Sylvie Harding once swore that the only reason she’d ever return to Castleton was to plan her sister’s wedding… And here she is. After eleven months of planning, the Christmas Eve wedding of her little sister’s dreams is only three weeks away, and professional wedding planner Sylvie is all hands-on deck from the moment she arrives home. Swept up in the magic that is Christmas in her hometown, the only thing that can possibly dampen her spirit is coming face to face with her childhood frenemy. Thomas, the Duke of Castleton. The man she spent her childhood feuding with thanks to an errant cricket ball is just as snarky, annoying, and gorgeous as she remembers. Despite running the village tree farm and his mother being the ringleader of all things Christmas in town, the past few years have turned him into a right little scrooge. When a string of tragedies hit the wedding plans, Sylvie only has one person she can turn Thomas. Not that she has a choice—he has a habit of showing up exactly when she needs him to save the day, and she can’t stand it. And when the ultimate disaster befalls the wedding just three days before the ceremony, Sylvie doesn’t see how it can go ahead. But Thomas can. And it just might be his chance to prove to Sylvie how he truly feels about her—and save Christmas at the same time.
Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty novels and has been translated into several different languages. She first put fingers to keys at the age of eighteen after her husband told her she read too much and should write her own. Four years later, she's still figuring out what he meant when he said she 'read too much.'
She prides herself on writing smart smut that's filled with dry wit, snappy, sarcastic comebacks, but lots of heart... And sex. Sometimes, she kills people. (Disclaimer: In books. But if you bug her, she'll use your name for the victims.)
If you want a Christmas romance, let me tell you, The Duke who Saved Christmas was definitely Christmas-ing. Sylvie is a wedding planner. When her sister decides to get married it’s only fair she’d help. Sylvie left Castleton behind and is only returning to plan her sisters big day. But this town is charming and conflicted. Once she steps foot into Castleton she has so much to do. The one person she hoped to avoid was Thomas. They were frenemies back in the day and some memories die hard. Now she’s back he seems to be popping up everywhere and there bickering doesn’t seem so disconnected. Emma Hart has written a beautiful, funny, rom-com with all the festivities and some chemistry to warm those cold nights.
This is a 3.5⭐️ that I’m rounding up. It was slow to start and it felt like a lot of people unnecessary prattling on. I kind of questioned if I had picked the wrong book. But once Thomas was introduced and their interactions picked up, so did the book. I liked their chemistry and I liked that both were strong, kind characters. I liked that Thomas “interfered” but in the kindest, nicest way. I liked that the “conflict” of their past didn’t drag out and wasn’t that serious.
The plot was kind of interesting and Hazel was a right prat. I wish there was just a bit more comeuppance for her and more resolution between Sylvie and Hazel’s relationship. Because the epilogue makes it seem like Hazel learned nothing. And there was no resolution with Sylvie’s parents either.
This was a cute, sweet holiday read. Was a bit wordy and could have had some exposition cut out. Definitely a read to recommend.
Omg I loved this book released today and to celebrate its 99p on kindle amazing offer.
I am lucky I was giving opportunity to read this as an ARC

This was delayed a bit in publishing date, so I wasn’t able to get it read before the new date. But I fit it in with my Ho-Ho-Ho Read-a-thon list and enjoyed it a lot! It’s so great to have a new book from one of my favorite authors! And I can say for sure that this was the exact type of book that is why I love Emma Hart. The funny and snarky banter, the quirky grandparents, all of what I loved was there.
As the synopsis says, and you would expect in a wedding planner story, there are several disasters. From one moment at the beginning as things were just getting started, I had a feeling I knew what that huge disaster was going to be. But then, there was another incident, with the veil, and I thought, oh, no this must be it. But boy was I wrong. My first thought of the big disaster was what came to be. And oh did I feel so sorry for Sylvie at that point, and boy did I totally understand her exhaustion and how she reacted, as there have been times I’m surprised my life hasn’t caused me to get to that point. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a Thomas to take care of me in that situation.
