Queen of the Night: The Black Tulip Chronicles

Rate this book
A king risking all for his kingdom. A woman in hiding with the magic he needs. When duty requires betrayal… which side do you choose?

Vera

It’s not easy being a Black Tulip… masquerading as an Originator so I’m not murdered by the kings. All I want is to escape the secrets I’m buried in—but that requires money. So when my handsome bounty offers me a tempting contract that pays so well it could set me free… I can’t resist accepting.

I simply need to help find a magic flower for the king, survive the savage shadow monsters, and return home without falling further for the man I don’t fully trust. I prepared myself for the dangers found on the journey, but nothing prepares me for the moment I find out who my bounty really is…

Ikar

I search for two things to save my a woman marked as a Black Tulip, and the black tulip flower that will bridge our magic. Sounds simple… except I can’t find either one, time is running out, and my heart is at risk of being captured by a woman I can never have.

I contracted Vera to join my team as an Originator to search for the flower, but the secrets and forbidden feelings between us threaten to destroy our already perilous mission. It’s not long before we’re forced to confront the truth behind the many secrets we carry when a formidable enemy arises that we never saw coming.

Queen of the Night is the second book in a no-spice, slow-burn, enemies-to-loves epic fantasy romance series for fans of Shari Tapscott and Kenley Davidson.

Since I loved the first book in this duology, I had high hopes for Queen of the Night. I'm happy to say that it exceeded my expectations! I swooned, I laughed, and my heart pounded. This is everything I wanted in a no-spice, epic adult romantasy. I honestly think the writing was even better, too. The story progressed well, and I enjoyed the push and pull between the FMC and the MMC. It kept me up late in the night, because I had to know what was going to happen next. I also liked learning a little more about the world the story is set in. The last 100 pages were the best part for me, and I thought everything wrapped up nicely. I would reread these books! I can't wait for future books in The Black Tulip Chronicles.

I received an eARC for a review.

Spice level: kisses only, lots of attraction
Content/trigger warnings: I can't think of anything other than what you can typically expect from epic fantasy (fighting, stabbing, etc.)

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was honored to be given an early ARC for this book and I’m so incredibly grateful to Kaylee for allowing me to take part in this amazing world she has created.

The INSANE amount of tension I felt during this book was so unreal. My nerves have never been shot this much while reading a book 😂 There is a ton of suspense and a lot of secrets that are revealed that really keep you hooked!

Kaylee’s way of world building continues to amaze me. She introduces new aspects of this world and the way she writes it makes you feel like you’re right there next to the characters.

I’m honestly SO glad this is a duology because I don’t think I could have hung onto a cliff hanger at the end of this book 😅 the last 30% was so intense but the resolve was beautiful and so well done.

Get your hands on this ASAP! You won’t regret it! 💜

I absolutely loved this book!! I loved book 1, Bounty Hunter and this was the perfect end of The Black Tulips duology! It picks up right where we ended on the cliff hanger of book 1 and we’re instantly taken on another adventure. I love Vera and Ikar and enjoyed watching how their relationship progressed ☺️👏🏻
The beginning was alittle frustrating because one of the characters was extremely stubborn (I still loved them 😅) and I was just yelling at them to finally share their secrets and identities and live happily ever after! 😂
Kaylee’s writing and the worlds she creates are so amazing and I can’t wait to read whatever she shares next!!
I also can’t forget my character Rupi and how much humor she brought to the story! 😍😂😭

A stunning conclusion to a stunning duology. Full of adventure, mishaps, and romance! I think I enjoyed this one even more than Bounty Hunter. The world building is not hard to follow, but it’s also very well thought out and weaves together perfectly from Bounty Hunter to Queen of the Night. The romance is a slow burn, but when it burns it burns (yes, it’s possible without the spice🤭).

Thank you, Kaylee Jarvis, for the ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I got the chance to get an ARC of this book!

I loved this duology so much! As someone who enjoys fantasy books, this book marked a lot of my boxes. It also had unique magic system which I enjoyed. Highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy fantasy read or who is just getting into fantasy!

