Hallow's End #3

Kind of a Big Feeling

Rate this book
Ten years of friendship. One wedding. And a lot of feelings no one’s talking about.

I’m the girl who has it all under control…until it comes to Caleb Miller. My best friend since high school, he’s loud, loyal, and allergic to emotional responsibility. And for better or worse, he’s always been my person.
So when his brother’s wedding rolls around and he needs a plus-one to survive the family chaos, I volunteer. Because what’s seven days and one shared room between friends?
Except now we’re toeing a line we swore we’d never cross.
I’m still holding out for Mr. Right, and Caleb isn’t him. At least, not yet. He’s still figuring out what feelings even mean.
But somehow, the one thing I didn’t expect is the only thing I can’t stop thinking about.

Kind of a Big Feeling is a friends-to-lovers romcom full of bad timing, messy feelings, and holiday chaos. Perfect for fans of early 2000s movies, goofy boys in crisis, and the girl who always has it together—until him.

I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! The tension between the main characters was THICK!

I loved Ivy as FMC she is beautiful and unapologetically herself. I felt such kindship for how this bright bubble of a person who is so caring that she looses herself in being a good friend.

Caleb took me right to the edge of unlikeable and then in came the golden retriever energy. I do feel like it was very close to being too much of a juxtaposition of his character but he was so likeable you overlooked some of his earlier actions as immaturity (defiantly part of his arc)

**** SPOILER ****

The only reason i gave 4 stars is that i feel that Caleb didn't do enough to redeem himself and make amends but Ivy is very true to character for not needing much amends as she always saw him for who he is and still loved him, just wanted to be done playing games.

This is my first time reading anything from Patricia Prior and i will be devouring all of her other books from now on.

I love how she lists all tropes in the book description. Makes it easier to find what sort of book your in the mood for.

This book was funny and quirky.
Ivy was relatable and Caleb, was witty and charming.
Devil/Comet, the dancing, ice skating and the 12 step skin care routine were funny and amusing.

It had a few different things like the spiritual side of Ivy and gamer side of Caleb. I’ve not read much of that before.

Parts of the writing hit the mark and I winced during the key point for Ivy and Caleb. The story flowed well and it was easy to read and follow.

Fue un gran no.

_

Firstly, I'm very grateful that I had the opportunity to read this story before the release. Secondly, I haven't read the previous books in this series, so I won't be referring to them. Our main character, Ivy, is a very interesting character. It was interesting to see through her eyes and see how she perceives the world. She runs her own business with crystals, books, and herbs, which gave this book a unique atmosphere. Friends to lovers isn't usually my first choice, but I love the Childhood friends to lovers theme, which is included in this book. The Hollow End series consists of three books, and Ivy and Caleb's story is the last one. Even though I hadn't read the previous books, I didn't feel like I was missing anything in this story. Friendship is very important in this book, as are the relationships between people, which I think were very well-developed. The complexity of relationships can be incredible, and years spent with the same person can cloud our judgment. Caleb is the perfect character for those lost and afraid to take a step forward. Ivy is for those who help those around them, forgetting about themselves and their needs. This is sorely needed, especially in these times when so many people struggle with issues like fear of what will happen next and lack of self-confidence. I especially loved our main character. I'm not sure why her honesty and kindness resonated with me so much, but I adore Ivy. I aspire to be just like her. Is this a perfect story? No, but if you're looking for a good romance to giggle and kick your feet , this is what you're looking for. I highly recommend this book and I'll be reading the rest of the books in this series.

This ARC was my first read from this author.
The writing is fantastic and the dual point of view pretty good but the issue that I had throughout the entire book was that when the timeframe changed there wasn’t anything at the beginning of the chapter to let you know that it had changed you had to figure it out yourself or you would find it in the chapter later on. Also, there was a lot that went on in that story. I felt like the story wasn’t just about them having to spend seven days together, sharing a bed. We didn’t even get to see all seven days in reality. Now that was a big piece of the story them going on that trip and having to share the bed, but it wasn’t as big of a piece as I thought it was going to be.

