🔥 Claimed by Fire A Dark Paranormal Romance Book One of the Marked by Flame and Fate SeriesThey say the Demon King protects the realms. But I’ve only ever seen the ashes he leaves behind. To save my crumbling homeland, I’m offered as tribute, one girl among many, bartered in exchange for the illusion of peace. I expect chains. Silence. A quick end. What I get is a crown.
Kaelith, Warden of Fire and ruler of the infernal empire of Varethar, is everything I’ve been taught to fear. Cold. Ancient. Ruthless. His throne is built on war, his court ruled by shadows and whispered threats. And yet… he doesn’t treat me like a prisoner. He treats me like something fragile. Sacred. His. I don’t want to belong to him. I don’t want to belong to anyone. But the longer I stay, the more I feel something awakening inside me, something powerful, and not quite human. And Kaelith is watching me like he already knows what I am.
I was meant to be a sacrifice. Now I’m at the center of a court that wants me dead. And a king who would burn the world to keep me.
Perfect for fans of slow-burn steam, dark possessive love interests, and heroines who refuse to kneel, Claimed by Fire is the first book in the scorching paranormal romance series Marked by Flame and Fate.
Perfect for readers who 🔥 Marriage of convenience 🖤 Morally gray monster kings ✨ Fated mates & past lives 💋 Slow-burn, dangerous romance 🦊 Nine-tailed foxes, demons, celestials & dark creatures
Melanie Davies began writing when she was in her early teens, starting off first in vampire role play forums, she began to learn her voice and teach herself how to write creatively.
She looks forward to bringing more fictional worlds and characters to you. Writing has always been a dream of hers and one she is excited to achieve.
Be sure to follow her on social media to keep up to date with her future books.
This book wasn’t what I expected it to be, but I actually quite enjoyed the story! Anything with forbidden love, past lives, demons, and celestials is always right up my alley, so this was, obviously, no exception.
The characters were flawed, but you learn like, even love them throughout despite everything, and I especially loved Ivera. She was definitely my favourite.
Ok so…I didn’t expect this book to have me in a chokehold from page one..but it did.
Elora I loved her defiant, stand her ground attitude but I also loved it when she let herself be vulnerable especially with kael I loved the mystery to her character as well Melanie gave her so much depth and it’s only book one..
Kaelith oh my he had me in a chokehold..his character was by far one of my favorites..the merciless king no love cold..but with elora you really see is other side one that I think he thought he didn’t have anymore. There is also a mystery about him as well as well as the relationship between both of them.
I honestly cannot wait for book 2, if you love enemies to lovers, reverse harem (which is where the books will eventually lead) why choose, forced bond, spice..and an amazing plot.
This book will have a chokehold on you and you won’t be able to put it down. Elora is a simple “human” girl from a little village that believes in sacrifices to the Demon King for peace. But there never is peace, Elora is not one that believes in the Demon King and that her being a sacrifice is nothing more than her being used as fodder. Little does she know that a parting gift from her mother will change everything. Not only is the Demon king not what she expected, but neither is she. If you love a good enemies to lovers and also a possessive MMC then this is for you. To say a swooned over so many lines in this book is an understatement.
From page one, I was dragged delightfully deep into this world. Elora is all sharp edges and quiet fears - headstrong, stubborn, and utterly alive on the page. Kaelith? The definition of a shadow-draped king, heavy crown and all. He broods, he burns, and he’s very much a “shadow daddy” of the highest order. The side characters are *chef’s kiss* (Tharos, I’m watching you 👀).
Some moments felt like the story sprinted toward the action, but as the first in a series, I suspect the next book will fill in the shadows between the flames.
If you crave slow-burn tension, demon royalty, fierce heroines, and lore as rich as midnight, this is your next read. 🕯️🔥
As soon as I started to read I couldn’t stop. I really enjoyed it and I hope second book will come out soon. I want to know more and see what happens next. I hope the author has plans to publish second book soon, like in a month 😊.
I have read several of Melanie Davies fantasy series and so I was excited to jump into the first book in her latest Marked by Flame and Fate series. After a whirlwind of a book 1 filled with plenty of action, trauma filled back stories and a forbidden enemies to lovers romance, I have to say that I think this is the best fantasy that Davies has ever written.
In Claimed by Fire, we meet Elora, a human girl who has been sacrificed by her village as a potential bride to the powerful and reviled Demon King, Kaelith, in exchange for protection. Although she knows that she cannot escape this fate, Elora refuses to be broken or show an ounce of fear in the face of this ancient and deadly king. Little does she, or her soon to be demonic husband, know that their union will set off a chain of events that will send the boundaries between realms crumblings and awaken a passion and star-crossed love that defies the ages because it should never have been.
