“It’s so addictive! I’ve read the Elsie Silver series and I think this book is so much like it. I added it to my booklist and gave it an 8 out of 10. I loved it. I loved it so much!”
“It's an awesome, fun, emotional, powerful, swoony, inspiring story. I absolutely loved it!”
Step into the dusty boots and warm smiles of a slow-burning romance where a cheeky (and hot as hell) cowboy meets his match—funny, fierce, and full of surprises. From Toni Dingle, a storyteller who knows how to blend heart, humour, and a whole lot of country charm.
“We’ll be best friends forever.”
That was Jayce Rogers' promise all those years ago.
From neighbours in nappies to smuggling booze from his parents’ liquor cabinet, we were inseparable. He was my person. And I was his.
Then, Handbrake Hannah rolled in, slammed on the brakes, and turned everything upside down. Now the handbrake’s off, and Jayce is barrelling back into my life like a bull through a busted gate. I want to stay mad at him, but it’s almost impossible.
Almost as impossible as pretending I’m not falling for him… again.
Shoving my feelings down comes easily. I’ve been doing it my whole life. And with our friendship hanging in the balance, I need those skills now more than ever.
But that cheeky grin? His cowboy charm? Those smiling eyes?
They’re becoming harder to resist.
Now, I have to tell him how I feel and risk losing him all over again, or stay silent and spend a lifetime wondering what if.
⭐️4.5 Stars⭐️ Head Over Boots is a fantastic rural town rom com, I loved the banter and the storyline will lasso your heart and not let go♥️ I was very excited to receive a copy of this debut novel from Aussie author Toni Dingle, it’s a real page-turner!
I really liked Jayce, he’s a helicopter pilot with just the right amount of cowboy swagger and he’s back in Rory’s life. Rory and Jayce were supposed to be best friends forever, they were inseparable as kids/teens, they’ve known each other all their lives.
Can Rory hold back her feelings now Jayce is back?
Loved the twists and turns and felt all the emotions.
If you want to read a great cowboy romance I highly recommend.
I'm still here talking #aussieauthors and #debutnovels! 🌸
So let me introduce to you @tonidingle_writes, author of the outrageously funny country rom com, Head Over Boots 👢
I love a rural romance right, but back it with banter and plot twists and a storyline that had me in stitches of laughter plenty of times and you have won me! I was engrossed and I literally did not want the story to end! 🫶
I will have mental images of some of the best scenarios in this book engraved in my mind forever! 🤣😂 and hold on to your reins because this terrain will have your emotions undulating!
@tonidingle_writes Congratulations! You stole my sleep! You stole my heart! You evoked every freaking emotion in me! 💕
Bring me more of this in my life! It's exactly what I need! 😍 and tell me something.... where can I find me a Jayce Rogers 😉
Jayce and Rory, best friends forever! That was the promise Jayce made to Rory, but is it one he can keep?
From nappies to booze smuggling teens, these two were inseparable until they weren't! It all came to an abrupt halt when Handbrake Hannah stepped in!
But half a decade later and Jayce is back in Rory's life and he's stirring up feelings in Rory's that she is finding hard to defy!
Is it worth the risk of maybe losing him again by telling him how she feels, or will she push her feelings aside and forever be wondering what if?
Oh my god. I’m sleep deprived- but in the best way! I was lucky to get an early copy of Head Over Boots and boy, it didn’t disappoint. I woke up at 5am this morning to finish it because I NEEDED to know how it ended. I didn’t expect to be crying and wanting to slap a fictional character on a Sunday morning before the sun came up- but it happened. What an emotional roller coaster 👏🏽 Bloody well done!
Two childhood best friends, an Aussie backdrop, and a strong, hilarious female friendship — this was always going to be a winner for me.
We meet Jayce and Rory as primary-school best friends living their best farm life in a small Aussie country town. But, like life often does, their paths eventually diverge, and Rory moves to the city to chase her career dreams. When Jayce decides on an impromptu meet-up, the age-old question resurfaces: Can men and women really 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 be friends?
This story delivered laugh-out-loud moments, genuinely sweet scenes, and chapters where I kept thinking, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦? The story is beautifully woven, with well-rounded characters that have real depth and heart.
I can’t wait to see what Toni has in store for us next!
