In a world of hidden paranormals and cruel laws around their capture and detention, a paranormal hunter captures his pyrokinetic ex-lover as an act of revenge for the death of his family in a fire.

This is a quick story that's heavy on the sexual connection between Jack and Cindy, even when Jack thinks the absolute worst of Cindy and acts accordingly towards her. All through it Jack and Cindy's sexual reactions to each other keep coming up and at some really horrible moments. I think the reader is meant to believe that they're connection is so strong it will even overcome horrible betrayal and murder, and frankly, I just find that a very uncomfortable reading experience.

Other than that, the sexy times are indeed very sexy, and the attitude to paranormals in this US society is horribly believable for today's America, so while the story hit some sour notes for me, I didn't mind it overall.

There are two more in this series and some of the characters in that are introduced here. The next one, a MM romance between a hunter and a paranormal with trouble controlling his abilities should be interesting.

Ok I'm going to be brief( well for me that is) I didn't like how I was thrust into this story. Jack is fantasizing about a past relationship that clearly had catastrophic results. He's still obsessed by the woman and yet happy to take her prisoner so that others might end her. Nothing is cut and dried, secrets abound but for me the physical relationship felt wrong.
It's the first of a series but clearly the author is imaginative. I'm not giving up and trying the rest of this series. Maybe I just need a story that captures me?

Sometimes a little passion is all you need to ignite a fire.
Jack Marilla was in love, willing to give up anything for his girlfriend Cindy even if she is a pyro and his family is in the business of hunting paranormals down. Their future all came tumbling down in a blazing inferno.
Two years later, Jake finally catches up with Cindy again, not for passion but for revenge. She is his number one suspect in the fire that killed his whole family and left him physically and emotionally scarred. Will his love for her overcome his revenge or will she be the one whose burned this time?
A sizzling story that will light your fire and your bed toasty as you tucker in for the night. It was an easy fast read that you won't want to put down. I had a hard time putting this down, always wondering what would happen next. If you enjoy paranormal romance with a little steamy love and sexy haunted characters then you will not be disappointed with this read. The characters were great fun. Jack was a hot mess, a sexy tortured man who was easy to like and root for. Cindy was a sexy, sassy firecracker who wasn't a pushover but a strong yet vulnerable woman.
The plot was great and the story paced well. I would rate this story 4.5. I can't wait for the next book.

Hot & suspenseful, dangerous & emotional, that is the type of story that Rosko presents to her readers with BURNS LIKE FIRE. This novel was well plotted and wildly original. I loved how wrapped up in the story I became. Rosko made every aspect of it so real for me.

I enjoyed the way that she developed her paranormal characters. The sense of ‘other’ coursed through the entire novel, really ramping up the differences between the two main characters. At the same time, the main characters were developed very well as individuals. I really liked them both. Their turbulent relationship was full of misunderstandings, but the inescapable chemistry between the pair definitely spiced up the novel. I loved how Rosko used sex to enhance the emotions and sense of betrayal between these two, adding to the storyline.

This novel was definitely a fantastic first story in Rosko’s series. I loved getting to know the characters and their world. I also enjoyed the little foray into the lives of the characters for the next novel. I can’t wait to read it either.

It starts out a bit slow - but once the fire gets started - Explosive read!
This is a paranormal romantic suspense
The background of the characters and how they got to where they are today is done via "flashbacks"
I actually lost track of time once the action got started and the pieces started falling into place - not to mention some serious twists in the tale I did not see coming!
I wished there had been a little more detail in certain scenes - how did they get there? why so quickly all of a sudden? (no spoilers ) and maybe a little more detail on some of the characters and their backgrounds - though I have to believe a lot will come out in book 2 - the first book in a series tends to leave me with more questions than answers

Wow, fantastic. That fine line between love and hate is felt strongly in the beginning of this story. The story keeps your interest and attention. The two of them trying to use their attraction to each other against each other was laugh out loud funny. Jack and Cindy have a chemistry that will heat you up and excite. I had to fan off and grab an ice filled drink after finishing this book. I hope the rest of this series is written in the same way.

Sorry, just did not enjoy this world of persecution against paranormals.
Didn't like Jack, any man who hits a woman is an arse no matter what his compulsion/history. His behaviour didn't improve until nearly the end.
Cindy has been through hell, attacked, losing their baby, then thinking Jack was dead, only to have him pop up two years later, arrest and imprison her and treat her like crap.
She should have burnt the lot of them.

I feel like this storys starts as if you should know what's going on. It was ok. More happens at Jack's house with not much suspense. Near the end, it switches to two different characters who were mentioned briefly.

