Heir of Oberon

“People will do the most dangerous things and make the darkest deals for the ones they love.”

Devon Rionnaghan thought he had everything under control.

After years of war against a demonic horde that nearly cost his brother’s life and stole his chance at happiness in the Outworld, all he wanted was some peace and quiet. Not the prestige, not the accolades, and definitely not his father’s throne.

But then she stumbled back into his life and turned everything around.

Made the sun shine brighter again.

Made his dreams vivid again.

Until she found out his dark little secret…and he found out hers.

Roxi doesn’t know if she can ever look at him the same way again, and Devon doesn’t know if he stands a chance against the scarred memories of abuse and torment she suffered at the hands of a shapeshifter. If they’re going to make it through, the secrecy and lies must end—even if the truth is more painful than either of them are ready for.

The only problem is, they’re not the only ones with secrets.

And the mysterious man who controls darkness itself and announces he’s the ruler of an empire that doesn’t exist…

…isn’t the only one who struck a bargain with the devil.

Nikki Auberkett is a cultural anthropologist, developmental editor, award-nominated author, and lifelong lover of the fae folk. With nearly 15 years of research and exploration into global folklore and mythology, biblical archaeology, and all things weird and unusual, she weaves her research and social science expertise into her personal love for fantasy fiction.

Her most recent debut, Ithandryll, is the culmination of over 23 years of writing and revisions—don’t do the math, but she started writing it when she was only eleven years old! Originally intended to be one stand-alone book, it is now the first of a planned 6-8 book series, Song of the Sidhe. The estimated discrepancy is based on her main characters’ terrible habit of never following the map.

When she’s not finding ways to vent about human rights via mythological retellings or triple-checking her notes on ancient seafaring voyagers, Nikki can be spotted periodically throughout the city of Chicago testing her limits of coffee intake (she has yet to find one).

This is Book 2 in the Song of Sidhe Series, and it is an epic fantasy romance with an action-packed adventure just like Book 1. I love this series so much. Just like Book 1 this is a unique, captivating, and adventurous read. There are so many secrets that keep you guessing and so many twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. I fell in love with the characters all over again. Even the side characters are fantastic. There are so many questions that I know will be revealed in time! It is in no way predictable. Such an emotional rollercoaster in the best way possible. And the ending… oh my gosh, I had to pick my jaw up off the ground and I don’t know if I can wait to find out what happens. I need Book 3 ASAP!

Thank you so much Nikki Auberkett for providing me with a gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to get a copy as an ARC read from the author for my honest opinion.

This book so worth the wait. The first book left me wanting more and this one delivered. The world building is fantastic, the characters continue to grow on me and the story…. Just wow action, love (with just the right amount of spice), mystery, and deception. The ending once again left me wanting more and I can’t wait for the third book. This is truly a must read

I'm so greatful to be a part of the ARC team for this series! Heir of Oberon is riveting, full of magic, mystery, and surprises. I thorougly enjoyed how this book expanded on more on Devon and Roxi's past, it shows just how much they went through, and more specifically how hard Devon fought for their relationship. Now, personally, I was not a huge fan of the smut scenes. It just felt like I was reading poetry which is often confusing to imagine when it comes to lovemaking scenes and I definitely prefer things a bit more straightforward. Additionally, the overusage of orbs instead of eyes was such a turn off for me, but I think that's just because I'm a wattpad veteran hahaha. Roxi tends to use quite a bit of juvenile language, which seemed very out of place considering the tone the book is portraying. Overall, this was a fun read and a great addition to the series! I'm so proud of how far you've come Nikki and I can't wait for book 3!

The prologue had some major history drama!

You will never see Oberon’s heir. You will nevermore lay eyes on a woman who does not belong to you, nor will you see your own wives or children again. You cannot be trusted with the gift that is sight.

I will give you one small measure of relief. You will never have nightmares again. You will not be haunted with visions taunting you or excelling in ways you can only dream of. In fact… you will never dream again.

The talk of “Dreamwalkers” has me a little nervous because of some of the drama that Roxi has had.

So, Devon is Alex Black, some creature kept coming to Roxi disguised as Devon while he was off fight a war and basically broke her heart. Devon went back to his kingdom, broken hearted and thinking Roxi didn’t want him. Roxi had a miscarriage, moved to Chicago and tried to forget about him, now we’re finding out that it wasn’t him who was spewing all the hateful insults at her.

