The Crawfords’ “miracle baby” Ava is not like other newborns. Her screams are louder and shriller. She’s always hungry and refuses the bottle. And there’s something about her eyes that makes you want to jump off the nearest rooftop.
Maybe Miranda shouldn’t have given into her increasingly disturbing pregnancy cravings...
"Hardcore body horror that will have you squirming in your seat as you compulsively devour chapter after chapter. If you aren't pro-choice, you will be after reading this book!" —James Oliver, author of Genital Rot and Children of the Gore
"Hush, Little Nightmare is drenched in angst and dread; each page heightens the trepidation. This is a wild ride, the way only Oscar can take you on, and I'll get in every time." —Lesley Camphouse, author of Apex Prey and Ingest Me
"Oscar Brady's Hush, Little Nightmare is the meat below the sloughed-off skin of your average suburban household. This book doesn't just peel back the layers, it opens them up while delivering body horror and social commentary that latches on and doesnt let go. Absolutely diabolical." —R.J. Powell, author of Dollface and Vasectomy
""FEAST UPON MY EYES FOR I NEED TO BE BLINDED, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! CERTIFIED INSANITY!" —Rob Nelson, author of Made a Monster
“Oscar Brady doesn’t miss. Hush, Little Nightmare is a brutal lullaby for anyone who’s ever feared their child might be something... else. This evil baby will haunt your dreams — and maybe your nursery.” —Ryan Danley, Another Goddamn Horror Podcast
“Oscar Brady transforms the chaos of new parenthood into a chilling horror. Told with eerie detachment, this foreboding tale blurs the line between exhaustion and madness, where every cry might be a warning. It's like Rosemary's Baby on f*cking steroids!" —Sierra Waff, author of I'll Prey for You
This splatterpunk novella is a body horror creature feature that contains graphic extreme horror elements not for the faint of heart. You've been warned!
I’m convinced every single one of his books will be 5⭐️ This was perfection. Gross, unique.. I loved the timelines and how everything went back and forth. The chicken 🤢 omg so good!!! Perfect for all Moms 😉
A plunge into the disorienting horror of early parenthood. Told through a detached third-person lens, the story captures the alienation, fear, and creeping madness that can come with caring for a new baby, but it doesn’t stop there. Beneath the diapers and lullabies is something far more unsettling.
Brady’s strength lies in his ability to evoke dread. As a seasoned parent, he taps into the all-too-familiar rhythms of a new parent but twists them into moments laced with unease. Every detail feels loaded, every room claustrophobic, every cry like a warning.
It’s uncanny and foreboding. What if the thing you’re supposed to love most is what’s unraveling you?
Reason #5367 why I will never have children of my own. A fetus actually IS a parasite.
Miranda and Jonah’s marriage has been rocky for a little while now. But a terrible accusation from their daughter’s friend puts everything on millimeters thin ice.
Miranda and Jonah go out to dinner for their anniversary, and Miranda is distant the whole time because her daughter told her of the accusation that morning. But she chooses not to be direct with him about it, and their anniversary carries on with plenty of alcohol, and a mostly forgotten bedroom encounter.
A couple weeks go by, and the result of that encounter starts to make itself known by way of terrible morning sickness. Miranda is pregnant with their third child at 38 years old. A high risk pregnancy.
As things progress, Miranda starts to have some increasingly alarming cravings that she tries to not give into, until she is told that the fetus isn’t developing properly. And being the great mom that she knows she is, she gives in to it all… for the welfare of her baby. And it is NASTY.
When the baby is born, it sets off a chain of death and mortal injury surrounding their family, including Miranda nearly hemorrhaging on the birthing bed.
Baby Ava has a shriek that is much louder than your average baby, she won’t take a bottle, she will only nurse, she has eyes that have a way of just making people want to yeet themselves into oblivion.
I really appreciated the way that Oscar approached the current political climate surrounding abortion access in this story. It wasn’t the only message to be gotten, but it was certainly front and center.
