Handcuffs and Hexes

Rate this book
What’s worse than waking up in the hospital with the mother of all concussions? Finding out the guy sent to care for me is the same too-sexy-for-his-own-good wizard who stole my flipping cruiser!

Cocky, powerful, and a shameless flirt, Seth is everything I hate. So why do my knees turn to jelly every time he calls me a cutesy nickname? Ugh! Why, oh why, do I have a weakness for chiseled abs and piercings? It’s not like he’s even available! And to complicate things even more, I find Seth’s equally sexy and even sweeter demon lover, Liam, just as irresistible.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, I agree to a casual fling. Nothing more. But when they both turn their charms on me, I realize I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

But our unconventional secret arrangement isn’t the only thing threatening to tear my world apart. A giant mind-controlling, wizard-devouring portal has opened up in Darlington, threatening to consume the entire city, maybe even the entire world.
Will we be able to destroy it before it turns Seth against us? And how will I ever pick up the pieces when everything is over?

Handcuffs and Hexes is a sweet and steamy standalone paranormal romance featuring a black cat wizard, his golden retriever demon, and the sexy officer who gets between them… literally. HEA guaranteed.

Seth & Liam’s story

I loved that the demon and wizard have their own story with the cop that Seth enjoyed teasing. The other characters are mentioned, I would’ve loved a little more Grayson, but still sweet that Rockwell brothers were in. Spicy, throuple so all drama and spice! The drama could’ve gone a little deeper but I tend to go dark so this was a good balance.

Honestly a lot better than I thought it would be. The writing could use some improving and I think there’s definitely some potential to make it better. But I definitely enjoyed it. I did have thoughts going into it that it would was going to be super smutty but it really wasn’t, there was still a good amount of plot. I loved both MMC’s. Was also a little disappointed that we didn’t actually get the hot tub scene but oh well.

Every time I start one of Maggie’s books, I ask the same questions: Will this book be the best yet? Will I fall in love with another book boyfriend? Will I see some of my favorite characters from previous books? The answer is always YES.

Wizard Seth and his demon love Liam aren’t new characters but we finally get their story with this book. Police officer Hazel (Sarah) Cooley has popped up here and there before but here we get to know her as well. Years ago, Seth freed Liam from forced servitude to his family, but as the two had fallen in love, Liam stayed with Seth. Seth still bears the mental scars of growing up with his wizard father, a domineering, power-hungry elitist.

In this novel, a portal has suddenly opened in the magical town of Darlington and is drawing male magic-wielders like a siren. As more men sacrifice themselves, it grows. Seth can hear its dark promises even when he’s asleep and is determined to find a way to close it without falling victim himself. Hazel is injured trying to save a wizard from jumping in, and as Seth and Liam have been crushing on her for a long time, they jump at the chance to become her caretakers. Hazel is very unhappy to be temporarily under their roof, especially given her inconvenient crush on the two men who are already in a longtime relationship (and thus off-limits to her), but if Seth and Liam have their way, she’ll stay with them forever. Provided that the whole town doesn’t fall into the rapidly expanding portal, of course.

I’ve read all the books in this series and love every single one of them, so I didn’t need a fortune-teller to know I’d enjoy this one too. Because they’d only been side characters in previous books, I wasn’t sure where Seth and Liam would fall on the smexy-meter, but man, after getting some alone time with them, I can confirm they’re on the smoking-hot level 🔥. The two together? Blazing 🔥🔥. Them (alone and as a duo) with Hazel? Nuclear meltdown 🥵. I loved getting to know them and how they overcame difficult pasts. It felt like this book had a bit less action, but the heat was cranked up and I was here for it. I’ll be also be there for every book Maggie writes.

I'm just going to say it... I didn't care for the MFC. Hazel reminded me of one of those little dogs that barks at everything to show how tough they are. Okay, so that was a little mean. She wasn't quite that bad, but she did irk me. Liam was so sweet. He was a doll. Seth was surprising. Behind that cocky mask, he's more complex and complicated than most realize. Liam and Seth are mated and the cutest thing I've ever seen. They have a complex relationship that's playful, loving, and adventurous, and now they're open to a third.