I enjoyed the story. It was an easy read and the interaction between the characters was smooth. The story goes to and fro to the past but it is easy enough to keep pace. Cindy and Jack's story ended, all be it rather abruptly, but it does lead to a cliff hanger ending for the next book in this series. I will be reading the next book.

I've been looking forward to reading Burns Like Fire since I grabbed it as an Amazon Freebie in February. Pyro v. hunter, former love interests, sounds great.

Jack is from a family of paranormal hunters who track, capture and turn over paranormals to the government. Cindy is a fire starter. Two years ago, after just three weeks together, they were both happy and in love. Cindy is off to college and Jack's planning to follow her there. He has no interest in following in his family's footsteps - hunting is not for him. Fearing his decision was made too quickly, Cindy takes a chance and tells him of her ability. He's accepting and shares his family's profession with her. Still, they stand by one another and plan to continue their life together. Everything changes when, that same night, Jack's home is set ablaze with his father and two brothers inside - only Jack survives. That was the last time they saw each other. Now, Jack's a hunter. He's tracked Cindy and plans to haul her in.

While I did enjoy their story, the "I remember how good it felt having sex with you" combined with the instant "must have you now no matter what or where" between our main characters, Jack and Cindy, felt off to me. That said, I did like the flashbacks that offered the reader a chance to see how they were prior to the devastating loss Jack suffered. I liked the characters, especially Cindy's best friend Jaime and Jack's best friend and fellow hunter, Ethan, who are primaries in book 2, A Shock To Your System. I like that the story contains paranormals that are not your run of the mill vampires, shifters and witches. So, I will continue on with the series for a bit.

Side note: Third sentence in and Jack's already sportin' wood just from the sight of Cindy. So, I'd say this one veers more on the side of erotic PNR.

I am not usually a romance reader but there are certain types that get my attention. Burns Like Fire by Mandy Rosko is in that category! I do often read stories of the paranormal so I couldn’t quite turn away from this book which seemed to offer my paranormal fix along with a sizable helping of love and lust. I was involved in the story early. The writing was much more realistic than I’m used to in the romance genre. Jack was so believable due to his difficulty keeping his libido under control even while he also burned with a need for revenge.

Cindy is a beautiful woman who is both strong and vulnerable. She also has special powers. She and Jack were involved before he knew of those powers. Unfortunately, his family was involved in a devastating incident that took the lives of some of his family members. Cindy is the obvious suspect. Jack locates her and takes her under custody planning to turn her over to a special kind of authority that deals with this type of thing. He is tripped up when his organization is unable to take Cindy due to delays beyond their control.

Jack is strong but he isn’t the type to let someone suffer needlessly, so he has to care for her while he waits for help. Then he begins to question everything that led him to this point. This novel is suspenseful and steamy. The author captures the reader like Jack captures Cindy. Whether you love the paranormal with a sexy twist or you love romance with a paranormal sideline, you are likely to enjoy this book.

Jack and Cindy reunite after two years apart. Both have different feelings and views about what caused the time apart and what happened after. Cindy is a paranormal firestarter and Jack is a paranormal hunter.

I enjoyed this book and never lost interest! There were plenty of times I wanted to kick one of the characters but I always wanted to see what came next. Here's what it boiled down to for me.

I had some mixed feelings about this book. Ok, the pros: good action, steady paced, some steamy scenes, kept my attention throughout, engaging characters and a great lead in for the next story in the series. I liked Cindy, she was beat down again & again but is strong enough to keep going.

The cons: Jack for me was a hero I wanted to strangle and at most didn't want to kick in the end. I'm not going to give spoilers but he frustrated me!! You will understand after you read the story.

I would recommend this book because it is very well written and you're absorbed into the story throughout. The next two stories in this series are not out yet but they sound like they will continue with this story line and you will see these characters again.

Jack a paranormal hunter is out for revenge,he lost his family in a fire and he barely made it out himself. His prime suspect is his pyro ex girlfriend.

Cindy is a paranormal fire starter , the day her boyfriend Jack tells her of his "family business" is also the day he loses his family.....

Jack has been watching or rather tracking Cindy for quite some time and the time has come for him to capture her and take her in. She'll be collected and heading to a facility where she'll be no more than a lab rat.

Jack is faced with a challenge when the collectors are delayed. Cindy keeps pleading her innocence and tries working her womanly wiles and it seems fruitless at an stage but lady luck smiles upon them , the delay has given Jack and Cindy a chance for the truth to come out and it's really sad actually.

Any fans of X-Men will enjoy this ,I did anyway! The were a few close calls where my kindle nearly melted. ...damn they've got some serious heat going between them.