No because the way my emotions need a month to recover from this book is so real.
I was not expecting the emotional rollercoaster - that was an exciting twist! I was however *hoping* for an epic love story and this fully exceeded my expectations!
Jayce and Rory were literally made for each other and I already miss them 🥹🥹 I felt all the things right along with them. The happiness, heartbreak, love, spice 😏 and everything in between.. loved this book so much!
Please tell me there’s a follow up book involving a brother and a best friend?! 🙏🏼👀
This book hooked me from the start and did not let go!
I love cowboy romances, but this one is top tier! Where most will end with the happily ever after after the love confessions happen and the guy gets the girl, this one continued on and supplied plot twist after plot twist and took me on an entire emotional rollercoaster.
The characters in the book were so well developed that it was easy to get attached to them, and to empathise with them throughout all of their ups and downs. I wanted to hate Jayce, but his side of things was written so well that you felt for him too and understood exactly where he was coming from too!
I 100% recommend this one to anyone who loves a good cowboy romance but craves a little bit more substance to the story!!! You won't be disappointed.
From the moment I dove into the early chapters, I couldn’t help but scream , “Ooooooooo, cowboy Jacey is a total heartthrob... count me in!” The story completely swept me off my feet from there!
You know the saying, “Save a horse, ride a cowboy”? Well, I’m all in, because this girl is ready to saddle up! 😜
Honestly, if that man uttered the word “pretty” in my direction, I’d probably turn into a blushing mess and snort like a giddy teenage girl!
Toni, I’m absolutely obsessed with this book! I’m beyond thrilled that you took the leap and decided to share your amazing story with the world.
Another incredible ARC read and my gosh Toni this was one hell of a read 🥹
I remember reading the blurb and thinking “I need to read that book ASAP”. For my girlies who love the Flawless series - do yourself a favour and purchase this book the moment it gets released!!
A story between two bestfriends who have known each other their whole lives. As kids they’ve gotten up to mischief but as they’ve grown older there’s no denying there is something more than friendship.
Ladies saddle up because there’s a new cowboy in town and his name is Jayce 😮💨 He’s cheeky but protective and has eyes for only one lady…. Rory aka boots (her pet name). This had me up all night wanting no NEEDING to see what happens next.
Also can I just say Australian authors are absolutely killing it!!! Bravo Toni and what a great book to add to the market - highly reccomended 🫶🏽
I am so thrilled you picked me to be an early reader of your first novel.
It was such a wonderful read full of childhood mateship, cowboy meets cowgirl, best friends, betrayal and hurt, laugh out loud moments.
You will meet Rory, a true cowgirl, loyal, fun-loving, always thinking of others, keen on becoming a vet.
Then there is Jayce, a true cowboy, larrikin, and always leading his best friend Rory astray. He is keen to fly helicopters and be just like his Dad.
They both come from the countryside and are following their dreams. There is a short drift in their friendship, but a few years later, they rekindle, but it's not smooth sailing.
I loved the twists and turns, never knowing what was coming next. It is so well written, and I'm so glad you persevered and published.
This book broke every single one of my emotions - in the best way possible.
I laughed, loved, cried, and then wanted to throw the damn book across the room all at once!
I wanted to physically put it down at some points for fear of the roller-coaster I was on, but my god, was this good!
I loved the Australian themes and how I could relate to the characters through their everyday lives or the highs and lows. I wanted to know more about every character, not just the mains! I want to be in their lives and see what happens next! The banter, the slow burn, the country living - this had it all!
There were parts in this book where I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, punch characters in the face or wrap them in my arms, and protect them from all their worries!
This book is the country dream! I absolutely loved it! 🥰
This book was so fresh and unequivocally Aussie. And I am here for it. As an Aussie, reading words like stubbie, ute, Drizabone, Brisvegas, fairy bread and sayings like "up at sparrow's fart" had me grinning like a loon. If you aren't Australian, you may need and interpreter but it's worth it.
It was written in dual POV but in a format I had never read before. The first 15 chapters were from the FMC, Rory's, perspective and then switched to the MMC, Jayce's, perspective before jumping back to Rory to finish out the book. It was really well done, I was expecting to reread the first part of the book but from Jayce's view but it was an effortless continuation of the story. This is an open door romance with a certain level of spice, but not super spicy.