Now for the good parts, I thought that Ivy was an amazing character. I loved her and how she learned boundaries and always stood for what she believed in and herself. I really enjoyed watching Caleb grow and mature as a story went on. I love the humor and the banter between the characters and honestly, I love the growth that you could see from Caleb‘s dad as well.

Again, this was a very well written story that just had a lot going on for me. I would definitely read this author again.

This book was magic. From the cast of characters to the small-town setting, you can't help but love it.

There was a point that I was worried I may have to give it a lower rating because I was angry at the characters' choices...and then I realized that just meant it was really good writing because the characters were perfectly imperfect, so real.

I saw a lot of myself in Ivy. The way she craved more, wanted to be wanted, wanted to feel beautiful. It really resonated and as such, I cried A LOT while reading this book and cheering her on.

I loved watching the growth in all of the characters and the way this book tackled mental health, men's emotions, and more. It was beautiful and meaningful.

This was my first time reading a Patricia Prior book, and I absolutely loved it! Kind of a Big Feeling truly gave me big feelings with every chapter. The emotional roller coaster between best friends Ivy and Caleb pulled me in deeper and deeper the more I read.

If you’re looking for your next read that hits you right in the heart, I definitely recommend this one—Book 3 in the Hollows End series. I loved it so much that I immediately downloaded the first two books and can’t wait to dive back into this world and keep the feelings going.

This was such a good, easygoing, quick read. The tension between the FMC and MMC was chef’s kiss—playful, charged, and impossible not to enjoy. The FMC was unapologetically herself in all the boldest, best ways, which made her so fun to root for. And the MMC? Total golden retriever energy. Think Elsie Silver’s Theo—sweet, loyal, and absolutely swoon-worthy.

I also loved how clearly the tropes were laid out. Everything was easy to identify and lean into, which made the story comforting while still being engaging. Overall, this book delivered exactly what I was in the mood for: fun chemistry, lovable characters, and a light, satisfying romance.

What a great book!! I just love Caleb and Ivy together!!! You can cut the sexual tension between these two with a knife!! I am so glad Caleb asked Ivy to go to his brother’s wedding with him. It gave Sarah an actual friend to stand up with her and not just the fake “proper” friends her mom insisted on.
If you haven’t read the first two books in this series, you need to! I am so sad that this is the last book in this series!! Highly recommend!!

I had the privilege of alpha reading this one for Patricia and even without reading the prior two, it was INCREDIBLE. Such an easy read, a true romcom, the characters were so fun and it made me want to read the first two!!

The characters were perfectly imperfect and I loved them so much. Can’t recommend this enough! I just wanted to read it all the time!!

It was such a delight to see the ups and downs of the relationship between Ivy and Caleb and see how their journey ended. Definitely would recommend!

This was a very pleasant surprise!

At first I thought I was reading a 'regular' fun friends-to-lovers romance with some good side-characters (I haven’t read the first two books in this series yet, so the characters meant nothing to me yet), great banter, fun jokes and a wonderfully judgy pet.

It was followed by some actual yearning (yes!) and the heat got turned up during wedding week. But then the author threw in some actual, realistic issues standing in the way for our main characters to be together.

As much as I like romance to take me out of the real world, I like it even more when romances keep it (somewhat) real. It made me read the whole book practically in one sitting, because I just kept wanting to know what would happen next.

4/5 stars because it felt like so much happend after wedding week that it became a little too much to properly feel invested in the way I felt the first half of the book. But Kind of a Big Feeling was a great read and I’m excited to read more from this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a digital ARC.

This is, by far, my favourite in the entire series! Patricia, you left us on an absolute high, girly!

Ivy is hands down my favourite. Everything about her! Her witchy vibes, sharp intuition, kindness, feminine rage, and every beautiful personality trait in between. It’s such a joy to have a curvy FMC who brings love, energy, and her own undeniable power to the page.

Caleb took me on the same emotional rollercoaster he put Ivy through. I hated him, loved him, adored them both, got the ick, fanned that bookmark, dropped right back into loathing, and somehow circled back to love again… and that is exactly why I thoroughly, bloody enjoyed this book.

