I was their perfect student—now I’m going to bring Bloodstone Academy down. Every generation of the Daygan family went to Bloodstone Academy, but it was all a lie. I was taken as a baby, manipulated and used, my memories and time stolen. Now they want me to marry Hemlock Mercury. Over my dead body.

Mazikeen Lycidas, Kane Ardian, Black Ashveil, and Valeron Drexan are my bonded. More than that, they are my fated mates—and I am half dragon, fire and fury incarnate. I will burn through every barrier to bond with them this year—again—and this time, I will not have my memories taken from me. No one will tear us apart.

Spells are going to save us, the Umbral Authority is going to fall, and shifters will be freed. Vengeance will be mine.

This is my fourth year at Bloodstone Academy, and it will be my last.
I remember—and I won’t forget. And neither will they.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author G. Bailey returns with the second installment of her new series—Bloodstone Academy Series is a dark academia romantasy for fans of witches who fall for their enemies and twisted worlds where “who did this to you?” is considered a love speech. You will find tropes like forbidden romance, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, fated mates and Dramione vibes.

*blows a breath out* welp. there is that. spoilers.

Quick question before I dive into this, does anyone trust ARC reviews anymore? I am at the point where if the only reviews on a book are ARC I almost don't pick it up until someone else does. I get wanting favorable press but at this point I can't even read them.
anyway.
What is happening this week for me and books. This has been sitting in my TBR since I finished book one and I just wanted to like it too badly I think. I had some reservations about book one and I only rated it a three but I really thought I would like this better once the plot got established.

We just drop right into the story, half the people don't remember what's happening then just chaos and confusion with info dumps for 281 pages on Kindle.

We get some more sexual scenes but we still don't really get that many bonding moments between the group. I mean God it was 280 pages with four main guys I didn't expect a ton but seriously? We get bits and pieces of information and then boom world blows up. We meet her family and get all this background that comes out of nowhere. She automatically trusts her mother rather than asking any sort of questions, and just magically she has all the heirlooms. It just all felt sloppy which makes me so mad because I've liked so many other books from this author, but to be honest I think maybe she's just making too many books at once and the quality I used to like just isn't there anymore.

Now usually I wouldnt care about pacing and some chaos that didn't really mesh well, but this story had a lot of potential and it just didn't live up to it. I wanted more of everything and I just didn't get that and to be honest no one was 180ish pages on Kindle this one was 281. I don't think there is much saving it in book three even with 300 pages.

A fun ride into the last chapter of this story.

Rate: 3,75/5 ⭐

🆆🅴 🅱🅾🆁🆁🅾🆆 🆃🅷🅴 🅻🅸🅶🅷🆃 by G. Bailey is the second book in the Bloodstone Academy series, and I had been excitedly waiting for this release.

The world-building, the magic system, and the way Vale so honestly hates her - and literally throws her out the window - just made my little black heart happy. Because of that, I had very high expectations for this book, as I always do with G. Unfortunately, I felt a bit neutral while reading this one.

I was thrilled by the idea of Juniper having her memories back, but everything felt rushed and a little too fast-paced. She is truly admirable - strong, fierce, and immensely powerful - and while I do love her, it felt like everything came too easily, with a slight lack of real difficulty or challenge.

I loved being able to learn more about the men, their pasts, and their curses - especially Vale’s story. And her bonding with Blake? He’s definitely still one of my favorites.

I really enjoyed learning more about the beginning of the war and seeing some truly despicable people turned to ashes. I’m also very curious about the Headmaster; I can’t wait to see if my suspicions are right.

The ending was completely unexpected, and I loved it because of that. I will definitely continue reading the series, and I truly hope the third book delivers an amazing conclusion to this story.

Side note: connecting this series with the Nexus series? Genius.

Thank you, once again, G. for the chance to read this ARC, I can’t wait to read the last book of the series, We Steal the Fight.

“You think I’m really your mate?” My eyes fill with tears. I’m theirs and they are mine. I’ve been looking for my people, for my family, for someone to fight for me, and here they are. My bonded, my dragons, and I’m not alone anymore.

