*Lavender Lake* by Emma Slate is an absolute gem of a small-town romance—sweet, steamy, emotional, and completely addictive. Set in the charming town of Huckleberry Hills, the story follows 23-year-old Salem as she returns home after her father’s accident, only to find her life spiraling into a whirlwind of secrets, second chances, and unexpected love.
What starts as a one-night stand during a flight layover quickly becomes so much more when Salem discovers that the mysterious, irresistible man she spent the night with is actually her twin sister’s fiancé’s best friend, Cas Bowman. The chemistry between them is electric from the start, and their secret relationship adds the perfect amount of tension and excitement. This series is top tier. The first book in this series, Huckleberry Hill, does such a wonderful job building the ‘small town’ vibes that are at the center of these books.
The story continues with Hadley’s wild child twin sister Salem. Salem is a force of nature that has deep rooted trauma that finally reaches its limit. We know from book one that she has been avoiding coming home from her fast-paced New York life. But when a life changing accident involving her dad takes place, Salem has no choice but to come home and face her ghosts.
I love how serendipitous Salem’s meeting is with Cas. They are both wandering souls that finally find home in each other. Cas is really the perfect counterpart for Salem. He knows exactly what she needs, send knows how to calm her tumultuous emotions. I felt like they really healed each other, and helped each other work through what was holding them down. It also was such an amazing bonus that we got to see so much of Hadley and Declan, and see how the sisters really interact with each other when they are together in person. I loved this book so much and cannot wait for the next one!!

Could not put this book down. This is becoming one of my favourite cowboy series and will be on my reread list.
You have got a one night stand, turn forbidden romance, with meddling family and friends who will always be there. Plus a motorbike riding cowboy.
In this book it is the FMC that struggles with her feelings due to her past and she has to fight and overcome her own mind and it is down to a couple of turns and events that help her get her head straight.
Emma writes in a way that just pulls you in and you are left wanting more. The first book I read from her was Wreck and Ruin and I have never been disappointed by anything I have read.
The only criticism I have is that ending made me want the next book now!

I am loving this series! Salem, Hadley’s twin sister flies home after their dad’s accident and for Hadley’s wedding. On the way she has a one night stand with a man she meets at the hotel the night before her flight who turns out to be Cass Bowman the best man! Hadley is feisty and mouthy and I loved the banter between them! This book took me on an emotional roller coaster ride in the best way!
This audiobook was narrated in multi cast narration by Stephanie Rose and Troy Duran who did an amazing job narrating Cass and Salem. In addition to narrators Vanessa Moyen, Raven Wildewood and Rebecca Brokaw-Sands. I felt they were all perfectly cast for this audiobook and did such a great job bringing these characters to life!

Oki now that I got that out of the way. Let's talk Lavender Lake.
First, I want to give a huge thank you to Emma Slate herself for letting me be an ARC for this amazing book.
I have now read 10 Slate books, and I can say with full confidence not a single one has disappointed me and especially not this one. If you love banter, broody men, spunky spicy woman, and found family this is the book for you. I personally would say the banter is better than Lights Out and Caught Up, and the spice is spicing. I felt like a hormonal teenage girl the whole time reading this book smiling and kicking my feet and of course the occasional beet red blush across my cheeks. This book made me feel all sorts of feelings from happy for the characters, to angry with the characters, and being able to relate to the sad bits it's all woven together so beautifully. If you haven't read any of Emma Slates books yet go do it right now, get off this page and go do I'm so serious I promise you won't regret it.
Salem is your misunderstood girl who lost the one person she ever truly felt safe with, who turned into a fiercely protective and sassy woman who gives everyone a run for their money. Until one day a man comes into her life. A man who can handle her attitude and isn't scared to throw her over his shoulder if and when be. When no one else gets Salem or hears her screaming for help here comes Cas who with one look at Salem has her figured out. Her Knight in shining armor or in this case a crazy bull rider who gets a thrill out of taming a wild beast.
No matter how hard they try to stay away to protect those around them, they just seem to keep ending up together.