The story was amazing, and the connection between Rory & Jayce was instant. Toni has created so much warmth and depth with her characters that I felt like I was sharing the story of friends. I was chuckling at points, smiling at others and yes, even had a tear or two (or maybe more) at times. I am definately looking forward to reading more of Toni's work.
Bring the 'twang of country music' into your home with this steamy romance set in the Australian country.
Jayce and Boots' friendship was a once in a lifetime friendship until another woman entered into Jayce's life. When he comes back into Boots' Life, the emotional roller-coaster begins, with issues of trust, friendship and considering what their relationship means. Their banter is witty and the writing in this novel is authentic. Boots' friend, Tessa is hilarious and the two have a friendship that will last a lifetime. Through the ups and downs of life, the two women come to realise what life with a sexy cowboy is all about.
Jayce and Boots' connection is deep and their story is brought to life within these pages. When a book is written from a place of love and personal experiences, the words on the page explode into a story. This story is one of heart. One of truth. One of passion. It's a passionate look into the lives of two friends whose worlds were separated only to be brought together again.
Toni's writing took me to a country setting that I longed to be, yet realise the challenges that people living in the country face. As she eloquently writes,'This way of life isn't for everyone. The days are long, scorching and unforgiving, carving callouses on your hands and stories into your soul.' There are no pretenses within this book.
Saddle up and get ready for a wild ride through the country where irresistible cowboys ride and boots are made to get dirty.
Holy fluff on a duck! This is the Aussie country romance book you have all been waiting for! I have a weakness for an unusual and captivating first sentence in books. Teachers call it a ‘Sizzling Start’ and this book did NOT disappoint. I was laughing immediately which set the scene perfectly for the rest of the book. The main characters had chemistry that was off the charts, and they would often find themselves in seriously funny and yet believable situations that had me laughing so much.
But I didn’t just laugh in this book, it also had my skin turning to fire, made me so mad I shouted at the MMC (and the author, sorry!) and cried as well. How can a debut novel do all those things? And when does the next one come out?
In this book you’ll find fated mates vibes, experience the harsh reality and beauty of farming and country life in Australia as if you’re right there, banter, hilarious situations, some delicious spice, a plot that takes a very unexpected turn (reason for the yelling), lovable characters that you wish you knew them in real life and a turkey called ‘Cluck Norris’. What’s not to love?
Do yourself a favour and pick this one up when it’s released on 16 August, 2025. It is such a fun time!
Thank you so much to Toni for sending me an ARC copy of your book in exchange for an honest review.
An awful lot packed in, but never entirely unbelievable. Spicier than I expected but also really, really well written - actual, realistic conversation, worded how people actually talk!
Oh my gosh! Toni you have absolutely freaking smashed it! It took me way to long to get into this book (life was lifeing the book tried booking but I was too busy🤣) but I have been brings reading it the last few days because I bloody adore this story so much! The banter, the giggles, the shock!!(how dare you) the overall vibe!
Rory is a sassy bold fmc who is missing her childhood bestie after he ghosted her. She moved to the city and ran from her feelings. Now he’s back - cue our sexy, sweet and hilarious mmc Jayce. He’s determined to show her that he made the wrong decision in putting their friendship on the back burner - but was he running too….
Toni hit the mark so well with the vibe of this book! The country setting, the way of the land and all that comes with it! The catalogue of side characters that build the story up so well. I honestly laughed at the banter, gasped at the shockers and cheered on my faves!
This gives me Elsie silver but Aussie feels and I fucking love it🤣
This book was super cute, i was able to receive an ARC copy which was just so generous! This second chance, maybe even third chance haha was such an easy read. Rory and Jayce grew up childhood best friends not knowing they were both completely in love with each other. Life happens and they found their way back just to come across hurdle over hurdle. Will their love and friendship stand the test of time? The banter was cute, and i love how strong the FMC was throughout the book.. And we all hate Hannah and I’ll stand on that hill hahah Coming soon! Must read if you want a fun light easy read with a little spice.
Set against the backdrop of Australia, this book was an absolute gem to read. It beautifully captured everyday life in a way that felt incredibly relatable and real, especially for Australian readers, like myself. The characters were authentic, and their stories were layered with a full spectrum of emotions — from laughter and love to heartbreak and healing.