I also love that this series is completely clean with no explicit content!

Eeekkk This was so so good!! I can’t say as much as I want about this book because… spoilers, but just know it hit some favorite tropes of mine and did them well!!

I loved getting the next part of Ikar and Vera’s story and all the hidden identity fun continues! That tension and slow burn romance 🔥🔥🔥 and those proclamations of love 🥹 You get big feels all around from the chemistry, the longing, the slow burn burning, and the sacrifices they make along the way.

The plot is top tier with political intrigue, not knowing who to really trust, new enemies, and working with the one she’s supposed to stay away from.
I really enjoyed how the new enemy came into play and how it added to Ikar and Vera being drawn together. Against all odds and against the betrayal, they keep finding a way to each other.

Thank you, Kaylee Jarvis, for the opportunity to read your book early! This was a wild ride of fantastical adventures, and definitely reminded me of LOTR with the spider scene! #ifykyk Nasty spiders! I bet this one in another world would be besties with Shelob. I loved the world-building and different kingdoms. The descriptions were fascinating!

However, I will say that Vera and Ikar’s romance was, in my opinion, a little rushed. I wished there were more moments between the two and I really wanted to throttle Vera sometimes. I didn’t like how wishy washy she was—first she’s mistrustful, but then fully trusts him when Ikar is supposedly dead, and then when she is reunited with him, she goes back to being slightly distrustful? Come on, girl—I get her struggle in the beginning to trust him and the ingrained mistrust she was taught to feel towards the King, but Ikar’s actions continually disproved her. The constant battle of trust felt a little drawn out, and I would have liked to see more relationship building between the two, as their personalities meshed and their relationship evolved throughout the story. I still loved their characters though! The concepts behind their actions/beliefs fit well with the story, I only wish we had more character development!

Also, I felt like Renton was kinda abruptly thrown in. I wished he had shown up/had more of a presence within the Duology to make his villainous character shine. Still, I think he was an awesome villain and I loved the ancient narcissist line! Sums up all narcissistic people to be honest—they want what THEY want, even at the cost of those they supposedly love.

Overall, I enjoyed the world-building and the epic journey with pitfalls and highs of saving the kingdom of Moneyre. I would recommend this book if you’re looking for an epic romance with unique world-building, interesting characters, banter, and slow-burning romance!

⚔️ The vibes:
- Forced proximity
- Fantasy
- Slowwwww burn
- Hidden identities
- Book two in duology
- Closed door

⚔️ My thoughts:
Ok. Most of this review will be for the duology as a whole because I need this to be on your radar with no spoilers.

⚔️ I loved that book 2 immediately got moving from the start, picking up immediately where book 1 left off. The pace did not let up, and I love to see that in a duology.

⚔️ I was so stressed out with the hidden identities in the best way. I was like the genie yelling “tell her the truth!!!” It felt deeper than just a simple conversation though, because the reasons for the hidden identities made complete sense to me. The slow and painful pace of revealing the truth made sense here because the stakes were so freaking high.

⚔️ The action scenes had me on the edge of my seat. They were SO GOOD. The fighting scenes and the creatures that the group is fighting throughout the duology were so well done.

⚔️ I love the group of four on this adventure. [Names redacted] and our main characters all together were some of my favorite scenes. The bonds between the friend group was my favorite, and their dynamic made the journey such a fun one.

⚔️ The slow burn between Vera and Ikar across the duology is so delicious, y’all. These two brush hands and I’m screaming. Kaylee Jarvis writes the tension so freaking well.

⚔️ The ending of book 2 felt a bit rushed for me, and I was trying to connect a lot of dots there at the end, but overall this duology is such a win, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

This book blew me away. The tension, the slow-burn, the swoon, the secrets, the sacrifices - all of it. From the first to the last page I was drawn into a magnificent fantasy world and fast-paced story.

