4.5🌟 This was so cute! Always love a sports romance and really enjoyed other Ally Wiegand books I've read. Jamil has everything, a loving family, a well paying sports job and thousands of fans. However, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Alongside some family issues and the pressure of the media, can he handle it? Along comes Harper, an immensely talented sports journalist who happens to get posted at his team whilst trying to prove herself to her company and her parents...
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and didn't want to put it down! I found the whole serendipitous, coincidental encounter such a meet cute - let alone when their paths crossed again! An easy, heart warming read with 2 lovely, wholesome main characters who are both dealing with different family scenarios and difficulties in their daily life.

This is a charming and sporty romance that hits all the right notes. The story follows a compelling protagonist navigating the complexities of love and baseball, set against a backdrop that feels authentically rendered. Wiegand balances the thrill of the game with heartfelt personal moments, making it a delightful read for anyone who enjoys a blend of sports and romance. The characters are well-developed, and the plot keeps you engaged from start to finish, ensuring a satisfying conclusion
"I don't make a habit of ignoring the blessings life puts in my path."
I’ve loved the entire Chicago Heartbreakers series and have been so lucky to be an ARC Reader for the entire series.
Triple Play was about sports reporter Harper Nelson and professional baseball player Jamil Edman.
It dives into the struggles individuals people can face with their families. It discussed addiction, feeling invisible, and feeling unfulfilled in your workplace.
Was is my favourite book of the series? No. But it had arguably some of my favourite Main Characters.
I love a forced proximity, forbidden workplace romance and this was exactly that.

“I wanted to know why the guy with the biggest smile in the room looked like he carried more weight than he could manage when he walked into that bar. I wanted to know why the guy that everyone assumed had the world at his fingertips and was supposed to be so happy, was clearly not.”
"You are like the moon shining in the dark for me tonight."
"If this is one of the nicest things someone has done for you in a long time, Harper, then you haven't been around people that value you."
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC!
I normally enjoy sports romance books, which is weird as I don't care for sports. This one made me realise that I really don't care for baseball; I find it boring! Despite that, this book was enjoyable overall.
Jamil plays for the Chicago Cougars, a professional baseball team that won the World Series (don't ask me what he plays; I don't know baseball enough to remember, lol), whereas Harper works for a sports network with the goal of winning a desk seat. At the moment, she works as a field reporter (begrudgingly) but wants something more stable and rewarding, which she seems destined not to get as things constantly go wrong.
A chance encounter with Jamil in Florida for his training leads them to enjoy a night together, only for her to be assigned to report on his team a few weeks later. This is uncomfortable for her, as she wants to prove herself to her network, and all Jamil wants to do is win over the beautiful woman he hasn't been able to stop thinking about.
The only problem is that Jamil is the hot topic in the sports world - how will Harper be able to navigate working this closely to him when the media is ready to swoop?
This book had a great cast of characters outside of our main character, and I think that's because this is the third in a series. I've not read the other two, but I believe they follow different sports, so if you're a sports lover, you might want to check them out, too. Jamil himself was a sweetheart with a heart of gold, and I appreciated how much he cares for his friends and family. Harper struggled a little, but I liked how she held her integrity in what matters and worked to improve herself. Her slowly gaining a friend circle was also lovely - I can't imagine how lonely it must have been beforehand!
Despite this, I wasn't hugely engaged with the story and only gave it three stars. It was nothing against the writing, which was great, but something about the story didn't hook me in. Either way, if you want a nice little palette cleanser, love sports romances or want to check out something themed around baseball, this is a great option!
I really enjoy the Chicago Heartbreaker series and I really hope this isn’t the end. I’m assuming not since it’s ‘series’ and not ‘trilogy’ and the fact that I’ve picked up on at least two possible continuations . . . (And let me tell you, last time I had an inclining on what this book was going to be about, so!!!!).
I loved both Harper and Jamil. I loved getting to know Harper, and to see her grow in confidence in herself and where she wants to be in life. It was great to see her learn to value her skill and talent and to stick up for herself both professionally and personally.
After seeing so much of Jamil over the previous books, I loved getting more insight in to his character and what makes him tick. I loved that we got to see more of his family! I also thought that Wiegand handled Jamils brother, Jordan’s, story arc well with his addiction. As someone who is unfortunately familiar with this in their own life, I thought this was a pretty decent, yet small, representation of what it can be like living with someone who has issues with addiction.
As always, I loved seeing past characters come back in to play and have their opinions and sweet moments. Although, justice for Nora!! I was really rooting for her and Harper to become best friends and felt disappointed in the moments she was left out.