Yes, I devoured the series in just a couple of days, but what I love most is that you can still enjoy this one completely on its own and get the full rom-com vibes! It’s such an easy read; sure, there are a few small cringe moments, but overall it’s thoroughly enjoyable. This book delivers more character development, a richer storyline, and a touch of rawness that really sets it apart from the rest and I am all here for it!

Huge thank you for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hallow’s End has come to an end with book three in the trilogy. Kind of a Big Feeling in the final installment in the series and features a friends to lovers romance. While I normally recommend reading a series in order, even when it's a standalone, I did not in this series, and it didn’t affect the read at all. That being said, I did find myself downloading the first two books because this was so good.

Ivy is the girl next store, or more apt, the unique girl next store. She loves her books and crystals, so much so that she has her own business dedicated to them. She lives life to the beat of her own drum in a way that many people (myself included) wish they could. All in all Ivy leads the average life of a book nerd, all expect her best friend Caleb. Caleb is just what you expect him to be. Loud, out going and loyal to a fault, so much so that they have been friends since high school. The man is anything but emotionally available and Ivy knows it, but their relationship works for them.

Until it doesn’t. Until a family wedding sends them down a path that they may have always been on, but one they both were too afraid to start down.

The agreement was simple: attend the wedding as Caleb’s date, spend a week doing family events and go back home. Simple right? Nope, not even a little. Together these two develop a deeper relationship than the friendship that they have come to cherish.

This was a first time for me for this author and I did enjoy it, it was a nice break from all the holiday reads that I have been consuming. Ivy and Caleb have always had more than friendly feelings for one another, but neither wanted to risk their friendship on the chance that something could go wrong. Watching Caleb mature, at least emotionally, was definitely worth the read, he is such a good guy and knows Ivy so well, however when the book first started, I really wasn’t vibing with him. Thankfully that did change, and he was able to win Ivy over. Their banter and giggly moments made the story feel warm and welcoming, this author knows how to write a good romance.

Secret feelings and repressed desired, Yes!! “Kind of a Big Feeling” by Patricia Prior has that. The Best Friends to lover book was a well put together book.
The Characters Caleb and Ivy were relatable. Caleb is such a sweetheart. Who just doesn’t see how good he is, or how he measures up to everyone else. It’s like he is just stuck with fear to grow up. Why take the chance when he could fail or get rejected. So he stays this guy that everyone sees as lazy or not serious about his future.
Ivy who is his best friend since high school sees him for who he is. This smart, loving man who she has been in love with and has waited for. She just wishes he would see her.
They do everything together. He knows everything about her. He goes to her when he is down because deep down he knows she’s his safe places his home. They were made for each other.
I think during the wedding that’s when Caleb realized that it’s time he needs to grow up. That he has been holding on to too much trauma that has been holding him back.
After the wedding Ivy needed to start thinking about herself and taking care of herself for once. She had some self growth to do herself.
You can’t make someone do something when you are ready, but also you can’t put yourself on hold for them either.
It was a cute book. I’m glad I got to see the growth of those two. I’m also glad I get to see that Caleb was able to fix or start to fix his relationships with his Dad and Brother as well. “Oh Boy,”is Caleb’s mom a sneaky little thing!!!! I 💚 her so much!

A deeply satisfying blend of cozy small-town vibes and swoony romcom.

I read this as a standalone but I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series now!

The tropes are perfection. Forced proximity, wedding week antics, golden retriever MMC energy, and a heroine who’s strong but secretly vulnerable.

Both characters are really relatable, Ivy is a typical 20 something girl with the same issues most people have, and Caleb isnt a perfect chiselled Adonis which is nice.

The emotional depth. Caleb’s redemption arc is handled with care—he grows beyond his charming playboy persona into someone who truly shows up for Ivy. Meanwhile, Ivy’s journey is about letting go of control and allowing herself to be loved fully.

The banter. I laughed out loud more than once, but also found myself tearing up at the quieter, more vulnerable moments.

The slow burn tension builds beautifully, and when it finally breaks, it’s both swoony and cathartic.

I'm a big Elsie Silver fan but for me this topped the Chestnut Springs series.