Thomas was the Duke who you guessed it, saved Christmas, and all of it for Sylvie. Even with their decades long “feud”. However Thomas has really kind of liked her for longer than he wants to admit. And honestly Sylvie really just enjoys the fun banter with being “enemies” and really doesn’t hate him. But she must uphold her reputation, lol, and so the empty humorous threats of bodily harm continue.
I also totally connected with Sylvie in some of her eldest daughter issues. While I don’t have quite the same problems, the things she felt she had to do, things she commiserated with Thomas’s mother, also an eldest daughter, yeah, I’ve felt that way and done those things too. And let’s talk about Thomas’s family. His sister and her wife, yeah, they had their own problems to figure out, and it made the story a lot more full with more than just Sylvie’s family to deal with. I did love how Thomas’s mother immediately began calling Sylvie her future daughter-in-law the first morning after they spent the night together. How his sister told her son to call her Aunt Sylvie on Christmas morning. I loved all the family dynamics in both families, even as Sylvie’s parents weren’t necessarily ones that I felt that way with completely.
There was one main steamy scene towards the later part of the book, and after that we didn’t get more than a mention or two of things happening. So if you prefer a cleaner/less spicier romance, you might be able to enjoy this one since it was really just that one scene. I definitely recommend this one so much, and look forward to getting more books from Emma Hart in the future I hope!
Thank you so much Emma Hart for sending me this ARC!
The Duke Who Saved Christmas is a standalone Romantic Comedy book and I had so much fun reading it, it’s perfect to get you into Christmas mood and Thomas and Sylvie’s frenemies to lovers romance is amazing!
Sylvie and Thomas have been feuding and bickering since they were children and when she returns to their small town after 5 years away it turns out not much has changed, except now it’s harder to ignore the attraction between them. Between planning her sister’s wedding and preparing for Christmas these two can’t help constantly running into each other and with their banter turning into flirting, they might realize that they don’t actually hate each other at all.
I always know I’m going to have a lot of fun and laugh like crazy when I read Emma’s books and this one was no exception, I was hooked from the first chapter and found myself grinning in every single one of them. There was a lot of preparations for Christmas, wedding and family drama, amazing three dimensional characters, a pig wearing Christmas sweaters and just such great vibes and cute love story, I loved it all so much and didn’t want this book to end. Sylvie and Thomas were amazing together, the way they hated each other as children and were still bickering and insulting each other as 30-year-olds was hilarious and I was laughing out loud at their banter, their relationship was definitely a slow burn with the he fell first trope that I always enjoy and I loved seeing them slowly fall for each other, they also had not-so-secret help from their families and I adored all the shenanigans, this book was such a perfect feel good read from the beginning to the very end and I loved every second I spent reading it.
The Duke Who Saved Christmas is a really great rom-com book that I absolutely loved and definitely recommend to everyone, it’s perfect to get you into Christmas mood and a guaranteed good time.
Sylvie was a bit OTT with her Thomas-hate for a little too much of the book (I get it, I am the grudge holder to end all grudge holders. But when I'm truly over my grudge, I also know when to let it go, whereas she'll be making him pay for her eyebrow scar for decades to come) but once she let herself finally admit her feelings to herself and to him, they were a delight together. I did enjoy how well he really understood her--this will bode well for him in those decades to come--and when he stepped in to help at a point where she just couldn't see a way through? Pure romance fiction gold.
Not going to lie, though, I'm actually glad we don't have a book from younger sister Hazel's POV, because she absolutely earned every tongue lashing Sylvie gives her about her lack of follow through for the things she promised to/needed to get done for her own wedding. And the epilogue--which is all kinds of freaking adorable in every other way--pretty much makes it clear that she hasn't learned a darn thing.
But Beatrix Trotter? And Thomas's family, especially his mum? Solid side characters I wouldn't mind seeing again.