Davies strikes a nice balance between having to do a fair amount of world building that is clearly laying the ground work for the next several books in this series, and also giving us rich character development for our main characters. From the outset, Elora is an FMC that you want to root for, with an inner grit and tenacity that only grows as the threats around her grow and hidden truths are revealed. Kaelith is a wonderfully complex character. Despite his fierce reputation, which he definitely earns, he also has a beautifully straight forward way of approaching Elora, never hiding who he is or what he is thinking from her. He refuses to shield her from difficult truths but also allows himself to be vulnerable with her in a way he never has been with anyone else. He is respectful and admires the Queen she is, with or without his crown.
As celestial forces threaten to tear Elora away from him, Kaelith is singleminded in his absolute determination to keep her with him and I am a sucker for any MMC with this high degree of burn the world down devotion. Elora finds herself struggling between the path that Fate has planned for her and looking to take hold of her agency and life. This is a tension Davis weaves throughout all aspects of her story and it's clear it will be an ongoing theme throughout the series for Elora, Kaelith and many others who are part of their story.
With the realms racing towards the brink of war, memories and pasts are unlocked and Elora and Kaelith realize that their connection runs much deeper than either could have imagined. But will betrayal from someone tied to their past ultimately tear apart their future, just as they've truly found one another? You are just going to have to read book 2 to find out because man was that cliffhanger a bit of a doozy. I am slain in the best of ways!
Davies has already prepared readers that this series is an MFMM and so I am open to seeing who else can win my heart but I will say Kaelith has set a high bar. I can't wait to learn more about lies ahead.
I don't know what to think. The last 50 pages where addictive, i read them in a breath. The story finally unroll and every piece went into it's place. The ending? A cliffhanger that made you want to take the second book and ready it ASAP. The plot and the story are entertaining and amazing, I really want to know what is going to happend now and how Elora and Kael will over take this obstacle. And the new charachter... I have a soft spot for white haired man and i die ti ready about him/them. But i found the first pages slow paced. The chapters where really short, the continue change of pov made the reading fragmentated and I found some repetitions in their though and speach (especially in the first 30/50 pages). I would have preferred a little more depth and less “rush,” exactly what was there in the last few chapters. The lack of worldbuilding kept me somewhat floundering, preventing me from getting even deeper into the story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Claimed by Fire had me in a chokehold from the very beginning. What starts as a slow, tense enemies-to-lovers setup gradually unfurls into a searingly passionate love story, with layered worldbuilding, unforgettable side characters, and a romance that burns.
Elora is the kind of heroine I live for, stubborn, smart, and so much more than she believes. Kaelith, our morally grey demon king, radiates pure “touch her and die” energy. He’s cold, ancient, and terrifying… until he’s with her. Then he’s fire, loyalty, and ruin.
The pacing is masterful. The beginning simmers with tension, then explodes once the memories and truths start to surface. And by the end? You’re completely ruined…especially with that teaser for book two (I need it like air).
The found family dynamic was a highlight too— • Ivera starts out as someone you don’t know whether to trust, and ends up a total badass you adore. • Lysaria (our foxy girly!) is impossible not to love, and her bond with Elora is one I can’t wait to see deepen in future books. • And just when you think you’ve caught your breath, we’re introduced to a mysterious new male character that has me counting the days until book two.
✨ Favourite Quotes: — “Let them look. Let them judge. I wasn’t here to play a part in their twisted court. I was here because my kingdom bled, and they paid for it in daughters.” — “She didn’t look like a prisoner. She looked like a queen forged by fire.” — “Let her lock the doors. Let her hate the beast, but one day, she would understand, this monster didn’t just guard the castle. He burned for her.”
If you’re craving something dark, romantic, and unputdownable, with monster kings, celestial lore, and fated flames—Claimed by Fire will completely consume you.
⭐️✨ My Star Rating System ✨⭐️
🌟 5 Stars — OBSESSED. I’ll be thinking about this book forever. It gave me all the feels, the plot delivered, and the characters live rent-free in my head. Would sell my soul for a sequel.
🌟 4 Stars — Loved it! Strong story, great pacing, and I was fully invested. A few small things held it back from a full five, but I’d still recommend it to almost anyone.
🌟 3 Stars — It was good, just not my fave. Enjoyable but didn’t quite hit all the marks. Might work better for someone else!
🌟 2 Stars — Struggled to stay interested. The idea had potential, but something just didn’t click for me—whether it was the writing, pacing, or characters.
🌟 1 Star — Not for me. I had a hard time finishing and probably wouldn’t recommend. (That said, every book has its reader—it just wasn’t this one’s day.)