“I won’t let them take you from me again,” I whisper, but my voice is firm. “They told me that the prophecy said I would fall for love or magic. Time doesn’t erase love; it only strengthens it. They gave us time, even stolen away, and we cannot be stopped.”

The wait for the next book in the Bloodstone Academy series has been killing me! Now it's finally here! Que me doing my happy dance. We Borrow the Light was amazing!

After the events of the first book, the world has gone topsy-turvy. It's like it's Groundhog Day with Juniper's first year at Bloodstone Academy being a magical redo. Yet the story is still refreshing and new. Only it's hard to know who to trust, and there were more than a few surprises along the way. Things have changed. The villains are turning up the heat, making plans. Juniper's ex, Lock, is still in the picture and acting exactly as I expected while also not. There was weirdness all around. Then out of nowhere, Gem just dropped a little tidbit about this series being connected to one of her previously released series and completely rocked my world. I couldn't have been more shocked. I have so many questions. My questions have questions.

Juniper, being the bad as witch she is, is causing a little chaos of her own. It’s time for a revolution with Juni front and center. The romance was amazing. The guys are very swoon-worthy this time, well, except for Vale, but I understand his reasoning. Black quickly became a favorite this time around.

This book went fast. I'm talking zero to ninety in about thirty seconds. One minute Juni was starting school, then the next thing I know, it's pandemonium. There were so many twists and turns; one in particular was epic! By the end, my mouth was hanging open like a goober. I didn't know what was happening. Gem left us on another wicked cliffhanger. Ugh! This series is totally addictive. If you liked the first book, then you'll love We Borrow The Light even more. It's a must-read.

We Borrow the Light, the second installment in G. Bailey’s Bloodstone Academy Series, is every bit as captivating as its predecessor, We Hunt the Night.

Juniper returns to Bloodstone Academy only to discover that her life is being reset over and over by a powerful witch—but this time around she alone remembers each cycle. Isolated yet determined, she must once again fight for what she knows is right: rekindling her bond with her four dragon mates, resisting a forced marriage, dismantling the Umbral Authority, and even bringing her mother, the Empress, into the Academy to wage war against the witches.

As the Umbral Authority realizes their control is slipping, they accelerate the timeline of Juniper’s impending wedding, forcing her into a desperate race against time. Allies must be found, rare spell components gathered, and trust carefully weighed. Maze, Kane, Black, and Val each carry their own scars, and their emotional journeys add depth to the story as they struggle to overcome their pasts and fight for a future with Juniper.

Bloodstone Academy itself becomes a character—its halls filled with both allies and enemies, leaving readers constantly questioning who can truly be trusted.

By the conclusion, the group’s mission begins to take shape, but separation looms large, promising even greater challenges ahead. G. Bailey delivers a thrilling blend of romance, danger, and intrigue that keeps readers hooked and eager for what comes next.

I have been eagerly waiting for this after the cliffhanger in book one but this unfortunately fell a little flat for me. I loved the idea that Juniper had her memories back and was looking forward to that being explored and using it to her advantage but the plot moved so quickly that it felt underutilised. The pacing was really fast too and it felt like that every time there was an issue, it seemed to be resolved by the next couple of chapters so the stakes never really felt very high.

I did like the small changes that were made to try and keep Juniper stuck in the illusion like escalating her relationship with Lock but swapping Rue out for Parker felt a bit odd. I liked Parker and he was a breath of fresh air amongst all the MMCs but he was off page so much that I forgot about him towards the end. I also liked the headmaster who is in the running for favourite character. There was a lot of exposition towards the end too; I am intrigued by the curses though and what purpose they ultimately serve which I hope gets explored in book three.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read.

In this follow-up to We Hunt the Night, Juniper wakes after the horrible events of last year, finding she remembers everything, her bonded are locked away in the dungeon, and she is engaged to Lock! *shutters* But Juni’s no shrinking violet this time around. She has a plan. She has—or is going to have—Maz, Kane, Black and Vale. She’s going to see it through, no matter what.