All in all, I really liked this book and I was glad that the break up conflict was handled well and with the right amount of drama. These moments in books can be make or break for me, and luckily this one didn’t shatter!
Not as strong as the first two books but still a solid, reliable sports romance that was unputdownable. Harper and Jamie have great chemistry, and I love how the found family has strengthened since the first book.
I think the big issue for me is that the plot meandered and the conflict wasn’t as sharp as it should’ve been given the set up. Any resolution to the side plots - Jamil’s struggles with fame plus his brother’s addiction and Harper’s parents who want her to follow in their footsteps – felt anti-climatic compared to the way First Base handled Tommy and Maggie’s.
I also found it really infuriating that Jamil openly flirted with her in front while she’s trying to work with everyone around including other media. Given Harper is dealing with a men’s club and men promoted over her, why would he jeopardise her job? Also, why wasn’t Harper considering the optics of being seen with Jamil at the fundraiser given she’s supposed to be chasing a story about him? Harper didn’t come off as that great a journalist if she was heavily reliant on Jamil to organise and arrange interviews with his friends (and be seen with her at them! WTF? Isn’t he this massively famous sports star whom can barely leave his house?). While I appreciate it was a sweet gesture, it made her look unqualified for the promotion she was chasing if she couldn’t even be doing the leg work to network and get the interviews.
Enjoyable sports romance with low stakes but weak on plot development.
Tropes: ⚾️ Grumpy X Sunshine ⚾️ Forced Proximity ⚾️ He Falls First
Harper is a sports reporter gunning for that big interview to give her the promotion she desperately wants. Jamil is the rising star of the Chicago Cougars and may just be the big break Harper needs ( not to mention the one night stand they had weeks earlier they’re both still hung up on) what could go wrong?
I really enjoyed Harper and Jamil’s dynamic and loved the way they supported each other with their respected struggles, Harper keeps Jamil grounded and Jamil promises to help Harpers dreams come true and shows up for her always.
Harper is my favourite FMC in this series thus far, she is independent and I admired her willingness to claw her way to a host position despite watching her nepo baby colleague get the same position handed to him (Siri play “the man” by Taylor Swift) she just didn’t give up and refused to compromise her morals to get there faster.
We also had some characters from the previous books show up which really elevated the interactions and found family vibes. Yet again Ally Wiegand has hit it out of the park ⚾️✨, such a solid sports romance with a nice depth and character development, I can’t wait for book 4 ( again I beg, Olivia and Derek 🤞🏻)
A big thank you to NetGalley and Embla Books for the ARC.
"You are the moon shining in the dark for me tonight."
After loving the first two books in the Chicago Heartbreakers series, I had high hopes for Triple Play—and it definitely delivered! Ally Wigand's writing continues to shine: easy to read, heartfelt, and filled with relatable characters navigating their own personal struggles alongside a growing romance. I really enjoyed Jamie and Harper's story. Their chemistry and emotional journey were sweet and authentic. That said, Tommy still holds the top spot in my heart 🫣🫢—but that’s just a personal preference (I do love an open door romance!). What I especially adore about this series is the consistent theme of found family. All three books beautifully showcase the deep bonds between characters, and the love and support they give each other feels so genuine.
A huge thank you to @allywigand and @netgalley for the ARC—I feel so lucky to be part of this journey! 👀 Now the real question… are we getting Derek and Olivia’s story next? Because I need it.
My Series Ratings So Far: * First Base – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ * Going for Two – ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 * Triple Play – ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Chicago heartbreakers series is by far one of my favourite book series. Triple Play is officially my absolute favourite book of the series !
I am such a big fan of the series, receiving the first two books as Arcs made me fall in love with this series in so many ways. So when I received Triple Play as an Arc I was so excited and it definitely didn't disappoint.
I absolutely loved Triple play. From the very start of the book I knew it was going to be a new favourite. The first chapter of the book sets the scene of the book so perfectly. I adore the two main characters, Harper and Jamil, I thought they were both so wholesome throughout the entire book. The chemistry between them was just perfect ! I loved the theme of found family showing the bonds between them and the characters from the rest of the series I thought it was portrayed so well.
This book definitely delivered ! It was charming, Wholesome and warm and has became one of my favourite books from the Chicago Heartbreakers series !
*Thank you Embla Books and NetGalley for providing me this Arc in return for an honest review*
⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A solid sports romance with heart, but not a home run for me
Triple Play is a charming and sporty romance that blends baseball with real emotional depth. As an ARC reader, I’ve loved following the Chicago Heartbreakers series, and while this wasn’t my favorite of the three, it still offered a lot to enjoy—especially in terms of character development.
