Aimee Saunders is a sharp-tongued, emotionally unavailable omega who’s over the whole “fated mate” fantasy. After being ghosted by Wesley Knight - the infuriatingly dominant alpha who once had her heart (and then vanished without a trace) - she’s not just skeptical of scent-matching tech, she’s out for revenge.
The assignment was join a scent-matching app, get paired with a pack, and prove it’s all BS. But when the app pairs her back with Wes and his two absurdly hot packmates, she does what any mature, well-adjusted adult would
Moves into the pack-house, takes over, wraps the other two around her little finger... And watches, gleefully, as Wes spirals.
It’s fun. It’s petty. It’s kind of brilliant. Until it’s not.
Because somewhere between fake-dating, heat spirals, and very real knots, Aimee catches feelings. For all of them. And when the pack finds her secret article - y’know, the one detailing her plan to manipulate them and destroy scent-matching from the inside out? Yeah. That goes down really well.
Turns out the real scam wasn’t the it was thinking she could move into a house full of alphas, wreck their lives for journalism, and walk away with her heart unscathed.
Hilarious, hot, and packed with biting (in every sense), How to Lose a Pack in 10 Dates is a spicy omegaverse rom-com featuring an unhinged revenge plan, one chaotic omega, three doomed alphas, and a pack-sized happily ever after.
This was kind of a sweet Omegaverse, though not one like any I've read before, I believe. It starts off with an omega who has a bit of a grudge when it comes to scent matches. She gets convinced to do an article on how apps to find your scent match are nothing but snake oils and to go on an app, find a pack, and prove it's not real. Plans change when it matches her with a pack, including her infamous ex-boyfriend. One who, when previously together, seemed close to sealing the deal and bonding, suddenly up and ghosted her. No explanation, no nothing. Needless to say, she didn't handle it well and maaaay have gone a bit psycho with music playlists and glitter.
So, she tweaked her plan. Mess with him a bit, get cozy with his packmates, then bail. "How to lose a pack in 10 dates." This plan again changed when she started catching real feelings for the guys. From here, it becomes your typical rom-com, just with two guys who are smitten with her and one who's balancing on the fine line of hate and love.
My critiques: 1) Needs some editing. Particularly in the earlier parts of the book. There was a sentence with "gentle rhythm" written in it, but the letters were all mixed up. It isn't a big deal at all, of course. It's just something that should have been caught in the editing phase. There are other parts with some misspelled words, improper punctuation, etc, but it seemed pretty clumped in one section of the book, so maybe the author / editor was just tired during those parts. 2) A minor point again, but there were times I felt the writing could just be a bit more well done. Parts where it was choppy or confusing, and even a time or two where there may have been a consistency issue. Again, small points, it wasn't big things, and it didn't happen often. Just between point 1) and 2), it was enough to dock a star. 3) Wes REALLY hated Aimee. Could he blame her for being peeved? They were in a serious relationship, he got scared, and he bailed without a word. This may not say much about me, but in my younger years, I'd have done the same as her! I felt the level of anger and hate he had towards her was extreme. Yes, she did stuff, but he KIND of had it coming... in my opinion, anyway.
Overall? A cute enough story about a scorned woman who wants revenge on an ex, rightfully so, but then falls for him again along with his pack mates. Nothing too special or memorable, but it's a good palate cleanser.
This book had me laughing so hard I had to read one chapter twice. (It was even funnier the second time!) It also has heart, emotional growth, and characters you try to dislike but just can’t. Don’t read this book where you might wake someone up, but absolutely do read this book. It’s a heart-achingly good time.
I rarely hand out 5-star ratings, but here I am, giving my second one of the year!
Honestly, I enjoyed every moment of this book. It made me laugh, giggle, squirm, cry... basically, I felt all the feels.
This is the first read in ages that truly captures that nostalgic vibe of a 90s/2000s romcom.
“It’s like dating a landmine with lip gloss.”
Meet Aimee, a sweet, bubbly, and chaotic omega.
We start with Aimee as a journalist, and her boss, Rachel, entrusts her with a rather unique assignment—a gritty expose titled "How To Lose a Pack in 10 Dates." Rachel's looking for the full scoop, blending field study with a controlled demolition of sorts.
Aimee's goal is to debunk the idea that technology and dating apps, like Scentual in this story, can really foster a successful pack. Of course, she gets matched with none other than Wesley Knight—her infamous ex and his pack. As time passes, she finds herself genuinely falling for them. With her friend Zara's encouragement, she starts to pivot her essay towards capturing the true story—an exploration of her initial agenda that transforms into something much deeper.
We’ve got Wes, the quintessential Grumpy Alpha, Jace, the gym bro with a sweet tongue, and Cam, the golden retriever of the pack.
I genuinely have high praise for this book. I loved it. I do recommend this, and I will be checking out the authors other work.