Wowzers, does this installment deliver! Juniper’s bonded might not remember her right away, but she’s determined to make them remember her—remember their bond. She also has a plan to take back Bloodstone Academy, unchain the shifters, free them all. What follows is well-written high levels of action, adventure, jealousy, romance, and heat. So Good! Need Book 3 asap …

We Borrow The Light did not disappoint and with that cliffhanger ending, it definitely left me looking forward to reading the final book in this series. This book picks up where the previous book left off so I would definitely recommend reading these books in order. I don't want to give much away, but Juniper is back with memories, powerful spells, threats that she falls in line and bonds that refuse to be broken. Kane, Maz, Black and Vale might not accept her truth at first, but they definitely feel it, but Lock isn't letting Juni go without using any means necessary. In this book we learn a lot about Kane and Vale curses, what happened to Kane's family and how Juni's innocent mistake had devastating consequences. We also learn the truth about The Umbral Authority and their need for power, the mindless, the enchantress, Juni being kidnapped as a baby, the death of her father, the reason why her mother couldn't go back for her, along with so much more. This story has betrayal, suspense, action, threats, deaths, great friendships, bonds, an engagement, mating gifts, heirlooms, reunions, truths, steamy scenes, portals, sacrifices and more. I can't wait to read the final book in this series. I think this is a series that paranormal romance readers will enjoy.

(2.5 stars)

I really loved the first book and was immediately immersed into the world. I loved the plot, the magic system, and the romance. All that mixed with the crazy plot twists and the cliffhanger I was sold. But for this one to kinda be set up as a repeat first book kinda let me down. I was bored and waiting for it all to speed up. Like yet again we start with Juniper entering the academy and being engaged to Lock. Yes, I know it’s different cuz this time she remembers but she still has to act like she doesn’t so it’s just reading a bunch of bullshit. It isn’t until right up to the end where important stuff starts happening like her finally being brought to her mother and her bonded an getting answers about how the academy people or whatever are EVIL and they are the ones making the mindless and they take control over the witches for total domination. This was happening in a complete other world she got to through a portal so now she’s separated from her mates with Vale and Kane trapped in the castle cuz to keep him alive they bonded themselves to it and then Black and Max evacuated everyone and starting the journey to find Juniper. So the ending did set up the last book well but it was still boring and only 200 pages so not a ton happened.

We Borrow The Light completely pulled me back into the dark, addictive world of Bloodstone Academy. The atmosphere is rich with gothic vibes, tension, magic, and emotional depth, making it impossible not to stay hooked from start to finish.

The characters continue to grow in complexity, especially the relationships — full of conflict, longing, and slow-burn intensity. I loved how the emotional stakes were raised, and the bond dynamics became even more layered and compelling. The romantic tension, combined with danger and mystery, created such an addictive reading experience.

The pacing was fast, the world-building immersive, and the cliffhanger left me desperate for more. While I wished for a little more depth in certain moments, the story still delivered powerful emotions, engaging twists, and that signature G. Bailey magic.

If you love dark academia, enemies-to-lovers, magical academies, and emotionally charged romantasy, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

✨ Final thoughts: Dark, intense, magical, and addictive — a strong four-star read that left me craving the next book.

In all honesty, I haven’t read book one. But I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to pick this book up and start reading. Everything pieced itself together quickly and naturally, and I never felt lost.

I really loved the dynamic of this group. The FMC is not passive at all — they fight for her, but she fights just as hard for them, and that balance really worked for me. There are darker themes of abuse present, so as always, check the content warnings if that’s something you prefer to avoid.

I found this book easy to read, fast-paced, and well-balanced when it came to romance versus plot. There was a twist toward the end that I absolutely did not see coming, and it genuinely blew my mind.

This isn’t a groundbreaking or brand-new concept, and it’s not the best book I’ve ever read — but I had a great time. I’d be keen to go back and read book one and continue on with the rest of the series.

Thank you to the Author for providing me with an Advanced Reader copy.

The twists and turns that this book took, had me rattled. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was completely mistaken!

Juniper is back at Bloodstone Academy, but she remembers everything! She is not going to let them keep her from her bonded and force her into a marriage with Lock. I really disliked Lock, he deserved what he got and even then some.