I adored the MMC, Ikar. As a warrior king, he is strong, fierce, intelligent, witty, courageous, loyal, protective, and honorable. He is a true gentleman and has a heart of gold. 💛

I loved the FMC, Vera. She is scrappy, independent, fierce, stubborn, loyal, clever, and also protective. Together, she and Ikar are a powerhouse.

It was so fun to watch their relationship progress and by progress, I mean go through an entire rollercoaster full of challenges, secrets, conflicting feelings, forbidden love, and a special mate bond that may or may not have come from a bottle. 🤭

If you are looking for a PG romantasy with no spice and no profanity, I highly recommend this fantasy duology.

Queen of the Night is book 2 in a duology; book 1 is The Bounty Hunter. 💜 You really must read book 1 first or nothing will make sense. 🥰

I absolutely love this duology! #theblacktulipchronicles

Expect:
💜 Enemies to more
💜 Protective MMC
💜 Forbidden love
💜 Hidden identities
💜 Happy ending

💋 Kisses only, occasional shirtless men
🚫 No profanity
⚔️ PG violence

⚠️ Content: fight against creatures & masters of darkness (gloam), prisoners, political intrigue, wars, casualties & fatalities, hand to hand combat (knives, daggers, swords), occasional blood, orphans, betrayals

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just finished this book and ahhhhhh it was SOOOOOO GOOOD!!!! 👏👏👏👏

So much about it was absolutely masterful. The way the secrets were threaded through—always on the edge of unraveling—kept me hooked the entire time. The tension lasted WAY longer than I expected, and it all felt completely believable. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

And the world-building! The descriptions were so vivid and immersive. I usually skim over that kind of detail, but this time I could see everything so clearly. It was cinematic in the best way.

The subplots with Tatania and Nadiette and the other side characters were excellent. Darvy, Rhosse, Mama Tina, and Jethonan were so fun. And, of course, Rupi is one of the best animals in fiction EVER. Love that little bird. I can’t wait for the next duology in this world!

The ending was so, so, so satisfying. Truly masterful storytelling. One of my top reads of the year!

I have eagerly awaited the release of Queen of the Night. Vera and Ikar's story was left unfinished, and I wanted to see if Vera could get over her fear and mistrust in the 2nd book.

This book did not disappoint. The story continues as Ikar races to save his kingdom, and Vera does her best to distance herself from him.

I really enjoyed the premise...having read hundreds of books (not exaggerating here), this storyline was a fresh one. And what had me frustrated the most, which was Vera's inability to acknowledge her feelings and trust herself and Ikar, also lent to the story because the characters didn't shallowly fall for each other and then live happily ever after. There was struggle and doubt.

Honestly though, I was not impressed with the lack of strength of character in Vera because she was so wishy washy at times. I also wish there was more depth in Vera and Ikar's character developments. For example (spoiler alert) with Tatiana's betrayal, I could see it coming from the first time we meet her in book one. Yet Vera's reaction to it and the effect that it has on her takes up minimal space in the book. This is one example, but there are several. That's why I give this 4 star rating.

Overall, this is a good read and I do recommend it for fans of closed door fantasy romance. I am thankful to have received an ARC copy and look forward to more books by Kaylee.

Such a stunning conclusion to this duology and so excited that we get to continue in the world that Kaylee has created.

I loved not only the banter between Ikar and Vera but also all those in the traveling party. I loved the mystery, suspense and the world building.

Ikar had a heart of gold and I loved seeing Vera let her guard slowly down and see who he really was. I also loved seeing them not only fight their attraction to each other but the many battles they had to handle too.

Kaylee definitely nailed the forbidden romance trope with all the tension and longing you could ever want.

I will definitely continue to be a Kaylee Jarvis fan and already counting down to her next book.

I hate to say it but I really didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first. The main character was just so naive for a lot of the book in ways that just didn’t make sense. Along with that, I wish the author hadn’t been so married to so many of her scenes because there were so many times I felt like things were dragging or didn’t need to be a part of the story. There was a huge plot hole near the end of the book that really irritated me too. I’m still giving it three stars because I do like the characters and their motivations for the most part even if things didn’t feel as polished as the first book.