Emma Slate has become one of my favorite modern romance writers. She is the only one who has been able to write insta love stories that don’t make me want to barf. (Tessa Bailey, take note)
Her male characters are top tier, she writes bad ass female characters and really creates a whole world with fully developed characters from the main ones to even the smallest parts.
I just can’t get enough. Already waiting on pins and needles for the next in the series. Like I need a whole book on Muddy alone pls.

I was very excited to receive my first ARC and this book did not disappoint! 4/5⭐️, 3/5🌶️ A cowboy romance at its finest. The banter, the sass, the tension - all made for a quick, fun read. I enjoyed Hadley and Declan’s story in book 1, but Salem and Cas were another level. Salem’s bullish personality was super funny and relatable, and the way Cas was so patient made me swoon 🥰. Looking forward to Poet’s story next!

I liked Cas and I loved how protective Salem was of Hadley but why is therapy a 4 letter word? Salem should have been in therapy so much. Also I do not love that it was basically the same plot as Huckleberry Hill. I’m sure my dislike of surprise pregnancy plays into it but it just seemed so unnecessary for her to get pregnant out of nowhere. With Hadley it made sense since infertility was a plot point but here it just seemed like it was being slotted in because there wasn’t anything else to do.

A fun, steamy return to Lavender Lake. Salem and Cas’s one-night-stand-turned-forbidden romance had all the small-town charm and banter I loved from Huckleberry Hill. The family drama and near-death scare upped the emotional stakes, and their happy ending felt earned. Familiar contemporary romance beats, but Emma Slate’s dialogue keeps it fresh and fun. Perfect if you’ve read book one already.

This is my ALC review of this story. This is a new to me author and series. Went into the story with an open mind story takes place around sister's wedding. I felt the main female character was so childish and pulled temper tantrums when she's in her 20s. I'm not a big fan of surprise pregnancy in a story thought I'd give it a go. I feel as though the story fell very flat for me. It didn't want me listening for more. I felt very drowned when I listened to it personally I think they could've done better. I'm not sure why the female character had to keep everything a secret when everybody basically knew granted yes I understand she didn't want to ruin her sister's wedding. They were also supposed to be twins, and I don't feel as though I got the vibe of the girls being twins. Narration was great little tough to distinguish the different male parts but overall I enjoyed the lesson. It was an OK story.

Once again Emma did not disappoint. The FMC Salem and MMC Cas start as a one night stand during a flight layover. Little did they know they were heading to the same place to see the same people. Cas is a motorcycle riding cowboy who’s also a bull rider. He’s also Salems twin sister Hadley’s fiancés best friend. They try and avoid the tension between them but it turns into them having a secret relationship with one another. It’s not just spice between the two they truly help and heal each other.
Muddy (I had this as an ALC so not sure the correct spelling of her name) is still my favorite character in this series. She never disappoints and I just love her. She is funny and she knows everything, nothing gets past her. This series is becoming one of my favorites. With both books so far I just couldn’t stop listening. I absolutely loved listening to the audio of Lavender Lake! The characters were so easy to connect with — and the narrators brought them to life in the best way. The small‑town charm is there with a little ranch life to boot. Such a fun, cozy listen. I am so invested in this group of family and friends and can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Lavender Lake follows Cas and Salem, and I have to say… Salem completely surprised me.
If you asked me after the first book how I felt about her, she probably would’ve been one of my least favorite characters. But Emma Slate completely changed my perspective. Salem is complicated in the best way. She isn’t rude or immature like she’s often perceived—she’s a young woman carrying an overwhelming amount of grief after losing the one person she felt truly understood her. She feels everything so deeply, and watching her learn how to process those emotions was one of my favorite character arcs I’ve read in a while. By the end of this book, Salem had easily become one of my favorite characters in the series.
Then there’s Cas. Our bull rider is the definition of a cinnamon roll hero. Because of his upbringing and life on the rodeo circuit, everyone assumes he’s not the settling-down type. But the moment Salem walks into his life, everything changes. He never tries to fix herhe simply loves her, supports her, and gives her a safe place to feel. Watching him patiently help Salem navigate her emotions without ever making her feel “too much” was honestly beautiful.
The chemistry between these two was fantastic, the pacing kept me engaged from beginning to end, and I loved how naturally the age-gap romance developed. By the end, you hardly even notice it because of how much Salem grows throughout the story.
My only critique is that Salem occasionally came across as a little immature, which made a few moments frustrating. However, considering she’s only in her early twenties and dealing with so much unresolved grief, her growth throughout the novel made those moments worthwhile.
The audiobook was phenomenal. This all-star cast absolutely brought these characters to life, and Troy Duran was incredible as always. If you’re an audiobook lover, I definitely recommend experiencing this story in audio.