What I enjoyed was the big twist when two worlds collided! (IFYKYK) I definitely did not see that coming. And finding out more about the Enchantress was also a great reveal.

There was action, deception and some spicy moments.

I am intrigued to find out more of the Headmaster's involvement - i have some suspicions..

But I was sad to finish as it is now time to wait for the next book.

I cannot wait for book 3, so many questions were answered, but still so many more to find out.

I've been so excited for book 2 in The Bloodstone Academy series, I made sure to read book 1 again right before picking up the ARC. I'm glad I did!. I had already fallen in love with some of the characters in book 1, but book 2 gave me so much more. The character development was so well done. We can now understand why some characters act the way they do.

I am really enjoying the cross over between The Bloodstone Academy series and the Nexus series. Only mild but it's a really nice touch.

The yearning and turmoil between Juniper and her bonding is chefs kiss. There's just enough spice to plot ratio that neither is more heavy handed than the other.

We Borrow the Light is fast paced and kept me engaged throughout. There are moments of suspense, tention and parts where I wanted to scream at the characters in the hopes they'd hear me, in solidarity with them.

A very well done 2nd book in this series and I cannot wait for book 3!

MILD SPOILERS

I will say that before reading this book, I had to reread the first just because there is no subtle recap in the beginning like other fantasy series. I really did enjoy 80% of the book, but there were moments that I felt were rushed, as well as lack of moments between the bonded group.

I think with the book being under 300 pages, it made the story feel extremely rushed to the point where the storyline of the bonded group lost focus at times. The ending was heavily fast paced where you as the reader and the main female character received an incredible amount of information that felt like it was out of nowhere. It was one of those endings where a million terrible things go wrong for the main group in the span of the last 5 chapters, and feels unnecessary.

I will still say that it was a 4 star for me because I did enjoy the book and storyline as a whole, I just hope that the next book will not be quite as rushed as this one.

Book 2 is usually the book that makes or breaks a series. Maybe the FMC starts out as a bada** and in book 2 the author decides she hasn't struggled enough. This is not that book. Juniper wakes up on Day 3 with a plan to combat Hemlock, the council, and his mother. She's ready to go to bat and fight for her men.

We learn more about Juniper's mates and the individual curses they have that are related to their relationship with her. We also learn the identity and truth behind the sorcerous. I am also reading the Starlight Mates series which is excellent BUT I skipped the last book because it was 2nd to last. I also think I missed some plot that takes place in Bloodstone Academy. I love the world she is building other there so when I realized they were connected, I got excited.

G. Bailey is a truly excellent storyteller. That last chapter is going to make the wait to book 3 truly torturous.

I beg your finest pardon, but what (and I cannot stress this enough) could possibly have made the author do us so freaking dirty like that??? I. Am. Un-freaking-well.

We pick right back up where we left off in the first book with Juniper remembering everything after the umbra crew tries to wipe her memories yet again. Things are looking pretty f*cking bleak for Juniper and her guys and if you thought for even a second that things would be better for them for longer than a chapter or two, RIP to your mental state.

This book was amazing but also sooo depressing and soul-wrenching. Those plot twists and turns were super unexpected and clever. We are getting more information about the dragons, how they grew up, their curses and we are getting some solid deepening of the relationships. You can’t even pick a favorite of her men because they’re all just chefs kiss.

That final twist was diabolical, now I have to wait months for the answers that I need ASAP. Truly so sad.

So many twists in this book. I’m glad all of Juniper’s mates are on her side and not picking on her anymore/remember some of their pasts. Black is the favorite but Vale is too even though he wasn’t the nicest to Juniper because of his “curse.” Black is the only one so far that has “mated/marked” with Juniper. Readers finally meet the enchantress (Juniper’s mother) and her bonded. This book does time jump a little near the end so keep that in mind when reading and expect to be a tiny bit confused for a scene or two. Readers get a few chapters on Winifred too (her bonded are Aster and maybe the headmaster?) from the clues. Nexus and Vian are also mentioned too with a little mention of Gwen and her twin in the scene where they destroyed most of Starlight City.