Just as I'm about to have a temper tantrum that would scare any 2 year old Mandy Rosko throws me a lifeline at the end of her cliffie.....an excerpt from "A shock to your system" a ★★★★★ save right there! Well done sugar ;)

Hiding behind parking lot shrubs, Jack Marilla, a paranormal hunter for the government, watched Cindy Chase with a mixture of hatred and lust. Two years previous, she had been the cause of his family being burned alive, locked inside the house she set on fire to destroy them. He stealthily followed her to her car and subdued her with chloroform before she could flame up her body and burn him. He put magical shackles on her wrists so her power would be contained, and he went to search her apartment.

Cindy woke up in darkness, contained in a metal tube. And when Jack removed her to chain her in his basement cell, the magic cuffs prevented her from using her power. He was so angry at her. And when she insisted she did not harm his family, he raged. Now she had to wait 3 days before the collectors would come for her and seal her fate. Death or being experimented on in a lab. Neither fate sounded promising.

This author is one of my favorites and she did not disappoint with this story. You can feel the strong emotion of the characters as if you were right there experiencing it with them. The story moved relentlessly forward, taking the reader with it. I highly recommend this book. It was an excellent read!

I received this book for an honest review on the behalf of "A kiss down under book blog":
Book 1 in a paranormal series, we meet Jack, a paranormal hunter and Cindy a paranormal herself with the power of fire. This is not your normal paranormal story with vampires, etc. What I did enjoy about this book was that it had a story line that I haven't come across before, the story was well written and flowed easily. Now what did get to me a bit was Jack. I would not class him as a strong alpha male. To put it bluntly he was a bit soft for my liking. Don't get me wrong he does have some great attributes, but it was hard not to get frustrated with him. Plus I do struggle with people being completely in love in the sparse of 3 weeks.
The books ends with a bit of a cliff hanger. I'm just hoping that in the next book things do get explained more because near the end of this book you are introduced to new characters with the ending resolving around them. I also am hoping that we get more of a background on how these paranormals became exposed to "normal" people, thus becoming "hunted". Overall I give this book 3 1/2 stars.

Burns Like Fire (Dangerous Creatures Book 1) is the first book in the box set (Dangerous Creatures) that will be coming out Aug 25, 2016. Make sure you buy the set because it is awesome!
This book has a hunter (Jack) searching for his ex-paranormal girlfriend (Cindy) who is believed to have started the fire that killed Jack's father and brothers. He eventually finds her and all hell breaks loose in his life. It a suspenseful, hot, sexy HEA that will leave you breathless and smiling.
The box set includes this book and two others that are just as good as this one. Each book is a branch off of the first one.Burns Like Fire (Dangerous Creatures Book 1) Mandy Rosko has also included a novella in the box set that is not related except that the main character is also a hunter that works for the same company that is in the other three books.
How do I know all of this? I'm an ARC reader. I received a copy of the box set in exchange for an honest and fair review.
My opinion, you would most likely enjoy this book or even the box set if you like paranormal HEA's, dragons, fire starters, electricity control, werewolves and an ice thrower!

Burns like Fire is the first novel in the Dangerous Creatures series by Mandy Rosko. Jack Marilla fell in love years ago to a fiery redhead who wasn’t what she seem and when she told him her secret he kept it and told her his in return. It doesn’t seem she was as understanding because right after he exposed who he was his family was all killed in a fire and she, a fire starter, disappears never to be seen again. Until today, today Jack has finally found her and is determined to put his evil ex, Cindy Chase, where she belongs, in a black box to be taken to jail, or wherever it is they take the paranormals once he catches them. The problem is that nothing is as it seems and as soon as he captures her the past comes back full force and he finds out things he never even thought could happen. Is Cindy truly evil or was she betrayed just as he thought he was?
This was a really good fast paced book that had action from the beginning to the end. I am hooked on this series and can’t wait to read the next two.

I read this book as part of a box set and here I am cutting and pasting my review for each individual book. This is my review of Dangerous Creatures box set, all 3 books plus a bonus novella in the Dangerous Creatures Series. I got this series set free in exchange for an honest review. This is one of the books listed in the box set. Be warned though you will not want to stop with just one book and you will want to know the whole story from start to beginning and will want to read all of them right after each other, in fact that is what I did. Despite the length it does move at a good pace and keeps you interested. I love books like this and I love it even more when they come in a nice box set. This is a good series from a good author and I suggest you try it.

1- Burns Like Fire - This is the story of Jack who had fallen in love with a woman years ago and after some deep talks his family was murdered and he thinks that the woman caused it and this is his attempt at revenge. The problem is he still cares for his mysterious love.