Firstly the trigger warnings word search 👌🏻 perfect touch 🤣 secondly THIS WAS CRAZY!!
Miranda & Jonah thought they were done having children but it would turn out, a vasectomy isn’t 100% fool proof & another little angel (or should I say devil) is on the way! Her cravings came thick & fast, but not for your regular donuts & takeaways but for meat…raw meat…and raw chicken…and errrm animals 🤢 like this is totally normal? 👀
Anywaaay, after a traumatic labour little Ava is here to complete the family & as useless as Jonah is, Miranda is happy to be back home with her bundle of joy. That is until anything left with the bundle of joy ends up dying & it all seems to get a bit weird 🫣
Well this was all kinds of crazy to say the least!! I didn’t know what direction it was going to go in but my god I didn’t expect it 😱 Oscar you have totally now ruined chicken for me too, alongside corn & beef sandwiches 🤢 also the deer 🦌🫣 dude whyyyyyy 😂
Another brilliant read from Brady, I have not been disappointed yet 👌🏻 check the triggers!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This review was written while reading cause....gawd dawg...
Please read all information on the trigger warning page, especially the author's note.
Jonah and Miranda have welcomed their 3rd child, Ava, into the world. Ava is about to show everyone that not all babies are sweet.
I spent too much money purchasing meat this weekend. Now, those recipes I had with chicken have been ruined. I will never look at chicken the same. The cookies were almost tossed after the grocery store scene.
I'm at a loss right now. Do I chuckle or cover my mouth in disgust? Miranda hits the lottery with her discovery on a ride home after hanging with friends. That's all I'm gonna say😐.
Note to self and others: Do not eat chocolate chia pudding when reading! I almost found out what it feels like to bring chia seeds back up. I'm lucky I didn't decide on rice pudding😬
I thought that I could handle reading gory details and descriptions. I have dry heaved several times. I'm not sure if I can thug it out right now.
Oh my lawd!! What in the entire a** am I reading? I had to take another break cause.....whooooooo. I used to think squeaks were cute....now, I'm kinda traumatized.
I was grabbed by the urethra and sucked in before I got to the 5th page of this story. Hush Little Nightmare was filled with blood, guts, and gore. There's sex scenes that will have you doing kegels inadvertently. Again, do not eat while reading this unless you can yell thug life while eating food scraps from the kitchen sink drain on Thanksgiving. This may be my favorite Oscar Brady book. Enjoyable and entertaining read.
What in the world did I just read? 👀 It was gross, vividly disturbing and raunchy AF! I will always love a good Oscar Brady book!
I WAS A CHARACTER IN THE BOOK! ❤️ As a character in the book, I was cringing with the very dramatic description of my fate in this story! Hehehehe it was twisted…Thank you for this opportunity to be a character! It was super cool!! 😎
Trigger alert…the last meal I guess you would say 😳NOPE! Nice job!
Ava’s no normal baby, and Miranda had anything but a normal pregnancy.
Miranda finds herself insatiable for raw meat. It’s the only thing her baby wants. Raw meat and lots of it. Miranda goes to extreme lengths to get her hands on meat because supermarket cuts just aren’t cutting it for her anymore.
This story unfolds once Ava is born and we realise she is far from a normal newborn. This story opened up into a creature feature of horror and gore!
I didn’t see the ending coming at all. Oscar ramped up the tension, anxiety and suspense to the max!
And that dedication felt so personal as I can personally relate.
If you think all babies are cute, you better start thinking twice. Nothing is normal with this baby, starting off with a miracle pregnancy, followed by a craving of raw meat. Needless to say, you’re in for a very uncomfortable and gruesome ride, and the driver is a newborn.
And it all starts with Miranda and Jonah. This couple had decided that they wouldn’t have any more kids, but not even a vasectomy was able to stop baby Ava from coming to this world and creating havoc. She was still in her mum’s belly and was already demanding some very special food, and after being born, nothing nor anyone is safe from her constant hunger.