The way I devoured this book! Right from the start it hooked me!
What begins as a slow, tension filled enemies-to-lovers set up, turns into an all-consuming passionate love story of two star-crossed lovers.
I loved Elora! She is head-strong and defiant, and so much more than she believes herself to be. Kaelith, is the perfect MMC - ruthless, brooding, and radiates "touch her and die" energy. He is the cold and dangerous shadow-draped demon king, but inside, he is scarred and longs for love and connection. He is fiercely protective of and devoted to Elora, and I loved how he was only soft for her. And when the memories resurfaced and truths were revealed, you can't help but fall for him even more. Especially when we finally discover how and why he became who he is now...
Their relationship was so beautiful and healing. The way they shared their vulnerabilities and fears, accepted each other for who they are, and reassured one another that their love was unconditional, it was so heart-warming to read.
I loved this book so much, it was an easy 5 stars, and I can't wait for book 2 because that cliffhanger ending though!!
Tropes: 🔥 Marriage of convenience 🔥 Enemies to lovers 🔥 Fated mates & past lives 🔥 Slow burn 🔥 Touch her and die 🔥 "mine" 🔥 Human among monsters 🔥 Plot driven but spicy
Favourite quotes: ✨️ "Then you started looking at me like I was someone. Even in my darkest days. I fight you at every step, and yet... here you are. Just waiting. Just hoping I'll eventually agree to be yours."✨️
✨️"Now I've learned to bleed for something more than survival." He reached for me, his thumb brushing my lips, the touch light but certain. "I didn't know I was capable of love, Elora. Not until you."✨️
➣Tropes: -Enemies To Lovers -Marriage Of Convenience -Slowburn -Fated Mates with past lives -Plot Driven But Spicy -Touch her and 💀
Claimed By Fire follows our two MCs Elora and Kaelith. Elora was a human girl who was forced into marriage with the Demon King aka Kaelith whom she was taught to fear yet Kaelith was anything she thought. He treats her like something Fragile. Sacred. She was suppose to be a sacrifice But Now she is in the middle of Court that wants her dead and a king who will burn the world just to keep her.
My review:
-🌟🌟🌟🌟- 4 Stars!
- OMG 😭❤️ the way this book had me in chokehold! Holy! I love love love Elora! She is the type of FMC i would love. Badass! Strong! And Kaelith! The Demon King who is only soft towards her but monsters to the world! And The spice was also really really good between two!! The tension! The writing! The world building i loved it!! And the cliffhanger omg i cannot wait for the book 2!
If you love Dark Romantasy, Slowburn, Marriage of convenience, Demons And other magical creature, Morally grey MMC who will burn the world for her, strong FMC then i think you will love this book!
Spoiler Maybe?
Three of my favorite quotes from the book. I had quite few but these two!
"I didn't know i was capable of love before you Elora"
"I told you i will find you even if i burn"
“As for importance… You are my consort. My queen. That alone makes you meaningful.”
Gods. What had I done? What would I do again? Because the truth, as it stood now, was damning. I would burn the world to keep her. And I wasn’t sure if that meant I had already lost. Tharos was right, she would be the end of me.
Thank you so much for giving me an ARC of this book! 🥰💕
Melanie Davies has such a way of writing that not only pulls you into the story with the content which is on point and characters that build and grow but she visually takes you on the journey. Claimed by fire is another book of hers that will pull you in from the very first page and as you read each page this world comes alive. As you read each word you are catapulted into the pages and will see this world flash before your eyes.
Elora has been sacrificed for the greater good of her village. The demon king is the one who is supposed to bring peace for the village with the sacrifice of a female. Elora is now thrust into a world that is dark and dangerous and the demon king Kaelith who wants her at his side as his queen. Elora is a strong, independent kick ass female who knows her own head. Kaelith is a surprise and he is a man who is more than what we expect. As the story develops we learn that everything is not what it seems. Secrets have been hidden deep within.
I honestly can not wait for book 2 and what is to come. This is a new series and is perfect for anyone who loves enemies to lovers, demons and celestial, and fated mates.
"You were meant to survive. Even if the stars forgot why." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️ As the first installment of the Marked by Flame and Fate series this is off to an amazing start. And that cliffhanger, omg. The world building is very intriguing, the hierarchy of creatures is well thought out, though I am looking forward to getting more information later on, and the characters are fantastic. Elora and Kaelith have an intensity right from the beginning. The build up to their relationship is filled with tension and angst. Neither of them realizes that history is being repeated. Elora has this phenomenal inner strength that is going to continue to grow and make her even more amazing than she already is. I do believe this is going to be a reverse harem later on, though I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that and y'all know I love a good reverse harem. But I really like Kaelith and I don't know how other characters could possibly measure up to him. The twists keep you guessing, the Easter eggs are well placed and the anticipation for what's to come will keep me up at night.
