Centuries of calamities took humanity to the brink of extinction. Now, with the aid of a time capsule, the human race is once more populating the Earth, resurrecting technologies lost centuries earlier. With those innovations, though, come civilization's need to fight for control. Just as humanity seemed poised for a return to stability, they'll learn that some among them seek a return to extinction. They need only find the right time, and the right person, to put their plans in motion.
I am a lifelong Ohio resident, where I live with my wife and three children. When I'm not trying to be in three places at once with my active youngsters, I'm following local professional and collegiate sports teams, or possibly unscrambling a Rubik's Cube. In lieu of sleep, I read and write fiction.
My debut novel, A QUESTION OF WILL, explores themes of technological advancement, human potential (good and bad), and the love bonding a family together. It reached the Amazon Top 100 in Science Fiction -> High Tech less than a week after publication. The sequels--PRESERVING HOPE, ASCENT OF THE ALIOMENTI, and BIRTH OF THE ALLIANCE--continue to follow Will's adventures, bringing to life the technological and Energy advances he's achieved in entirely new settings.
I am currently drafting the fifth of seven novels in the series.
. . I guess I am too dumb to follow this livid peice of sht. . . “…She pulled up to the parking garage barrier and fumbled in her bag for her badge. They used the same badge for true Jamison & Associates employees like Jocelyn Whitfield as they did for those who worked underground, which prevented awkward questions when the two groups mingled. She found the badge and swiped it, watched the light turn green, and listened as the barrier lifted. She drove through, wondering why they bothered barricading the entry to the parking garage when no one but employees and clients had reason to use the facility.…”
WHAT ???????? WHATWHATWHAT ????? What?
“… Roddy, resourceful though he might be, wouldn’t survive Oswald’s mild discomfort. She wondered if she ought to go to Roddy now, tell him everything, and see if he could stop events at this late hour. Oswald told her it was impossible. She’d accepted that assessment and had done the part she’d agreed to perform.…”
WHO is OSWALD ???????
“…’Do you want to see her?’ Deirdre asked. ‘It’s complicated.’ ‘Why?’ ‘There’s someone else.’ She turned around. ‘Really? Anyone I know, Stephen?’ His eyes smoldered. ‘I think so.’ She was in his arms seconds later. It was so much better this time. And her elaborate plan to save his life? He’d just made the effort worthwhile…..”
WHAT ???????? WHATWHATWHAT ????? What?
“…He’d not wanted to believe what he’d seen when he’d arrived that morning. The evidence seemed incontrovertible. He needed a different set of eyes and a different way of thinking to review the evidence and tell him the evidence didn’t mean what he thought it meant. He needed Sheila here. Now. Where the hell was she…?”
WHO THE “ ‘HELL’ ” IS “ ‘SHE’ ?????????”
“…He strolled into the main lobby of The Bunker. The Bunker was a clandestine underground military outpost serving as both a think tank and observation station. His team monitored the scant information retrieved from Eastern territories, watching for actual troop activity, interpreting intercepted communications, and identifying military applications of any and all newly minted private sector products. Breaking with social norms, people worked at the Bunker throughout the night. Shifts ensured that none of his people needed to travel during curfew hours. With only two exceptions, the employees here were soldiers who’d completed the basic defensive training and who’d not graduated into the ranks of soldiers able and willing to learn offensive tactics.…”
“… He’d designed the Bunker himself, including the hidden area he’d shown Sheila Clarke in the darkest hours of the night. He knew all of its secrets. And no one else knew. Or so he’d thought. He watched as the workers mingled in the lobby, some arriving from the elaborate entry system, some leaving in a similar manner. Wesley Cardinal looked terrible, like he’d been ill, and Micah watched as the man stumbled around the lobby as if under the influence of some powerful intoxicant, talking to himself. His fellow employees said nothing aloud, but looks of disgust covered their faces.…”
WHAT ?????
I quit reading; there’s no way I am intelligent enuff to follow this peice uv crappe bllsht storye.
Technically, Activate is a well written book, but I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I was also kind of disappointed when I found out that the Ravagers were just tiny robots with the ability to destroy everything except water and Diasteel. I got the first three books of this series as a discounted boxset, so I'll read books two and three, and maybe my opinion will improve. However, if I didn't already own the next two books, I probably wouldn't continue the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This took me some time to get into, I had to really push myself. The main reason it was hard for me was because I struggle to keep switching between characters when there's quite a few different point of views, it seemed a bit messy to me. But, I did push through, and I'm really glad I did cause I really enjoyed the ausoebse and twists and turns! And I need to know what happens next!
A lot of intrigue and deceit made the story interesting.
BUT...Each chapter started with a quote from a mythical book - annoying. The chapters were each told from the perspective of a character (5 characters/5 chapters each plus one more) - had to work out the role of the current character.
Reading using text to speech so my son could listen. I found myself drawn into the story. My son is a lover of these types of books. Me not so much. He loved it me I listened and wasn't in a hurry to get to the end. So next book up, sooner rather than later.
I spent most of the beginning of the book figuring out who was who and trying to place them. was pretty confusing as this novel is written from several different characters veiwpoint. Seriously stick with it by thim you finish book 2 you will be hooked and screaming for book 3
A quick read on science fiction genre. There is a secret in the end, but the process to unveiled this secret was rather circling and the story seems there just as a filler.
This genre is admittedly not one of my favorites as it's difficult to find an author that can tell stories like this without it being too dry. This author is similar to Isaac Asimov! For me personally it kept jumping around too much, had reference notes that didn't make sense to me and there was so much to include (details) that the fallout was the failure to connect any likeability or feelings to any of the characters. I like to feel (whether it's repeatability, dislike or any other feelings) for the characters in the story. When I am completely ambivalent then the story is a miss. The premise is unique the writing coherent and for people that don't have those same elemental preferences you would enjoy this story and where it's headed.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was exciting and, at the same time, an easy read. In fact it was over too soon, one of those books where you turn the page and it's the last one that you weren't expecting. Fortunately there's a second book, "Detonate" that I'm about to start reading.
The book was short and action packed. It was interesting to see different points of view all about the same situation. There was a few grammatical errors making it the sentences harder to read and understand at some points. Also, not having a true background on certain topics makes you feel like you’ve missed something. It’s decent book. Interested in reading the second installment of the series.
After loving the Aliomenti Saga so much, I wasn't sure how this would hold up. It is a good book on its own. I can't wait to read the next one and start to see how it connects. Alex hasn't let me down so far. I am curious to learn how this 'world' came to be in the state it is in.
Story line was interesting, tho I was lost at first. When it got to the point of where time line started , easier to piece together. Reading was better towards the end and I look forward now to the next book.
I'm not usually a fan of science fiction, but this book blew me away. Told from the viewpoints of many, this is a fast paced thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. READ THIS BOOK! 5 outta 5
In a post apocalyptic world, when civilization had been restored to a resemblance of normal, there was always going to be the set of people who wanted power. Unfortunately, that power came at the destruction of every thing else. They had the means at hand, all they had to do is instigate it.