I really felt for her and how compared to the elves, she felt fat, but I loved that the people making her dresses seemed to love getting someone with curves for once and she got treated like a queen.

Roxi being Tuatha Dé Dannan and Fomoran made for an interesting revelation. The daughter of Lord Markis and I’m guessing her mother would’ve been “Fomoran” if that just meant a tan, curvy woman…

When Devon finally admitted that he was scared that she’d just fallen out of love with him and that, that was why he was so standoff-ish for a while. I just about cried when Roxi asked if she messed up by having a miscarriage. After everything they’d been through, I loved Devon basically going “I need to hear you say it” even though she’s probably said it five times already… “Yes, Dev. I still want to marry you.

Meryn was such a fun character, I loved how she helped Roxi and was always giving her a self esteem boost. Meilyssa being so excited about wedding dress shopping was extremely fun to read too.

Roxi becoming pregnant again made me really happy and nervous, I don’t know what fae do for care of pregnancies. Seeing Roxi totally kick ass with the swords made me proud of her and wish there actually was a video.

I wanted to punch Cassia for pointing out Roxi was part Fomoran, if she was good enough for Denvon, she should be good enough for the courts and it shouldn’t take questioning.

So it’s true. I’m Fomorian.

Yes. But. You are also Tuatha Dé. You are your father’s daughter, and that is what you need to lean on. That is how you survive.

Roxi’s powers… OMG I just imagined a glowing ethereal being that drove the shadows away.

When she did the eulogy for the man who kidnapped her, it just showed how deep some of the side characters were and I couldn’t help but feel for her and Kravni.

That’s why they put him on display for her, there in the tube of clear liquid that would mimic her womb until he was ready. He supposed to be in her womb. They couldn’t do this to her. They couldn’t do this to him. She pounded harder. She felt his heartsong reach for her. She felt his spark touch her face. She felt him forgive her. They appeared behind her, in the reflection in the glass between her and her child.

And she wakes up… been in a coma… goes to a mental institution and meets Devon’s BROTHER?!

Thank you to the author for the ARC.

Even better than Ithandryll! I was so happy that we got to see Roxi interact with more people and develop her own friendships. It helped with character development, as her non-romantic relationships allows us to better understand her personality, preferences and motivations. She remains a strong-willed woman with hard limits of what she finds acceptable, while still struggling with her confidence and her otherness.

The author somehow managed to lull me into a false sense of security; I was fully invested in the daily goings on. Then, all hell broke loose and the accumulating intriguing elements were suddenly brought to the forefront, making the emotional impact of that moment quite strong. As I said for Ithandryll, this series is a great example of solid romantasy: the romance does not overshadow the fantasy, and the stakes were higher in this sequel.

Now, I definitely prefer fantasy to romance so I did wish there was even more political intrigue and world building. But still, the fantasy plot was fascinating, and with that ending, I will definitely need to continue with this series.

One of the reasons I don’t particularly enjoy romance is the predictability of the ending, but let me tell you, this story is full of surprising twists and turns!

I think my only complaint is I would have liked to have a map 🤓

The book continues in the pov fashion of the last book, usually Roxi but occasionally from the pov of other characters. I especially enjoyed the pov of Markis in chapter 14, it added a lot of depth to his otherwise understated character.
The "my wife" bit in chapter 12 was delicious and had me kicking and grinning! Chills down my spine!
The parts with Krav were still confusing, I feel like we were missing a scene that introduced him in the first book.
I would have liked a scene with Mei after she created a portal. It was a bit of a letdown after making such a big deal over the fact that she made one.
I really can't wait to find out who the green gardener is!
The last few chapters had me in a panic and screaming!! "Brother"??? 🤯 "Realtin" 😭 Now I'm desperate for book 3!

A great second book in the series! On the surface, it may seem like the story is going to unfold in a predictable way. But there are a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming! Heir of Oberon was just as good as the first book!
This book picks up a month after the events that unfolded at the end of the first book. Throughout this book we get to learn more about Devon and his side of the story when he first meets Roxi. I loved seeing a little into Devon’s mind during this time. I won’t say too much more because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
The ending just made me want more and I can’t wait for the next book! I got to know what happens!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts on the book.

