Sons of Wrath #3

Soul Enslaved

Rate this book
Imprisonment in Obsidius. Enslavement to a soul-sucking succubus. A reproductive cycle that’d send a sex fiend running into the arms of celibacy. Given the choice, most demons would opt for death.

Gavin, eldest son of Wrath, has been sentenced to all three.

When the succubus decides its time to collect, though, he fears his nightmares have only just begun.

And Sabelle’s timing couldn’t be worse.

With a bad case of uncontrollable lust, thanks to his Savidon, the last thing Gavin wants is a vengeful succubus stoking his darkest desires, but debts must be paid—he just didn’t bank on enjoying his punishment so much.

Because the swinging bachelor may have found his perfect mate in the sexy seductress.

However, just as things seem to be looking up, past sins resurface, plunging the two into a deadly game of power and deception. As their worst fears merge into one unexpected threat, Gavin is determined to protect Sabelle and win her freedom.

At any cost.

The Sons of Wrath series is a paranormal romance featuring sexually-charged, vengeance-dealing alpha demons and devils, the non-cuddly variety of werewolves, sweet-talking succubi, and some creepy fallen angels. You've been warned.

4.5 I Need The Next Book NOW Stars

Love, itself, is a beast that can make a man crazy with lust and insane with jealousy.
I know. I felt it once. And I swore I'd never put myself through it again.

PNR fans, if you haven't yet discovered this series, I'm not sure what rock you've been living under. What I do know is, you need to crawl out from under there and discover the incredible talent that is Keri Lake and her Sons of Wrath series. Trust me. Three books in and it just continues to get better and better. I would not advise reading these books out of order and the story develops throughout the series, and even though the author does a great job of reiterating the important details without sounding redundant, it's still better experienced read in order. With that said...let's move on to the review

Gavin is the oldest brother, and the one I've been incredibly curious about since the very beginning. While he seems to be the most balanced of the the Wrath brothers, he still obviously battles demons of his own (pun intended). After the events from book two and the trickery of a certain woman, he finds himself sentenced to the worst kind of torture in Obsidian...for the second time in his life. Worst of all, his sentence is for a crime he had no idea he was committing, but this is one sentence that just may result in his death...

Sabelle is a succubus unlike any of her kind; she hasn't taken a soul in her entire existence. She's a loving mother, a caring sister, and a hard worker that soon finds herself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Or in other words stuck between her what she's forced to do as a succubus and what she truly yearns for; freedom. When she sees a dangerous opportunity that just may give her the answer that she seeks, she's forced to call in her marker. When she saved Logan's life at the request of Gavin, she also gets to call a marker of her choosing at the time that she needs. And there's no better favor to be owed than one from a Wrath demon.

Gavin is plucked out of Obsidian in exchange for enslaving himself to Sabelle...but all she wants from him is his protection. Too bad that passion between them soon becomes too hot to resist...

For you, I would commit the vilest sins and revel in the flames of hell, if that would grant you some happiness.

This is no fluffy PNR book. Hell no! It's gritty, sexy, action packed and fast paced. It's also filled with so many twists and turns you will never know up from down. At over 500+ pages, it's long, and it's also completely unputdownable.

Keri has this talent for writing these broken, slightly tortured, and yet incredibly endearing characters. She also is able to effortlessly weave in a few secondary characters POVs without it ever taking away from the story. I was practically foaming at the mouth for the little insight that we got into Zayne in this book.

As for the rest? You'll have to read to find out ;)

But what I can say is this may have been Keri's sexiest book yet. Sabelle is such a strong and persevering heroine. You simply can't help but root for her. I liked her in the previous book, but she was truly a force to be reckoned with in this one. The things that she goes through were at times almost heart breaking to read. And the author manages to write it in such a way that it paints the picture in your mind while it hits you right in the feels.

Gaving was absolute perfection. I have nothing more to say on that. I adored him in this book.
I will side with the devil himself and gladly hand over my soul to keep you safe.

He was this combination of sweet, romantic, caring and yet with this edge of sexy that just made all the more rugged.

The story with the Sang and the rest of the supes hierarchy continues to get more and more interesting and I can't even imagine how much more crazy it will get. All I know is that I want front row tickets to the show!

The tease in the epilogue about what the next book may bring? FUCKING KILLER! Keri you evil genius, you. You tease us so. There's also the set up for Zayne's book which will pretty much leave you begging for his book next.

I am absolutely, positively, irrevocably hooked on this series.
You may have enslaved my soul, Sabelle, but you've irrevocably freed my heart. For that, I will always be in your debt.

It took me awhile to read this, not because I had difficulty with it, but because real life kept getting in the way. I had to put this down many times, even though I really didn't want to. I was hooked to the characters and the story. I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely loved this one!

It seemed like I had been waiting for Gavin's story for a long time, but it was worth the wait because this one was just so, SO good. Sabelle is single mother of two children, and also a soul sucking succubus. She is constantly harassed by her pimp and she can't take it any longer. She needs to do whatever she can to make sure the lives of her children and her sister Denya aren't in danger. She decides to enslave Gavin in order for him to help her and her family finally become free.

“You are an eternal part of me. No matter what forces try to steal you from me, I will call upon the very blackest parts of my soul to ensure that you remain safely at my side.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

If you have read the previous books in this series, then you are well aware of who Gavin is. Gavin is the oldest of the Wrath Brothers and next in line to rule the underworld. After he was framed for doing a horrible act that he never committed, he finds himself locked in Obsidian, the underworld prison where he is constantly tortured. He is let out when Sabelle enslaves him. As much as he wants nothing to do with the succubus, the strength of his attraction for her becomes too hard to resist.

I really loved both of these characters. Sabelle was feisty and very protective of her loved ones. She didn't back down and could give as much as she got. She was really amazing, as you come to expect from the heroines of a Keri Lake book. She was quite stubborn but I loved seeing her and Gavin play a tug of war because of it. Gavin was über sexy, and a very alpha Demon. I loved him so freaking much. He was also fierce in the protection of those he cared for. Both Sabelle and Gavin would sacrifice themselves in order to make sure the people they loved wouldn't suffer any pain. Together these two were explosively off the charts hot. The steam in this book did not disappoint me in the least. They weren't just scorching together, they also had many sweet and emotional moments.

“Love always prevails, in the end. Always.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

I think this book had a perfect balance of a steam, action, and suspense. I liked that the main story line was still very much present in this book and without overbearing the romantic story line. Things have definitely gotten a whole lot more interesting. Keri Lake is truly an excellent storyteller. I kid you not when I say these books just keep getting better. I loved every moment of all those twists and turns this book took. I am super excited about what will happen next. I really hope it will be Zayne's book, but I am also looking forward to reading Ferno's book. I can't decide, but whatever comes next, I can't freaking wait!! If you have yet to read this PNR series, I would definitely recommend you go start it now. You will be hooked by the steam and the badassness of it all. Seriously, you wont' regret it.

~~ There might be some spoilers concerning the previous books, read at your own risks! No spoilers concerning this one though. ~~

Holy shit. Keri did it again. My thoughts are all over the place, I have so many feelings for this book. It was different and not what I was expecting and, yet, everything I wanted it to be. It showed me that Keri is able to write anything she wants.