I AM OBSESSED. I LOVED the first book, but I think I like the second better! The story was fun and you learned more about the world as you were in it, as opposed to just info dropping. I loved the plot and genuinely only have good things to say. (Well I guess it could have been longer, but that’s my opinion on many books)

My favorite part about this book was yearning and pining without the spice! Vera and Ikar are so cute and I loved watching their story unfold! It was also cool to see some side characters we met in book one be fleshed out!

Im so impressed with Kaylee Jarvis and I cannot wait to see what she dreams up next!!

I loved this book!

Plot- The love story between Vera and Ikar has just as many twists and turns as the incredible adventure the couple is on. Great pace and full of fun and funny details that I love. I appreciated the descriptive writing detailing clothing, surrounding, buildings, and landscapes that enriched the storyline so much. Fight/ war scenes are masterfully written and full of tension- but not icky or drawn out. Loved it.

Setting- LOVED it! can I move to this world? I love how many kingdoms there were to explore in both parts of this duology. Queen of the Night introduced the nymph kingdom that was so dreamy and ethereal- perfection.

Characters- This one caught me off guard in the best way. Loved Vera and Ikar, Mama Tina, etc from the Bounty Hunter, but I absolutely fell in love with so many of the characters involved in this book. Darvy absolutely MUST make an appearance in the next duologies 😄. Also I somehow both love and hate all minor antagonists. I love the complexity of the characters and the way they take responsibility for bad choices across the board.

I can't wait for the next duology!

I was super excited to recieve an ARC copy for this book! I loved Bounty Hunter, and Queen of the Night was the perfect sequal to Vera and Ikars' story. I sacrificed sleep reading this because the story kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to know what happened!

I was impressed with the character development and love Vera and Ikar even more, if that's possible. I also love the imagery in this book and really felt like I could visualize their world.

This whole series is definitely one of my favorites, and this sequel did not disappoint. I think anyone who loves good tension and banter, hidden identities, high-stakes, a unique magic system, and fated mates will love this book!

~Arc Review~

Book 1 (Bounty Hunter) already had so much tension between Ikar & Vera but this book is incredible. Kaylee does an amazing job at writing an intense slow burn along with such a creative story full of action, magic, & dangerous creatures. The last 15% of this book is absolutely nail-biting & the suspense of trying to figure out what was going to happen & who was still going to be alive with very few pages left was borderline agony. Bounty Hunter is an awesome start to fall in love with this story, but Queen of the Night is a top tier intense conclusion for these two. I hope the next duology is Drade & Renna, but I also want more Darvy! I love the side characters almost as much as our main two, so I will love any of them who get to be our main focus next 😍.

4.5 ⭐

I really enjoyed the second book in The Tulip Chronicles and appreciated how the author expanded the world and continued the characters’ journey. My main concerns centered on the pacing—both of the plot and the romance.

For me, the story’s momentum felt uneven. The first sixty percent of the book focuses on the group’s journey to find Lucentia and the black tulip. This section moves more slowly, but I didn’t mind the steady pace. My primary concern comes to the final third, where several major plot events are introduced and resolved quickly. The shift in pace feels abrupt, and the ending comes across as rushed compared to the more deliberate build-up earlier. The story would have benefited from at least another hundred pages to fully develop and resolve those final events!

For those who care, the romance in this book remained closed-door. However, there is more on-page kissing and a stronger sense of desire than in the first book.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and look forward to future installments in the series. I hope we get to more of Vera’s tulip sisters and other characters from the first two books!

~A king risking all for his kingdom. A woman in hiding with the magic he needs. When duty requires betrayal... which side do you choose?

“She draws me like a moth to a flame, and I fear I’m going to end up scorched.”

