Drew Tao left the Black Hills in disgrace, banished by his father. He has spent the last ten years a lone wolf, living on his own. Called back home, he finally gets the chance to set things right. If such a thing is possible….
Betty Holden has hated her mate every day for the last ten years for abandoning her and their pack. She’s been running things in Los Lobos, and she has no intention of letting Drew Tao slip back into her life like nothing has changed—even if she has never been able to resist him.

Ten years is a long time to keep your mate waiting. With no word from her mate, Betty has lived a miserable life in a dying town. No goodbyes, nothing.
Drew has been miserable since he was forced to leave his pack and his mate. Living with humans has strengthened him and now with news from home, it’s time to return.
Wolf’s Return is almost too short. I enjoyed it and I understand that the world will continue to be built; it would have been nice to have the stage a bit more secure. Ms. Royce still did a great job to bring the errors of the past into the light and show how even mates can’t deny their pull to each other. She definitely has my attention and I can’t wait to read more additions to the series.
This is a short story; well it could almost be considered a short novella, it’s right on the edge The Black Hills Wolves series will be written by several authors, each gifting us with snippets of life in the town of Los Lobos. I’m looking forward to diving into these stories of blooming romance and the rebuilding of this small shifter town. I think this will is a brilliant concept and I have always enjoyed short stories written under an umbrella theme. It allows authors to have a set base to start with and since the readers already know the main backstory, the authors have the freedom to focus on the main characters, without significant world building. This concept heightens my enjoyment of short stories immensely.
Wolf's Return (Black Hills Wolves). After 10 years of banishment from his pack Drew returns to fight his psychotic father , the pack Alpha and return to the mate he reluctantly left behind. Great beginning to a new series. Can't wait for more.
When Drew gets the text that his father is dying he didn't know exactly what he felt. He certainly wasn't sad, but he knew he had to go home. Back to the Black Hills, Los Lobos, his pack and his mate. Alpha Challenge wasn't really on his mind at least not at first.
Betty, or B as Drew calls her has been trying to keep what is left of the pack together. She works hard to help those she can while being undermined by Magnum, her Alpha. No longer pining for her mate but mad as hell at him.
Trying to keep from her mate was impossible and the need to be with each other overwhelmed them both. However after the initial incredibly hot coming together, reason comes through and they avoid each other. Drew will have nothing or all from B, and she must make her decision.
This book will tear at your heartstrings as Drew takes on the challenge of rebuilding Los Lobos and his relationship with his mate.
Fantastic start to a new series. The prodigal son is called home. Drew was forced out by his father (the alpha) 10 years ago. He wasn’t allowed to say goodbye to his mate and to make matters worse he was shot in the leg as he was leaving. He has been called home because his father is being slowly poisoned. What he finds there is a shock. His mate is rightfully ticked off at him and the pack is a mess. His father isn’t on his death bed but he is as big an ass as he ever was. Can Drew overcome the damage to his leg to defeat his father? Will his mate and the pack ever forgive him? Can Drew rebuild the pack? For the answers to these questions you need to read Wolf’s Return. Wolf’s Return is a fast read. I read it in one sitting and then turned around and read it again. This pack has possibilities. For a quick powerful read you need to read Wolf’s Return.
Wow! what an intro to a world of wolf shifters. The exiled son's return to see the decimation of what was once a thriving pack. And the beginnings of how the pack will journey back to it's former glory.
The emotions of reconnecting with important people from your past as you work through how to live your future - excellent. So looking forward to the rest of the series, and how each author builds on the world of the Black Hills Wolves.
I always think the series are a bit different when done by multiple authors. It gives me a chance to see what other authors can do and most of the time I find new authors to love.
This was disappointing and ended far too soon for the Alpha's story. I didn't start this series with this first book, so maybe the way Drew challenged Magnum and killed him was over-promoted farther down the line. That challenge scene was very anticlimactic, in my opinion.
However, I did like Drew as a character; his narration was mature and he was refreshingly reasonable. I knew from other books in this series that I liked Drew as an Alpha for the pack; he was a strong leader but he had compassion, too. I think my first glimpse of him was in Paul and PG's story ("Broken Silence" by Jennifer Kacey, #42 in Black Wolves series). He was intrigued by how PG was able to draw Paul out of his shell and invited her to stay longer on packlands because it was clear he could see how good PG was for Paul. Drew was subtle in his encouragement and I liked how protective he was of Paul.