If you haven't read the first books in this series, I will advise you to do so because, even if you can read Soul Enslaved as a stand-alone, you will enjoy it much more if you've read Soul Avenged and Soul Resurrected.

The story:
If you remember Soul Resurrected, you know that Gavin slept with a married woman (she pretended that her husband was cheating on her and treated her badly) in his office (ring a bell?) and that at the end of SR, he was arrested for sleeping with her.

And in Soul Avenged, Sabelle was fired by Gavin from his bar, Sanctuary, and then, when he needed her help to resurrect Logan, he called her and now he owes her. And when someone owes a succubus, she is able to enslave them for as long as she pleases.

Sabelle wants nothing to do with Gavin and his brothers, she has two beautiful twins (Thomas and Janie) and she is the definition of independent woman, but when a bad situation presents itself she has no other choice than to call in her favor and enslave Gavin.

From this point on, Gavin has to protect Sabelle, just a little problem, his Savidon has started and having Sabelle near him all the time is not helping, at all. But they will get to know each other and what they'll learn will surprise each of them.

This is their story and it isn't perfect but it's real, and in the end, love prevails.

My (not so clear) thoughts:
Oh. My. God. This was so freaking good, I have no words. Keri is such an amazing writer and she surprises me every damn time. Her writing style is everything I like, it's clear, beautiful and unique.

Gavin's book is more centered on the romance and the main characters. Fear nothing, there's still plenty of kickass scenes with some badass lycans and the plot is present but Soul Enslaved is different than Soul Resurrected, in a good way. Keri will surprise you and she will blow you away. I know she blew me away, big time.

Gavin is everything I wanted him to be and still, he surprised me. He's strong, mentally and physically, smart, funny, he takes his responsibilities very seriously and he loves deeply. And he's a romantic. And he is so freaking hot, let's not forget that part, it's important. I absolutely loved him, I loved getting to know him personally, his past, his fears, his feelings. Gavin is an alpha-male, he dominates and, even enslaved to Sabelle, he was still in control of everything.
"I’m sorry, but that man does shit to me. He walks into the room? I gotta change my panties all of a sudden, know what I’m sayin’? Mothafuckers need to come up with a toilet roll of disposable panties for bosses like Gavin. It ain’t right the way he commands a woman’s vajay like that. I’m about to start calling him the Pussy Whisperer, for real."
Sabelle is another story. Like I said, she's very independent, she doesn't want to rely on people and she wants a better life for her kids. She works hard, and for a succubus, it's not easy to find a good job because the supes usually hate them, so she takes what she can and she doesn't complain. I loved her as well, she's different from Gavin, which is good. I have to admit that she annoyed me a few times but, considering her past and her personality, her reactions were to be expected. Still, she made up for it because Sabelle is a good woman. She's strong, she's loving and protective, she's not stupid but she will do anything in her power to protect those she loves and, sometimes, that leads to bad situations.
"You might be a trained killer, but I grew up on the streets of Detroit, bitch."
Gavin + Sabelle: explosive! I loved them together and what I loved most is that Keri took her time in bringing them together. It wasn't too slow and it wasn't boring, it was just right. Their situation is not easy, they both have secrets. Sabelle doesn't want a man, she has enough problems on her plate and she doesn't want to give false hopes to her babies. Gavin is no different, he has problems coming at him from everywhere, he needs to protect Sabelle, protect his brothers and his sentence in Obsidius is not over, he doesn't really have time to fall in love. But Life has other plans for them and she always gets what she wants, even if, at times, it doesn't seem that way.
"My brave girl."

"I’d have scoured the flaming pits of hell for you, Gavin."

"And I’d have perished in those flames for you."
Their relationship was beautiful, it was well developed, their feelings were not rushed. It was really really good. And hot, oh my god, it was hot. And not always private, if you know what I mean...
Once again, the story was really centered around them and their lives but, still, if Gavin was with Sabelle in the first place it was because Sabelle needed him to protect her. The plot was great, it was well written and well thought. There is not just one bad guy in this book, more like five. I got sucked into the story, I didn't want to stop reading, it was magical and intense.

There were some scenes...one in particular, just writing about it makes me want to cry. No joke. I'm actually crying. It was devastating, it crushed me. This scene shattered my heart, I actually had to stop reading and email Keri about it because I was mad at her for writing that. But, then, you know, that's why I said that their story felt real. Because sometimes Life can be cruel and takes from you, Life isn't fair. And that moment was not fair, it was not beautiful, it was not fictional, to me it was real, it felt real and that's why Keri is such an amazing writer, because she makes me feel so much and at that particular moment, I heard my heart break.
"His eyes watered, as he held up a hand, as if to wave goodbye."
Soul Enslaved is not always an easy read but it's worth it. So worth it. I would not change a thing, okay maybe just one, but their story wouldn't be the same without it.

The secondary characters were as amazing as the main ones. We have more time with the brothers and who wouldn't want that?! Each brother is unique and has this thing about him that makes you want to crawl into the book and hug him or do more than that. Umh.

Especially Zayne. MY Zayne. Mon bébé d'amour with his tattoos and piercings everywhere. This one is mine, Keri knows it, now you know it and if you touch him, you'll feel my wrath. He appears a lot in this book and I couldn't be happier, we finally can be in his head a little and feel what he feels...mon pauvre bébé (I like to speak french to him in my head).
"The black T-shirt he wore hugged every one of those bulging muscles, and his dark jeans gave the impression his lower half held just as much power as the upper. Tattoos covered his arms. His ears, eyebrows and lip glistened with piercings."

"Goddamn, that voice. Didn’t matter what the hell he said. Every word that spilled from his mouth was served like caramel over ice cream with a side of fuck me."

"He grinned, and holy mother of sexy rock gods, the guy could’ve started a drum-line of heart palpitations."

I cannot wait for his story because there are so many things to explore and he definitely needs his happy ending, though I don't know how I feel about his potential mate...if I'm not completely wrong, we do meet her in this book and I need to think about this.

You already know sexy and brooding Logan with sweet Calla ; there's Zeke, the man-whore who's still recovering from the events in SR, if Zayne wasn't in the picture, I'd definitely take him. He is his twin after all.
"Glad to see your near death experience hasn’t changed you much."

"Heh. Not even death … can stop this cock."
Then the gentleman, Calix, he appears a little as well, searching for Ava. I can't wait for his story, I want to know more about him and especially what's happening with Ava... I don't think we're going to like it.

We learn more about Maddox aka Mad Dog, the sexy Italian, he's hilarious and still mysterious. Loved him.
"The hell’s she wearing? Kinda makes a bastard want to lick the air." Mad Dog lifted his nose and sniffed.
And last but not least, Ferno. Holy shit, I want his story ASAP. I want to know what happened, why he killed Shey (Zayne's mate), just why he is who he is. He's punishing himself every day, he's hurting and you can see that he loves his brothers. Once again, if Zayne wasn't there, baby Ferno would be on my lap.
"A tall, muscled killer, and her sweet, innocent baby girl."
And Xander, sexy, naughty Xander. What can I say? I love him!
"I have a feeling this conversation is between me and your dick right now, and not your head. Well, sorta your head, but I mean your head, head. Know what I’m sayin’?"
Thomas and Janie, Sabelle's twins. The cutest. You will love them. I felt like Thomas had a more important role in this book but Janie has a scene with Ferno...the sweetest, one of my favorite moment.
"It’s a m-m-monster. A loud monster. And it e-e-eats the poop and pee. It’ll eat me."
Then there is Sabelle's sister, Denya. I don't know how I feel about her just yet and you'll understand why when you read the book... She's a big part of it and very important to Sabelle.

