy took the situation and made it her own and ruled over it like a truly fine lady, looking out for herself first and foremost and then eventually letting her heart win also.
If you get the chance, read the prequel Maid A Mother first as it makes this story so much better once you have that story in mind while reading this one. It also bridges the gap from the His Duchess' Lovers series to this new series quite nicely.

Thanks to Elizabeth Roubaix for the review copy and this is my honest review.
Best read the prequel first (free with newsletter sign up) of their hallway tryst where the hero royally goofed it up. You would think for someone nicknamed the Stud would be more suave but he's only good at ejectulating not wooing females.
I cannot believe Elizabeth Roubaix brought THIS and the GRAND BUCKS together under one roof. I love it, I want to learn more about their society and the buckaroos. The relationship developed between the hero's infatuation with the heroine was so sweet, and especially when she started asserting herself, the hero found out he really loves that.
The Mogul and the Maid is Book 1 of A Few Good Bucks. It's a short and steamy, opposites-attract, secret pregnancy, smutty, revenge by a woman scorned, Victorian erotic short. Adam is a hunky rake. Lucy is a maid he had a tryst with her only to disappear. When he comes back to claim her, she has some kinky, smutty terms for him as part of her revenge. This was a hot little read high on the smut factor. We do get our HEA too after the revenge making it a sweet second chance.

Yes, this is a standalone but I recommend reading the Duchess series first since that is where Lucy and Adam make their first appearance. Then read the prequel Maid A Mother to see what happens before the events in this book.
I love how horny Adam is for Lucy- it's so ridiculously sweet. Lucy is a boss 🙌🏾 telling Adam what he can't and can do (You tell him, queen!) straight up "stealing" from him and yet all that turns him on lol.
With Adam retiring, that's one less buck for the wealthy ladies to get their orgasms. Poor one out for the homies 🕯
The first story in the A Few Good Bucks, Lucy Makeblythe and Adam Chevestrer had one night together and the he left her. Now he is back and she wants revenge. A well written story with a very good storyline and a happy ending. I want to read the next book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3 1/2*STARS* A split decision on four stars or three. I get why the author used four bucks, but I felt the flow was interrupted with too much verbal interference. Think of the first buck as the only participant, instead of four. All that matters is the maid gets the man she wants and an HEA. Explicit sex. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.1/*STARS*
Debauched, depraved and very entertaining. A former stud getting hot over a stern maid and said sweet, but stern maid bent for revenge and recompensation.

This fast-paced, steamy romance is not suitable for younger audiences and is best enjoyed after reading the full series to fully grasp certain plotlines. The story revolves around the relationship between a high-class citizen, and a maid to a duchess—poor and once naively charmed by him.
Each character's emotions are raw, detailed, and at times exaggerated, which helps immerse the reader in their world. Lucy Makeblythe’s anger, frustration, and inner conflict—especially around her desires—create a compelling balance against the impulsive and often unethical decisions she makes. Meanwhile, Adam Chevestrer, the aristocratic playboy, does everything he can to win her over.
This story is perfect for fans of steamy romance, instant chemistry, and readers willing to go on a long haul of spice. It delivers clashing personalities, sizzling tension, and emotionally charged encounters.
A tale of a maid-in-waiting and her aristocrat, The Mogul and the Maid explores their “unfortunate” second encounter—one Lucy never wanted, as their first encounter drastically altered her life. The story contains highly graphic sex scenes, emotional tension, and power dynamics that shift throughout the book. Adam, once the dominant force, slowly begins to submit emotionally, while Lucy wrestles with her vulnerability and lingering heartbreak.
Pros: Compelling and fast-paced Sizzling tension and chemistry Raw emotional layers and erotic detail
Cons: Light plot development.
This is a spicy, emotional rollercoaster for lovers of erotic historical romance, featuring instant attraction, clashing wills, and characters navigating passion, heartbreak, and power.

If anyone knows how to write enticing erotic short stories set during the 1800s with interesting characters, both nobles and commoners, it is Elizabeth Roubaix. Her short stories are perfect for that rainy afternoon or a cozy evening in front of the fireplace. “The Mogul and the Maid” is quite enjoyable as two orphans, Adam and Lucy, quite compatible in bed, have to learn how to navigate a relationship. The Grand Bucks are a hoot with their paper mache masks and sexually inspired nicknames. They are all horny and very well endowed. I especially liked Lucy, she figured out how to take what she wanted, her early life didn’t stand in her way. There is a free, very short prequel to this story called “Made a Mother” that can be found by signing up for Elizabeth’s newsletter that gives insight on the rocky beginning of Adam and Lucy’s relationship. It is worth taking the time to download and read before getting into this story. Yes, Elizabeth’s stories have a lot of sex, but the sex is in the context of a story, and that ist what makes me choose one of her book to read.
Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this short story and this is my freely given opinion.
This is listed as book 1 of A Few Good Bucks, but does involve characters that were part of the His Duchesse's Lovers series (Filled by the Stud), and there is a prequel that comes from signing up with the author's newsletter, titled Maid a Mother.
This is historical erotica with quite explicit open door sexual content, including multiple partners, and voyeurism. It is short, and smutty, with an HEA.
So if you are looking for a short, smutty, fun read, this will definitely fulfill that for you, but I do think that it would be helpful to read the other stories I listed.
Sometimes you just need low commitment, fun smut and this meets that need. Kind of like when you know you should be choosing that quinoa salad, but eat the onion rings and root beer float for lunch instead. Maybe not the best choice, and maybe some passing regrets, but ultimately you still enjoyed it.
We first met Lucy Makeblythe and Adam Chevestrer in Filled by the Stud. The free prequel (on signing up to author’s newsletter) is set right after that story where Adam takes Lucy’s virginity in the Duchess’s hallway and gets her pregnant. Worse he gives her a wad of cash afterwards to get herself ‘something nice’, idiotically not realising how that looks. This story takes place some months after that encounter, Adam wanting to be with her again. Lucy is angry and wants revenge and boy does she make him pay. An erotic night with the Grand Bucks with Adam caged and watching ensues. Highly hot and explicit, this is the first book in a new series following the Bucks.

Really good, really hot, and quite emotional. For regency, the FMC is quite strong and doesn't just take the hand fate dealt her lying down; well, not ONLY lying down...... Talk about a comedy of errors - failed communication after the fact of relying on the best of intentions. Worth the read!.

I read the complete series that this book is a spin off from (it was fine) and when I first started this book I thought, wow, this will be different but unfortunately it was not. It quickly deteriorated. I get that this is erotic romance but it jumped the shark (like the previous series) and I just couldn’t understand why Adam put himself through it.
I'm not usually one for revenge stories, but I found Lucy's approach to serving comeuppance to her clueless one-night stand, namely her trysting with a cabal of masked man with him watching while he's wearing a chastity device, very enjoyable. Legendary behaviour from the lovely and resourceful lady's maid.
The Mogul and the Maid is a short and VERY spicy victorian romance about love and jealousy and a girl taking revenge against the man who left her and taking back her power. It was an intriguing read.