Gods, I do love the forced proximity troupe. It forces the characters to open up and feel things, and I want all the feels. Due to circumstances, Hazel (better known as Office Cooley throughout the series) has to stay with them. Things don't start smoothly, but they eventually click, and things are good. Then everything blows up. Who knew that between the punky and powerful wizard, the demon that was bound in servitude for generations, and the human specialty task force cop, it would be the demon who was the most emotionally stable in the bunch? Ha! Hazel and Seth are so much alike that they can't help but bump heads. It was bound to happen. Neither are properly equipped to handle any emotions, let alone their own. I was just waiting for the big blowup.

Obviously I enjoyed the romance, but the plot was just as good. I think Maggie may be looking at too many Instagram posts about all the sinkholes opening everywhere. I know I am. Darlington has its very own sinkhole. Only it's more like a portal to Hell that's eating the city's citizens. Can't give too much away, but it was a good mystery with a slightly spooky element. I didn't know if all those little plot bunnies would be wrapped up. Maggie left things hanging until the very last moment, but she pulled through. Handcuffs and Hexes ended perfectly.

I don’t know. I feel like every book after the first couple I read in this series have been lacking…something. I can’t tell if that’s because I was in a very specific mood for those first books or if they’re actually not as good, though.
Either way, I just wanted more relationship development in this. It definitely felt like Hazel was just an add on to Seth and Liam’s relationship and I didn’t love that.

More!

My only complaint is that it went too fast. The speed made it feel disjointed and not as satisfying but I still love this series and am so glad Seth and Liam got a book.

Seth is always intriguing as a side character, so reading his book with Liam and Hazel was fun and sweet as the rest of the series.

Hazel or Sarah as she is called by her colleagues is a cop in a village inhabited by all types of magical creatures such as shifters, demons, mages, sirens, wizards and witches to name a few.

Having lost her father at a relatively young age, she was practically raised by her paternal grandparents and the grandfather was a cop. He is the one who interested Hazel Sarah in the professional aspect of the peace keeping occupation. She transfered from her previous position, in a normal town to her current location as her grandparents passed away and they left her land and a house there. In addition, there was no problem for her integrating the local police force as the chief was a good friend of her grandfather.

Seth is a wizard/witch with enormous powers who used to sit on the council with his despised father but now works for the local dragon in charge as well as the EA, a federal agency tasked to enforce the rules governing the use of magic on earth.

One situation makes him laugh a lot. When officer Sarah is on the same call as he is and he gets to needle her to the point where she gets in a rage and tries to verbally dress him down. He even went as far as stealing her police cruiser at one time thus creating a situation where she faced a mountain of paperwork to fill out in addition to being needled by her colleagues.

Liam is a demon who was liberated by Seth from Seth's own father . A relationship came out of that situation and, now, they live together.

The author has written a very good story that grips the reader from the start and turns out to be a page turner that I recommend and award 5 Stars.

4 &1\2 Terrific 🌟's for Handcuffs and Hexes🌟🔥💖

I love Darlington and its magic and monsters this universe is so well written and fun. The characters are well developed and every time you go back to Darlington you feel like your visiting old friends. In this book its our residents bad boy warlock Seth and his demon other half Liam. We seen both of these flamboyant characters since the first book. One rocks the goth vibe the other a preppy one both don't unlike to many rules and don't suffer fools gladly. They love each other madly but still feel something is missing. Enter Hazel is one of the local officers of Darlington. She was born here but not raised she returned several years ago and love the town. She often works with the EA and the most annoyingly shmexy handsome warlock Seth. She absolutely hated s that she's attracted to both him and Liam and tries to stay away. A case and an injury bring them closer together than they've ever been before. You learn that there is so much more to all 3 of these characters and how they fit perfectly together. But misunderstanding, hurt feeling and a portal from another dimension threaten the love that is building between them. You have to read and find out what happens its a perfect before bedtime read . loved every minute and I can't wait for the next adventure.🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. This was a fun adventure with some mystery, suspense, and danger. I loved Seth, Liam, and Hazel. And I love even more that Seth and Liam were in a committed and established relationship from the start, rather than forming one after both wanting to be with Hazel. I admit Liam is my favorite character. I liked the dynamic between the three of them and the chemistry was scorching. I really liked the supporting characters as well. The humor made me laugh, like this interaction:

'He picked it up and frowned. Then he leveled an eye at me.
Oh shit. I knew that look.
“What the hell did you do?”
Damn, that manticore. Did he blab?
“I dipped my toe in,” I admitted.
“You what?!” Seth yelled.
Oh boy.
“I got it back.”
“But what if you didn’t?”
“It’ll grow back.”
“What if something pulled you in?”
“Nothing pulled me in.”
“And what if the hole grew just as you touched it and swallowed you whole?”
“It didn’t. I’m fine.”
We had a short stare-off, and at the end, he pulled me over and kissed my forehead. “Don’t do stupid shit.”

I could just see Hazel sitting there grinning and munching on popcorn- or in this case perfectly charred bacon (just the way I like it too, Liam!)- with her eyes darting back and forth between them like a tennis match. 5 stars.

Maggie Mayhem books have me falling in love with the characters as well as finding humor in the banter. I am not usually into MFM stories but have loved all her other books so thought I would give it a try. Liam is a sweet sappy demon who I fell in love with because of his caring ways with Hazel, Seth, and others. Seth is a great wizard/witch with many powers who has been in love with Liam and now Hazel. Hazel is with the police but has been sent to many calls related to magic. She has never realized that she has extra capabilities that have come from her grandfather. This story finds Hazel finding her roots with the house her grandparents had left her as well as joining with Seth, Liam, and other from the previous books in this series to fight a persuasive sinkhole that is swallowing up male wizards in an attempt to gain power. In this book, I loved that the three main characters had to become introspective in their lives in order to come together into a mutual relationship. There were some heart tugging moments as well as laughter throughout the book. I loved the pet names that Liam and Seth were coming up with for Hazel!.

I love this series. Each book is a standalone with a wonderful HEA.
We learn about Seth and Liam in previous stories. I love their story/past. It goes more in depth in this story.
POV of Seth, Liam and Hazel progressing the story. I loved the humor, the nicknames they gave Hazel (especially the ones Seth gave her) and Seth's "punishment" for what he deemed undermining him or if Liam was "bossy" was very interesting.
This is a story that has a three some, so if that isn't for you ,please don' read it. To me it was well written including the romance. Seth is so protective of Liam and then Hazel. They did have a few issues to resolve and of course dealing with Seth's father. Also the Breach.
They have lots of fires to put out.
I also liked that the story mentions previous characters. How they helped them with different situations. You do not need to read previous stories to enjoy this one, but why would you not.
Can't wait to see who will be next to get their HEA.

In this installment, we finally get a closer look at Liam and Seth's relationship. Added to the mix is Officer Cooley(Hazel/Sarah).
Hazel ends up under the care of the Liam and Seth after getting blasted by magic. I like that this was a multiple povs. It helped to understand these characters that we have only gotten glimpses of in past books.
There were some cameos from characters of previous books.
I don't normally read RH books, but I wanted to continue following Darlington. This triad did not change my mind. It seemed like Seth was the primary reason for bringing Hazel in and Liam was along for the ride. All the way to the end, it didn't seem like there was love between Hazel and Seth and Hazel and Liam. As she stated she was "in like". They seemed like really close friends who share intimate times and slept in the same bed.
Throughout there are hints of her magic, but it didn't go anywhere really.
I liked the epilogue, several years into the future.

And Hazel makes three…

“And if she was the one, we’d make sure she’d be so happy she’d never want to leave.”

An engaging, captivating storyline that has danger and lots of passion. Seth is a Demon who left the Wizard’s Elder Council and now works for Desmond, Darlington’s resident Dragon. Liam is his Demon husband but they desire to settle down as a triad with the right woman. When Seth is sent to investigate a new magic portal (nicknamed The Breach), both their paths merge with Hazel, a human police officer who is more than she seems. She is attracted to them but due to her parents’ rocky relationship, is reluctant to take a chance on them. As they draw closer and discover a love of a lifetime, The Breach starts to become more dangerous and it will take all three together to fight it and find their happiness.

