One of the stronger issues post-Krakoa. Not only is the writer making no attempt to reinvent the wheel here ("There is a secret afterlife for humans who betray mutants, and you can access it through a secret cemetery that is supposed to be available to any mutants, but no one has ever heard of it other than Gambit!"). She is giving us details to make me like and relate to one of the young mutants, Valentin.

For the most part, modern comics do a terrible job of giving young mutants backstory. This Uncanny X-Men book is the best of the current lot. But, over in Exceptional X-Men? We know practically nothing about any of those kids. They're all disgustingly twee, and Gen Z, but we don't have any actual backstory on any of them. The 1980s New Mutants were great. Illyana spent ten years living in a Hell dimension. Rahne grew up with an abusive, homophobic, conservative pastor. Sam grew up in a very large, impoverished family. There were enough details that I could find the characters understandable and relatable.

Valentin, here, is basically a retooled version of Sunspot. Both are very dark-skinned Latin men. Both have super strength by way of mutant powers that redirect energy. Both have very rich fathers mixed up in criminal enterprises.

Still, even though Valentin is just Sunspot 2.0, I managed to like this okay.

I love the art in this series, and the Comic Con like scene was like, Where's Waldo, can you spot Jay and Silent Bob? 🤣🤣

This issue was great continued story development for Valentin. This felt much needed for him, and I loved him and Wolvie taking on the gang, and the confrontation with the boss was hilarious! Hopefully, Valentin can find it in his heart to forgive his bro.

The cafeteria scene was also a highlight, Hotaru couldn't take a hint that Sofia and Becca just wanted some alone time. Then, the following scene was fantastic. I won't spoil it, but all I will say is pink glitter coffin!

Great issue! Also, the Nightcrawler variant art, so good!

alls well that ends well

Wolverine and Ransom's trip to Argentina gets a fun resolution. There are a few teases for the other characters but nothing substantial.

a short but sweet chapter.