Lots of other interesting new characters but I just realized that my review is ultra long and I don't want to bore you, so if you want to know all of them, you'll have to read it!

Soul Enslaved is full of twists and surprises. Some things I did not see coming and I was never bored. Keri is good with her descriptions, not too much but just enough and, as usual, the fight scenes were awesome. Everything was amazeballs and I want more and more and more. Oh and, I loved all the French references in the book, you go Keri! The end will leave you feeling frustrated because you'll want the next book right away...unfortunately we'll have to wait.
"All I can promise is that I’ll kiss you goodnight—every night—and love you more every day. I’ll try to be the man who deserves you. And no matter what happens. Wherever we are, or whatever you decide, I’ll always be here."
Thank you Keri for sharing this story with us. It was beautiful, romantic, kickass, funny, steamy, heart-wrenching and pure you.

4 STARS out of 5
This book is Rated 'W' for Well Done!
Genre: Paranormal Romance-Erotic

4 Spell blindly sexy STARS for a SPECTACULAR third installment in the Sons of Wrath Series!
I had EXTREMELY HIGH expectations for this book. And Keri Lake DELIVERED! This series has been consistent with pulling me in and not letting go. With it’s addictive characters and the cunningly constructed plot lines that have been woven together with a continued theme following in to each book featuring new couples.

 photo SoulEnslavedfinal1_zpsbc7a66cb.jpg

Gavin is the eldest son of Wrath, a demon prince. Wraths are punishers of those who’ve wronged and each demon specializes in delivering a form of pain, be it mental or physical. The son’s of Wrath are feared by most and coveted by woman. Gavin and his brothers work on the motive vengeance. At the end of Soul Resurrected (Book #2) NOTHING is going good for Gavin.

For one he was sentenced to be imprisoned in Obisdius an underworld prison.
Second, he is now in debt to be enslaved by a succubus. Sabelle, a former employee who may just have an ax to grind with the eldest son of Wrath after being unjustly fired by him.(Succubus: a female demon who feeds off sexual energy as well as sucking away your soul)
Third, he is super close to his savidon.( a demon male’s sexual prime where he experiences uncontrollable lust and is practically forced to choose a life mate)
Basically the guy is FU*KED three different ways.
The collector has come

Sabelle needs Gavin in order to complete a dangerous mission. When things in her life take a down turn she finds herself needing him a little more then she expected to. The fiercely independent Sabelle now has a man who does not easily back down, watching her back whether she wants him to or not.

 photo soulenslavedfinalpic2_zps23cd645f.jpg

‘When it comes to fate, timing is a word that’s neither good nor bad and carries no infinite boundary. Her only interest is guiding you toward what you were born to do.’

The situation between Gavin and Sabelle slowly changes as they both realize who the other truly is. Sabelle gets to know Gavin as a protective caring generous man and he begins to see her as a wonderful loving mother who puts her children first above all.

Book2 Soul Resurrected: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

My Thoughts
While Gavin already owned my heart I assumed it would take time for me to adjust to Sabelle…Well I was completely wrong. From the previous book readers are left unsure of her intentions so I was leery. Yet in no time I fell head over heels for Sabelle and her protective momma bear ways. She was strong, independent and determined to do whatever was necessary to protect her family. She appealed to me on a basic level with her love and strength. Great job Keri Lake! You never stop amazing me! As the series pushes on it just gets better and better!

My Ratings
Characters- Sexy, Lovable and Mysterious
Writing Style- Top notch! Sucks you right in!
Plot/Storyline- Strategic, Layered, with a touch of mystery! Definitely leaves you wanting MORE!
Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 8
Overall- I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!
Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

Soul Enslaved by Keri Lake was one of my most anticipated reads of 2014. I have loved Gavin's character since I first met him in Soul Avenged. So much so that he made it onto my list of top book boyfriends before I even had the chance to read his book! <3

Soul Resurrected, the second book in the series, left Gavin in pretty dire circumstances. Not only is he enslaved to Sabelle, a soul sucking succubus, for saving the life of one of his brothers but he is also facing a sentence in the demon prison Obsidius for a crime that he never committed. To say that I was desperate to get my hands on Soul Enslaved would be a HUGE understatement! I had no idea how Gavin's situation would unfold and as usual, Keri Lake wrote a gritty, action packed, sexy, and captivating romance that I couldn't put down!

I think it is safe to say that I have never been so jealous of a fictional character in my life. Seriously, Sabelle is one lucky lady! I love Gavin's character so much and Soul Enslaved only reaffirmed why he is one of my top book boyfriends of all time. Successful, charismatic, devastatingly handsome, lethal when necessary, and an über alpha male are all traits that make Gavin irresistible but I think the thing that I adore most about his character is his loyalty, selflessness, and utter devotion to his brothers. <333

Admittedly, I was pretty skeptical of Sabelle when I first met her. Her sketchy work history as Gavin's employee and her willingness to enslave Gavin made me question her character's integrity. Soul Enslaved showed me just how wrong my first impressions were. Sabelle is a strong, intelligent, tenacious, and independent woman that refuses to give up her pursuit of a better life for herself and her children. I really respected the hell out of her and could sympathize with her desire to do whatever it takes to take care of her family, regardless of the risks.

I really have to applaud Keri Lake on the mind blowing world that she has created with the Sons of Wrath series. I love that even though each book is dedicated to a specific couple, she incorporates intricate, intertwining storylines involving other characters to set the stage for future books. And Soul Enslaved is no different in this regard. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series! =)))

While Soul Enslaved may have started out as one of my most anticipated reads, it is going to end this year on a high note as one of my favorite books of 2014. The series continues to get better and I really can't recommend it to PNR readers enough! If you are looking for something with hot, alpha male demons, badass heroines, sizzling romance, and a gritty, action packed story then I encourage you to give the Sons of Wrath books a chance!

IT'S LIVE!! If you haven't read the first two books in the series, now is a GREAT time to grab a copy! Soul Avenged is just 99 cents!

****Update 10-17-2014****
Having stumbled upon some inspiration for strengthening the story, and my need to write you the best book that I can, I regret to announce that I must push back the release of Soul Enslaved a couple of weeks. The original release date was scheduled for November 6th and given the length of this book, simply wouldn’t allow enough time to address the pieces of the story that would be affected by this minor change.

I will let you know an exact release date very soon.

Those who will be receiving an ARC will hear from me sooner.

My sincere apologies for the delay, but I simply cannot publish something that I’m not yet satisfied with.

Thank you all so much for your continued patience and support! I truly appreciate all the humbling messages and words of encouragement.

SOUL ENSLAVED was a very different animal than the previous two installments; the first half had more of a Paranormal Romance vibe to it with Gavin & Sabelle lighting up the pages with their personal conflicts, relationship tango, and fervid sexcapades. Then, the darker Urban Fantasy side of Keri Lake’s SONS OF WRATH series went all black hole on the happy couple’s sunshine by stealing their HEA out from under them in a big way. Several of this book’s aspects were reminiscent of Larissa Ione’s DEMONICA world, except with more gloom, so if you’re a fan of the latter, and could do with a bit more muscle, you’ve come to the right place.