There was a lot I like about this book. It was funny and silly and hot. The cast of characters were likable and entertaining... except for Wes. Wes was the worst kind of selfish, prideful, cold, condescending, immature rocks- for -brains alpha. He was the villain of the story and never stopped being the villain. He was Darcy without the class or poise. And unlike the arrogant Darcy, Wes didn't work behind the scenes to make things better. He didn't make amends. He didn't grovel. He didn't adequately and fully see his wrongs. He didn't deserve her.
One day I hope I read a book where the man who acts like that doesn't get the girl and instead, loses his pack to her.
Curious why there are four guys on the cover when there's three in this story...
I hated Wes as much as the fmc did after reading his first POV. His ‘woe is me’ attitude, painting himself as the victim had me really wanting to see what she does to him.
Aimee is a funny, witty, petty fmc and her revenge was definitely amusing. It gave the book a fun energy. I liked Cal (Yes, I know his name is Cam/Cameron, but that's my brother's name, sooo) he was sweet and adorable, but he kind of got overshadowed a little by Jace. Jace is a loud energy character as such he took a lot of the page time. He's funny, endearing and charming.
Then there's Wes...He viscerally hated Aimee when they reuinited. What she did after he ghosted her wasn't even that bad. She paid someone to write arsehole in his lawn when mowing it, set off a glitter bomb, superglued his letterbox and keyed his car (okay, that one is damaging), but she's a 'selfish, manipulative monster'. Riiight.
I wish he had any redemption arc, grovel or at least a change of attitude. But, even after everything he still painted himself the victim. He tells the guys 'when he ended their relationship she went crazy' (paraphrasing) etc. but...like, he didn't end things. At all. And his reasoning for it was so stupid.
'My dad (alpha) cheated on my mum (his scent matched omega) and I don't want to be like him, so I'm going to lead on my scent matched omega, talk about a future, tell her I love her, talk about bonding, then help her through her heat and disappear the second it's over. Completely ghost her. But she had the audacity to get upset and lash out and react. Therefore, I am the victim and she's the crazy villain.' Ok-aay. Even when he talked to her (finally) he just said he freaked out, was young and expected her to just wait for him to get his head screwed on then be completely available to him when he was ready.
Aimee wasn't completely innocent either. The fact her plan was to do that to two innocents was kinda shitty. I mean Cal and Jace were completely innocent and her original plan was to make them fall for her, drive her ex crazy by turning them on him then ghost all three of them. If you know how bad it felt to be on the receiving end, doing it to two people who were completley innocent was slack.
How to lose a guy in ten days was one of my favorite rom-coms to watch with my sister growing up, so of course when I saw the title to this I knew I had to read it. It was pretty cute the way she put an omegaverse WhyChoose spin on it, and it was a solid, genuinely rom-commy funny story.
The steamy elements were great; the dirty talk (esp from Jace) was spicy, the omegaverse elements were good albeit different than a lot of other OV (their knotting/locking was almost optional), and while I prefer swords-crossing in my OV I didn’t feel like I was missing out with the lack of it.
There were a few things that I didn’t particularly care for that kept it from being a 5 star read, like chapter 26 as a whole (there’s consensual hate-fucking and then there’s… that), some of Aimee’s “psychological warfare” that bordered on abuse (and that’s generous), and the fact that we spend the majority of the book not knowing exactly what happened between Aimee & Wes pre-pack everything in a “trust me bro, he’s a ghosting bastard/she’s Satan incarnate” way that was annoying. Tell me why I’m supposed to hate this person enough to blow up his pack & have a ten step revenge plot, tell me why this omega is a “deranged psycho” that shouldn’t be trusted.
But otherwise it was enjoyable. I think the author did a good job with the concept and I really enjoyed how modern it was with slang and jokes.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I forgot who this author was until I was approximately 1 paragraph into the book. Yup. One. Because literally from the first word her hilarious antics were determined to shine. I was hooked from page one and barely convinced myself that work was more important than Aimee. The snappy witty sarcastic (even sweet at times) humor is slathered on pretty much every page. The storyline escalates and resolves with perfect pacing and rationally absurd antics. Aimee, Cam and Jace are a perfect little trio of havoc that mesh so well it's practically life goals (for those of us with insanely impossible dreams).
The only wrinkle in the entire book is Wes. His entire base attitude is completely unfounded, his actions are borderline abusive and beyond nonconsensual at one point. Then bing bang boom, forgiveness and the light and happiness abound. Honestly, he's the only one who needs redemption and does not attempt to earn it. I could mostly ignore him, only due to the delightful menace of Aimee's deviance and humor.