We Borrow the Light pulled me straight back into the dark, chaotic world of Bloodstone Academy, where Juniper returns with her memories intact and refuses to play the role she’s been forced into. With trust shattered, enemies closing in, and a forced engagement looming, she takes control and fights for her bonded and her future. The story is fast-paced and packed with action, emotional tension, romance, and some genuinely shocking twists. I especially loved the bond dynamics this time around. While a few moments felt rushed and could have used more depth, the momentum made it hard to put down. The brutal cliffhanger left me full of questions and desperate for book three!

Such a solid installment. Our girl was supposed to have her memories wiped but nope, she remembers EVERY single thing, and it changes everything for her. The real question is whether her men will remember her too?? Will Vale once again throw her over the edge of the tower?

It’s a fast‑paced book that really ups the ante with the sheer number of villains that need taking down. Some are taken care of really quickly and I was a bit bummed there wasn't a bigger buildup and payoff. Am I horrible to want long agonizing d*aths?

There are definitely questions that need to be answered in the next installment.

First off. Good riddance to melody, Lori and his mom. Fuck Lork I wish we could’ve seen his death better.
Also, the world combining the author has done with one of her other series I like that she has?! Ugh genius.
I am on the edge of my seat to see what happens in the next and final book. How the nexus series world will collide with bloodstone, how Juniper and her mates will finally complete the mate bond. I also am nervous with that cliffhanger on both ends. For Juni and the guys.
Side note: am I the only one thinking that Wini is supposed to be with Aster and Luke?? Because Luke is obviously into her with his subtle hints and flirting.

Ok so I enjoyed the first book in this series but this second one is incredible. I love how sassy and strong willed Juniper is, she doesn’t take any crap from any of her dragons or anyone else. Her friend Wini also has her own little love triangle going on and I can’t wait to see what happens with Luke. The story keeps you turning the page, eager for more and I love the cross over between this and the Nexus series. Im really looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Even though it's been a few months since I read the first book, I was able to jump right into this one. I loved how quickly things started; I didn't have to worry about the character's situations for too long. I also really liked the mention of the author's other series with the Nexus mates. I'm curious how that might tie into future books.
There is a cliffhanger at the end, but it's thankfully not world ending.

If you love a why choose book with dragons, this deserves a spot on your TBR. Although it’s set in the same world as the first book (for plot reasons), it never felt repetitive. The story flowed so effortlessly that it felt like only moments had passed before I realised I’d reached the end. With a strong FMC, fiercely protective touch her and die MMCs, witches, a school setting, rebellion, and a cast of characters you’ll both love and love to hate, this book is an absolute must read.

Another year at Bloodstone Academy with Juniper and her mates, but this time it has not gone according to plan, despite the best efforts of the Umbral Authority. Fast-paced, action-packed and full of drama, the truth about Juniper and what is going on starts to be revealed. A mysterious headmaster and small creature add to the mix but there are many twists and turns that will keep you turning the page. This is a fascinating and intriguing series and I love it, both in terms of storyline and characters.

I was looking forward to this book and I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to reading the final book

I felt it was a little short in places. I missed her friendship with Win and in this book Parker being brought to the academy but that was it. I’m guessing he features in book 3

What was short? The whole reveal in the underground of the academy that she knew about the ring. I felt it would have been more enjoyable if we were shown more of the interactions between win, the mates and their plans leading up to it. It fell flat for me as we were completely kept in the dark.

I love Juniper and her dragon men. This book jumps right in from book one and takes off running. Lock is still pissing is off with his arrogance and Juni is taking no prisoners. But just as the goin gets good the brakes have been slammed and we’re left waiting in limbo to see what happens next. This has so many twists and turns it a definite worthwhile read.

loved it!

This was a quick read. I had been waiting for this book to come out and it was great. I wish some of the other characters story were told and since the book was fairly short I feel like there was a lot of room to elaborate. I have book 3 release date saved so I will continue this series.

Love it!

The second book in this series is full of action and fills in alot of the gaps left by the first book. Keeps you wondering what will happen next. Juni and wini and even parker along side thier loves (bonded and not bonded) are great. However, it ended again on a cliffhanger.