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love Emma Hart’s writing so much, she just makes me laugh, the banter is always phenomenal, and when she does animosity between the main two love interests is always done so well.
This book is between Thomas and Sylvia, childhood enemies after Thomas hit Sylvia with a cricket ball and she has a permanent scar, but he just has fun with their banter while also fully has a crush on her. Thomas is a Duke, who is helping Sylvia plan her sister’s wedding that is constantly going wrong. He does so well at helping her and just gives her anything she needs and just makes sure she feels comfortable expressing her emotions and not taking it all out on her family. This book is for the eldest daughters, I love how Thomas makes sure Sylvia’s family doesn’t take advantage of her and pushes her to speak her feelings.
Thomas and Sylvia have amazing banter even when they are together, I loved his joke about matching scars, the way he has fun with her and you can truly see how happy and joyful she is when she is away from her family. Thomas’s family is great and I loved seeing them just accept Sylvia into the fold and just let her breathe while also having fun with her. This book made me laugh and smile so much and I just loved it!
This book should be number one on your holiday read list this season. It is a heartfelt romantic comedy that is sure to bring a smile to your face.
Sylvie has not been home in years and now she is back in Castleton planning her sister's Christmas Eve wedding. Disaster after disaster keeps Sylvie on her toes throughout. Enter the Duke....Thomas, also known as Sylvie's arch nemesis. So begins a love, hate relationship for the world record. But is his Lordship really that bad?
This book is full of fun and laughter, but also has a dose of reality and pain. It has amazing characters full of charm and merriment. But also to top the cake is the most absolute, cutest, character of all....Beatrix Trotter, the pig. The pig is such a funny little thing.
So for this holiday season break out your most coziest blanket, curl up and enjoy this fun loving romantic comedy. It will fill you with laughter and merry fun.
Thomas, the Duke of Castleton knew that the badly thrown cricket ball in the direction of 15 year old Sylvie Harding ended any possibility of their teenage romance going anywhere. She left the village to go to university and never returned, except for the odd visit to her parents. Now she is back for a few weeks to complete the planning of her sister’s wedding. She keeps running into Thomas and their constant bickering is starting to impact on her. Add to that her sister, Hazel, is being as difficult, she won’t make a decision and stick to it, if she wasn’t her sister, Sylvie would have cancelled her as a client. Being back reminds her of how much she loves the North Yorkshire village, her relationship with Thomas seems to be changing but her life and business are over 300 miles away, it doesn’t seem like there is a solution. It was a perfect read for an afternoon in front of the fire, lots of quirky characters and emotion.
*4 stars* This was a great Christmas read and one perfect for the holidays. I definitely loved the chemistry between Sylvie & Thomas but also the characters around them were just funny and lovable which made the story even more lovely. It was such a rollercoaster but I had fun reading this story. The perfect beginning to 2026.
Sylvie is coming home to plan her sister's wedding but when she rans into Thomas, those feelings from the past come barreling into her and of course the bickering starts yet again. It doesn't seem that they can get along, even after everything that has been said and done but as wedding stress is slowly but surely coming closer, Sylvie starts to see another side to Thomas and sees that a lot has changed. Thomas didn't think he'd ever see Sylvie again and after some time together, lingering feelings start to grow between them but there's also something more that he sees in Sylvie that draws him even more to her. Will everything work out in the end?...
If you’re looking for a good Christmas romance, with all kinds of shenanigans going on, then this is an absolute must read!
I adored Thomas and Sylvie. They both love their families, even when they want to ring their necks for their various antics, and they are passionate about their jobs and they are just all around good people. As for their journey to their HEA, it was a lot of fun to experience. Their “enemies” vibe was all about pushing each others buttons, but as a variety of mishaps occur with the wedding, Thomas and Sylvie are thrown together to figure out resolutions for each of them and find that they are no longer enemies, but could be so much more.
This was a fun ride from start to finish. There are all kinds of shenanigans that occur that had me laughing out loud as well as moments that totally pulled at the heartstrings. And the family vibe was strong and I loved getting to hang out with all of them.