I absolutely love Maggie Mayhems books, and Handcuffs and Hexes did not disappoint! This is such a sweet and steamy standalone paranormal romance with a wonderfully unique twist. You’ve got Seth, a black cat wizard, his golden retriever demon, Liam (who totally stole my heart), and Hazel, the sexy female officer. The chemistry among these characters is off the charts, and the banter had me smiling all the way through.

The story is just so much fun—full of magic, flirtation, and a perfect blend of heat and humor. I especially appreciated that the author delivered a satisfying HEA (happily ever after), which made me love it even more. If you enjoy paranormal romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still brings all the feels, definitely give this one a try. Highly recommend!.

Seth and Liam and Hazel … oh my!! Seth has been a thorn in Officer Cooley’s side for quite a while now. Foreplay. All of it. When she’s hurt on the job, Seth makes sure that he and Liam are the ones tasked with taking care of her. I love the sweet relationship between Seth and Liam, and adding Hazel [Sarah/Sweetcheeks/Hazy Daisy/Babygirl] is just like caramel and ice cream on top. Can you tell I love all of the super sweet nicknames the guys have for her. Adorable. As with the previous awesome Maggie Mayhem books, we see several previous characters in this book. Desmon the dragon, of course. But also Elena, Seth’s mom - who is finally free; along with several other couples. Such a sweet, fun, heartfelt story for this trio. And the epilogue was great. Can’t wait for more from this author.

I love the series of stories taking place in Darlington. The writing and the world building are excellent, and I've enjoyed all of the characters. The MCs and secondary characters in this book are no exception. Liam is a sweet hunky demon who likes to keep his loved ones happy. Seth is a powerful wizard with a thirst for revenge where his father is concerned, but he is caring and protective of his partners. Hazel is a strong-willed cop who needs to learn that it's okay if others help her. Together, they are passionate and supportive of each other; it seems to be a threesome that works. I also love the mystery surrounding the sinkhole that is growing in the centre of town. This page-turner kept me up long past my bedtime.

I really enjoyed this instalment in the possessive monsters series. It was nice to have the mmf trope introduced. The FMC is introduced in previous books and it was nice to hear her story and background. It was also nice to get the story on the two MMCs who also made appearances in previous books. The story itself is sweet with a bit of angst and quite a bit of character development despite it being on the shorter side. The dynamic of the main relationship between all three characters works well, and the concerns of the FMC are very relatable. Overall she is relatable. The narrators worked extremely well together, and the distinct voices helped to give depth to each of the characters' personalities. I hope there will be more books that feature a multi male interest. This one was done very well.

I'm DNFing about halfway through this book despite having read all the other books in this series, and I created a Goodreads account just to review it because I was so shook at what a high rating it has.

1) Too much time spent on the guys thinking about things or telling us their past; it's trying to stuff a whole extra book's worth of lore into the first half of this book, zzzzzz
2) Was looking forward to enemies to lovers (at least on Hazel's POV with Seth) but she instantly switches personalities and becomes extremely passive to everything happening to her, zzzzz
3) Zero chemistry between any of the three of them, feels kind of forced, which can happen when your characters don't cooperate with the pairing you've set them up with, but it just ain't workin here

I was floored when I found out this was going to be Seth's story. He made a big impression when I saw him in a previous story and liked getting to see him center stage.

I was pulled in from the beginning and the story held on until the last line. There were a few extra characters that I was not 100% remembering if I had seen before, but if don't focus on trying to remember if they were in other stories or not, it was 100% ok. Got enough info for them to do their job and add to the story.

This one delivered on a wonderful ride where another set of monsters got their happy ending. Great addition to the series.

Liam, Seth, and Hazel!

Well I was pleasantly surprised to figure out this dynamic. I listened to the audiobook of this story and as in the past was blown away. Our narrators know how to bring life to these characters and make you immersed in the book like your the characters!

