When Kate was summoned to Mr. Reed’s office, her thoughts immediately went to the project she had just finished. She was anticipating a decent raise and/or a promotion. Unfortunately, she was being let go due to the recent downsizing in the company. Her friend Emma was very sympathetic and offered to help her get through this rough patch. Emma “was swimming in money” as well as “inheriting a portion of her dad’s bougie company.” Emma’s offer embarrassed Kate, not that she blamed Emma, she was only trying to help her friend.
Kate phones buzzed with an incoming email that read “Congratulations, Katherine Monroe…” was this a scam, was someone trying to pull a fast one on her? She hadn’t applied for a job. Maybe she had been scouted by them. CEI wasn’t the type of company to search for employees. Emma looked them up online and quickly put her phone away. What did she find out that she didn’t want Kate to know about?
Kate arrived at CEI nervous and unsure of herself. Margo handed her a stack of papers detailing the project she would be working on. Kate was also informed that she would “be working alongside our CEO and founder, Mr. King.” As soon as she heard the voice, her first reaction was to flee. That voice was unmistakable and as he turned around, her instincts were right on point. As Nate turned around, she came face-to-face with her “ex-lover and the guy who would now” be signing her paychecks. Nate had not arranged this job; he trusted Margo to pursue recruits from the shortlisted group. Word traveled quickly around the office about who she was. There was a bet that she might last a week.
The two of them had dated in high school and “had been voted most likely to get married, on top of the honor of snagging King and Queen.” How was Kate going to handle this predicament? Could the two of them possibly work together after what happened between them? Is she seeing anyone or married? Will Kate be able to contribute to her job? Will she be seen as favored when co-workers discover she has dated the CEO? Will old feelings pop up? Will Kate be able to handle the frustrations of the job and her co-workers?

This 4.5 star rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads was a totally delightful read. I rarely read office romances even if there is a billionaire CEO involved so this was definitely something different for me. I truly enjoyed everything about this book. The characters were all wonderful and written exceptionally well. The conversations were realistic and the reader could feel the emotions in the words. I found myself chuckling to myself on more than a few occasions so this book had it all...drama, romance, comedy and a little mystery. This was my first Zara Grey book and I look forward to reading many more of hers. I am happy to recommend this book as I think other readers will definitely find it worthwhile. I would like to say thank you for the ARC of this book that I received and all opinions left are my own.

I really enjoyed reading this second chance romance which takes place when Kate is hired at a new company. Imagine her surprise when she meets the CEO she will be working with and he is the one she was in love with in high school. He had moved away suddenly and it broke her heart. So she works with him but it is obvious she holds a bit of a grudge towards him. Nate starts out being pretty much the worst boss you can imagine but he has been hurt in the past himself so is cautious. Kate is a sweet and strong survivor whom I admire although I think she is harsher towards him than she could be. This is a clean story with interesting characters and well-written. I loved the ending.

The story revolves around the working relationship of Nate and Kate. The characters are both reticent about getting involved and reviving past feelings or hurts. Kate strives throughout the story to move past her inadequacies whilst Nate has some business that needs to be addressed. The twists and turns are embellished with humour and a sub plot that unravels is also addressed. This story has some strong characters and whilst there were points where it could have been developed more, it was an easy and enjoyable read.

Just slightly off track for a minute. I couldn't make up my mind what James' intentions were. Manipulative or just condescending until Lily appeared on the scene, but back to the highlight. Nate and Kate had met at school, a disappearance and then she appears for an interview a few years down the track.
Not just a sweet clean romance, but add a sprinkling of espionage, business rivals for a contract, but a calm book to take you through the day. The characters did all the stress for us.

Ghosting probably wasn’t the correct word when Nathaniel King abruptly stopped communicating with Kate Monroe after high school, then it was just heartbreaking, unexpected, and demoralizing. After 15 years, Kate has built a career as a marketing expert but suddenly finds herself unemployed. This leads to a surprise employment by said Nathaniel King, now a tech billionaire, new “friends”, corporate espionage, romance, humor, and few twists and surprises. I totally enjoyed this book