This little nightmare will not only creep you out, but it also delivers some gut wrenching scenes that will make you sleep with one eye open! A very gory and unsettling story that culminates in an unexpected ending that will make you wonder what comes next!
… and a very quick mention to the trigger warnings word search. I hadn’t even started the book yet and was already entertained! It’s just brilliant!
Miranda and Jonah are having their third baby, Ava, who was a surprise to them both and had some complications along the way. Miranda's cravings were... odd. And the baby she birthed after such a strange pregnancy is... odder. But surely its just that she's tired, as all new mothers are.
This was a TRIP! It's so rare to find splatterpunk that's as well written as this. I enjoyed every page. This book was full of very real, personal nightmares for me (as someone who is tokophobic) but that just added fuel to the fire, somehow it was not triggering even when scenes about my specific fears came up.
I loved Ollie, he was such a sweet kid. I usually find children in books somewhat hard to relate to as they're written in such a detached way, but Ollie was very adorable and innocent, while also being absolutely right in all the circumstances surrounding Ava.
I hated one character, in particular, and was VERY happy when Ava did what Ava does and got them off page. 10/10 little baby-thing. I do think this character is written in order for the reader to have someone to hate, I can't imagine they were supposed to be likeable.
The ending, or the scenes just before the very end, as the action came to a crescendo, were satisfying, if bizarre. Jonah's final scene, in particular, gave me a sort of disgust-fuelled giggle. And then that snap ending was *PERFECT*.
The trigger warnings at the beginning of this one should not be skipped if you're even a little sensitive to, well, almost everything? But if you can handle the triggers, this is well worth the read!
This is told from a third-person perspective, but each chapter focuses on a different moment in the story, and it made me angsty; the dread was dripping from the pages.
So, we follow this family of four when Miranda, the mom, unexpectedly becomes pregnant. Everyone is happy, but the pregnancy has its... challenges... Miranda does depraved things to keep her little spawn happy and healthy. A deer people... after the bear, Oscar went after the deer... and a dog.
That wasn't even the wildest part, no, that was just the beginning, an appetizer. Then baby Ava is born, now this is where it gets WILD. Mom and Dad...
You know what... I'm going to stop here. Experience this one for yourself, it'll soak you in anxiety and loads of "wtf", but it's so worth it.
Honestly how do I describe this book 🤣 Chilling but lowkey traumatizing 🤣but thrilling enough to keep you flipping through every page with egagerness of what’s going to happen next. You might think that Oscar Brady took it a bit too far with certian topics but my question for you is did you read the trigger warnings?!👀🤨🤣 Cause if not go back and re-evaluate 🤣🤣 but truly love this story you get four 🥶’s for actually giving me some chills but also for writing an amazing short story 🖤🤣 You’ll want to read Hush Little Nightmare if you like thrillers with a bit horror and book that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Oscar Brady has a way of keeping a story short but far from sweet🥰🤣. Thank you for an eARC!
In support of Indie authors, I began reading this book. I mistakenly thought it was a thriller book. Turns out, it is 'Splatter Punk' Extremely elicit gore. It was my first ( and last) in this genre. With that being said, I did enjoy the story plot and twists at the end. If this is your genre, I think you'd enjoy the storyline.
This is the meat below the sloughed-off skin of your average suburban household. Hush Little Nightmare doesnt just peel back the layers, it opens them up while delivering body horror and social commentary that latches on and doesnt let go. Absolutely diabolical. Way to go, Oscar!
Let's face it: if Oscar Brady writes it, I'm reading it. Hush, Little Nightmares is utterly disgusting and doesn't disappoint! It was definitely a page-turner; I couldn't put the book down. The mother's love in this book is beautiful. Highly recommend!
Hardcore body horror that will have you squirming in your seat as you compulsively devour chapter after chapter. If you aren’t pro-choice, you will be after reading this book!
