South of Somewhere was such a good, hopeful story. I read it in record time. From the start, I rooted for Junie who had been through so much. This story had a lot of hurt and alot of heart. A perfect struggle-to-overcome-addiction story with a happy outcome. It had a friends to more romance, witty banter, family angst and lots of great spiritual lessons. It was a peek into how different Alcoholic Anonymous meetings operated and showed how true friendships were made. A favorite character was Gilbert who was a probation officer, sobriety coach, and father figure rolled into one. But he was there for Junie with tough love, too.
This is one of the authors who writes stories that I savor, with characters that are relatable and a wrting style that I have come to appreciate with each book of hers that I read.

Analysis: If T. I. Lowe writes it, I’m reading it. She is my absolute favorite for gritty women’s fiction all from a Christian perspective. And she doesn’t shy away from hard topics. In this book, she dives into the world of addiction and how it really affects people’s lives. I’m getting emotional just writing this review. But chances are if you pick up this book, you will relate to someone. Whether it’s Junie’s apprehensive older brother, her protective neighbor, her loving support group and probation officer, or even Junie herself, these characters will tug at the strings of your heart with the reality of addiction and brokenness. But Lowe at her best doesn’t leave you hopeless. This is the recovery story we long to see in those we love the most. So grab your tissues and buckle up for a ride of heartbreak, healing, and hope all in one.

Wow! South of Somewhere is amazing! I could NOT put this book down. Ms. Lowe knows how to write a book, and make a reader feel all the feels. I cried, I laughed and I rooted for Junie. I loved all the characters that made up Junie's world. This is a book that covers addictions. It is handled in the most tender and heartfelt ways. I think this book will resonate with so many people in a positive way. And of course, there is a sweet romance too. I absolutely loved this book and I feel this can offer encouragement. It will be a great book club book for discussion.

4.5⭐️. So heartfelt and also gut-wrenching at times. This was so well written to make you really feel what Junie did as she struggled with addiction and endeavored for sobriety.

While I’ve never dealt with what she did, she was still very relatable as she fought against her shame and mistakes trying to get her daughter back, and had so much not in her control. I wanted so much to be in her corner and fight for her when dealing with her brother or others who condemned her. The story did an excellent job of showcasing the difference grace and encouragement make rather than condemnation and judgement.

This book does have less romance than most other TI Lowe books but focused more on friendships and community, but it was so very fitting. I loved the emphasis on needing each other especially when we are struggling, and how important vulnerability and speaking up is. How you can’t go thru life alone, and how much the support of good friends makes such a difference, maybe even being the crux of success in recovery.

Also loved the cameo of Lowcountry Lost. I love crossover characters.

Really well done and endearing, emotional and inspiring.

As I knew it would be, this book was amazing. Juniper is coming out of rehab starting fresh. Her daughter is in custody with her brother Cy. Now she has to find a AA meeting and stay clean. With her over protected probation officer Gil she is meeting new people to help with her journey. Even the handsome neighbor Henry is being a good friend, but her brother wants to move states and she can't even see her daughter. Can she have a chance to get her daughter back and maybe even have a relationship again with her brother? Will all this work be worth it in the end. In the book they give 2 Corinthians 12:7-8 as Juniper example of her struggles and it fit so well. In 2023 I went through rehab and went through struggles like Juniper. Can I tell you TI Lowe wrote this book perfectly to starting a new journey to the struggles with family. It spoke directly to my heart and had me in tears. This book is exactly what a person goes through when struggling with addiction and starting anew. Wonderful book!! 5 stars and I can't recommend this book enough when this priceless book comes out!! Trust me read it!!

South of Somewhere chronicles Junie's life as she leaves rehab. The story will pull you in as the author weaves the emotional highs and lows.

I love that Junie has a group that surrounds her and supports her. My favorites were Gilbert and Henry. I saw Gilbert as a kindly grandpa but also one that could give a kick in the pants if you got out of line. Henry was just super sweet and quiet and compassionate.

While the topic could be overwhelming, the author is able to present it in such a way that you can understand a little more about addiction and recovery.

A highlight was visiting the town of Somewhere that was from a previous book!

The characters and the story will stay with me for quite some time.

Set in Sullivans Island, this second chance story of recovery and redemption follows a young widowed woman fresh out of rehab following a DUI with her daughter in the car looking to reestablish and recenter her life. It was just the right amount of a light beach read with heavy emotional undertones and a touching story.

The Best Christ-Infused Southern Fiction-

T I Lowe writes southern fiction like no other. Her stories are deep and gritty, with characters that don’t give up along the journey, be it challenging and formidable.