Burns Like Fire was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I was initially drawn to it based on the nicely done cover art and back description and I have to say that it did not disappoint. I enjoyed the well timed and intriguing plot and was able to develop a strong connection to both Jack and Cindy. The book is able to give nice summary of the important paranormal aspects of world without being full of tedious exposition explaining everything and distracting from the story. The two mains are well developed together and the build up of sexual tension made for some very powerful sex scenes. Despite some indifference I felt to the secondary characters I had a great time reading this book and am interesting in reading more from this series. I would certainly recommend Burns Like Fire to any paranormal romance fans out there.

Great story! Jack comes from a family of paranormal hunters, but falls in love with Cindy a pyro paranormal. They both confess their secrets and plan to try to make it work together...until the fire that kills Jack's family and almost kills him - that he's sure Cindy started. Two years later and Jack is out for revenge...but when they come face to face, neither can deny the past chemistry...and things start to heat up.
The characters were really well developed and we got a nice introduction to some of the characters that will be in future books in this series. There were great emotional scenes and lots of action and plenty of sexy moments. The story drew me in right away and I just couldn't put it down.
This was the first book of Mandy Rosko's that I've read and I can't wait to read more!

Got the box set Burns like fire - really enjoyed this book. Has plenty of twists and is fast moving, keeps you completely hooked. Things were not what they seem Cindy thinks Jack is dead, Jack thinks Cindy is a murderer - both are wrong.

Shock to the system - this second book in the series is just as fast paced as the first and I couldn't put it down. This book is Cindy's friend Jamie who has been caught by Ethan

As cold as ice - the third book in the series and as great as have come to expect in this series. This is a bit different change of pace as Jessica has been captured but there are still as many twists and we see the darker side of hunters.

Gonna make you howl is a novella from the same series. Gabriel comes back from the dead to save Mina and shows the hunter that not all werewolves are monsters. Good book but was disappointed was over so quick

Jack is a hunter, as his family before him was. Cindy is a paranormal he is hunting. This one is personal. He believes she is the one that burned him and his family alive in their house. She claims to be innocent, but can he believe her? He told her his secrets before, after she had disclosed hers, and look what grief that brought him. As he awaits the arrival of the ones who will take her away to the lab or wherever they take paranormals, he begins to wonder if he was wrong. This is a strong book with a lot of action and drama. It is quick-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. A couple of times I had to really pay attention to whether things happening were in the past and a flashback, or in the present and really happening. That got a little confusing.

Out for revenge for his family’s deaths, Jack Marilla finally tracks down and captures the culprit, Cindy Chase but she claims to be innocent and he’s finding it hard not to believe her in this captivating paranormal romance. The author has created a fascinating world that promises some exciting and fascinating stories with intriguing characters with interesting gifts and refreshingly different elements. The ending of Jack and Cindy’s story could have been a little better but then again their story may continue in the next book, so I will reserve judgment on that and look forward to reading it.

this is not your typical paranormal book. Its not vampires, etc.

This is the first book I have read by Mandy Rosko. I do look forward to reading more in this series.

Jack is out for revenge for the death of his family. He come from a family of paranormal hunters, that turn the paranormal to the government. He finds the person responsible for the death of his family, Cindy who is fire starter. She claims she had nothing to do with the death of his family. Cindy and Jack have a past, will that hold back Jack from finding out the truth? Is Cindy telling the truth.. that she had nothing to do with what happened to his family.

I am not a normal reader of paranormal books, but this one kept my interest with the story of Jack and Cindy. Jack came from a family of paranormal hunters. He had once loved Cindy until his family was killed in a house fire. Cindy is a fire starter and she loved Jack and thought she lost him.

Jack is seeking to avenge his families deaths. He catches Cindy, but comes to realize more about the day his father and brothers died. His friend Ethan is also a paranormal hunter and his sister Jessica is Jack's friend/ex. He also learns more about Jessica that he didn't know.

I cannot wait to read the next book.

Jack Marilla is a hunter, licenced by the government to catch paranormals. His whole family were hunters until the house was burned down around them by a pyro. A paranormal who has fire as their power. Now he has the one he believes responsible for the death of his father and brothers in his sights.
Cindy Chase can't believe the man who has caught her is alive, much less that he thinks she is a killer.
A paranormal romance with a big difference. It will have you wondering how it can possibly end happily, when they both have such reason for hate and revenge. It doesn't quite end on a HAE and does include a teaser for the next story that I am going to read now.

Adults Only Book. Great Book, with Lots of Suspense, and Some Surprises!

This book was an enjoyable read that was hard to put down for the night. There's lots of questions, doubts, and trust issues, that need to be resolved in the following book. However, in the meantime, this one has a lot of material to mull over with enough different directions that it could take, to keep anyone from being able to guess what comes next. Nicely done, and also fun and fresh, a step in the right direction, away from the typical sweetheart, paranormal, story! Thank you!