Claimed by Fire is the first book in the Marked by Flame & Fate series. It’s a slow burn, fantasy, paranormal romance. The story is told in dual pov and follows the MCs Elora and Kaelith. Kaelith is a ruthless, demon, king who is fiercely protective of Elora. Elora is the girl who was bartered into a marriage of convenience where the fear she was taught to have is unwarranted. I enjoyed the world building , character development, and all the different magical beings. The story line includes adventure, yearning, great banter, and strong chemistry. I can't wait to continue the rest of this series, this book left me eager for more. Mel always knows how to pull you into her worlds and hold your attention captive.

✨ My Thoughts ✨ This truly was such fun read. It was everything I needed. The tension was an absolute dream and couldn't get enough of it. Once I started couldn't stop. I enjoyed the world and the characters. Our FMC is determined and smart. I love that about her so much. Our MMC is morally gray and loyal to those he cares about. The spice was so good too. I also enjoyed the pace of this book. I truly feel like there was never a slow moment. I am excited to see the world expand. So ready for book two!
Claimed by Fire is book one in the Marked by Flame and Fate series. This book is recommended for 18+. As always please check TW before reading.
✨ I want to thank Mel for an earc of this book. These are my own true thoughts. ✨
This story has incredible world building, amazing characters, the best romance, and was overall such a great read! I was fully hooked within the first couple of pages, and I'm absolutely obsessed with the main characters! Elora is such a baddie and the most wonderful heroine. Kaelith is unhinged, dark, and I'm in love!
The pace of the story was perfect! I loved how it gradually got more dark and intense as the story went on. If you're looking for a dark romance featuring demons and the best banter ever, I highly recommend this one!
Tropes: 🔥Dark Romantasy 🖤Enemies to lovers 🔥Slow burn 🖤Fated mates 🔥Marriage of Convenience
I LOVED this book! Its the first book in a 5-book series. In the future this series will become a MMMMF paranormal romance... so if thats your thing, you're in the right place! Elora is a strong FMC.. she will survive any situation thats given to her, and with her head held high. Kaelith is the Demon King. Ruthless and will burn the world and all the realms if it means protecting the one he loves. Needless to say, I'm in love. "I won't be your posession-Even if I'm surrounded by silk and fire. A cage is still a cage". "And somewhere down the corridor, a girl was being prepared to be my wife. Not just a crown. Not just a consort. MINE" You wont regret reading this book...5 STARS 2 CHILIES
Now that I have your attention... As Janice would say “OH...MY....GOD!”
Even though Varethar doesn’t sound as the most magical place to live, you forget all about it when you dive into Elora’s and Kaelith’s story <3 She’s a human, he’s the Demon King... what could go wrong? Well, try EVERYTHING! Expect Romeo + Juliet vibes but if the families were demons and angels, and there was a serious case of amnesia in case you thought the plot didn’t have enough elements. Oh... and have I mentioned the sweet cliffhanger at the end? ;)
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
I got heavily hooked. The plot is interesting and intense. There is such a connection made on the onset with the reader that at the end you will be pining for book 2. MELANIE DAVIES leaves it on a cliff hanger with a revelation so shocking and so unacceptable especially after you fall in love with the main characters. I personally can't wait to consume book 2.
I absolutely are this book up I could not stop reading for fear of missing something. I loved the fire in Elora, never giving in. Finding out they were bonded throughout multiple lifetimes was so heartbreaking. I'm so interested to find out what comes of Elora now she's trapped with Tharion will she remember her old love or new ??
This book was so engaging and addictive. It grabbed my attention from the first page and it kept me going until the last word. I also really enjoyed how the FMC was written and she stood on her own merits as a character. Plus, who doesn’t love a morally grey MMC too? It was an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to book 2!
Fantasy is not usually a genre I read, this being my 5th fantasy book and wow do I want to read more. This book started off so well I wanted to know more. The character development and the enemies to lovers story line kept me wanting more. The last 50 pages I couldn’t put down and I now can’t wait to jump into the second book. Another fantastic book by Melanie Davies
I am so thrilled to have received this ARC! I love the journey and could not predict the cliff hanger cliff ending. I very much look forward to continuing the journey Melanie is taking us on!
