Destiel Fanfic Very slowly, Dean turns. 'How'd you know I was here about a room?' 'Power of deduction,' says Castiel, leaning against the doorway. 'I mean, you're not after pot, and I'm pretty sure we haven't slept together.' He grins wolfishly, gaze sliding over Dean's body. 'You, I'd remember.' Dean's been hit on by guys before, but never so blatantly, let alone by a semi-naked dude in a kimono. A hot blush warms his cheeks, and he covers his shock with cockiness, tilting his head and grinning. 'Sorry to disappoint you, Cas, but I don't swing that way.' Castiel throws back his head and laughs. 'And you want to live here? What, did your friends put you up to this?' 'Actually, yeah.' Dean raises an eyebrow. 'Is that a problem for you?' I was going to say that this story packs a one two punch, but it's more a one two three punch. Humor, hurt, comfort. The tongue in cheek snark -- Dean/Castiel banter and interactions and effective geeky references -- reel you in; Dean's dawning realizations of his true sexuality and feelings for Castiel hold you in tight; reacting out against old hurts still hurting kapow!; pain crystallizing then shattering to reveal a new beginning pulling out the splinter. This story is a "gentleman" at least in that it picks you up off the ground after kicking your ass. The author is masterful in running readers through their paces without making them feel manipulated. Dean's and Castiel's characteristics in this story are swapped from their canon to great effect. It's amusing to think of Dean as the innocent and Castiel as the debauchee -- a little reminiscent of the post-apocalyptic episodes in which Castiel was so OOC as the free love hippie. The genius of this is that them having the opposite character to canon only highlights their essential roles in the show. Dean comes off as the oversexed badass but spends most of his time taking care of others. Castiel is a naïf with a direct line to God but he is lost and promiscuous in his search for a direction.
I'm not sure if this is a four or a five star read but for making me want to write more than a drive by review and to actually follow through on it I have to go with five.
Go forth and read this story my fellow fanfiction freaks and geeks! I don't see how you could regret it.
Cute, but the ending felt pretty rushed. I don't think any psychological illness like Castiel's can be cured by finding love, which was somehow implied here. Even if Dean had a magical dick, it does not work that way.