I enjoyed this author’s take on succubi because she went well beyond the usual soul sucking nymphomaniac into uncharted territory by exploring their power structure, what it means to owe a debt, Priming, and something called Renoshza which is the equivalent of a demonic activation button (g-spot). There’s a convenient glossary to assist readers with figuring out what’s what, and although I did refer to it initially as a sort of series refresher, Lake incorporated detailed explanations throughout the story that makes remembering the various terms a breeze. Sabelle’s also a great MC which helped make her world even more accessible.

The preferred starting point in any PNR that features a group of grade-A males is customarily the leader, but instead Lake delayed Gavin’s tale until book 3, I liked that. It lead to a more three dimensional character with a well-shaped past, and the continuation of a secondary plot thread from a previous installment. I was thrilled with the author’s ‘show’ approach to this novel’s hero; she let his actions speak for themselves which gave readers a good idea of the man behind the demon prince. I really felt for Sabelle too, she’s been backed into a corner by her conniving pimp, wants to give her children a better life, and is prepared to risk it all.

A lot of the sex scenes found in romance can become redundant when you’re an avid smut consumer, so the ones in this novel are worth a mention because they are anything but vanilla. They come in a variety of flavours and levels of intensity that are sure to please. That being said, this writer is an expert in all things light AND dark, therefore be prepared to also experience immense loss, despair, and suffering. At least Zayne, Logan, Calix, Zeke, Maddox and Ferno, the other Wrath brothers, were there to pick-up the pieces of my shattered heart. Only to not be outdone by an ending that left me in complete wonderment.

SOUL ENSLAVED was as finger lickin’ good as it was earth-shatteringly sad. There’s nothing quite like Keri Lake’s story telling!

Gavin is definitely my favorite hero in the series up to date. I especially dig the whole RED Hulk thing he had going on. But I like Ayden, the heroine in Book 1 slight more than Sabelle. Maybe I conjured up a certain image of Sabelle since I first saw her in Book 1 and I am expecting her to be totally badass and sharp shooter. Instead, she is pretty much a down to earth mum who is trying to protect her children and sister. She only turnaround and impressed me towards the end.

Great plot though. Things are getting more out of hand with all the Sang, lycan, demon and human politics. I still can't see the big picture yet. But I'm sure is gonna be mind blowing.

Next up is Zayne's story. But I'm anticipating for Ferno's.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a date! 6th November XD

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was a little disappointed with the cover. This is not the Gavin I imagined since Book 1. This guy seems more suitable as Zeke, the manwhore, rather than Gavin, the elder brother and the man who keep everyone on their toes.

ARC was generously provided by the author Keri Lake in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of those reads that you can’t give away information because it would spoil the book. So I’m going to try and keep this as spoiler free as I can and yes this review will have gifs because I need them to explain my emotions.

Holy Smoke! What a ride this book was.

Gavin is the eldest son of Wrath, the demon prince. If you have read the earlier books you are then already aware of who he is if not then pay attention; he is the big brother of the group, always looking out for his siblings willing to anything for them. This includes not only going to hell but getting punished behalf of his brother and enslaving himself to succubus to save his brothers life. So when the poor guy finally wants to get some relief he ends up in even more trouble more. Now he is imprisoned in Obsidius (demon hell) and paying for that mistake.

Gavin as a character is amazing, he is not only sex on a stick but he is what I thought he would be from the previous books in the series with some extra awesome-ness I didn’t even think of; insanely charming, slightly devious but very smart in negotiations, very strong (and I don’t mean this in just the physically sense) and protective and from this book I found out how kind, possessive, funny, romantic and this one was a surprise a poet. Some of stuff that comes out of his mouth is extremely deep. Plus he's the boss

Gavin to Sabelle: "You are an eternal part of me. No matter what forces try to steal you from me, I will call upon the very blackest parts of my to soul to ensure that you remain safely at my side."

Sabelle is a succubus. The same succubus that Gavin fired from his casino and the same succubus that Gavin is enslaved to, not that she actually wants anything to do with him since she has her twins (Thomas and Janie) to care for but circumstances force her to call the favor Gavin owes her.

Sabelle is a great heroine, she so loving and caring with her sister and children. A great mother. She is strong and independent and feisty. She dealt with so many bad cards that life threw at her yet she carried on even stronger and more determined to make her children’s childhood and life better than the one she had. Which is especially hard because being a succubus means that people fear her and despise her because of her soul sucking abilities.

Sabelle to Gavin: “Love always prevails, in the end. Always.”

Gavin and Sabelle's relationship was not quite what I expecting but what it was infinitely better. They were great together. Gavin and Sabelle had this connection, chemistry and later understanding of each other. They were both in a position where did not know what was going to happen and a love or even a relationship wasn’t in the cards for them at the moment yet they couldn’t stay away from each other. Their scenes showed different aspects of their relationship; some flirty, some tender/heart felt, some hot and some tear inducing.

Sabelle calling in the favor results in Gavin getting out Obsidius which is great except this just results in all hell coming lose as well. Because of this plot line our couple get a lot of time together (almost the entire book) which I personally love because it shows the progression from how they used to be to far they have come and developed together. This didn’t mean that we didn’t see what the other ‘sons’ were upto, we did and those scenes just make you want to read their book and find out what will happen next. Two of those ‘sons’ are Zayne and Ferno. Both of them linked by an event and which has cause them nothing but pain and misery.

I really really want Ferno’s book not only is he a arsonist but a suicidal one at that and the thing that Zayne said to him might just put him over the edge.

Ferno sat, clutching his skull. Lost in his own hell.

Like any other Keri Lake book, this book also has villains some which we know and others who we don’t expect to be which made the story not only interesting but also gripping and fact paced. So while it was different from other books it was a great thing here.

Quibbles: Sabelle not telling Gavin the truth and later her doing a stupid thing but she made it up later in the book and anybody who has or will be reading the book will come across that part where you don’t want to hope but you do anyways just to see it get crushed. That part made me brawl, really it was tear inducing, heart and soul crushing event. It was written beautiful yet it was so cruel. This was me:

I have kind of gotten over this event (not really) because while it did happen I just wish it hadn’t so much!

Me: Sabelle and Gavin at the end

Me: That epilogue though was also a killer

To Keri:

Overall: This book had everything, love, hate, romance and fights with a good dose of suspense, twists that you don’t see coming and heart breaking moments. Another wonderful addition to series. I cannot wait to read the next book. Happy Reading!

Gavin, Gavin, Gavin...

Best. Book. Ever.

I've been dying for this book since I learned Ms. Lake was tackling Gavin's story. I was lucky enough to beta read. LUCKY indeed. While this is a long book, it's one of those you don't WANT to end. 'Course, Gavin is by far my favorite book boyfriend EVER. Can't get enough.

I love how Ms. Lake weaves in the stories of all the Wrath brothers, not just the one spotlighted. There is so much going on, so much tension and passion, yet it's easy to keep track of who is who. Why? Because each brother is so unique, with such a strong voice you can SEE them in your mind--in all their demon, hard-ass, kick-ass bodies. Tats. Metal. Abs. Yup. Major slurp-idge.