What stood out most was how the author effortlessly blended light-hearted moments with deeper themes, making it both an easy read and an emotionally rich experience. The writing flowed smoothly, the pacing was just right, and I found myself fully immersed from start to finish.
If you’re looking for something that feels genuine, down-to-earth, and emotionally engaging, this book ticks all the boxes. A fantastic choice for a weekend read or book club pick — I highly recommend it.
If you love Elsie Silver, there is a good chance you’ll love this as well.
After their friendship broke down years ago Jayce is back in Rory’s life and their relationship is about to change dramatically.
I loved how the characters were written. Having grown up in a country town the behaviour and attitudes felt familiar. Also having moved to Brisbane it was great to see places close to my heart being referenced in this book!
I found the story flowed well for the first half of the book. The feeling of the book was light and fluffy fun from Rory’s POV and I was there for it 100%.
In the second half of the book the tone changed to deeply emotional and heavy as well as suddenly changing to dual POV to include Jayce’s which I found disrupted my immersion. To me it felt like the style and tone of the second half belonged to a different book.
As the second half stacked multiple issues against Rory and Jayce, I started feeling like it would be impossible for any relationship to survive this. The number of obstacles Rory and Jayce had to overcome felt a bit too much and were resolved too easily. I know if I was one of the MCs I would not get over it that quickly.
I found the ending satisfying and it finished on a light and fluffy fun note which made me really happy for MCs.
Once upon a time, Rory and Jayce were best friends. But Jayce’s ex-girlfriend and some bad decisions drove them apart. Years later, they found their way back to each other—but not without facing a few bumps on the road.
This book is for all the childhood-friends-to-strangers-to-lovers fans. If you enjoy this trope, I’m sure you’ll have fun with this story.
The reason for my rating comes down to personal taste. I love when a MMC yearns, when he’s pining and groveling for his love interest, showing her just how much he loves her. Unfortunately, Jayce didn’t quite check that box for me. I felt like Rory did everything—she forgave and forgot too easily because that’s who she was: a pure soul. But because of that, things felt too easy for Jayce, and I didn’t feel he truly showed her what real love meant.
Rory, on the other hand, was such a sweet character. She carried so much on her shoulders—from her family’s lack of support regarding her horrible uncle to Jayce’s problems—and she did it all with grace.
Despite my personal reservations, this was still a good debut novel. The Australian setting adds a fresh and vibrant backdrop that will definitely make you want to visit.
Head Over Boots was a delight to read - so fun, sweet and a slow-burn romance that completely stole my heart! I adored how Toni so accurately portrayed life in the Australian outback through the small-town setting and the country childhood-friends-to-lovers characters. The chemistry between the two characters was so heartfelt and there were moments of love, heartbreak and high tension - creating a believable story that was well paced.
The banter was grand and yet Rory's range of emotions and inner conflict felt genuine and relatable. Jayce was a MMC that I was rooting for from the start with his strong values and playful nature. There was the perfect amount of humour, emotional depth and well written spice.
If you want a warm, heartfelt romance novel with a strong sense of place and a feel-good ending, then this is the book for you!
Jayce promised Rory (boots) that they would be besy friends forever. What he actually meant was best friends until he got a very jealous girlfriend. Now years later, Jayce calls Rory looking for a place to crash while he finishes his helicopter pilot exams. Ofcourse she lets him stay, but can she forgive him and not bring back any of the old feelings she had for him?
Head over Boots is the perfect cowboy romance! It's laugh out loud funny, and breaks your heart, but gives you the happy ever after you need. I am not sure I could forgive Jayce again and again though, regardless of how noble he was being.
What a wild ride! This book had me feeling all the emotions! I laughed, cried and got frustrated with the characters at some points but man did it hook me. I love a childhood friends to lovers trope so I knew I would love this story. Rory amd Jayce had so many ups and downs and there were twists and turns that I didn't see coming. If you love cowboy romance with all the emotions then you're going to want to pick this one up!
A fantastic read, I could not put it down, i just had to find out how everything played out! Perfect blend of Aussie country humour, romance, suspense and raw emotion. Great country love story with a few good twists. I could read it again straight away!
