Alvaro del Portillo was the head of Opus Dei for almost twenty years, from 1975 to 1994. In that period he gave numerous homilies and addresses, he wrote 176 pastoral letters, and had hundreds of conversations with thousands of people in Rome and on his pastoral journeys across the globe. His reputation for holiness is well-known throughout the world, with his beatification set for September 27, 2014.

Like Salt and Like Light is a selection of texts from Bishop Alvaro celebrating the centenary of his birth. These texts are good material for prayer or spiritual reading and enable the reader to become more familiar with his spiritual writings.
