Dark and forbidden, Choir Boy features sexual servitude, dubcon, noncon (not between MCs), sanctified glory holes, initiation rites, invasive health exams, blessed semen, unholy use of crosses, and an altar nailing that has nothing to do with woodwork.
Isa, born and raised within the Shining Path cult, is a very good boy—except when he's naughty. He wants nothing better than to worship carnally with Father Malcolm and have the pastor initiate him to the pleasures of the flesh in honor of the Lord. The problem with snagging a pastor, though? It's not allowed. And Isa's sneaky attempts to have Father Malcolm for himself lead him to a carnal education he didn't sign up for but can't refuse.
Choir Boy is the second book in the Shining Path Cult series, and even if it's possible to read as a stand-alone, it is best enjoyed after first reading The Father.
Jay's an introvert and a weirdo who has always preferred the company of books over people. Pair that with a dirty mind and a brain that won't quit making up stories and you have Jay L. North.
Jay has always been a voracious reader, which is probably how most writers start out. In Jay's case, they began writing their own stories at a young age. When they couldn't find a book that suited their fancy they simply wrote it themselves - with varying results. Then they grew up, got a proper job, and almost forgot about their joy of writing. Only when they hit a wall after years and years of stress and an unhealthy work environment did they reassess their priorities and take up writing once again. And with a truck full of mental health issues, their stories are meant as pure escapism. They write spice and steam, and they choose to leave the profound and angst-y to others.
They live in the far north of the world where the winters are harsh and the forests are deep. They live in an old castle with their family which, apart from a few humans, also includes three Golden Retrievers and a small fire dragon. They spend their days happily reading (or writing) by the fire or walking in the woods.

I enjoyed the second instalment of the Shining Path Cult series. Although this is book 2, it can be read as a standalone because it's about a different set of MCs than book 1. In this book, Isa (Isaiah) has a massive crush on Father Malcolm, and engages in a sneaky little bit of stalking and sneaking to get the pastor to notice him. Throughout the book there were quite a few little promising subplots introduced (the vitamin aphrodisiac shots, the red rooms etc) and a few interactions that toed the line of non/dubcon without going over (in my opinion, as a dark romance reader). I had hoped for a bit more non/dub con personally and thought there were many chances to go there that the author didn't take. Isa is pretty innocent and I thought it would be fun to corrupt him a little more. However, using a masterful combination of cherubic looks. complete naiveté and intelligence, Isa manages to navigate his way out of the vast majority of the sticky situations in the book.
I like how the book features a cult (which would be normally be creepy and awful) in a tongue-in-cheek way ("“We’ve come to open your anus to the Lord, son,” Father Matthew said.") that is hilarious. There is a lot of sex in this book, and I'd say it's 'medium-lite dark' with our hapless MC Isa getting his HEA in the end.
Isa knows exactly what he wants and he also has a plan on how to get it. Unfortunately, he's bitten off more than he can chew.
Father Malcolm is such a righteous man that he stands out in the Shining Path Cult. No wonder Isa falls in love with him.
Choir Boy is much darker than The Father. I love Isa and was horrified by what he had to endure. But that's also exactly why the book got a five star rating. It's suspenseful, sizzling hot and emotionally challenging.
I hope there will be more books about the Shining Path Cult 😁.
This book was not at all what I had expected! Don’t ask me what I expected, but this wasn’t it. I think I was expecting taboo with no redeeming features or HFN, which this book isn’t. It is taboo however and handles some dark themes of ab¥se and manipulation. This book is about a cult in which young adults “choose” their path in order to fulfil their purpose. Some become communal “receptacles” for the Lords essence (yes, it’s what you think!!) while others choose just one elder or pastor. Isa has a huge crush on Father Malcolm and when his plan to show him goes wrong, he finds himself becoming a communal receptacle. In swoops Father Malcolm, who saves the day. Isa and Father Malcolm fight to get the leader to agree to their exclusivity. A little commotion and mild blackmail later, Isa gets everything he’s ever wanted. The writer draws you into Isa’s story and makes you want to know that it works out for him. However- the ending- is it a HEA if Isa is still in the cult, but just safe with Father Malcolm? Is he safe? The thoughts!!!! That epilogue 🤣🥵🫠
I was really excited for this one after The Father and it didn't disappoint. This book is about Isa, a guy who's part of a community that hides something sinester on plain sight, but Isa has only one interest in mind: Father Malcolm; and he will try what he can to get closer to him.
I really enjoyed to have a MC that is a bit less naive than Ollie in comparison to book 1 because Isa's curiosity and faith was a good instrument for more revelations from the scenario, although he is still being manipulated all the time. I was very interested in what else this fucked up cult would do.
I also liked the push and pull of "we can't" between Isa and Malcolm, even more when Malcolm lets loose his own sinister desires. Many elements from their dynamic and the smut scenes were super hot, such as the age gap and the build up of the sexual encounters. I even wished it went darker at times.
I'm really hoping this series has another installment. I'd especially love to read a book from the pov of one of the seraglio members, because that'd be hot and jaw dropping with the amount of possibilities. Overall, this was a really good dark erotica with an depraved background that is perfect for taboo lovers.