-My friends, Queen of the Night is the second book in a no-spice, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers epic fantasy. Truly, the great world-building, magic, enchanted weapons, battles, laugh out loud moments and complex, relatable endearing characters melted my heart along such a journey with all the feels. I thoroughly loved how there is plenty of sparking romance with lots of sizzle and NO spice, and no over-the-top gore filled so precisely within this captivating story. But, It is so much more! It’s an emotional rollercoaster journey filled with humor, heart, and depth that leads to such a beautiful, satisfying ending! I loved watching characters both have struggles yet, it’s the small choices they choose to make, that make all the difference. Their character growth was simply fantastic and seeing what they can do together, in risking and sacrificing everything for love, was perfect. There is just so much to love within! Absolutely worth the captivating and thrilling read, anytime!👌📚💜✨

I have been waiting for this final book since last year, and let me say that the wait is worth it—especially that I get to read on Rupi (yaaaay!) and indulge in her cuteness. But on a serious note, my heart was literally fluttering left and right when I started reading this one. 💜

I do not want to spoil on what happened, the scenes and chapters that got me so giddy as this book is set to be released tomorrow and I want readers to be on a roller coaster of emotions as they journey with Ikar, Vera, and Rupi. I do know (which I know everyone knows) that this book will end in a happily ever after, but the journey to the end, the complex circumstances, the other more characters that will be introduced or given a backstory, and the action-packed adventures across the kingdom, and the push and pull of our main characters, AAAAAHHHH, that is the journey that I know readers will be pulled back to their seats and you know, finish this book in one sitting because it just gives you that pull to turn to the next page and journey to adventure, redemption, and love—lots and lots of it.

I am amazed at how the author was able to tie up book 1 and this one, the attention to detail, and providing us with a massive field of butterflies in our stomach with the push and pull of our MCs, they stares—the look! The look of loveeee. My gooosh. I have been reading plenty of books in the past where it’s all spice and rated 18 genre (lol). But who would have thought that I’ll thoroughly enjoy this No Spice genre game. I believe a huge part of it was the writing, which is really really great. It allows you to be in love with the characters, root for them so hard, and be patient (as well) as they journey, fall in love, and be freed.

WAS THE WAIT FOR THIS BOOK WORTH IT? DEFINITELY YESSS!!! 🙌
I look forward to reading more of your books to come, Ms. Kaylee. Thank you for giving the us the world of Ikar and Vera.

💜💜💜

PS. I received this books as a eARC. Thank you for allowing me to review and be one of the first to know how it ends. After its official release, I shall add on some specific reviews especially to some of the characters and the likes. I just don’t want to spoil too much and want readers to enjoy this book without biased or spoilers. Love lots!!!

Wow! This sequel and end of the duology was absolutely amazing and satisfying. I loved the first book and the sequel was even better. Epic quest and adventure, sweet moments, lots of character healing and growth, and slow-burn kisses only romance. Anytime the word "scoundrel" is used, you know its going to be a good time! I lost plenty of sleep and willingly woke up early to finish the story (and I am NOT a morning person).

One of favorite part was knowing more as the reader than the characters do and watching them put the pieces together. I mean, what are the chances you'd meet a high king there? *looking at you Vera* But the reader in no means knows everything either! There are plenty of twists and turns, and what I initially thought would be the ending was actually the middle of the book. Kaylee was not done yet, and I was so happy there was more to the story!

The character growth of Vera and Ikar is amazing. They both have their struggles: Vera with trusting other, and listening to her intuition/observations over other peoples opinions and Ikar with his duty versus what he wants. Both struggle with breaking free of the mistakes of others in the past and starting down a new, better path for the future.

Two of my favorite, no context non-spolier quotes:

- It's sort of gross but really sweet.
- My mother used to tell me that being tempted doesn't make you who you are; it's the choices that we make.

All of the characters were amazing and the side characters really added to the story. Rupi, sassy little fluff ball of a bird, is absolutely the MVP! I really hope we get to learn more of her in future books!

Thank you to Kaylee for the ARC and the opportunity to read it asap!