Oh, I am really enjoying this series. I love that there is no misunderstanding.-why-don't-you-just-talk-to-each-other nonsense. I love the great friendships. I love the town. Good book. I can't wait for the next one.

Salem and Cas’ story was all I hoped it would be and more! From one night stand, to forced proximity to secret relationship, AND surprise pregnancy?! I loved Cas from the minute we meet him, and I loved how they found a home with each other. I really enjoyed their story. I must say Stephanie Rose and Troy Duran really brought the book to life and let’s not forget Raven Wildewood, Rebecca Brokaw-Sands and Vanessa Moyen they really made this a great audiobook! 10/10 recommend!

Salem and Cas have such great chemistry and banter and I especially loved the tension and forbidden vibes between them. The moment she realizes who he is was so good, especially in audio!! I thought our narrators did such a good job with all the different emotions in this book.

This was a really fun small town cowboy romance. The banter was great and I love how Cas just went with the flow and was all about her and her whirl wind personality through it all. It was just all around a really sweet story and great narration on the audiobook.

Unfortunately while there are many things to like about this book, for me, it was just okay.
Salem needs to go home to Huckleberry Hill, Idaho because her twin sister is getting married. She has an anonymous one night stand in a hotel during her layover with a guy who turns out to be her future brother in law’s best friend, Bowman - who is also on his way to Huckleberry Hill for the wedding. Of course, things are going to get messy between the hot tempered New Yorker and the strong willed pro bull rider.
Having read Huckleberry Hill, the first book of this series, I was already familiar with this cute little mountain town and its inhabitants. I really liked how many of them are featured in this book, particularly Hadley and Declan, the MCs form the first book have large roles. However, I found the storyline for this book too similar to the first one. Both revolve around a girl going home to her small town, falling for a rodeo rider she isn’t supposed to be with, going to a town festival and getting pregnant unexpectedly (I don’t feel like this is a spoiler since “surprise pregnancy” is listed as a trope and in the trigger warnings). While the twins’ personalities are very different, the stories are very much the same.
The cast in the this Duet style Multi Cast audiobook does a great job. Having Vanessa Moyen back as Hadley really helped with continuity in the series. And Stephanie Rose now steps into the female lead as Salem with great humor and vulnerability. Troy Duran does a lot of work, not only as Bowman, but every other male character. His quiet strength and confidence as always a great addition. Rebecca Brokaw-Sands and Raven Wildewood round out the cast of supporting female narrators.
Again, there is nothing wrong with this book and I would probably have enjoyed it more if I had more time in between listening to this and the previous book in the series, but for me they were just too repetitive. I will however, come back for the next book which I am assuming will feature one of the twins’ roommates from New York.

Like I've mentioned I'm a bit behind on my ARC reading and Lavender Lake by @emmaslateauthor is such a book. It's the second book in Saddles and spurs series. This book is about Salem who returns home partly because of her twin sisters upcoming wedding but mostly because their dad is in the hospital for a brain injury. On the layover between New York and Huckleberry Hill she meets a stranger in a bar, they hook up and she sneaks out in the morning. When she gets to the plane home, the man from the night before sits next to her. After a short conversation with disastrous outcome it's revealed that Bowman is a famous bull rider and the Best man for her sisters wedding.
I loved this book, Bowman was hot and so understanding when Salem's emotions about everything from her dad in the hospital and the revelation that he has a girlfriend to just being back at the ranch overwhelms her and when she is fighting the attraction towards Bowman he is steadfast.

