KILLER FAMILIES MURDER IN THE FAMILY The family home is supposed to be a place where family members find a safe haven from the stress of outside life. A place where they feel protected and loved. Yet for many this is simply not the case. The true stories in this short book demonstrate that the family environment can be a very dangerous place indeed. Not just for children suffering from child abuse, but also for mothers, fathers, wives and husbands. In the United States, one of the most treacherous places for a woman is in her own home. Women may be afraid of strangers, but it's a husband, a lover, a boyfriend, or someone they know who is most likely to hurt them and they are at the highest risk of suffering violence or murder when they are divorcing or separating from a partner. Men too can suffer abuse from their wife or partner but the difference in physical size and strength puts a woman at greater risk than a man.For children, the greatest danger is not an unknown stranger, but their immediate families. Is your family safe?
This was a relatively short read. I saw the title and decided to read it not really knowing what I was getting into. Here are my thoughts…
There were several different true crimes here, all of which were pretty sick. This was a very condensed version with only the facts for the most part sectioned off per timeline if you will.
If you want a quick read about true crime that is more of the cliff notes rather than the in-depth detailed story, this is a great little pick. Easy way to pass the time in short bursts (like standing in line or waiting at the doctors office).
A small collection of extracts from true crime stories about murders within the family. Some of the cases are more well documented than others. This is a quick read and easily digested within an hour for most readers.
The only part I didn't like was at the end of the chapter featuring the case of Andrea Yates, the woman who murdered her five young children whilst in the midst of postnatal psychosis. The chapter ends proclaiming that at least nowadays, new mothers are able to discuss their struggles (particularly mental health). While mental health care has indeed developed in recent years, such a sweeping statement is inaccurate.
A collection of extracts and stories from Perrini's other series. If this was designed to act as an advert for her other work it did an amazing job at putting me off ever reading another book from her.
Sloppy, with no real order to the information presented, Killer Families provides very short, mostly uninformative quips about a few cases that seem to have been picked at random. It's also not particularly well written.
While I was expecting a book of excerpts, I was expecting more than what there was. I got enough information about them to research further if I chose to. But that was about it. Meh.
What true crime buff has never read about Scott Peterson or Andrea Yates? If that's the case, read this. Otherwise I recommend a complete bypass. There are only a few chapters anyway. I almost didn't read it at all after seeing a quote at the beginning claiming that there is no such thing as a functional family and that all families need therapy. What imbecile would say something like that? It's offensive and nihilistic. It wasn't the author's words but the fact that this other "educated" woman's nonsensical ramblings are being repeated is enough reason to never, ever waste time and money on this book.
So far, I'm not impressed by anything I've read from this author. The lack of any style is rather palpable when you are trying to read here. The facts are laid out in a sterile detached way that makes it seem like you're studying from a textbook, trying to get names and dates right for tomorrow's big test 'People you're glad you never met'. If you like your murder presented in a bland 'Just the facts ' way though, this will work. It's functional, but that's about it.
If you like reading true crime stories but don’t want to know every little detail about both the victims and the perpetrators this is the book for you. In true Dragnet fashion you get just the facts. Most of the stories in the book cover true crimes that were big news stories at the time they were committed and some of them were made into TV movies so you may be very familiar with them. If you like just knowing the who, what, where, and why of a crime along with what kind of sentence the killer got you will definitely enjoy this book.
All the stories were typical, nothing unusual yet this book gave me chills because of the realization that all the characters were real, who existed and lived their lives. It was disturbing to know that these stories were real and not the work of fiction. Someone actually endured all this pain and suffering. Especially reading about abuse (any kind of) towards children was the hardest part. Well composed and short.
The stories included in this quick-read work are interesting for all those true crime fans out there! However the work also contains quite a few spelling and grammatical errors throughout. Could use another round of editing. Great concept and interesting info!
This would have been a better book if it had more stories in it or maybe at some points longer explanations of what happened. I had previously read a few of the cases but their were a few I would of liked to had some more information on. Overall and okay read especially if you want a short read.
A decent overview of various true crimes. It's obvious the author published this slim book solely to promote the full version books of each story. I gave it only 3 stars because the murders were covered extensively elsewhere---nothing fresh here. I enjoy true crime books but Amazon doesn't offer much of a selection for Kindle writers. I encourage the author to cover crimes others haven't exhausted already. I look forward to finding your works on Kindle.
Extremely short stories good for reading while sitting in the doctors office or when you only have a few minutes to spare. They definitely peaked my interest so I could look for full length books for each story.
What do you do when your parent really "loves" you
I have this book a 5star rating because by God's grace, those kids could have been me... I shudder to think about those horrible things happening my babies.
Very short book, about half an hour read. Excerpts from crimes within families with links at the end of each chapter to read and or buy the full story. I knew moat if not all crimes 8n this book already.
Not in-depth as I would like but great story nuggets to pressing a full picture. I would recommend if your into this type of book but don't expect a deep dice into any one person
Killer Families is an interesting collection of short true crime stories. Most of the cases were ones I’d already read about, with only a few new ones mixed in. If you prefer more detail and depth, I’d recommend sticking to the original books about these cases rather than this brief overview.
This was a brilliant book which was hard to read in places because of the crimes being reported. I would highly recommended this book to any true crime fans.
This book was interesting and to the point , the author gave a view about the everyday life without making it long. I really enjoyed this book although I wish it was longer.