Ok, I'll admit, that for as much as I loved this book and the satisfying ending, I spent a great deal of the book frustrated beyond belief. Vera and Ikar spend so much of the journey still unaware of what each is to the other. And when Vera finds out, well in less spoilery terms, old wounds/fears run deep. As for Ikar, I can forgive the frustration I felt for him even with all the evidence, because of Vera's bracelet tricking his magic. But I desperately wanted to know how Renton always seemed to know where Vera was even after her misadventures in escaping. That wasn't entirely explained. I think what was most frustrating is that Vera still viewed herself as weak throughout much of the book when she was anything but. And perhaps that was more Tatiana's fault than anything else, that kind of conditioning is hard to break free from. It was just terribly inconvenient during a number of scenes where she could've used her lucent to free herself and... didn't.
I will say that I LOVE the side characters and would love to read more about them. Darvy and Rosse are by far my favorites, and to have more about them in the future would be amazing. Especially with the brief info drop on Darvy and his mate bound knowledge, and a particular, nameless female he fears. What!?
But overall, I did very much like this book and all the twisty twists, hilarious banter, and battle scenes . and let's not forget the smoldering romantic tension. Honestly, I'd also be here for a possible Drade/Petra match in the next Duology? I'm totally guessing here, but there could be another enemies to lovers, or a grumpy/sunshine instead.

Either way, I'm excited to see what's next, and this book was definitely worth the read if you loved the first one!

I was gifted this ARC in exchanges for an honest review z

WOW, this book y’all was a whirlwind of emotions! Oh my gosh from the beginning to the end I was literally stressed, biting my fingernails, screaming at the page. From beginning to end this book was a ride! Oh my gosh I just felt every character had so much depth they were all thoughtfully crafted even down to the creatures and animals, I genuinely am amazed at how Jarvis crafts this world! Every single character I was fond of. I’m not gonna lie for a second I was even liking Renton, lol like dang that’s some good writing I like the villain? I wasn’t rooting for him but idk something bout him haha he was a likable villain.

My girl Rupi, the star of the show. I just love her so much like there’s no better anima sidekick! I loved this book so much, I do feel this second book was less about the romance. Idk how to describe the book was very plot heavy which I loved so much, but the romance was definitely bit the forefront, which is fine, but with how the first novel ended I just wished for there to be a bit more of that yearning a bit more. I did also think the ending felt a bit rushed. The novel was very long and drawn out and everything was taken its time, but the last act seemed to rush and POVs shifted extremely fast. Again nothing that affected my reading or enjoyment of the book but I think slowing down a bit and more of that romantic tension fleshed out would’ve knocked it out of the park. Absolutely though going to be one of my favorite fantasy series I promise you that!

I’m not even quite sure where to start other than Queen of the Night was fantastic! Kaylee Jarvis continues the epic adventure of Ikar and Vera from Bounty Hunter in the Black Tulip Chronicles duology. The tension, the secrets, the adventures, the romance, and the loyalty continues. Ikar and Vera face more danger and in turn become closer. They both struggle, Vera with trusting and Ikar with duty over want. But as they traverse through their journey they grow and heal, they begin to trust, decide what truly matters, and they fight for it. I really enjoyed the battle between light and dark in Queen of the Night, there is always two sides to a coin. The pull between right and wrong is a struggle at times and you see it as a character fights it internally a bit. The twists and betrayals were monumental. I love all the side characters – Rupi, Darvy, and Rhosse are my favorites! I really did love everything about Queen of the Night and I would highly recommend reading this duology if you are wanting adventure, secrets, battles, great world building, betrayal, conquering darkness, and a love that pulls at your heart!

Some of my favorite things:
- The magic
- Mate bond and dreams
- Friendship between Ikar, Darvy, &Rhosse
- Rupi’s loyalty and bravery
- The field of tulips
- The nymphs and “treehouse”
- Revealing of hidden identities
- The epic final battle

Tropes: Epic fantasy = Slow burn tension = forced proximity = high stake adventure = enemies to more = touch her and die = hidden identities = swoony kisses

Happy reading!