I absolutely loved reading this book. Elora is such a strong-willed woman that defies the king at every turn. z she's not about to just give in and be the queen Kaelith expects her to be. Kaelith is a cold and calculating king, but something about Elora brings out a side of him he didn't know existed. he's enthralled by her to say the least. he loves that she's all fire and defiance. This really made for an excellent read. I'm not really big on this kind of story but it totally pulled me in. and i loved every minute of it.
I received this as an ARC and I'm leaving a voluntary review
Oh my god. It is absolutely one of the best books that I've read this year. It is like 100/5 stars
This book will have your attention from the moment that you've started reading it.
First of all - the characters. I adore Elora, she's like a calm before a storm. Always silent, composed, calm, it looks like nothing can attack her, while inside she's like a storm, always raging, always thinking, always seeking something. And then we have Kaelith, the complete opposite, always full of fire and rage and ruin, promising doom, but inside being this scared boy, who longs for connection. Their enemies to lovers, that can't not think of each other, the trying to oppose to the fate that brought them together (it was mostly from Elora's side). But their relationship was so beautiful - they healed each other scars, fears and insecurities, were strength and pillar, protectors in their own ways. It was so pleasant to read about their interactions, blossoming love and connection, understanding and acceptance.
The relationship between Kaelith, Ivera and Tharos though is based on their status, but complete trust, companionship, understanding runs so much deeper than that. It's not only their duty that makes them try to help, be there when needed
The storyline and world was so greatly structured, it was so interesting to read about it, to get to know how it works. This world is so unique, has many layers that I want to peel back one by one and get to delve deeper. I truly want to explore more of this world.
Another intriguing element that I loved about this book is secrets, past that is slowly revealed bit by bit, but is still shrouded in so much darkness. I love to unravel them together wit the fmc. And the plot twist that come so unexpectedly, and was is being revealed and happening always pleasantly shocked me, and especially that ending, which left me wanting more.
I absolutely loved this book so so much. It had the perfect balance of plot, characters, their relationships, love story, court intrigue. Inhaled it in one sitting. Recommend it absolutely!
🔥 5/5 emotionally invested in fictional characters more than my own life, thanks for asking.
From page one this book grabbed me by the throat and said “you’re not sleeping tonight” and I said “okay 🫠” this isn’t just a romance book, it’s a spiritual awakening via demon angst.
⚔️ Elora = Icon She’s smart, stubborn, is riddled with trauma and rage issues. I would high five her and hand her a knife - 10/10 no notes.
😈 Kaelith = Chaos Morally grey? More like morally ash grey with a dash of ancient trauma and “I would burn the world for you” vibes (pls do) he’s terrifying, hot as hell and I love him. If he glared at me I’d thank him.
🔥 Plot? Pacing? RUIN ME The story starts out a curious and bitter enemies to lovers and evolves in to a passionate love story. Incredible world building, outstanding side characters and a romance that could burn the world to ashes. I have melted with awe and also googled “how to get a fictional character to fall in love with me” by the end I was wrapped in a blanket staring at the walls, wasting the days away until book 2. How dare you leave me wanting like this.
Side characters have my heart just as much as anyone else. - Ivera went from “shady” to “I would die for her” - Lysaria is a little chaos fox queen has such a connection with Elora, I want to braid her hair and start a fight for her. - Finally a new mystery man arrives and I’m holding my breath, ready to pass out until book 2 is ready.
✨ Favourite Quotes - Don’t mistake quiet for peace. He is the flame - You’re not ready for this. But neither am I.
🖤 Parting thoughts If you’re looking for a slow burn, enemies to lovers, hotter than hell, dark romantasy with demon kings, celestial beings and fated love - you’re in the right place. But you’ve been warned.
The first few chapters were a little slow and I was for the first 50 ish pages struggling to get in to the story but then everything fell into place and in the end I was hooked.
Elora I loved her defiant, stand her ground attitude but I also loved it when she let herself be vulnerable especially with Kaelith.
What a cliffhanger to end book 1 ‘oh my goodness’ give me book 2 I need to know what happens
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
I could not put this book down. The way Elora and Kaelith have a chokehold on me is unreal.
The book starts Elora being thrown into a forced marriage to the King of Demons Kaelith and I was fully hooked with the brilliant world building and the characters. There is good banter between multiple characters and there is duel POV.
There is slow burn enemies to lovers romance which has a bombshell secret which had me needing more.
The Cliff Hanger!!!!!! Oh my days I can't wait for book 2.
I stepped into this book, not expecting anything, but boy, was I wrong. I finished it in 2 days, needles to say, the story kept me from putting it down. Demons, celestials... Multiple realms, different times...it all comes together in a fast moving story with great characters in a well envisioned environment. Forbidden love, trauma, timeless war.... And it's all just beginning.