This book is the second book in the Songs of Sidhe series. I loved the first book, Ithandryll, Which left me with some questions. Those questions were answered in this book.

"People will do the most dangerous things and make the darkest deals for the ones they love."

That was never more evident than in this book with Devon and Roxi. This book was so intriguing and while I felt like my thirst from the first book was satiated, I was turned around at the end and left with another thirst for the third book. The storytelling in this book was amazing and I absolutely loved it though it left me wanting more.

Roxi had a way of getting to Devon and I was absolutely along for the ride. If you like a good story and even some werewolves this is the book for you.

The second book in the Song of Sidhe Series, Heir of Oberon, by Nikki Auberkett has you going through all the feels of betrayal, secrets, love, and desire. Even though Devon says Roxi is his fated mate, will Roxi accept Devon for what she learned? Are the lies easily forgivable?

I could not read this fast enough, and dear goodness I did NOT want it to end. There are so many twists, turns, and revelations that answer so many questions I had from the first book, Ithandryll. And the end, um EXCUSE ME I don’t think I have yelled “wait, what?!?” so loud before while reading (to quote my five year olds look on her face “Mom, you’ve gone bonkers!”) There is so much emotion and thrill, I’m ready to visit The Otherwold, please!!

Reasons why I love this book:
✨ Fae Realm
✨ Fated Mates
✨ Shape Shifters
✨ Love Triangle
✨ Spice
✨ Touch Her and D*e

** ARC review **

This book was just as good as Ithandryl. Devon and Roxi are amazing characters and their character development over the course of this book is a great read. Questions from the first book are answered in this but of course new twists and turns create new questions that make me wanting more. The ending had me absolutely shook though and I cannot wait for the third book.

I'm sorry. What was that ending? I need more. I need to know what happens. I feel like a glutton fox that was chowing down and suddenly got airlifted halfway through the meal.

The shocks I learned in this book (about Roxi... etc.) were wild. I never actually ball my eyes out because of a scene. I felt distraught.

Did I cry?
Absolutely and it wasn't pretty crying.
Maybe the third book can save me?...

I’m amazed at the amount of trauma this author inflicts on their characters!!!!

Roxi- forced to face the truth about the fact that he’s the same man but that he didn’t do those horrible things!? Also she has more magic and a bloodline that doesn’t make sense

Devon- all he wants is Roxi, and he doesn’t care what he has to do to have her and keep her safe! From everyone and everything! Even if it’s family members…

Plots twist and turn and between planning the wedding and finding out certain things (please remember Krav!?) and the ending …. I am mad at that cliffhanger!

The trauma doesn’t end. Ever. I swear this author is a sadist and us her readers are masochists! I’m intrigued to see what happens in book 3, which I needed yesterday!

Heir of Oberon picks up Roxi and Devon's story a couple of weeks after the ending of the previous book, Ithandryll.

Once again the world-building is on point, with more creatures, more (parallel?) realms and a massive cast of characters. So many characters; I almost think I need a whiteboard to keep track, as when Krav was (re)introduced I kept thinking to myself "Huh? Who is this guy?"

And that leads me to my one bugbear with this installment: pacing. The story moves along at a fair clip and that's all good, but there are a couple of points in this book where I think a little extra time drawing out the actions would have enhanced the tension, and allowed the possible repercussions of decisions made to sink in (for both the reader and the characters). Having said that, the image of Roxi commanding a warhorse was exceptionally powerful!

And that ending! Those last few pages throw so many possibilities into the air!

Many thanks again to the author and BookSirens for arranging the complimentary copy on which this review is based.

I have learned so much more with this book! Learning more about the back ground of the characters has been very enlightening and I can't wait for book 3. My only thing is the spice, not my favorite. If you're going to have it in a book, give me the spice and the juicy details! If not, please remove it, it's not doing anything for the book. But I have truly enjoyed this series and can't wait for the 3rd book!

I really enjoyed this book! I love the magical elements and the twists the author throws in right as you’re feeling like the story is coming to a close.

These cliffhangers are killing me though! I’m definitely going to be on the edge of my seat until the next book is released!!

Thank you Nikki for an amazing story, and for allowing me to be an ARC reader!