I was worried that the slow burn vibes wouldn’t carry over to book two, but I was delightfully mistaken. We still get lots of forced proximity and it had me so invested in the romance.

We get to see more of the world building, and I’m so glad that there is going to be more books following some of the other characters. There are quite a few I want to get their own book. (Renna, Drade, Darvy, Rhosse, Jethonan 👀, heck I’d even read a redemption book for Nadiette)

I adored Ikar even more than in book one!

But Vera….by the half way point her logic and reasoning were so flawed that it got painful to read. I wish her character would have went a different way, maybe choose to investigate stuff herself, especially when she kept getting more information and evidence that what she was taught was not correct. Her stubbornness in book one was endearing, and really in the beginning of book two it was not bad, but by the half way mark I was so frustrated with her, and it became unbelievable that she would be that naive…..but it all worked out in the end.

Even with my issues with Vera, the romance between her and Ikar was so romantic! It carried me through any frustrations I had.

I liked the ending, but things seemed a bit rushed. I wish Renton would have played a bigger part throughout the whole story, and maybe less focus on Vera making the wrong choice and more on what was going on outside of Vera and the group.

But all and all I still very much enjoyed Queen of the Night, and I am so excited to read more by this author.

Queen of the Night is the second book in Kaylee Jarvis’s epic fantasy romance series, releasing November 7. We weren’t sure it was possible, but this sequel is even better than the first!

We follow a king willing to risk everything for his kingdom. But the woman meant to help him on his quest is hiding a massive secret…she possesses the very magic he desperately needs. How do you navigate love and trust when it defies everything you've ever been taught? And if duty demands betrayal, which side do you choose?

You will find:
Dual POV (We love the continued back-and-forth between our main characters)
Secret Identities (When will it all unravel? 👀)
Slow burn (Tension in the plot and between the characters)
Kingdom Intrigue (Threats to the throne come from more than one direction)
Animal Companion (Rupi plays an even bigger role and we LOVE it!)

Our thoughts:
Swoony Romance: 4/5 A painfully slow burn with the perfect push and pull, banter, and camaraderie
Language: 0/5
Favorite Character: Still Ikar…how can you not love him!
Favorite Side Character(s): Darvy and Rhosse, the steadfast and loyal friends everyone wishes they had
World Building: The world, creatures, and magic system continue to be described in a way that we felt we were right there.
Favorite quote: “Whether in reality or dreams, I’ll always come back for you.”

Please give us Drade and Renna next!!!

Where to begin…I was thrilled to receive an ARC of this book! A pretty good span of time passed since I read my last romantacy novel. After finding and reading Bounty Hunter I was hooked and couldn’t wait to get my hands on book two! I love Kaylee Jarvis’ writing style and the world she created in Bounty Hunter.

Moving forward with Queen of the Night: The Black Tulip Chronicles, without spoiling anything, Kaylee did not disappoint! I’m so happy with how the book began. If you’ve read Bounty Hunter and intend to read Queen of the Night, you will understand what I’m saying. I love that this a slow burn, no spice romantacy, and it kept me on the edge of my seat more than once! Great plot twist by the way! I loved seeing the characters from Bounty Hunter, especially Ikar, Vera, and of course one of my favorite characters Rupi! I really need a shirt with Rupi giving the side-eye.

If you loved Bounty Hunter you will love Queen of the Night! This review is so hard to do because I don’t want to give any spoilers accidentally. Watching the characters grow was one of my favorite parts about this book 🥹 Here is what you will find.

💜 Slow Burn
🖤 Action-Packed
💜 No spice
🖤 Enemies to Lovers
💜 Character Driven

🖤 You Won’t be Able to Put it Down!
💜 Instant Reread
🖤 Highly Recommend!
💜 Good Banter
🖤 Laugh Out Loud Moments

Kaylee Jarvis, thank you so much for this series! I can’t wait to read more!