While I could go on and on, I suggest you just nab the first two books in the series, devour them, drool over Gavin, and be like me...CRAVE THE NEXT INSTALLMENT!

Could Gavin get any more luscious? You’re about to find out!
In the last book Gavin had been royally screwed by a conniving woman and even his princely status couldn’t get him out of his sentence in Obsidius….. except maybe the succubus who enslaved Gavin in exchange for his brothers’ life.
Sabelle has had enough and she wants out of the pimp/succubus chains she is bound by but in order to do that, she is offered a job which could earn her the freedom she so desperately wants. The job is dangerous but she will do whatever it takes for her and her childrens freedom so she decides to call in a debt from the boss of the vengeance business and all round bad ass – Gavin – the fact that she enslaved him could just work out for her, after all who would make a better bodyguard? Sabelle is the only one with a claim on him that can’t be overlooked so his freedom is in her hands.
Upon release from one sentence to start another, Gavin’s Savidon is thrust upon him and his thoughts turn to lust – all aimed at Sabelle – but sex would only complicate things even more especially when someone Gavin would rather forget dig the claws in deeper with an unexpected twist. Gavin isn’t the only one with troubles though as we see Sabelle in a different light and watch as her world crumbles down around her and she wonders at what cost will she and her family have to pay for freedom? As Gavin remains steadfast by her side, will the burgeoning love between them be enough to see them through the horrors they’re about to face and will Sabelle ever let her walls down enough to let Gavin in?

Needless to say – I loved this book!
I took an instant liking to Gavin when he appeared in book one and was desperate for him and Ayden to reconnect….but alas, Ayden was meant for another. Anyhoo, he definitely made an impact in more ways than one and I have been looking forward to his book ever since.
Book 2 ended on an uncertain path for Gavin, sentenced to Obsidius AND enslaved to a succubus? Things weren’t looking very good for the boss but that was until we got to know Sabelle more. By releasing Gavin to work off his debt, there is the thought that she will use him for her own ends….. she does but not in the way you would expect a succubus to as we find out that Sabelle isn’t the stereotypical succubus that everyone is aware of. Both she and Gavin had preconceptions of each other - neither positive – and during the course of the book, they are forced to challenge those and re evaluate what they ‘thought’ they knew. I didn’t think anyone would be worthy of Gavin but I was wrong, Sabelle is totally cool, she’s level headed, safe, all about family and so proactive in her quest to be free. She could very easily have succumbed to the temptations of the succubus lifestyle but she wanted better and not from any man. I loved the way she handled Gavin, he needed that kind of woman – one who wouldn’t bow down to him – and their chemistry was palpable. It was fun and sexy to see Gavin going through his Savidon around Sabelle, both trying to resist urges in different rooms – talk about sexual tension! The fact is that they do make an awesome couple, this will be cemented as the story goes on and we find out just how far they will go for each other and how much they steamed up my glasses ;)
The storyline was just as good as previous books, filled with action and danger coming from all directions, we get some new players introduced throughout and we meet some of the governing bodies of the world that make you wonder who the enemy really is. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again - this author is not afraid to write violent and gruesome scenes, some had me cringing at a few points in the story but I also love how she can off set those graphic scenarios by injecting the hotness, sexytime and tenderness throughout. I enjoyed how we have drama on both sides – Sabelle has pimp problems, money problems, problems with secrets, family problems, parenting problems, succubus problems – she’s got 99 problems and I’m afraid Gavin is one lol Gavin of course brings his own set of problems and some of them are unbelievable and what we already knew is only scratching the surface. What they go through takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster, believe me! and some moments really broke my heart in this – so be prepared for those feels. I also liked how we still get some of the brothers stories too and it makes me all the more excited for more books, Ferno & Zayne broke my heart also and it was hard to know who to feel for the most, so I can’t wait for those two books in what is an exciting, action packed series with a great premise, awesome characters and lots of sexytime that has tons more to give.

Okay, that ending is awesome. Even though I watched this angle of the story all lead toward the setup for the next book, that ending still packed a punch. Now I really can't fricking wait for the next one. It's gonna be awesome and totally fresh.

It pains me to do this - a 3 star rating

Though I was born a bastard, I try to be a reverent one. -Gavin-

Gavin the oldest of the Wrath is in a spot of trouble well actually a lot of trouble. Being burnt by one redhead, enslaved by another and stuck in Obsidius, the underworld prison leaves him little time for him to contemplate things.

“Pack your bags, baby you’re on your way to Disneyland.” Definitely a female. “Who… are… you?” “Nola. I’m a Divine Matron to the succubi. You’ve been summoned for payment.”

Sabelle is struggling with life she has been dealt a real shite hand in life. Abused by her pimp Jeven. Slimy bastard. She has a shot at freedom get the chip with the names of everyone who is a succubus back from the lycan leader Lachlan. Oh, and grab his soul while she is at it. She needs a bodyguard. Enter Gavin, the heir of the underworld.

I felt sorry for Sabelle and her predicament. There is a big discrimination going on against succubus not all it’s cut out to be. Hard for those who want to live a normal life not to. She is a strong heroine, sassy and has a heart of gold especially when it comes to her kids. But she can also be somewhat of an idiot.

A fantastic addition to the story here although I didn’t like this one as much as the previous two. It just seemed to drag and it took me forever to read. A good 100 pages could have been easily knocked off here to my liking at least. Something is obviously wrong with me when I see all the 4/5 star ratings.

But for me personally there was just too much going on here. What with what was going on with Gavin and his soul being cursed by Jessica. Fighting for Sabelle’s freedom and everybody being out to get hold of Wade Jackson’s journal. A new brother thrown in the mix. A villain of epic proportions Vissual. Denya being kidnapped although that makes sense for Zayne you know?

Although I didn’t like everything I still highlighted a lot of quotes.

Again I still have questions: Will Daddy dearest show up? Now the plot with the Sang thickens what is happening. A warning of a war on the horizon. How will it continue?

The one thing that pissed me right off Ms. Lake. See spoiler.

< spoiler >They terminated Sabelle & Gavin’s baby.

Wow. That was amazing! I don’t even know where to begin. I love the title because I was literally enslaved by this book. I only stopped reading when it was absolutely necessary (I couldn’t let the kids starve). I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read this. There were so many twists and turns, ups and downs that I never knew what was going to happen next. And I’ll admit a couple tears may have escaped as well. I couldn’t help it. I fell in love with Gavin and Sabelle and I experienced all their pain and love right along with them. Oh, I can’t forget to mention how HOT they were together. Sabelle is one lucky lady.

Besides the main couple, the Wrath brothers all play important roles in this story. That’s one reason why I love this series so much. The world building is phenomenal. I have a couple ideas as to where the author may take this series next. And I’ll be patiently waiting to see if my guess is correct.

Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, Lake has rendered me speechless...literally! I sat on this review for a few days not knowing what to write except that it is simply one of my Top Reads for this year, but I couldn't leave just like that can I?  So, I’ve narrowed it down to this; Soul Enslaved is seriously dark and suspenseful, romantic yet erotic, and it is honestly a magnificent read.

"Fate....is a bitch. Serve her up a pint of bad karma and you’ve got the quintessential definition of being truly fucked." ~Gavin

Gavin has screwed with the wrong girl and now, revenge and fate is coming to get him. His time is running out, but debts must be payed. Three things are eating at him. One is what he is destined to do. Second is curse that threatens his freedom and soul.  Last, the debt he wants to repay.  The funny thing is, the very thing he avoids like a plague may be what can save him in the end...Love.