Seth was strong, handsome, and hot. Liam was a funny, powerful, and dirty demon. Hazel was strong, brave and surprisingly hilarious! I loved the fast pace and oh my the heat was seriously impressive and given one partner is a demon and one is a witch with powers it was out of this world.

I loved getting closure on our other characters and the continued mystery of why the warlocks are still trying to take down Desmond. I look forward to hearing more in the next one 🙌🏻

While this book can be read as a stand-alone, it is much more enjoyable if the series is read in order. Oh how the mighty fall, the most power young wizard meets his match. Which is even more fun with the snippets and shenanighans from past books.

Things are never boring in Darlington but what can you expect when it is pretty much owned/run by a dragon? This series is one of my favorites that I'm always impatient for the next book which is immediately grabbed.

Maggie Mayhem always comes up with new and interesting story lines. There are always suprises you don't see coming, other than the happily ever after.

omg, this book was amazing. Everything about it was so well done. I've been waiting for Seth and Liam to get their own book and this did not disappoint. The plot, the action, spice, banter...everything was top notch. Seeing reoccurring characters that I loved and villains I hated was interesting and so satisfying. I adored seeing the view points of Liam and Seth and Hazel not only complimented them both but the three of them worked together so well. plus that guy from Rome (you know the one) his five minutes of page time ended in such a satisfying way, I was completely happy. ack, I love this series. Well done!

I’ve been waiting for Seth’s and Liam’s book forever, and while the plot itself was solid (Maggie always delivers there), the execution left me wanting more. The storytelling lacked the kind of detail that pulls you in—normally, actions are layered with tension and description that make you feel the moment. Here, everything moved too quickly, leaving the characters flatter than I expected.

After seeing them in nearly every book, I was dying to finally be in their heads—but instead, I got surface-level versions of them. No depth, no real pull. And that stings, because I wanted to love this so badly.

I liked the story and all but I'm rating it a 3 for the simple fact that this yet another MMF book with no MM scenes. Liam and Seth are literally mates and were together before Hazel, the FMC even came into the picture yet all the sex scenes were MFM. I'm so tired of some of these authors liking the idea if MMF but not actually wanting to commit to it. The lack of MM scenes was very disappointing. Maggie Mayhem should've just made it a MFM book instead because the only intimacy you saw between Liam and Seth was kissing, cute nicknames and sleeping in the same bed. Anything sexual between the two. Nonexistent.

Tons of steamy good times between Hazel, Liam, and Seth, witchcraft, an evil portal, and lots of returning characters including a manticore, a dragon, gargoyle brothers, and a naga… Maggie Mayhem never disappoints. I loved this MMF romp back through Darlington and its beloved cast of supernatural and mortal inhabitants. It’s not necessary to have read any of the previous books in the series to enjoy this one as a standalone.

I was very fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and Booksprout, and I’m sharing my honest review.

Sarah/Hazel is a cop that’s been tasked with dealing with the magical crimes in Darlington. Seth is an EA agent and liaison for the towns leader. Liam is a demon I. Love with Seth and open to fun and games. When she gets hurt Seth orchestrates taking care of her. Liam decides she’s perfect and Seth’s interest in her will be perfect for them to find their one. It’s hot and steamy with mystery and danger. It’s got characters from previous books and the world of Darlington is so fun to explore. I love this series!!.

Doubley Dynamic!

I've adored LIam and Seth throughout this series, so I was EXTREMELY excited to finally get to read their seemingly, already-perfect love story. Apparently, like the giant gaping hole in the middle of the city that's sucking in wizards like spaghetti noodles, this flirtatious pair has a missing witchy-shaped piece in their puzzling relationship dynamics. And now that they've found her, they all need to save each other! I love the way they all fit together in the end.

Seth, Liam, and Hazel
Back to the town of Darlington where Seth and Liam finally gets a chance with their woman of their dreams, Hazel. Hazel had a crush on Seth, but knew he was taken by Liam. Little did she know that they both wanted her. With a wizard eating portal to contend with, Seth's WEC evil father after Hazel, and Hazel's weariness, it looks like Seth and Liam may never have Hazel as their own. Love the story. Very steamy hot. I need more of the supernatural world of Darlington.