When Junie loses everything important in her life, except for a craving for alcohol, her second chance begins with a move to her Olla’s house, an out-of-retirement probation officer and a next door neighbor who isn’t what he seems. Add in some savory and supportive characters and you have a beautiful, redemptive story laced with spiritual depth and complete with restoration.

I already want to read this one again.

This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

"I reflected on my somewhere and decided it wasn't an actual place, but the people surrounding me."

The 21st T.I. Lowe book I've read and it might be one of my favorites. T.I has a way of bringing every emotion out of you. I laughed, cried, giggled (Henry is the best book bf), and even got scared (read it and you'll find out what I'm talking about). Her characters are all so 3D and they genuinely feel like real life people (i really wish they were, I could use a tutorial from Chris Evans on his sourdough and a hug from Henry). The threads of faith and grace throughout the book were woven in so naturally, never feeling forced or shoved in your face. It added depth and meaning into every struggle and circumstance Junie faced and made you root harder for her. What I love most about T.I. Lowe’s writing is how she balances heavy, emotional topics with warmth and hope. Even in the harder, scarier moments, there’s always this underlying sense that healing is possible and that you’re not alone. And Henry??!! (Ughhh did i mention that I love him) seriously, he set the bar impossibly high, he's so loyal and steady, also a major goof in the best way possible . I will definitely hold this book near and dear to my heart.

I have started this review twice… and deleted everything twice… because nothing I say can possibly do justice to the exquisite, heart-aching beauty of South of Somewhere. Yes, T.I. Lowe’s books always hit me this way, but there is something extra moving about this one. Like her other novels, I became friends with almost all the characters and engaged my inner sassy southern twang as the mental narrator. And because Lowe writes this broken, healing, and vibrant protagonist with such moving authenticity, I truly felt as though I was living every scene in Junie’s shoes.

Oh, the fierce love I caught for Junie from the first page of her story to where she is when the last word rolls around, and I wanted to hug her tight that whole time. But especially as we watch her leave rehab (and feel the range of emotions she’s experiencing at the milestone), as we go with her to AA meetings and cheer for her as she rebuilds her life, as we rejoice for her with each new contact she adds to her phone (because deep down, all of us want to be known, don’t we?), as we learn ever more of her story and weep for her and with her, as we hold our breath while she wrassles with temptation and loneliness. (And yes, I used the word ‘wrassle’ – it’s much less pretty and more desperate than ‘wrestle’ and the battle with addiction can get ugly.) I knew her journey wouldn’t be an easy one but that it would be powerful. I was right on both counts. Junie is such a genuinely lovable and real character that you can’t help but root for her. Not to mention the delightful people God places in her path to support her in her growth across this novel. I could talk about each one of them (and precious Fernie and Winston too) for equally as long as I’ve gushed about Junie, but I’ll just let you meet them for yourselves when you read South of Somewhere.

Bottom Line: T.I. Lowe has a remarkable gift for telling heart-consuming and uplifting stories about shattered lives finding their way back to hope, and South of Somewhere is among her most powerful. It’s the perfect blend of tough, tender and grace-filled, with just the right amount of Southern sass and humor to keep the tone from never getting too heavy but still treating the raw emotion represented here with the respect it deserves. Because Junie’s path toward recovery and restoration IS emotional, messy, courageous, and authentic, and I found myself cheering for her – and believing in her – every step of the way. I fell in love with Junie as well as with those friendships and co-journeyers who add warmth, wit, and wisdom and even a little romance when her story needs an extra dose of light. And my whole heart smiled at the cameos by three of my favorite characters from another of Lowe’s recent books. South of Somewhere is truly special, y’all. Make sure it’s at the top of your TBR list.

This is a really good story. I am always pulled into any story that T.I. Lowe writes. She is truly gifted.
This story is a bit different. It is mostly a story of a person who was addicted to alcohol as she goes through life and the recovery program successfully. It is the opposite of a smooth journey. Junie has lots of ups and downs and she needs much support. She is strong enough though to realize what she needs and works hard to create a new life for herself.
The characters are varied and interesting. And the main characters, Junie and Henry are both talented yet quirky. They are strong and very likeable. And Gil was a great grandfatherly figure.
Their faith plays a large and necessary part in the story. I found it very interesting to learn about recovery and also the importance of good parenting.

This is my first book from this author, and I had read that her stories really stay with you… I have to agree with that.

This is such a powerful, uplifting, and hopeful story about starting over, second chances, and love.

Set in a beautiful coastal town, it really reminds you of the little things in life, while also exploring redemption and recovery from addiction.

I loved Junie’s character, the author did a great job bringing her to life. You can really feel her struggles, her growth, and everything in between.