Gavin is the first Wrath I've fallen for since the beginning of this series and his happy ever after was an anticipated read for me. It broke my heart that he and Ayden did not end up together, but I now see who he truly belongs with. They are similar and as opposite as can be but yeah; they belong.  Sabelle is one lucky beeyotch.  Gavin is everything a woman can ask for.  He is powerful, fearless, loyal, and hot as hell.  Daria, Sabelle’s friend, described him best. “…he has a tongue trick that would put the Jack Rabbit out of business...Many a bitch has raved over the man’s skills, let me tell you what. They say he’s got this weird flicking thing that hits the jackpot every time. Like a G-spot Garmin, or some shit.” He was also described as “master swordsman” and the “king of Cunnilingus”.  Luckly beeyotch right?

Okay, so she may deserve him. She is after all what Gavin deserves. As a succubus, she can sate his appetite and being a strong independent mom; she is also what he’s been wanting for some time.  Even if he denies it, he wants a woman and a family of his own.  I can also say that she and her kids are good for the rest of the Wrath brothers.

Oh, and for the rest of the brothers...well, their HEA is yet to come and it may get worse and all that jazz but in this installment, Lake had started to break their walls down little by little. I especially like the scene with Ferno and Janie.  The sight of a Wrath brother and an innocent little girl was too precious.  Ferno, is one Wrath I’m dying to know more of.  Up next, I won't say but the ending of this book will leave you antsy for more.

Though the Sons of Wrath is a strong PNR series, it has a heavy UF feel to it.  Some scenes are graphic, gory, and always action packed.  And let me assure you that everyone I've recommended this book to has nothing to say but praise. With that said, if you like PNR reads that is dark, edgy, sexy and emotionally charge, I strongly urge for you to start this series. You will not be disappointed.

Sigh! Gavin, my book boyfriend, you owe me a lot of knickers for this, you sure took your time romancing Sabelle (and us!). All I can do right now is fangirl like an idiot. I always knew you were a smooth Casanova & I never pegged you as the forever kind of guy. You sure surprised me here and I hate Sabelle just because and love her at the same time because you deserve nothing but the best.

Book whores who cant get enough of Alpha males who will only bow down to their Queen Bitch, you better not make the mistake of NOT reading SOUL ENSLAVED. Better yet, do yourselves a favor and get acquainted with the Sons of Wrath. They will destroy you in the best possible way.

Wow, wow, wow, WOW!! It’d be an understatement to say that I was eagerly awaiting Gavin’s story, and Keri Lake delivered BIG time! Diving back into her twisted and dark world is an experience not to be taken lightly, and I love that we always get something completely unexpected. This wasn’t the “let’s watch Gavin suffer in Obsidius and then suffer again with a succubus” that I was bracing myself for, because it was SO MUCH more than that, and I loved every second!!

So we all know what’s up with Gavin at this point; he’s done the deed with someone he shouldn’t have, and her husband was none too pleased, so Gavin is now facing the punishment for his actions…in demon hell. Worst of all, he was tricked into it, which makes what he goes through that much worse, and this is GAVIN. The eldest brother, who looks after everyone else and has a huge heart despite being a demon. I loved him in the previous books, so my heart was screaming “NOOOOO!!” every time he had to suffer this time around. Thankfully his time in Obsidius was shortened when a certain succubus who he owed a favor to decided to cash in. Sabelle needed help if she was going to make a better life for her kids, and calling on Gavin to protect her ended up saving him from certain death…for the time being.

Sabelle was a surprise treat for me, I wasn’t expecting to like her on so many levels like I did. Sure, you expect her to have some redeeming qualities that make you hope she ends up with Gavin, but she was much more complex than just a vixen with a soft side. A single mother of two, Sabelle lived a pretty miserable life thanks to her baby daddy being her abusive asshole pimp. And she wasn’t your typical succubus, seeing as how she didn’t thrive on consuming souls or need sex like a crack addict needed a fix. But there was something about her, a supernatural side that she couldn’t understand, that made her captivating to everyone around her. Including the eldest son of Wrath, who was about to go through his Savidon in the presence of a woman who made his demon want to stake his claim on every inch of her body! There was so much heat oozing off of both of these two, we’re talking molten intensity that makes you need a cold shower! This was definitely Keri’s sexiest book yet, and with Gavin as the MC there just couldn’t have been any other way!

What I loved about this installment was that we got a lot of time with Gavin and Sabelle really developing their relationship. They weren’t shoved into a perilous situation where they ended up falling in love because they had been through so much together. Instead, we see them enter each other’s lives one step at a time, from Sabelle’s adorable kids to her gradually getting to know the Wrath boys, which is always entertaining seeing as how Keri Lake’s wickedly twisted sense of humor comes through each of her characters. Sabelle is so normal on many levels, so it was easy to get caught up in her just having an amazing man who was being her hero. But then, that amazing man just happened to be a sex-charged Wrath demon so he came with all kinds of perks!

As we’ve grown to expect with this addicting series, there were many dark and cringe-worthy plot twists that had my heart racing and my stomach in knots. I will warn you, there are parts of this story, one in particular, that will be hard to read. I was literally shaking my head no and bawling as I read this scene and I wished that I could go back and pretend it didn’t happen. It hurt. Badly. But, this wouldn’t be a Sons of Wrath story if everything came out perfectly and no one suffered, and that’s what we have to endure to make it through to the other side! Gavin and Sabelle’s story was painfully beautiful, thrilling, maddening, and entirely consumed me from start to finish, and I cannot wait for more from this outstanding series! If you haven’t met the Sons of Wrath yet, my question to you is “Why the hell not?!!”, because I promise you it will be a favorite for any PNR fan out there!

Quotes:

As if things weren’t bad enough that she had a pimp hounding her ass, she now had a sexually charged Wrath looking to fuck her into a stupor.
Yet, the thought of that left her knees weak. ~Loc 2896

Sabelle put the vehicle in drive. “If I thought that’d make a difference, I would.”
“So this is some Jerry Springer shit you’re preparing me for, then.”
His cheeks dimpled with a smile. Adorable.
“I think my situation would be too screwed up, even for Jerry Springer.” ~Loc 3453

Gavin radiated masculinity from every pore on his perfectly chiseled body, like a deadly, invisible vapor that could cripple a woman with one glance. ~Loc 4792

“Because I knew once I had you, I’d never want to give you up. To anyone or anything.” An upward glance showed his eyes drilling into hers, as if he could see her very soul.
“In that moment, I’d already claimed you as mine.” ~Loc 5716

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I was in the mood for a good Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance book so I decided to start the new year with Soul Enslaved. I always liked Gavin as a character in this series, so I was excited to get his point of view in this book.

Soul Enslaved is a fairly long book with it's 460 pages and it took me quite some time to get through it. Nevertheless it isn't boring and kept my attention the whole time. There are a few parts which are a bit slow, but enough is going on. The main storyline focusses on Gavin and Sabelle, but there were lots of other storylines as well. Some storylines only played apart now and then and there were even some storylines at the beginning were we didn't hear anything about in the last half, but I believe they are set ups for future books. Keri masterfully manages to give you a story in each book, while furthering lots of other plot lines as well. It could be overwhelming at times, but it also gives this series a feel of continuity, things that happened in the last book are furthered here and each plot has a role to play.