Another amazing hilarious book by this author. I say it each and every time but you guys if you have not yet started reading this author’s books yet then what are you doing trust me you are definitely missing out. This book was just so much fun to read. It is entertaining and quirky which if you are a long time reader of this author it’s something you absolutely look forward to and love by this author. Thomas and Sylvie you guys I loved that these two were like night and day or fire and ice. Their banter is hilarious. Sylvie is back home as wedding planner for her sisters wedding and the drama that unfolds is simply something out of this authors head and highly entertaining! Love that it is just ready to kick start the holidays. Definitely a must read highly recommend.
I feel like I say this all the time, but holiday books aren't always my favorites. That said, I really enjoyed this one. I always enjoy this author's titles, but there was something about this one, and I really connected with the characters even more than I usually do with her titles.
Sylvie and Thomas probably shouldn't be perfect for one another, but they are. It just takes them a little longer to figure it out than the people around them, who all know they are perfect together.
I think I love how fully in support of her he was from the beginning, how he sees the issues she is dealing with and takes her side.
There's a pig (don't ask, Sylvie didn't) some family drama, and a wonderful slow burn romance that makes this one perfect for a Christmas read (or any time of the year).
Thank you to the author for the ARC 🫶🎄 🎄 Festive read 🎄 Childhood Frenemies 🎄 Enemies to lovers Returning home to plan her sister’s Christmas Eve wedding, Sylvie is forced to team up with her childhood frenemy, Thomas, the Duke of Castleton. As disasters pile up, he becomes her unexpected ally—offering a chance to save both the wedding and their long-buried feelings. I did enjoy the story and the writing but the book felt too long in my opinion. The pig was a winner though! 👌
Thomas our MMC is a grinch duke who is once upon a time threw a cricket ball at the head of Sylvie our FMC.
She’s retuned home to plan a wedding for her sister. These two cross paths because everything g that goes wrong with the wedding could and Thomas is there to save the day. He works hard to make Sylvie realise she is just as in love with him as he is with her.
I love Sylvie and Thomas's story. I honestly dont know what I loved the best their banter or their chemistry. Even the other characters are great. I will say as much as she kinda redeems herself, I hate Hazel. I would have lashed out way sooner on her. Sylvie is working her butt off which affects her greatly. As the older sister I totally understand her. Thankfully Thomas is there to help her when things dont go as planned. I wanted more to this story but it was another great read.
This book was just so much fun to read! Its quirky and entertaining. Theres just something about small English towns that make the journey as you read so worthwhile! Thomas and Sylvie …..these two are like fire and ice, I kid you not! Argumentative much? Honestly their banter is rather funny!! Sylvie is back home as wedding planner for her sisters wedding! The drama that unfolds is second to none and highly entertaining! But when the proverbial poo hits the fan, who saves the day? I really really enjoyed this book! It was just what I needed!
The perfect Christmas read! These two had that fun chemistry that made the banter between them hilarious. Not surprising since that’s one of my favourite things about this authors writing. Thomas was not what I was expecting but I think that’s what made me like him even more. Also there is no way I’d ever be a wedding planner but there’s not enough money in the world to get me to plan my sister’s wedding. The storyline was funny, chaotic & made for a really great read!
Absolutely loved Sylvie and Thomas. These two had me laughing out loud so many times. The enemies turned lovers has been one of my favorite genres, especially when it comes with this much humor and pettiness. These two have some crazy off the charts chemistry you knew would be explosive when it finally happened and oh boy was it ever.
I adore Emma's sense of humour and Sylvie and Thomas did show it off with their banter I adored this story. Between the setting, their families and their flirting, it was such a joy to read. This author always brings a smile to my face and this story was no different. Perfect Christmas read!
The only thing I didn't like about this book was Hazel who I found to be a real brat. Everyone else I loved. I liked that the author took the time to develop the characters and the romance slowly. It was a really fun time.
