Bingeable dark romance featuring a chilling cat-and-mouse suspense subplot from Italian bestseller and TikTok sensation Kira Shell.

Neil Miller looks for the slightest inkling that could lead him to uncovering Player 2511, the violent masked stalker threatening his family and his girlfriend, Selene Anderson. On one hand, the bond Neil shares with Selene grows stronger, unbreakable. But on the other hand, Neil is afraid his painful past will keep him from a full and meaningful life with her. Selene wants to know Neil for who he really is; wants to love him unconditionally. But he's used sex as a psychological release for too long, struggling to come to terms with his childhood abuse that haunts his everyday life.

When a revelation about his past overwhelms Neil's fragile ability to keep himself together, he turns his back on everyone he cares about and runs far away to find himself and regain some balance, torn between his escape and his powerful but undefined feelings towards Selene. But as Neil tries to clear his head, Player 2511 prepares his final assault—and he plans to spare no one.

After leaving Selene in Detroit to rush back to New York, Neil is forced to confront Player 2511’s latest attempt to harm someone close to him. While he tries to give Selene the closest thing to a relationship he’s capable of, he truly believes it can only be temporary, and that his past will get in the way of ever having something real with her. As she swears to stay by his side no matter what happens, the continued threats from Player 2511 have them all on edge. When a revelation from Neil’s past is brought to light, he is unable to handle the rupture it causes, and runs away from everyone and everything he knows. But even staying away from home won’t keep him or his loved ones safe in the end.

I swear I counted down the days for this one to come out, and when my book delivery was delayed, I ended up grabbing both the ebook and audiobook to finish the story as soon as possible. I honestly have no words for the emotions this book brought forth, as the author says in the end, I went from wanting to smack Neil one minute, to wanting to give him a hug the next. As much as this book was a love story in many ways, it was mostly about trauma, and how it infiltrates every aspect of someone’s life. Even when Neil tried to be with Selene, he never believed he deserved to live in Neverland with her, only visit and hope he didn’t drag her down into his darkness. The trauma was also manifested in his relationships with those closest to him, from the Krew, to his siblings as well as his parents, and for someone who had their trust so blatantly broken, once he loses trust in someone, there is no coming back. Despite all this, I loved the healing that also took place in this story, and that it wasn’t portrayed as a destinatio, but a journey. At no point was Neil “cured” of any of his disorders, but he managed to find ways to live with them, and finally let Selene in, dysfunctions and all. While this entire series had me on a roller coaster of emotions, the end gave me such a sense of peace I haven’t gotten in similar stories before.

This book deals with the extremely dark topic of childhood SA, and many of the themes discussed are heavy. Please check trigger warnings before reading.

Game Over is not an easy read but it’s an incredibly intense and emotionally driven one.

I was dying to get my hangs on this so I could see how it plays out and ends.

This story leans heavily into the darker side of romance while blending psychological trauma, obsession, and suspense into something that feels raw and, at times, overwhelming in a very intentional way.

Neil's past trauma shapes everything about how he moves through relationships, especially with Selene. He struggles with vulnerability, often using avoidance and self destruction as coping mechanisms. Watching him pull away, and try to rebuild himself adds a heavy emotional layer to the story.

Selene, on the other hand, brings a different kind of strength. She wants to understand Neil fully and love him beyond his surface level defenses. That dynamic creates a relationship that is intense, complicated, and sometimes frustrating but always emotionally charged.

The suspense element with Player 2511 adds constant tension throughout the story. There’s a lingering sense of danger that runs alongside the romance, making it feel like both a love story and a psychological game. This book doesn’t hold back when it comes to emotional impact. It explores themes of trauma, abuse, and healing in a way that can be difficult at times, but also deeply engaging.

It’s the kind of story that pulls a reaction out of you whether that’s frustration, sadness, or anxiety and keeps you invested through that intensity.

If you’re looking for a dark romance that combines emotional depth with high stakes suspense, this is one that will stay with you.

🖤 One phrase: chaos, obsession, and emotional damage with a knife to your throat.

This sounds like the kind of book that absolutely wrecks you. Neil and Selene are already carrying so much pain, and now everything is tightening around them with Player 2511 closing in for the final hit. What makes this one stand out is that mix of dark romance, stalker suspense, and heavy emotional fallout. My favorite part from the review notes you shared is how intensely emotional it felt the whole way through, fear, rage, sadness, disgust, all of it, which really sells just how deeply this book gets under your skin.

It also sounds like Neil is the heart shredder here. The trauma, the spiraling, the running, the struggle to let himself be loved? Brutal. And honestly, a book that can make you feel that much that consistently is doing something right, even when it is making you want to scream.

This book was such a great way to close out the series!
Was I extremely confused at some points? Yes but that just made the plot twist of finding o it who Player was so much better because that was not what I was expecting in any way! Thank you so much to sourcebooks for allowing me to read this on NetGalley!