There was a part towards the end of the book that was a bit difficult to read, I am not a big fan of too dark books and for a few chapters it dipped into the too dark territory for me. I read over a few scenes and almost had tears in my eyes once. There is once scene and what happens is just so horrible I don't know how the character can ever learn to deal with it. It was horrible. And it made me doubt for a second whether I wanted to continue, but it got a bit lighter after that again and I found I could continue.

The characters are well developed in part also because we hear about each character in the previous books already. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Gavin and sabelle. Gavin really is a gentlemen and the big brother in the group and it was fun to see him fall head over heels for Sabelle. I really liked Sabelle as well, she was a great female character. She is so fiercely protective of her children and is fighting to give them a better life and I really admired her for that. beside the two main characters we also get a few new side characters, like Sabella her twins and Sabelle her sister. And then there's the cats of demons and side character we got to know in previous books who each make an appearance. The story however is really focussed on Sabelle and Gavin, especially at first, so the other character mostly play a side role. Towards the end of the book some things are set in motion for future books and the other character made more frequent appearances.

The romance was done well and I really liked Gavin and Sabelle together. The only scenes that rubbed me a bit wrong was when Sabelle doubted herself and what they had. But overall they had great chemistry and I enjoyed reading about this couple and routing for them to get their happy ending.

The world building in this series is really impressive, it feels like everything is thought out and there's a word list at the beginning of the book to help make sense of some unique words. Every time I read a book in this series I am impressed again by the world building. Sure it's about the romance, but there's so much more. Everyone has a place, there are laws and rules that govern this world, alternative realms, everyone has a past and it just feel so wonderful when everything fall on it's place and everything makes sense.

To conclude: I really enjoyed this book, the pace can be a bit slow, but there was always enough going on to keep my attention. There were a few chapter which were a bit too dark for my liking and I had trouble reading them. The two main characters of this book were likeable and I really felt their romance. The earlier main character make a few appearances and the usual cast of side characters is present in this book as well. And I am so impressed by the world building in this series! Looking forward to see were Keri Lake takes this series next!

More people should be reading this series. It’s dark. And sexy. A similar vibe to the early Black Dagger Brotherhood books. This book, in particular, stands out as the darkest and most emotional installment to date. It focuses more on the romance than the earlier books, which is a good thing, even though the world building is strong and interesting enough to sustain urban fantasy fans.

This is Gavin’s story, which kind of surprised me, because I expected him to be a hero we would have to wait for. He’s the top dog among the Wrath brothers. He’s gorgeous and in command of every situation. Women fall at his feet. But as this book begins, things are looking pretty rough. He is in Obsidius (hell) being brutally punished for sleeping with a married woman. He’s actually facing death, when the succubus Sabelle calls in a debt he owes her for her hand in saving his brother’s life. Most succubi would demand sexual enslavement, but not Sabelle. She needs protection.

Sabelle is nothing like others of her kind. Most succubi are selfish and pretty much horrible, but their lives are pretty miserable too. Every succubus essentially lives the life of a whore, whether she wants to or not. She is ruled by her pimp, to whom she send the souls she receives. It’s really hard not to feel sorry for Sabelle, because she doesn’t want meaningless sex. She doesn’t want to kill anyone. She just wants to be a good mom to her twins. Unfortunately, their father is her pimp –a big no-no in succubus-land. He keeps her under his thumb with threats to her freedom, her kids, and her younger sister. And she has had enough. She has a plan to score a high ticket item to buy her freedom, but it’s very dangerous and that’s where Gavin comes in.

Gavin’s got all kinds of preconceived ideas about Sabelle, but they are quickly laid to rest as he realizes what an amazing person she is. He even grows quickly attracted to her, but it gets very complicated very fast. His mating urge is beating down his door. A black witch is hankering for his body and his soul. And there are forces working against him –and Sabelle—they don’t even know about. Despite all that, neither can fight the growing feelings they have for one another.

This romance is good stuff. This is thanks largely to the fact that Keri Lake has crafted two really well developed, sympathetic characters. As a mother, it’s impossible not to relate to Sabelle’s motivations. I love how she’s made out to have the kind of concerns and insecurities that come with the changes of motherhood. But her feelings and desire for Gavin ring just as true. I love how he allows his view of her to change. I love how he treats her children.. how he comes to treat her. I didn’t want to put it down.

But the road to happiness is not a linear one. There is a really tough part of the storyline for these two, and the author warns about it in the forward. I understand the warning, but I almost wish it wasn’t there because I found myself waiting for it. It was hard to read, but I take my hat off to Lake for the emotional impact she created.

The other Wrath brothers play a smaller part in this story than in the previous books, but they do make appearances. In fact, there are cut scenes involving the stories developing for Calix and Zayne. I am interested in both. I hope the audience continues to grow for this series. It’s worth reading. I would recommend to fans of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance alike.

Rating: B+

Oh my lord, Keri Lake had me sucked in with the Prologue. My favourite Wrath brother, the oh-so-suave, hand kissing (amongst other body parts) Gavin, now has his own story, and it's as lickable as he is. Gavin and Sabelle together light more fires than Ferno. Sabelle, a succubus fighting against her fate and that of her sister, just wants to bring up her adorable little cuties in a stable environment and has not had an easy go of it, to say the least. However, being Sabelle, a hard-working, independent woman, she has a plan to get herself out of debt and out from under the thumb of her scum-sucking pimp. Her Divine Matron is not about to let her do something so dangerous alone. Enter Gavin who owes Sabelle, big time. After Nola, Sabelle's Divine Matron, pulls him out of Obsidian where he's been sent for doing what Gavin does best, only this time he picked the wrong woman (It should have been me, dammit!), where he is being tortured by demons, Gavin knows it's time to pay up. "I'm about to become a raging sex fiend, with a fucking side of cuddles." Vowing to have nothing to do with a soul-sucking succubus, Gavin might have no choice with his Savidon approaching, forcing out his beast. To his amazement, it is not a sex slave Sabelle wants, but protection. A master at intrigue and suspense, Keri Lake will have you laughing, crying, wanting to kill with your bare hands, sighing, and horny as hell, as this tale of deceit, treachery, kidnapping and intrigues too numerous to mention (and plot spoilers all) unfolds. Now, lest you should think this is a piece of fluff tale, let me disillusion you. The writing is raw, gritty, sexy as hell, with a great plot and sub-plots. The secondary characters, and even the minor characters, are fleshed out (pun intended in some cases) with great care and skill, and the things that you don't see coming will do a complete mindf**k on you, completely and totally. I devoured this excellently written 400 page plus book in an amazingly short time, simply because I could not put it down. With this third book in the Sons of Wrath series, Keri Lake just keeps getting better and better.

This book had a lot of ups and downs in it, which is why I think I struggled to get through it at times. I was surprised at how easily Gavin fell in love, but I knew that it wasn't going to be a simple HEA. I like that the author incorporates the other Wrath brothers, and their mates, into this book so that you still see what the other characters are up to. I really look forward to seeing what is going to happen in the next book.