Kind of a Big Feeling is more than just a romcom; it’s a story about timing, trust, and the courage to risk a friendship for something bigger. It’s cozy, heartfelt, and bingeable—the kind of book you’ll want to curl up with in one (and I did).

this ARC was my first from this author but definitely won't be the last.

i enjoyed this so much. this story follows ivy and caleb who have been friends since freshman year of high school. i related to ivy so much throughout this story. ivy owns a spiritual bookstore and has always had to minimize herself to make room for everyone else. caleb is a guy who is scared of putting himself out there and has grown stagnant in their small town but keeps putting all of his emotional needs onto ivy. this book was so well-written and had such a unique storyline. the growth that both of these characters made seemed so real and the conflict felt like it had the perfect resolution. the confidence that grows in ivy and caleb both separately was really great to read and i loved that their resolution and way back to each other required a lot of work on his part to prove himself.

i think that reading the other two books would have helped a lot as there are situations referenced in the book in a way that left me a bit confused because i hadn't read that couples book yet.

i loved the ducks and justice for salem because he was really looking out for ivy until caleb figured himself out.

Book 3

Oh, Ivy, how I love you and your huge heart. If you’ve read the previous books, Ivy has been a constant presence, the supportive, funny, “let’s get the band back together” friend. And if that doesn’t describe her perfectly, I don’t know what does. She’s such a huge part of the magic in Hallows End (no pun intended 👀), and finally getting her story was the icing on the cake for me.

Ohh Caleb and his boyish charm. He’s such an honest character; it’s not easy to know what you want, not compare yourself to others, and navigate your own insecurities without letting them affect the people closest to you. I wanted to shake him so badly while reading!

With heartfelt moments, humour, ducks, and acceptance, this was an absolute joy to read. If you have an Ivy in your life, hold on to them dearly and treasure them. And yes… we do love a classic one-bed trope.

“She’s the only one I ever want to love.”

I also really appreciated the ending. As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, I’m a sucker for book series where characters overlap, and you get to see how their lives continue beyond the final page.

Thank you for the chance to read this! 3.5 / 5 stars
I enjoyed this a ton. First: setting is everything, and Hallow's End is SO cute. I loved all the intense small town vibes and the charm, especially how Ivy was attached to her more witchy side. As someone who grew up in that same atmosphere: it worked for me.
I am a huge friends to lovers person, and this was enjoyable. Watching Ivy/Caleb stumble through their emotions together and try to find each other, and Ivy most importantly finding herself in the process? Really cute. The wedding they attend is where I would have thought this slow burn would have bubbled over but no...it takes longer for these two best friends to really find each other.
I didn't love when they finally came together and then the third act 'break up' and arc to get them back together: for me this was really drawn out and full of some bullish-ness that I didn't really enjoy. I also wish I got to know the cast of characters better! I get this is the third in a series but it was also pitched as a stand alone, so that made it a bit difficult.
All in all this was fun and the HEA was cute.

After 10 years of friendship, sometimes the line between friend and more can become blurred. Ivy and Caleb have been best friends and each other's comfort zone for as long as they can remember. When Ivy agrees to be Caleb's plus one, their relationship takes a turn.

This book had me hooked within the first couple chapters. I couldn't stop reading to see what was going to happen and how things were going to go down. I loved the relationship Ivy has with her geandmother. They had a heart to heart that I think we all need to hear sometimes!

Caleb and Ivy's story was frustratingly amazing and had me going through a roller coaster of emotions.

It’s my first time reading one of Patricia Prior’s books, and I’m definitely going for more!
The story made me laugh out loud and cry.
I love that the FMC is a woman who believes in magic, stones, and tarot (I’m one of them too!). She’s also curvy, loyal, and an amazing friend.
Caleb, the MMC, is the classic playboy, but as the story unfolds, you start to understand why he’s like that—and it makes everything richer.
The yearning and sexual tension between them is just… OMG, everything.
You spend most of the book praying they’ll finally open their eyes.
And those ducks 🦆 and the grumpy cat 😾? They make everything even better.
Highly recommend it!

This book was super sweet. Friends to ex-friends/lovers to lovers just in time for the holidays is great! What I really liked, was that they didn’t settle for each other. He knew he needed to grow up and went to do that without bringing her further down, and she didn’t chase him trying to fix him. They needed to grow apart to grow back together! So worth the read!