Harper and Jamil are both compelling leads. Harper’s ambition and Jamil’s quiet vulnerability made for a great contrast, and I appreciated how Wiegand explored deeper topics like family pressure, addiction, and workplace burnout. The forced proximity and forbidden workplace romance tropes were executed well and gave the story some fun, romantic tension.
That said, the pacing felt uneven at times. The plot meandered a bit in the middle, and the central conflict didn’t land as powerfully as I hoped given how strong the emotional setup was. It felt like it needed a sharper edge to fully resonate.
Still, if you enjoy sports romance with strong emotional undercurrents, Triple Play is worth picking up. It’s not a grand slam, but it’s a solid base hit. ⚾
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
After sitting on it for a bit, I've giving this one 2 stars. It just didn't work for me. The premise had lots of potential and I love the references to the previous two couples in the series as I'd genuinely enjoyed their books, but the execution of this book was lackluster and never pulled me in.
The pacing was off and the characters weren't captivating enough to encourage me to want to keep reading which then lead to me feeling like I had to keep going just not to DNF. I really struggled to care about the characters because there wasn't much thought put into building the characters up beyond the surface. The problems the characters were given were again only visited on the surface and therefore didn't give me any emotional investment in wanting a resolution. The MMC's immediate kind of 'obsession' with the FMC was a little weird considering how their journey started too.
There was glimmers of a good story but it lacked the spark and tension that I need to keep me hooked in a romance, coming from someone who reads so much fantasy where the relationships are so much more passionate and the stakes are so much higher.
4.5 ☆ "Crossing paths again . . . now that was more than just coincidence. Maybe it was divine intervention. Maybe it was a disaster waiting to happen. Whatever it was, the universe was throwing a major wrench in my five-year plan, and it could fuck off."
"Sometimes the deepest sorrows hid behind the happiest of smiles."
I received this ARC through netgalley and was definitely excited to read it I loved both the1st and 2nd book in the series and iv not read a baseball romance in a while so I was excited to start this. As someone who hates sports its a different ball game when it comes to books😂 Jamil was an absolute sweetheart a cinnamon roll through and through harper reminded me of lottie with her work ethics and it was nice to see her navigate her budding romance with work and building a friend circle. Overall I really enjoyed this and am definitely falling back into my sport romance era p.s. the moon nickname had me swooning
Thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books and Ally Wiegand for allowing me to ARC read for ‘Triple Play.’
Love, love, loved this. This is the third book in the ‘Chicago Heartbreaker’ series, however, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
This is ‘fade to black’ spice level, and it’s done well. There was still some great chemistry between Harper and Jamil throughout. I think they make a wonderful couple.
I’ve seen some people refer to this as a ‘Grumpy x sunshine’ book, but it really isn’t. Jamil is definitely more ‘misunderstood cinnamon roll,’ and doesn’t have a bad bone in his body.
I loved the plot, and the themes of overcoming addiction/ found family/ standing up for yourself.
The ‘happily ever after’ was a nice touch. Ally’s stories always leave me feeling so fulfilled, warm and fuzzy!
⚾️ baseball player mmc ⚾️ workplace romance ⚾️ forced proximity ⚾️ grumpy x sunshine ⚾️ he falls first ⚾️ Interconnected standalones
This book is the 3rd book in The Chicago Heartbreakers series, and my first read from this author. Being that they are all standalones, I have no problem starting mid-series... and personally, I had no issues.
I enjoyed Harper and Jamil's romance. It was so sweet how they gravitated towards each other, and supported each other during the challenges that they faced. I have read a few baseball romances and this was just as enjoyable as most others.
𖹭 If you enjoy sports romance, and heart-warming romances, then this is for you.
Triple Play was such a heartwarming read! It’s the third book in the Chicago Heartbreaker series, but works perfectly as a standalone.
Harper and Jamil had great chemistry, even with the fade-to-black style romance. They made a lovely couple, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow. Jamil isn’t the usual “grumpy” love interest—he’s more of a misunderstood cinnamon roll, and honestly, so endearing. I really appreciated the themes of addiction recovery, found family, and learning to stand up for yourself. They added depth to an already sweet story.
Ally Wiegand’s books always leave me feeling warm and satisfied, and this was no exception. Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books, and Ally Wiegand for the ARC!

I've loved reading the Chicago Heartbreakers Series!
Thank you Netgalley for my eARC.
Harper (a sports reporter) and Jamil (MLB's hottest player) spend one night together where she sneaks out leaving him wanting more. They end up having to work together, to help her career and to keep aspects of his life out of the spotlight as much as possible. Tensions simmer at the forced proximity with lots of cheesy cute moments that are all in good nature.