I like to come up with hashtags for Keri Lake’s books. This was #GlommingGavin. I fell in love with this Son of Wrath in the first book of this series. His measured control. His compassion. All the little things that make me, as a reader, compelled to finish a book. At the loss of sleep. In lieu of meals. Hoping for a few minutes of ‘wait time’ so I could open up the Kindle app and read even a few more lines.

First things first. This is a supremely dark paranormal urban fantasy erotic romance. Ms. Lake warns her readers at the beginning that this is a story that may be difficult for those that are expecting a baby or those that have suffered a loss to read. *nods sagely* Listen to the woman. Be ready for it, and be somewhere it’s okay to ugly-cry. The middle of the couch, with Mr. VampBard wrapped around me, was perfect.

I think I made enough highlights and notes to write my entire review in quotes. The dialogue and narration was engaging, and there was humor in all the right places. Snarky humor, oftentimes.

With all the awesome supporting characters, we get to know our main couple, Sabelle and Gavin, better. Their interactions with one another as well as with each other solidifies their ‘coupleness’ for the reader. Even though they fight their bond for a hot minute, it’s one of those ‘I don’t deserve you’ things.

In the beginning of the story, Gavin was in Obsidius being tortured. However, Sabelle is taking on a risky mission to protect those she loves. Her Divine Matron (I think of her as a fairy godmother), Nola, pulls Gavin from his confines by calling in a debt owed to Sabelle (see Logan’s book). Nola wants Gavin to protect her. So, basically Gavin is dropped on Sabelle’s doorstep, still healing from the ‘ministrations’ from his captors in Obsidius. Sabelle says:

“You can’t just drop him on my front porch, in the middle of the afternoon … like he’s some package I ordered from Male Depot…”

Thing is, Sabelle is resisting her succubus side. With two kids—these adorable twins, Thomas & Janie—she is SUCH a momma bear it’s not even funny. I liked watching Sabelle evolve and change. Starting off as a serious hard-ass, not letting anyone in to her bubble, she began to trust Gavin. Trust him enough to keep her—as well as her kids and sister—safe. That’s a big paradigm shift for Sabelle, who has had to be the responsible one since she was young. Oh! I LOVED the stuff about her dad. Readers will know what I’m talking about when they get to that part, near the end. Sabelle didn’t think she deserved happiness. The entire book centered around the type of person she is, how she reacts to situation, and how she survives. I think she’s one of the strongest females I’ve read about in a while. She suffered, endured, and on the other side, came out a survivor with a bright future ahead.

Gavin. When I read the first book of the Sons of Wrath series, I fell in love with Gavin. He is the ultimate book boyfriend for me. I wanted him to have his HEA because I wanted him to find happiness. He was SOOOO tortured. So much the controlling businessman—in all aspects of his life, it seemed. He was calculated, and did things to ensure the people he loved were taken care of. Oftentimes, at his own expense. When I found out that the next title in the series was about Gavin, I couldn’t wait to read Soul Enslaved. I NEEDED to hear Gavin’s story. And, ultimately, see Ms. Lake work for his happily ever after. In true Gavin fashion, we saw him as a giver throughout the novel. Even when he was having his Savius (as Maddox so eloquently put it, “How’s your manstrual cycle going for you, Brother?”) and knew in his heart and his head that he wanted to bond with Sabelle. It would’ve been so much easier for him. But, he put Sabelle’s needs before his own.

“Nothing in his life was more important—not even the downright, soul-wrenching despair of losing the only woman he’d ever loved.

Yeah, he loved her. All his doubts had come tumbling down to one single truth that he’d known all along. He loved her. Even if she didn’t rust love. Even if he’d live with the agony of unrequited love. He loved her.”

And Gavin stands by his love for Sabelle throughout the novel. Which is part of the reason I love this guy. There’s a bazillion lines that Gavin said that melted my heart. Said ‘em to Sabelle, to his Brothers. For being so guarded before, so unwilling to open himself to love, I am enamored of his transformation.

We all want to be loved. We want the whole she-bang: physical attraction, emotional bonds, intellectual equal. But, I never thought about it the way Sabelle communicates near the end of Soul Enslaved:

“Most of us are born with five senses, but in the course of a lifetime, if we open our hearts, we die with six. Knowing a soul mate isn’t about touch, taste, sound, scent or seeing. Any one of those could disappear at any given time, and still the truth inside our hearts remains. It’s an innate understanding, that you’ve found the one soul in billions who will walk through fire to stay at your side, and will never let you leave this world alone.”

This. Exactly why I’ve fallen for the Wrath demons, fallen angels, and other other-worldly beings of Keri Lake’s Sons of Wrath series. If you’ve not started reading, there’s two full novels as well as a novella before reaching this title. I recommend reading them in order. And most of all, I recommend having tissues and a large block of time to binge read. The series is addictive, and I think Soul Enslaved is my favorite title of the bunch. The way Ms. Lake is able to toss her readers into the moment, complete with the emotions, and carry them along for the journey makes Sons of Wrath a favorite series, on auto-buy for me!

It took two sentences into the story to bring back all the feels and knock me into "why the hell did it take you so long to return to this".

Keri Lake can write. That's it. That is the tweet. I love this world and its complexity. It literally has all the things I love in an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal. There are several different species: Demons, Succubi, Incubi, Lycan, slayers and hunters, Angels, Fallen Angels... Hell hounds... I mean... I was happy.
And also... HOLY HELL my heart was ripped out a couple of times in this one. Talk about putting a couple through hell and back before even claiming one another at all levels.

I'm on to the next two I haven't read in the series but I have a feeling this series is not over and it's taking Ms. Lake a hell of a long time to finish it. Needless to say, I will be sad at the end of the two books I have left. I will be left feening for more.

If you love dark, sexy paranormal romance and/or urban fantasy – Keri Lake’s Sons of Wrath series is one you just cannot afford to miss!

Soul Enslaved is Gavin’s book and is 3rd in the series.

I really love how all the stories of the Wrath Brothers are interwoven – you get so much more than just one story and it’s not hard to follow.

The set up for the next book was awesome but I won’t give away any spoilers. The book is violent and gruesome in parts but is also full of love and tenderness and sinfully sexy sections – this is one emotional rollercoaster not for the fainthearted. Saying that I wouldn’t miss one of Keri Lake’s Wrath books – they are actioned packed and full of super fit, drool-worthy demons to take home.

Another wonderful addition to the series!

I might have to wait a while for the fourth Wrath instalment but in the meantime I do have another book to look forward to from Keri in terms of Ricochet.

I'm a Lake fan, this artist is coming along with talent on the heels of greats like Ward and Showalter with enough of the new and different to make this series unique.
Book 3 was great...really liked the various demons, immortals, bad guys, good guys, questionable guys, obviously quite a lot of future stories to create and to in turn read.
The H was The Alpha...especially in um...well...beast form. Yummy.
The h was strappy and a loving mother.
The smex was smexy.
And I like the brief revisits/inclusion of the past stories H/h.
But. I don't like martyr characters and boy oh boy was the h here a martyr. I found her ridiculous stupidity over her sister (who would not follow simple requests to be protected) annoying. It took too long for the h to get over her baggage with her mother/father and stand up for herself, her kids, and her man.
Fav moments...Gavin talking to his dick and Janie telling big bad Ferno he's her friend. Delightful.
Give me the next book NOW!!!!
