Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
It is time for the yearly vampire ball, and this year... Isadora can come along with her parents!
Oh boy, I was so happy when I saw my library had this book. It is a bit spotty if they get these books in English (in Dutch they do have all of the books currently out) so I am always double happy when they do add it. And this was a really adorable and cute book with tons of inspiration and I could relate to Isadora a lot.
This time Isadora can come along with her parents to the Vampire Ball. A party I would love to go to as well, alas I am not a vampire or a half-vampire. This year is even more special as it falls on a Blood Moon evening. So the older vampires would like the kids to do something fun, a talent show! Isadora is a bit worried but also excited to do ballet. Because she definitely doesn't want to do what her father did for his routine when he was young (and I totally agreed with her there, dad please). I loved seeing her practice and where can I buy a tutu that spits out glitter when I dance? I want one!
But then things happen and I just felt so sorry for Isadora. I could imagine her worries though, OK sure, maybe not the whole ballet x vampires may not work as I am just human and never met a vampire, but definitely the whole doing something in front of a big crowd and OMG what if things go wrong, or what if people don't like, or what if they laugh? I knew that feeling so so well. Each time I had to go on stage I had these same feelings. But as you can read, I did go on stage, so I was just hoping that Isadora would, like me, find courage to go there.
We meet a brand-new girl and I loved her immediately. Araminta is so alike Isadora and I was delighted that the two immediately became friends. I do hope we see more of Araminta in the future books.
The plan the two girls concocted was magical and I was happy with the reactions of the people. Well done girls~ I am sure you are all curious what happened, haha, you will have to read the book!
Bonus points to the extras after the story. Recipes, how to make a stage, writing a story, and more!
All in all, I had so so much fun reading this one. Vampires, balls, ballet, a problem that is very relatable, friendship, glitter, and tons of pink, oh and wonderful illustrations, I cannot wait till the next book. What will be next for Isadora?
The 10th in Harriet Muncaster’s self-illustrated fantasy series for children aged 6+ is another charming and thoughtful affair that focuses on self-confidence and how to deal with situations that make you nervous. It’s another very girly book but I especially liked how Muncaster sets up the expectations of her dad, who is slightly too worried about what the vampires will like rather than what Isadora will enjoy, which adds to her nerves.
In this book Isadora gets to attend the vampire ball with her parents and gets to take part too, however we see how nerves get the better of her at times and how new friends can make everything better and his being you is the best thing you can be!
A great little book to help you embrace who you are and make you appreciate your talents and passions too!
It’s the vampire ball on a special blood moon night and all the vampire children are asked to perform in a talent showcase. Isadora wants to do ballet but it’s not vampire-y enough and she doubts herself and becomes too scared to perform. Then she meets a girl just like her and together put on a spectacular show.
This was really cute, having Araminta with her really gave her the confidence boost she was missing. I loved that we were introduced to another half vampire in this book and that they became close and showed to every vampire there what they can do.
The vampire ball was so fascinating with so many vampires all gathered together and it being a special event, i really liked the concept of it. I loved that each child had a different talent to show off, it was really cute.
The illustrations are always adorable and I loved seeing so many new vampire characters within this book, it was so cute. I always love the colour pops too on each page. Isadora and Pink Rabbit looked extra cute in this one with the tutu and capes.
Muncaster Mission #10 Isadora Moon #10 Isadora Moon returns for the tenth time, and sadly the last one that the library has available, so I'll have to try and find the remaining books. Anyway another classic, and another new character emerges, another half vampire. The world building is slow but increasing. Anyway a good yarn with the message of being true to yourself.
I can’t wait to learn more about Isadora’s new friend. I am glad that she had the courage to do what she loved and get past the fear. It shows that everyone has their own strengths and differences. Also loved the magical Tutu.
(3.6 stars) Childrens book I bought for my second cousin who is almost 7 years old. This book contains cute illustrations and I like the idea of a half vampire half fairy. Would recommend it for small children.
I felt my 8-year old might have grown out of this type of story by now, but she seemed to like it. A bit short for a good-night tale, but we'll be checking out the activities in the appendix. :)
This is Isadora Moon at her best - sparkly hardback edition with stunning silver sprayed edges - I'd already fallen in love with the book before reading it!
This is the 10th book in the self-illustrated and much loved series, and Harriet Muncaster's continues to create fabulously fun tales about one seriously unique heroine.
Beautiful and charming, with a suitable underlying message of believing in yourself and accepting your differences, Isadora Moon makes for a perfect choice for newly independent readers.