It has a great balance of love and lightheartedness as well as tackling the big themes of addiction/found family/standing up for yourself all wrapped up in this one book.
Definitely recommend for anyone who loves Elle Kennedy, Helena Hunting or Sarah Adams.
Another fun book from this author and this series is shaping up as one of my favourite sports romance series. This is another baseball romance with two fabulous characters finding each other after a one-night stand. I specifically enjoyed the complications that these two characters faced, especially as one was career focus and one was family focused. The MMC was a fun heartwarming golden retriever, while the FMC was misunderstood but caring black cat. They made a fabulous pair and I was rooting for them the whole time. I think I would have enjoyed a little bit more of the journalism side, but the amount of sport and spice was spot on.
Big thanks to NetGalley and Ally Wiegand for a copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
** Many thanks to NetGalley for the E-arc in exchange for an honest review.** Harper reports about sports. Jamil is a famous baseball player. They meet by chance when they're both at their lowest and that's just the beginning of the story. I've read all of the Chicago Heartbreakers series and this is probably my favourite so far. Some of the dialogue veers to the wrong side of cheesy for me but I really enjoy how good natured everything is. Sure, there's some drama but it's understated and the focus is instead on found family and supporting the people you love. I would definitely read whatever Ally Wiegand brings out next.
I love this series, although I was slightly disappointed that it wasn’t Olivia’s story however I am still hoping for that next . . . Jamil is the star baseball player who is wanted for his good looks and star power rather than himself. Harper is a sports journalist who never feels good enough and is being pressured by her parents to find a better job. They meet one night when they both need a friend and think they won’t see each other again but Harper then gets transferred to cover Jamil’s games and her boss tasks her with breaking a story on him. Jamil is going through family drama with his brothers addiction and the last thing he needs is it getting out. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶️
Triple Play (Chicago Heartbreakers series) by Ally Wiegand is a great sports romance. I really enjoyed the first two books in the series so was looking forward to this one and it did not disappoint. It was a perfect short and sweet romance to read when travelling.
Summary: Sports reporter Harper gets a final career chance—until a fling with star player Jamil threatens to complicate everything professionally and emotionally.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC of this book all thoughts are my own.
This was my first foray into the authors work and whilst I really enjoy the grumpy sunshine trope along with forced proximity, the chemistry between the two characters of Harper and Jamil just felt a bit too rushed and forced for my liking and whilst the plot was intriguing the romance came across as being a bit too over the top for me as a reader. Thankyou to the author, net galley and embla books for an arc of this book.
This was a very good cosy cute sports romance, I found both of the man characters were connected and had great chemistry.
Jamil is the sweetest he is the star baseball player and has the kindest soul, I love how much he cared for his family and friends and did whatever he could to make Harper happy. The surprises, the flirting was adorable.
Harper is a sports reporting, trying to build her career and get a promotion, after meeting Jamil once, never thinking she’d meet him again, she does when she assigned to his team. The sparks are flying and the banter is fire. There are some small twists and drama but nothing too deep.
Very enjoyable, I read this as a standalone but it is part of a series. If you like sports romance, no 3 act break up, found family. This is the book for you
I always lap up any sports romance, they’re my palate cleansers the ones you know that always hit the spot the ones you don’t put down until you’ve finished them and this book was exactly what I needed! I loved how the author perfectly balanced the deeper story line with the mushy feel good romance!
harper and jamil had some chemistry and i’m happy things worked out for them in the end.
unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. i didn’t care for harper or jamil at all and found them quite boring. the first few chapters harper was insufferable with the constant whining of why she wasn’t getting promoted.
Harper and Jamil meet in Florida and have a one night stand thinking the will never meet again. Jamil is a baseball player and harper has a new job of being a field reporter. This story follows the lives of Harper and Jamil and their family. This book is heartwarming and a good sport romance. Thank you to the publisher and net galley for allowing me to read this
Thank you netgalley and Ally Wiegand for this arc!! I am an absolute sucker for sports romance and this one hit all the right places. Jamil and Harper were the best ever one night stand turn lovers ever !!! Some heavy topics in this book yet was done with such class!! Can’t wait to go back and read the first book!
Harper and Jamil meet in a bar one night, neither sharing who they really are, so when she is reporting on his games he is surprised to see her. She needs a promotion and can he help her get there? I liked how it was told from both points of view.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A cute romance with a baseball background. Harper and Jamil meet, then he goes back to the city he is based in. Then Harper gets transferred there and their paths cross again. Overall an easy and enjoyable read.