Back to this book-- I wish more detail was given for how Betty suffered under Magnum's rule, to better help me empathize with her character. From what was written, I didn't like her very much, but if there was more included about her day-to-day life without Drew, how she cared for the pack (besides just a brief mention of cooking and cleaning), and maybe a concrete reason as to why she never left...maybe then I would feel more for Betty. She felt closed off, like the reader was just skimming the surface as to the depth of her character; I know there's more to her. Her being able to forgive Drew for leaving and wanting to rebuild the pack with him was a good start to her "pulling her head out of her ass", but there should have been more of a story after they sort of made up. At least an epilogue of like a couple months down the line would have improved their story a little. The bones of the plot are strong, but the muscle of the actual story is weak.

Wolf’s Return was given to me for an honest review by Manic Readers
Drew returns home after receiving a text informing him his sadistic ass of father is dyeing by poisoning. What he finds when he get home is a practically decimated pack and a mate who wishes he was dead. He has a huge list of things to do:
1) Challenge his father for leadership 2) Reclaim Betty 3) Rebuild his home 4) Save what is left of his pack and recall those that have left.
The list is daunting and Betty may take longer to win back than the rebuilding of the pack they both love.
Given how far behind I am on my reading I am truly surprised that I got Wolf’s Return done on time, even with it being as short as it is and the fact is took me two and half days to read a book that would normally take me half a day to complete. Then there was the fact that I had opened Wolf’s Return twice since I got it and then closed it after the first two pages. Please, don’t think I didn’t like the book because I did like it but I had a hard time getting into it. I think I expected more intensity and tension in the characters, especially Ryker and Drew, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I think the story between Drew and Betty could have been longer because I sensed there was more to tell but Rebecca Royce seemed rushed in telling the couples story, at least it seemed that way with all the missing words. Yep that’s right; I would be reading along and BAMB!!! a missing word.
I want to give Wolf’s Return a four star review because it has the potential to be a great book if Miss Rebecca ever edits and expands the story line. But with all the missing words I am going to have to with a three star review.
After reading two books in the Black Hills Wolves series I figured it was time to read book 1. I wanted to know Drew's story after learning about him in Wolf's Song. The Black Hills Wolves is a troubled pack who has been ruled by a deranged Alpha for years. Drew was banished by his father ten years ago. After getting word his father is near death, the prodigal son returns to reclaim his place in the pack.
I liked both Drew and his mate Betty. Their reactions to the situation and to each other were very believable. Drew has to earn back Betty's trust. She is angry with him and yet the mate bond is strong. There were some steamy scenes. The backstory was well done and I felt connected to not only the main characters, but the general plight of the pack.
This was a fast paced story that I felt ended too soon. I would have liked the romance to develop more. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I did not realize this was a novella. There were a lot of errors and the story was not as well developed as her other wolf Series. I thought maybe that was because this one was written early in her career but it appears to be fairly recent. :-( there just wasn't enough of anything to really get into the story. It was just starting to develop and then it ended! I also like the relationship that people had with their wolves in the other series. I just don't know that I can get into this one after having read the other one which was better.
Anderw "Drew" Tao was banished by his Alpha father 10years ago. He was not strong enough to take on his father and it was the only way he could see to protect his mate and her family. His father is dying. Bear shifter Gee, Drew's friend and mentor has summoned him home. Drew comes home to a pack that is falling apart. His mate B, hates him. Ryder his father's enforcer is there to test him. Drew has to kill his father to take the pack. Hope his mate can some day forgive him. Fast paced and a little steamy. Good start to this multi author series.
The book wasn't bad, but I didn't realize it was a short story or I would never have spent $3 on it. There are way too many other really good full length books out there for this price for me to buy another one of these by this author. And since it was so short, I didn't get invested enough in the characters to care what happens next.
the book was good. we meet a wolf who is coming back because his tormentor is dying and happens to be his father and alpha. can he do now what he couldn't do then. can his mate forgive him. whats next.