First, I have to say that I got the book for FREE thanks to the author, but that doesn't mean I'm not being honest. After all, he offered me the first part, "The Father," for free, also because they share a universe and some characters reappear; and I decided to buy it because I believe we should support authors. Like everyone else, I like being paid for my work.
That being said, my opinion of this book is that I liked it less than the first part. Is it because missing novelty? I don't know. In the first part, we discover the cult at the same time as the protagonist; here we already more or less know everything. In the first part, the protagonist is "straight" and discovers he likes "flesh." Here, the protagonist knows what he wants and goes all in. Perhaps it's because of things like this that I became disenchanted as I read, at least till two thirds of the book.
But not everything is bad (that's why I gave it a 4/5). When the protagonists finally como together, that scene is sublime. And from there, the author introduces new subplots, which I truly hope he explores in the third installment. Because I truly love the themes of this saga. I don't want to say anything else because I hate spoilers. Just as I enjoyed the surprises without knowing what I was getting into, I want to give everyone the opportunity to do the same. In closing, regardless of whether the author likes this review or not, and whether or not he counts me in for the next book, I will continue reading his works and this saga.
This is a dark, taboo romance that follows the twisted journey of Isa, a sweet and obedient choir boy, and the forbidden object of his desire—Father Malcolm.
After years of suppressing his urges, Isa finally gives in to temptation, making a bold move to claim something that was never his to take. But when his secret is uncovered, he’s thrust into a path he never intended to walk—one paved with submission, control, and irreversible choices.
To Isa’s dismay, the man tasked with guiding him through this new reality is not the one he yearns for. Instead, he finds himself under the authority of a far more ruthless figure—one who sees Isa not as a soul to be saved, but as something to be used.
This is a fast-paced, emotionally charged read packed with suspense, dark intrigue, and intense, provocative scenes. If you’re drawn to stories that explore the edges of morality, power, and desire—this one’s for you.
Choir Boys is the sequel to The Father, and in my opinion, it takes a noticeably darker turn. The story expands beyond the central couple, delving into more complex dynamics, and poor Isa faces some truly harsh treatment from the other Fathers.
Trigger Warning: This story contains dark themes, including non-consensual and dubious consent scenarios, as well as significant power imbalances. Reader discretion is strongly advised. Please review the full trigger warning before proceeding.

The Shining path actually hides a lot of dark places, dangerous secrets and forbidden desires. And unbeknownst to him, Isa embarks on it without actual knowledge how deep, how dark, he has to sink to get his dream fulfilled. The author has described Isa's story in a way that pulls you in and urges you to continue down the dark path from the first to the last page. And at the end, I was left with the lingering question of What the heck did I just read. Isa is unsolvable puzzle, a fascinating character who intentionally chooses his fate despite all the red flags flashing around him, what he witnessed and what he experienced - smart, yet naive, innocent, yet a scarily good, budding manipulator with a selective ignorance of what's happening around if it doesn't serve his purpose and observance he uses masterfully when it can serve him well. The extraordinary way the religion, ppl's beliefs and the true service to God are twisted into the story are rather heavy and triggering, dealing with controversial matters. This is in no way light and entertaining read, focused on the darks side of human mind in a Cult, where a single life is actually not important, just a tool to be used and @bused. I can't wait to see the continuation and what happens with all the characters in the next part of their journey to self Destruction.
“Aaah! Praise the Lord!” He groaned as he reached his climax. “I bless thee with my seed!”
Yes, Father Malcolm knows how to fill an a$$ and bless it.
Isa, our choir boy, wishes it were he who got blessed, he’s been in love with Father Malcolm for years.
Watching others getting from Father what he so desperately yearned for, made him brave, he had to do something about it.
Imagine a pulpit, a holy glory hole, a sneaky super horny boy who wants Father Malcolm’s holy essence…
Isa got what he wanted, but couldn’t imagine the consequences. What happened next surpassed his expectations. Things didn’t work out for him as he had hoped! Poor Isa 😔
In the previous story, we were introduced to rituals, ceremonies, characters and their interactions. This story goes quite a step further.
Well, this story surpassed my expectations also! It’s quite dark, I loved it, even where my heart cracked at some points. It’s dark, dirty, expect some dub and noncon, a lot of holy seed, power abuse, and waaaayyyy more!!
4.5 If you haven't yet read The Father, do yourself a favor and go read that first. It will definitely amplify your enjoyment of this story. This story continues in the world of The Shining Path, a fascinating cult, and it does not disappoint. While I loved Ollie's naivete (the MC from The Father), I just love how clever and cunning Isa is even more. There is plenty of filth (so hot) in this one too, but perhaps a bit more plot and intrigue and the combo really worked for me. And while I was really drawn to the darkness in Father Matthew (other MC in The Father), Father Malcolm is protective in his own way and I enjoyed his character as well. I look forward to learning more about The Shining Path!
This was dirty! :) But what can I say more? Like always, North delivers all the smut. But Choir Boy is different from book 1. It's darker but healthier when it comes to the main couple. The darkness is from outside forces and not one of the MCs. Still loved it and the smut was *chef's kiss*
Age gap, forbidden, priest x choir boy, high heat, medium burn, religion/church/cult, dubcon/noncon, virgin MC, naive innocent MC
I suggest reading book 1 to get more background on the cult/church and how their community works.
We get right into it with Isa, a 20 year old that grew up in this faith/community but has not been awakened yet and does not know what he wants his role in the community to be. He has a crush and obsession with Father Malcom and sometimes stalks him throughout the community.
I love Isa's innocence and eagerness in getting what he wants,
The dubcon and dark nature of this whole series is just so delicious. Loved seeing Father Matthew and Ollie again. I'm wondering who's going to be the next book. I can't get enough, love it!