I LOVED this book. Salem and Cas were so perfect for each other!
Salem belongs to the world, always wanting to discover new places and chase new adventures. Cas is loyal, charismatic, and like Salem, he also loves new places and new experiences — but what he longs for most is a place to call home and the chance to build his own family.
I absolutely loved Salem and Cas. They were exactly what the other needed, and even though their relationship is a little unconventional, they worked really well together. I also loved that they learned the hardest parts of each other’s lives first and, by the end, chose the simpler things.
Even though I enjoyed this book, I felt Hadley and Declan were a big part of it too. Sometimes it didn’t even feel like it was Salem’s book because so many scenes revolved around Hadley and Declan or their feelings. And Declan and Hadley meddling in Salem and Cas’s lives honestly pissed me off.
I also felt like Salem’s story was slightly incomplete. We learn a lot about her relationship with her deceased mother, but I never really understood why she and her father weren’t on speaking terms. And I would’ve loved to see more of her and Jane actually getting to know each other.
But overall, this was a really great book, and I can’t wait for what’s next in this series. Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read this book beforehand.

Oh Salem I just love her. we meet Salem in Huckleberry Hill with her been Hadley's twin. She is the black sheep if the family and isn't a free spirit and just getting her life on the right track. What she didnt expect is the sexy bull rider that she had a ONS with and it now sat next to her on a plane is actually her soon to be brother in laws best friend and things have just got a lot more complicated and secrets are about to come to light.
Her family's Ranch and small town has never been where Salem wanted to be but now it Cas staying there to help out Salem is ready to leave her New York life behind and settle down and be the person she didn't think she could be. Cas is willing to give up the circuit and been there with Salem he finally has the family he's never had before.
I love how much Cas matched Salems energy, her completely understood her and just got her vibe.

Lavender Lake is easily becoming one of my favorites in the Saddles & Spur series.
It has some of my absolute comfort tropes — accidental pregnancy, small-town life, ranch setting, a bull-rider MMC — and the author delivered them so beautifully.
Salem and Bowman’s connection felt natural and deeply emotional. I especially loved how the author portrayed Salem’s personal struggles with so much care, and how Bowman consistently met her where she was. Their dynamic was tender, steady, and so easy to root for.
Muddy was another standout for me — such a warm, grounding presence. And the side characters genuinely added to the story instead of overshadowing it.
This is a solid 4.5-star read, and I definitely recommend it.

i feel like i didn’t connect with this one as much as the first one but still loved it and had so much fun. i was so happy to be back in huckleberry hill, and visit all of the incredible characters again. i really love salem, she’s such a complex character and has many flaws yet so relatable. this book had me in all my emotions, this one felt a bit more character focused than romance focused but i honestly really love that. and don’t get me wrong i loved the romance (what can i say, i love small towns and accidental pregnancy). emma slate’s writing is so addictive and easy to binge. i can’t wait for the next installments!!

Oh. My. Gosh. This book. First, I want to thank Emma Slate for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this book! I’m so honored! Wow. This story had me hooked from the first page. Salem and Cas’s story had me feeling all the feels. I laughed out loud at their banter, cried at the touching and painful moments, and was breathless with anticipation through the twists and turns with them. Emma Slate has this beautiful way of writing such complex characters and emotions that you truly feel everything right along with them. I’m so in love with this series and the stunning characters in it. I cannot wait for the next book!

Wow! I love Salem, she is complex, has reasons for her actions, and misunderstood. Cas sees Salem, he is not afraid to push back. He is one tough bull rider.
Both our main characters are loners, but together they melt the kindle! Cass sees that Salem is struggling and changes his rodeos to follow her circuit, swoon. Together they work through the pasts. Lots of emotions run through this story, but each is necessary to move the story forward.
I am ready for the next book!

Okay so I received an ALC copy of this and WOW...WOW. The banter and angst was on point. The baby bombshell at the sister's wedding! Did not see that coming. I enjoy this book more then I did book 1.
The female main character was one I could relate to. She has this drive to be a people pleaser. To make sure others are happy first and then herself at some point.
The male main character is like your typical man, bullheaded and stubborn but for his woman he is a big old teddy bear.

Once again Emma blew my mind! I absolutely loved Cas and Salem’s story. I love how grumpy Salem was and by the end I loved out she worked through everything. And of course how big of a simp Cas was ;)
