A compassionate, science-backed guide to improving sleep in children and teens with neurodiversities — written by a renowned pediatric sleep expert who is also the parent of a neurodivergent child.
When Dr. Melisa Moore realized her son had autism and ADHD, she already had a decade of experience helping families navigate sleep issues, but nothing had prepared her for the reality of managing sleep in her own household. The advice she had learned felt too rigid, unrealistic, or simply ineffective for kids like hers. What she needed was a different kind of guide — so she set out to create one.
With humor, validation, and true empathy, Moore offers a multifaceted framework that blends evidence-based science with real-life parenting wisdom. She breaks down the myths of sleep training, redefines “healthy sleep” for neurodiverse families, and provides a toolkit for finding what works — for your child, in your life, right now, even if it doesn’t look the way anyone told you it should. As Moore shows, consistently better sleep is possible, and The Good Sleep Guide for Neurodivergent Kids will get your family there.

So happy this book exists. The author is a pediatric sleep expert and the mom of a kid with ADHD and autism. She’s not guessing, she’s lived it. This isn’t another book telling you to try a consistent bedtime routine. It actually addresses why neurodivergent brains struggle with sleep differently and what to do about it. Bought it the week it came out and already seeing a difference. Genuinely one of the most useful parenting books I’ve come across.
This book is an absolutely gem for parents (or people) navigating the unique sleep challenges that neurodivergent people face. Written with compassion, the author approaches in a way that understands a one size fits all approach is unrealistic but does so in a hopeful and helpful way. This book was incredibly helpful- highly recommend!
ASD families - Dr. Moore understands that parents are exhausted. She sees that every family situation is unique and offers realistic options backed by the science we are all too tired to read. I especially love some of the sensory suggestions and the sleep script for teens.
This is an excellent book with solid standard recommendations to rare disorders. It’s worth the read to think about sleep from all directions, many that aren’t that obvious. Kudos to Dr. Moore for sharing valuable insight and current science.
Good guide for parents of kids with trouble sleeping. Helped me understand that my struggles with bedtime and the long nights trying to get everyone back to bed wasn’t that uncommon.