Overall, this is one of those stories that stays with you.

SOUTH OF SOMEWHERE is a heartfelt women’s fiction story that I thoroughly enjoyed. As a frequent visitor to Charleston, SC, I was very interested to hear more about the setting of Sullivan’s Island in this story. I loved all of the characters. They were vibrant and interesting to read about. You can expect all of the feels from this one, you may want to keep some tissues handy!

T.I. Lowe knows what it means to write a raw and gritty story, yet one full of so much hope.

This book tells the story of a young woman named Junie and her battle - not only her battle AGAINST something, but also her battle FOR something. After a series of tragic events, Junie finds herself tuning to the bottle as the path to relief & numbing, only to find that path only leads to heartache and pain. But as she begins her battle against her addition and destruction behaviors, she starts a battle for her freedom, her sense of worth, and ultimately the joy of having her precious daughter with her again.

This story so clearly portrays the reality of the fierce fight that that so often characterizes the path to sobriety. And for those that are determined to be free, how important prayer, community support, and healthy outlets are in being victorious.

This story was written with vulnerability and rawness, but also with compassion and tenderness. Though I didn’t directly relate to Junie’s struggles, I so appreciated the insights into what it looks like to walk well alongside someone you love as they battle. Junie had various types of relationships with the characters, from beneficial & supportive, to harsh & blaming, to toxic & destructive, and I found it fascinating to see how they each either helped her hindered her journey.

This immersive technique shines brilliantly in Lowe’s latest release, South of Somewhere, where she introduces readers to Juniper Wilder, a woman on the road to redemption. Juniper’s journey has been marked by overwhelming grief that led to an addiction, an arrest for drunk driving, time in jail, and court-mandated rehab, and most painfull, the loss of her daughter’s custody. Lowe masterfully unfolds Juniper’s path toward healing, accompanied by a cast of compelling characters who stand by her side. Will the road be easy? Certainly not. Will she face moments of despair that tempt her to give up? More than once! Yet, along the way Juniper discovers she has a loyal band of heroes to walk with her, holding her accountable. I will say I was deeply moved by how this book played out. This is the perfect story anyone who has ever had to overcome personal challenges in order to move forward with their life. You really have to admire the main fmc Junie as she tries to rebuild her life. It isn't easy with her unsupportive brother and parents. she also faces temptation when faced with stress. However with her supportive neighbor and her very involved probation officer she can survive just about anything.

While I really enjoyed this book I felt like I already read it. Last year I read Catch Us When We Fall by Juliette Fay and this book reminded me so much of that one. Widowed, single parenting, extreme additional, friends to romance, support group to found family, etc etc.

I’ve yet to read a T. I. Lowe book I didn’t love and South of Somewhere might be one of my favorites yet. Raw, emotional and beautifully written, this story completely pulled me in and didn’t let go. Tackling the heavy reality of life after addiction, it's a story of restoration, hope and second chances.

(ETA: Tandem read this as an e-book while listening to the audiobook. Loved the narrator!)

Junie is one of those characters who just stays with you. Her story is layered with loss, heartbreak, and hard consequences, but also determination, resilience and grit. From losing her grandmother and husband at young age to fighting her way back after addiction and the loss of custody of her small child, I couldn’t help but root for her. She’s relatable, snarky and deeply human.

With a whole host of quirky, lovable (and not so lovable) side characters, I truly loved witnessing Junie's tiny world expand and grow into people who supported her as she faced life on her own, rebuilding life one step at a time. Henry, Junie's sweet and slightly rumpled best-selling author neighbor, was adorable and I couldn't have loved their slow burn romance more. Gilbert, Junie's retiree probation officer brought unexpected warmth as well, as did the entire MNS group and other notable characters, like Betty and Winston (the dog!).

Of course, no T.I. Lowe story is complete without the ambiance of the south which rings true in tomato cracker salad and sandwiches, the low country, island life and southern, coastal setting that makes this the perfect summer beach read!

Can't recommend this one enough, friends - it's just so good and I'll be talking about it for a long time to come.

This book dove into the consequences and road to recovery of an addict/alcoholic. As I read this story and put myself into Junie's shoes, my heart hurt for her as she painstakingly walked the hard road to regaining custody of her daughter after making some really bad choices.

This has quickly became one of my favourite T.I. Lowe books! It evoked so many feelings; heartbreak, amusement, anger, sadness, and joy! The romance was lighter than what I usually prefer but the main storyline pulled me right in immediately and I loved it; I was so invested in Junie trying to get her daughter back after owning, and working to right, her mistakes. Lowe’s storytelling was amazing and I loved Junie’s people and how they supported her, especially Gilbert and Henry.