I howled whilst reading this story! Rayne Waters just gets better and better! Our FMC is a revenge driven Omega who has been matched to her ex boyfriend’s pack. Wes (the ex) is onto her straight away and the chaos unfolds. Aimee is unhinged in her vendetta to make Wes pay for ghosting her years ago, but Cam is gorgeous and sweet and Jace is hot as hell and somewhere in her revenge she actually starts to care about them. Wes, not so much! Then it all goes wrong and I felt so bad for her. Honestly, I was excited by the premise alone, but this book was so much more than I expected. The humour is brilliant. I was texting one liners to my friend all night. I read it so quickly I need to read it again! Highly recommend.
My book of the year! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Freaking hilarious and that’s just Aimee! That girl is wild and I want to be her best friend in life! Each alpha is different and perfect for Aimee, but even though he’s a grump (and he is a grump!) Wes made me laugh just as much as Aimee. I also liked the boss, Rachel. It’s a fun read and a book that doesn’t take itself to seriously. I spent the day listening to the rain on my window and giggling my way through this book. The spice is also so well written. I don’t want to add any spoilers, but in my opinion this is such a good time. 5 ⭐️s.
First it was really unclear where this was supposed to take place. Some terms were more British English but they didn't use British spelling for things like favorite. Wes was supposed to be in Law School at 21 but that wouldn't be the case here in the US and he absolutely wouldn't be a partner at 25. But my biggest complaint is its Omegaverse and Aimee went into heat at like 80% in and that scene was incredibly short. Definitely do not recommend at all.
This was fun, flirty, and so funny. I loved the characters, especially Aimee and Wes. The premise was good and it was an easy and fun read. Aimee wants to prove that scent matching is just a lot of phony science. When she is matched by a company with her ex-boyfriend and his pack, she looks forward to also getting some revenge for the way the way they broke up four years ago. It is mean, full of sarcasm, and we have hate s💥x. My only complaint is that there are some issues with gray and spelling.
Ok, OMG, falling of the couch funny. I laughed out loud so many times my kid thought I was loosing it! Some of the best writing I have seen in a long time. The quick witted comebacks had me rolling. Honestly, if you need a great pick me up and some laughter in your life, read this book! I borrowed the book ok KU, but will now be purchasing to read again! Thank you for the laughs, and the all around great writing. I look forward to more of your books.
My second book by Rayne Waters, and another hit for me. This was funny, with a lot of heart. I was hooked in so quickly, loved the pacing of the story and never had a moment where it felt boring or dragging. There was plenty of spicy moments and detailed spice too as well as lots of humor, the banter and snark especially between Aimee and her ex and arch nemesis Wes had me laughing out loud. But also plenty of wholesome sweet and quite emotional moments too which I didn’t expect but appreciated
Pleasantly surprised! I didn’t expect it to be so good! Read it in 1 sitting. Forgot the laundry, the cleaning, the kids! Good fun with one crazy omega, 2 instaloves and one grump! The group song, the glitter in the pancetta, the fluffy dice! So many lol moments. My favourite Rayne Waters book so far and I really enjoyed her others books, so that’s high praise from me!
This book had amazing banter and yummy spice! I loved the FMC, Aimee. She was super sarcastic and funny and not some meek omega like a lot of omegaverse books have. Wes is Aimee's ex-boyfriend, and she is out to get revenge. Wes is in his own personal hell because he despises her but also can't help but want her. Then we have the sexy Jace and the sweetheart Cam. It was such a fun read!
The banter was amazing - I loved the snark. I did feel something missing from the past details of the relationship, I’m not sure if how it was finally told by Wes but I wanted something more. I did have a hard time reading through due to the amount of spelling/editing errors - they may have been corrected by the time you read it.
So, I am OBSESSED with this book. My grubby little hands need a paperback as a trophy for my shelves IMMEDIATELY. I'm pretty sure my co-workers and anyone who saw me parked in my car reading this thought I was out of my mind. It brought all the emotions. I highly recommend for anyone who loves rom-coms and omegaverse RH.
I loved this book so much! Amiee is a spitfire and I love that so much for her! Second chance love, scent matched, what started as a game could it end up being more? It’s so worth the read. I’m so glad I waited patiently for this book to be released!
Absolutely loved this book! Laughed out loud so many times and so many quotes highlighted. Aimee and her pack of idiots we’re funny entertaining and also emotional. Will re read.
Absolutely LOVED this book! It was the rom-com I desperately needed and it did not disappoint. Was it predictable? Absolutely, but it probably one of my favorite reads this year so far.
I laughed so hard throughout this whole book. Loved the insanity of it all and the banter between the main characters. A wonderfully well written omegaverse RomCom.
Love, love, loved it! Aimee is a blast and cracked me up! She is hilarious and I love her petty spite when it comes to getting under her ex’s skin! So many laugh out loud moments - I was busy with my highlighter pen! I adored Cam, and then Jace with his moustache and gym bod was doing funny things to me! Wes, made a huge mistake, but he’s suffered enough now and I’m ready to forgive him. I love the pack dynamic, I love the drama and I love this book so much! Can’t wait for the next one. I devoured this!
